Whenever we visit, the unanimous starter is always the Mushroom Hummus ($15) with pita bread. Everyone, yes, everyone who tried this here at Angelique loved it. You won't be disappointed !!!! I had been to Cafe Angelique's Manhattan location a few times many years ago, so I was intrigued to see that they also had a spot in New Jersey. The restaurant was in a train station, but they had painted and decorated it in a way that resembled the inside of a quaint old inn or a doll house. It was very charming! My relatives and I were seated at a comfortable table where we were greeted by our server, who was nice, but seemed a bit inexperienced. For instance, I tried to verify that the "Golden Tea" included milk, as I had assumed it was a turmeric latte. However, when I asked about it, our waitress was unsure and needed to go speak with the coffeeshop counter team up front to confirm. She came back and said that it would just be a cup of tea and that they were unable to put milk in it, though she could give it to me on the side. I found that so odd, but asked for a pitcher of warmed almond milk, so that I could add creaminess to the drink myself. The golden tea arrived with a cinnamon stick and two slices of lemon. It was soothing on its own, but I appreciated it even more when I added the milk. For my lunch, I opted for the Vegan Bowl, which included a base of arugula topped with eggplant, beets, avocado, grape tomatoes, radishes, walnuts, and four baked falafel balls. I asked for the tahini and lemon vinaigrette on the side. Each ingredient was very fresh, and the crispy falafel were some of the best and most flavorful I had ever had. It was a delicious and filling meal. We paid the bill and headed for the exit, which we had to get to by walking past their takeout pastry counter. Every item looked so tantalizing that I simply had to get something to go. I selected a chocolate chip cookie, and I was glad that I did, because it was great! It had crispy edges and a gooey center filled with decadent chocolate chunks. I am so glad to have finally dined at the highly recommended Café Angelique. Transformed from a train station, this cafe provides multiple ways to enjoy your meal (high-top outdoor seating, indoor, and outdoor tables, adjacent to the building and railroad tracks). The small cubes of feta, served on a separate dish, was appreciated and enhanced the enjoyment of the sweet and salty happiness. Each and every entree was delicious, well seasoned, and served in large portions: Belgian Waffles (Two Belgian Waffles, with bananas, and strawberries). Lunch at Café Angelique on a random Saturday afternoon was simply delightful. Before the weather got cold, we ate outside under a huge tent with other surrounding tables. Located in the historic part of Tenafly by an old railroad station is Café Angelique. Food was delicious, one of my favorite parts was the big smoothie I ordered. My acai berries smoothie, first time I ever saw a restaurant serve it in a larger cup. Delicious. Service took some time to navigate from checking customers inside the restaurant to outside where we were in the tent. Well worth the wait. Can't wait to go back to try other menu items. Was in town to visit Omay Spa and stopped in here to get a drink and bagel. This place is cute, used to be a train station now converted to a restaurant. Seating inside and outside, nice selection in menu and many desserts as well as ice cream. We decided to return for lunch and we were not disappointed, the food was delicious. I had the Mediterranean Heaven salad with chicken and my sister ordered the Harvest Bowl with chicken. The food was 10 out of 10. I enjoyed that the salad was chopped in bite sized pieces and easy to eat instead of having to cut it to enjoy it. This came with 3 pieces of stuffed grape leaves which had the perfect balance of flavor. My sister did enjoy her salad with quinoa, kale and edamame, so good she even took some home. Portions sizes as well as value for the price were in my opinion excellent. The service was great, our sever Kevin was very nice and helpful. If you are in Tenafly stop by Cafe Angelique, the inside also has a cute coffee shop with bite sized pastries, and other savory quick items to take to go. Visited Cafe Angelique for brunch on a Sunday. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Their indoor seating section was Tenafly's former train station, and it still kinda looks like it. We were seated quickly and our drink orders were taken. My latte was well made, with pretty latte art. The food took awhile to prepare, but my shakshouka was delicious. It was 3 eggs poached in a thick, tangy, and slightly spicy tomato sauce, served with pita bread. I also got feta and sausage to make the dish even heartier. My girlfriend got the mallawach sambusak, which had a nice flaky crust, but we could have honestly just split the hearty shakshouka. Definitely my favorite shakshouka so far. read more

We went there for lunch today. I had a really bad experience. I ordered a hot lentil soup and got a lukewarm soup. I asked the waitress to heat it up and I got back literally boiling soup out of the microwave at a dangerous temperature. Next, to an order of a simple plater of Hummus with a request to get the chickpeas on the side. I got a bowl of tasteless dip, does not come close to Hummus, to call it Hummus is a crime, with the chickpeas on top of the paste, not as requested. Marvelous lunch with very good friends! One of them had a sandwich, the other had a wrap, but I had one of my very favorite dishes, shakshuka. They make it with 3 eggs in a thick, rich, deeply intense tomato sauce that has a good kick to it. I asked for zhug on the side and I barely needed it! It was served with 2 warm and fluffy pitas, one of which I used to mop up that luscious sauce. We had one iced tea, and 2 of us had their excellent cappuccino (& oops, I forgot to ask for skim milk, so that was a rich and creamy capp!). My friends arrived at least 15 minutes earlier than I did, as I ran into a huge amount of traffic crossing the Bridge, and it was wonderful that the cafe had no problem with their being seated in the large and airy tent while they waited for me. Our lunch was leisurely and our server gracious about it (tipped him well, and in cash). I've been to cafe Angelique a couple times, generally underwhelming food but at least the pancakes were pretty good. I ordered an omelette today and it came out cold and dry (clearly has been sitting around). You have to know what's good or find a favorite to make this a go to spot. Luckily my friends and I have our go to's that never disappoint. We usually get a chicken sandwich and avocado toast, with half lemonade half ice teas, and it is all superb. The attention is pretty consistent and friendly and the ambiance is very calm and enjoyable. I think this is a great casual spot to catch up with friends or go on a date. Some items were solid but very standard and unexceptional (kale quinoa salad, quesadilla, coffee & tiramisu), others were downright nasty (stale chocolate cake with horrendously strong freezer burn that should've never been served). While visiting NJ, a few friends took me out as a goodbye meal a month ago and it was quite the wait and the food was better than alright. I was nervous considering it had terrible reviews, but the couple insisted that they take me here. The hummus and pita bread (they make in-house) is actually one of the best I've ever tried. We ordered more bread and we instantly regretted it because bread comes with the shakshuka. Try to hold off if you can. A few others we tried were: - avocado toast with smoked salmon: The avocado could use some salt and the smoked salmon was perfectly unsalted, but wasn't a huge fan of the multigrain. If you're allergic to nuts and seeds, check with the server. We asked and tried to cancel because one of the people in our party was allergic, but wouldn't allow us to because it already went in. - shakshuka was not bad, but feels like something is missing? - cobb salad was not anything spectacular, just a cobb salad. We ordered a few more additions that I wasn't a huge fan of. But I did order the mint lemonade and regretted not getting a larger size -- it was super refreshing and delicious. Great outdoor seating set up with safe distancing from other patrons. Solid cement barriers from the street parking and the temporary outdoor dining space. It felt removed from vehicle traffic. Chicken curry wrap was delicious, a well rounded wrap and a heaping portion of curry chicken salad was served pressed with a small side salad. Perfect amount in one half of wrap, I took the other half for later ! Ice coffee was delicious and served in small and large. My lunch dates had half tea half lemon aid that tasted great too! Whenever my daughter comes home to visit her first stop is for an iced latte with oat milk! Why ? Because Cafe Angelique has the best tasting coffee and they're the only restaurant with the oat milk she likes. The lentil soup I order a few times a week. No other restaurants in the area can hold a candle to there's. It's perfectly spiced not overly salted and very fresh. The humus is heaven real real Israeli style and the warm pita is the best pita I've ever eaten and I grew up eating a lot of pita in my Sephardic neighborhood. I'd love some chicken breast entrees on the menu because that's my go to and families protein. I had the California green smoothie and my GF had a mint lemonade...drinks took 30 min to arrive. My smoothie tastes like lawn clippings and the lemonade is good...but you can get a gallon of Smiply Lemonade for like $3 so not really worth it. The menu is limited to put it mildly and the quality of the food can best be described as "average".
