Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Food was very good. Super nice lady there. Clean location, easy to locate.

Dropped by this restaurant after flying in to Calgary for a quick lunch. Hostess/waitress was very friendly. We ordered a steak sandwich (one of the specials), a scallop and shrimp pasta, and chicken fingers. Steak sandwich: didn't try it personally, but my parents shared this dish and both seemed to be enjoying it. I did try some fries that came along as a side, and they were delightfully crispy and tasty. Scallop and shrimp pasta: I ordered this dish, and the sauce was plain and a bit bland. They were generous with the scallops and shrimp, however. One big minus about this pasta was the fact that I found a huge pool of oil waiting for me at the bottom. Made me feel a bit queasy about what I had just eaten. Chicken fingers: my brother ordered this and he loved it. I also took a bite and the chicken tenders were really nicely crispy on the outside without being over-battered. Portions were big enough that a group of four was able to get full off three entrees. Took longer than expected for the food to get out, especially since we were pretty much the only party there, but overall a decent experience. read more

This restaurant is on its last leg. Friends used to always recommend this place, and after years we finally decided to check it out. Weird atmosphere and decor. They didn't have several food and beverage menu items available. The bathroom has a dirty mop and bucket when you first open the door, smells real bad. read more

I always order the nachos with double cheese and my husband orders the lasagna. Excellent food but a bit chilly when dining in. It's not as busy as it once was but we still go. The Slovakian pita is excellent as well! read more

Used to be a great restaurant until new owners bought it about 3 years ago. Now service is terrible with higher prices. The new staff didn't even know how to make a wine spritzer. The place is always empty, I'm not sure how they stay afloat. I hadn't been for a long time then tonight came in for a quick dinner. Over 10 minutes after we ordered, the kitchen said they didn't have enough made of what I ordered and it would take an extra 15 minutes for them to make more. Does that mean food is made in advance?? So much for a quick dinner :( I didn't even bother ordering anything. Had a few bites of my daughters dish - portion was small and sauce was really thick and tasted like it came from a jar. Hopefully they close soon and something better takes its place. read more

This place serves "Greek" food. Nothing terribly authentic, so dont expect that, but a decent enough place. I have only been there for lunch, and it has been good every time. Portions are large, the lunch special prices are really good, and the service is fine enough. Oh, their calamari is pretty good. read more

If your looking for a good place to eat that's fast, clean, and has good food you might want to skip this one. Dark and dust filled is only the beginning. The whole place killed my Friday night vibe. We had an assortment of pizza and nachos. The pizza was at par but I can't say the same about the greasy mess of nachos. It was very apparent that the nachos were microwaved and the huge piece of grilled chicken could barely pass as meat. There was no organization and the service was painfully slow. This would be the last place I would go to eat in Calgary...I don't recommend it. read more

Really not sure why this place is still in existence. Given the location it could have so much potential, but instead it still serves old style pasta, pizza, and grub, non of which is good. The beer on tap is mediocre at best. Last time I was there they had Traditional on tap by Big Rock. If it's 2000 sure, but it's not. Time to refresh the beer list. I could see this place being a nice coffee and breakfast place during the early to mid part of the day, and turning into a micro-brew style beer house with fresh ingredient pizzas and healthy meals for the afternoon and dinner hours. Just imagine how popular it could be given its proximity to the hordes of people travelling to and fro from the mountains. It's literally a perfect destination, but instead the owners think it should continue to be an old school and unkept semi-dive establishment. I have no idea how this place is still in business. Maybe it's a money laundering cover. To the owners: check out Jackson's Corner in Bend, Oregon. Become that and you will be very well known throughout southern Alberta, or perhaps continue to launder your money and stay a lame excuse for a local neighbourhood pub. Up to you, but in the meantime I won't be back and I won't be recommending your restaurant, bar, or whatever you may think it is. read more

We ordered pizza over the phone for a pickup. The person over the phone was not a fluent English speaker, to say the least. Pizza was ok, but the size was really not what we expected, we ordered a large pizza and ended up with a 12 inch pizza of approximately. One last thing, the restaurant website refers to " Scrumptious Greek Food ", I think this saying needs to be updated as there is no Greek around that restaurant now. read more

Amazing Greek and Western food. From the deliscious griled Chicken Sandwich to their melt in your mouth tangy Pizza. Fish with lemon hmmmm on a bed of rice or Veal w/ Pasta or Souvlaki and roasted potatoes!! Atmosphere is relaxing and chic on one side and the lounge area is hip and open with TV's at every angle. It's so sad. I don't know what has become of Van Gogh's This used to be one of our family's favourite spots for years, but something has happened to the atmosphere and overall customer experience. We ordered a meal where nothing came out at the same time. When most had finished eating, one meal still had not been served. This was mine; as a mom with two children in the group, I encouraged everyone to go ahead and start their meals, thinking mine would arrive soon after. An exorbitant amount of time passed as I waited for the meal and I finally asked what had happened. I was told it was because so many changes had been made to the order. The only change made was to a baked pasta dish where, our daughter, who is a vegetarian, asked for a vegetarian sauce. The best they could offer was the pizza sauce. She accepted as she was hungry. Wait a minute. There was another request to change a menu item. Our 6 year old niece requested pasta without sauce. She did not ask for butter or olive oil. Just plain pasta with Parmesan on the side. Doesn't seem like a difficult request that would result in one meal taking an additional 30 minutes to complete. The pizza that my husband ordered was undercooked. When we asked to speak to the manager about the meal, she implied that we seemed to like the rest of the meal as the kids had eaten some of theirs. Does this sound like how a manager should respond to customers who are unhappy with meal turnout? It seems this manager didn't value our patronage and we will not return. As I said above, it's sad as this once was a great family dining experience, but we will be sure to tell everyone we know what a disappointment this place has now become. We can understand and sympathize when things go wrong, however, having a defensive attitude with little ability or desire to problem solve will not earn this establishment many repeat customers. Perhaps this manager will eventually realize that customer service will always equal profit. read more

I ordered the lasagna to go, it was a very generous portion in a metal chinese take- out container. When I got home and added this "authentic" dish to the caesar salad it's looks didn't nearly boast enough of it's totally beige tastelessness. Lasagna is difficult to miss the mark with but somehow it's been done. Sadly enough I think it's more their fault than what meets the eye as I later that week ordered this same take away dish from bona-roma and got the EXACT identical tasteless boring lazy miserably doorstop of a barely passable food item. read more

Quite possibly the worst Caesar salad I have ever attempted to eat. When we complained that it was not good the cook came out with a big bucket of "dressing" to show us it was good and that no one else complained about it. This was the first time we have been for a few years and we came with the hope that things had improved but somehow they have become even worse. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

The restaurant was very dark inside, poor lighting made it hard to see the menu or food. Beer selection on tap was poor, they could try adding some local microbrews. The veggie pizza had to be one of the worst I've ever had. Tough dough and congealed cheese, seemed like a frozen pizza heated up. The souvlaki wrap wasn't bad but the chunks of lamb were tough. They would do better serving it with sliced gyro meat.The waitress found it hard to crack a smile. Our bill came to $86 for a very forgettable meal. read more

Unfortunately I have to give this place one star but it deserves none. I can't even review the food, only the service... we came in this evening, A Sunday, after traveling from the United States. Our campground recommended this place so we arrived for dinner. We walked in to a completely empty restaurant. Our serve came up to take our drink order, we ordered four Shirley temples, a Roy Rodgers, and a few mixed drinks. After receiving Shirley temples we realized they were not what we ordered. They came with orange juice. Mind you we are American so we questioned the order and after explaining that we get them differently we just asked for the correct drinks. The man behind the bar then began cursing under his breath making comments about us being tourists which I found absolutely ridiculous. I have worked in the customer service world many years in a tourist town and this display of customer service was honestly appalling. Never in my life have I heard someone working customer service react in such a way. Definitely explains why the place was empty. Terrible... read more

We live near by and have tried Van Goghs a few times. Pita meal is okay..you can get better at Opa though! The waitress suggest I try the chicken burger and the chicken was very chewy/rubber like. I have yet to have very good service here-- very slow. They do have a great Salmon salad though. Everything else has been very mediocre and garlic overload! read more

I've been eating at Van Gogh's now for several years, as I live in Valley Ridge, and I must say that the food is consistently great. I have honestly never had a negative experience there. When I order nachos, I actually get lots of cheese! The calamari is never rubbery! The burgers are done fabulously. What I particularly enjoy is the portion size. In a day and age where a person can go out to eat and spend a hundred bucks or more on a pretentiously served and plated "appetizer" sized entre' it's nice to sit down to a good priced and flavourful meal that leaves you full, and probably having to take home a doggy bag. This is a great neighborhood restaraunt that I am proud to recommend to my friends. Keep up the good work! read more

The staff are friendly and they deserve a 4 star but the food is terribly disappointing and the drinks and food take forever to arrive, therefore the overall 2 star. When this place first opened it was very very good and I came here often since I live in the area. But they've changed hands and the quality just went down the drain since! Their baked spaghetti meatball was nothing but boring and dreadful! If I'm right, nothing is made in house, not the meatballs nor the pasta sauce. It was just a hot plate of boiling cheese with no flavour :( if I spent 10 minutes cooking up a pasta dish it'd taste better than that. It's such a simple dish and so hard to mess up. Other times that I went to the restaurant I had ordered salads and burgers, which were not as terrible as the pasta dish. The bison burger was pretty good. But the overall quality has just went down significant as nothing is as good as before they changed hands. So I'll double think, triple even, to going there again. read more

From the casual atmosphere, friendly server and great food, this restaurant will now be on our list of go-to places for a family dinner. We had a cozy table by the fireplace, and our server (Valeria) was friendly, efficient and attentive. The food was delicious and the portions were generous, and with a diversified menu, it met everyone's tastes. We had calamari to start, which was very tender and it was a good portion for sharing. My husband had a greek salad and said the feta cheese was fantastic - soft and moist instead of dry and crumbly. I had the angel hair pasta with basil chicken, and while there may have been a bit too much sauce, the chicken was tender and the pasta wasn't overcooked. My husband and son had the special, which was a bacon wrapped filet, served with a shrimp skewer, rice and steamed veggies. Both said it was delicious, the steak was cooked to their liking, and the shrimp was tender. I would definitely recommend this to families or a casual dinner out with friends. read more

This place is the one we always choose for pizza, often on the way back from skiing. All the friends I have taken there loved the food. The place is kind of plain but comfortable enough and the service has been very good. I've been going for many years and in the past sometime it varied a bit with food quality but for the past few years, (different owners I guess) it has been consistently excellent. read more

Our evening here starts by noticing food bits on the floor. Then, a suspiciously Costco-tasting bruschetta to start, followed not very quickly with a similarly fake Greek main course. We are hungry and might have pushed through it. But it is served cold. Still not our worst dining experience so far, until we make the mistake of telling our waitress that we do not wish to eat the dinner cold. Please take it back and bring us the bill for our appetizers and drinks. Five minutes later the owner comes out. She refuses to take back the dish, citing "perfect reviews," and then offers---not to make another---but to MICROWAVE it. Thank you, but no. We ask again for the bill for our appetizers and drinks. Another refusal. We put money on the table for the cost of an entre and drinks, and politely say good evening, while the owner loudly insults us among the rest of the patrons. At that point it qualifies as the worst dining experience in our lives. read more

Why is this place still in business? Last time in, the inept server spilled a full glass of beer on our guest, as she tried to place the glass on the table. Another server appeared with a small stack to tiny cocktail napkins to try to mop up the mess. What! No gesture of any like by management to compensate for the mistake. In fact another server was rude to me when I asked to see the manager. Awful awful awful. Have never returned. read more

Van Gogh's was really good... A couple years ago. We live in Valley Ridge but will make the trip to the golf course now for a quick weeknight meal. The Van Gogh menu has not changed in the years we've lived here, but the food is somehow worse. Please wake up and make the restaurant warmer and more inviting. I would hate to see a community business fail. read more

TERRIBLE! Since the change in ownership this place has gone downhill. The food is disgusting, service is horrendous and the establishment is dirty. When complaints are brought to managements attention they could care less. As a Valley Ridge resident, I find it such a shame that there are limited food options in the neighbourhood. I HIGHLY recommend avoiding this place and taking your business elsewhere. read more
