Suggested by our hotel desk, we went to Saltlik in Calgary for an Alberta steak dinner to celebrate our last night in Calgary. We sat at the bar and were served by Chantel. She welcomed us and asked a few questions to help her to make wine and dinner selections. We selected a bottle of wine based on her suggestions that matched our individual taste preferences while also complementing our meal. And she suggested steaks and sides that were Saltlik specialties. Orders were placed and we enjoyed our wine while waiting on our meal. When our meal arrived, she treated us to a surprise side that Saltlik is known for. She continued to check in on us throughout our meal. Chantel was the epitome of excellence in service. Our meal was wonderful, even exceeding the high expectations we had set. The manager, Dillon, also checked in on us and spent time with us to learn about our experience. This was a fantastic dinner, made even better by the service we received from Chantel and the personalized attention by Dillon. Highly recommended. read more

I wanted to make sure our group was able to try out "Alberta Beef" at a nicer restaurant, and came across a few steakhouses. Saltlik was one of the options that was able to accommodate 12 of us, and didn't have a spending minimum. This was important because as a group of girls, we usually can't order enough to meet the minimum. - PARKING - Street parking only, but there are a few nearby paid lots that you can park and then walk over to the restaurant. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - We made a reservation in advance so we were seated promptly after checking in. We got a round table which I loved because we could see everyone, but there are several other table arrangements for other large groups. I felt like our server was trying to be nice and welcoming, but at times it also felt like he was REALLY trying to upsell us. We knew our preferences and stomach capacities, so it was slightly off-putting when we said no the second/third times on a suggestion. They also seemed a bit uncoordinated with the delivery of food, as well as cleaning up used plates/utensils. Not everyone got a plate/utensil change, but felt like it should've been consistent. - FOOD - Duck Fat Fries ($13.75): Tasty sharable appetizer! Decent portion size as well. Crisp Brussels Sprouts ($13.50): Cooked well overall, but some areas had way too much maple syrup and it was overwhelmingly sweet. Bone-In Ribeye ($95.00): Pretty good quality of meat, although I personally can't discern the "Alberta Beef" from another type of beef. I did enjoy it regardless though! We also got the Peppercorn sauce and that was a nice addition. Sticky Toffee Pudding ($14.00): We ordered this for 12 girls and we all got 2 bites each which was honestly enough because everyone was so full. The last of our fancy dinners for a recent bachelorette trip to Calgary. Our large group made a reservation beforehand and were seated as soon as we checked in. Unfortunately, they had run out of the tuna tartare (they had just opened an hour ago so not sure if it was just a supply issue...) so we asked our waiter for other appetizer recs, and he enthusiastically suggested the wok-fired calamari. I wasn't quite all-in on his suggestion, but agreed since we needed another appetizer for it to be enough food to share, and I didn't want to have to think about choosing another dish. I surprisingly ended up loving it though, and I think it was probably my favorite dish out of everything we ordered! Other than the calamari, we also got the buttermilk biscuits and roasted mushroom salad. Both were alright but nothing really stood out to me, and I wish the buttermilk biscuits were a little more buttery. For our main we got the balsamic braised short rib, and I had similar thoughts. Decent but not amazing. I did enjoy the sticky toffee pudding we got for dessert to share with the table though! Overall the food was alright, but nothing super memorable. To be fair it is a steakhouse and I didn't try any of their steak, so maybe that's where they really shine. We made a reservation online and walked here from our hotel. The restaurant is in a nicer area with other eateries and bars. We were seated outside at first, but the hostess let us know a storm was coming and moved us in. All of the staff are dressed in classic black and try to elevate the experience. Good was very tasty and what you would expect to find at a steakhouse. We split an appetizer or calamari which tasted fresh and not frozen. Our server was polite and friendly, making small talk and offering suggestions, the manager stopped by and had a quick chat with us as well. A nice place to have a business dinner or a more upscale meal if you get the chance! Will visit again on my next trip out there! read more

The highlight of my experience - Pineapple Cut Calamari! The Saltlik was going to be our last meal in Calgary, so we wanted to go out on a high note. We had passed it several times while doing shopping and sightseeing in the downtown area. What really catches your eye is the Horse Sculpture on the side of the building. So very creative and interesting construction. The dining area is spacious and casual. They gave us a booth, which was okay, but in retrospective, a table would have been better for having a conversation with a party of four. We had made 7:00 reservations on a Monday night. Got seated right way. Our server did a great job getting us settled in with waters and menus. She did a great job the entire evening (thanks Jetta). For drinks we all decided on the special Sangria - very tasty. Lots of great sounding choices on the menu. The others in the party went with different salads, Caesar with Grilled Chicken, Roasted Mushroom Salad, and Farmhouse Greens. I was feeling like the odd-man-out, and ordered a couple of starters, the Calamari and Brussel Sprouts. While we waiting, they served us Cheddar Biscuits and butter. They were warm, and flavorful, but a bit on the dry side. The rest of the food came in not to long after. The salads were fresh and the portions were average size. The consensus was that they were "okay". Nobody was raving about their meals. I gave my meal mixed reviews. The Brussel Sprouts were not roasted as much as i would have liked. Normally an order get scarfed down, but not these. The Calamari that I ordered was tremendous. I was a bit confused as first by the shape and texture, which I asked our server about. She was very knowledgeable and told me about it being prepared Pineapple Cut. First time I had ever heard about this technique, which I researched once I got home. So much better than then other calamaris that I usually have. We saved room for dessert. We shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, and the Molten Chocolate Cake. Those were both very good. The evening was nice. Wish some of the food items had been better. If we would come back to Calgary, we would give it another try (and of course get another serving of the calamari). read more

Was walking by and decided to stop in for dinner. The staff were super welcoming and friendly. They weren't too busy on this Tuesday evening and gave us our choice of a few great table options. Our waitress Carmen was exceptional. Very cheerful, knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive throughout the entire meal. We shared the Brussels sprouts that had amazing flavor but were certainly undercooked. Would have been good with a bit more cook. The burger was exceptional with the onion in the center. With the cheese melted a bit more. The fries we both couldn't eat as the seasoning was over powering. We also tried the pesto Casarecce pasta which was bland. Corner restaurant on Stephens Ave. Earlier in the day samples of calamari were being given on the Ave & I've been thinking about it since. Happy to get an outdoor table with a view at dinner time. The staff here was super personable & John our waiter was terrific! We had a dinner of starters. The buttermilk biscuits, the smoked trout with chives and chips, and the walk fired calamari with garlic chili and chard lemon were all excellent. I'll start by saying that the best part about my dining experience with Saltlik was our server. I believe his name was Justin or Jason. He was attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating and nice. I ordered the cheddar biscuits as an appetizer. For my entree, filet mignon which was accompanied with mashed potatoes and Dijon glazed brussel sprouts. I added peppercorn sauce which was a nice touch. I had two cocktails: Aperol sprits and a drink I can't quite remember. The food was delicious. The biscuits were like biting into a cloud so soft and savory. I'd love the recipe lol. The filet was good and had a nice seasoned crust. I'm unsure if it was worth passing up the less expensive and larger sirloin. The peppercorn sauce was a great addition but the dish could stand alone. The potatoes and brussel sprouts were great as well. I came to Saltlik for dinner recently. It's one of the nicer restaurants in downtown Calgary. In terms of food, I tried their Wagyu Carpaccio, Ahi Tuna Tartare, Kobe Fat Fries, and Scallops + Gnocchi. Came here for a work dinner and the food was mind-blowing!!! I had the farmhouse green as an appetizer and enjoyed the salad so much I knew I would love the rest of my meal. The prime sirloin steak I got was cooked to perfection (medium-rare) and it was so juicy, moist and soft to eat. The red wine jus that came with it was also so tasty with the steak. Was in calgary for work. I decide to come here for a light lunch. Parking is near buy buts it's paid parking. Public transportation is not a far walk away. The place had a nice atmosphere and the staff were super friendly. I had the following. Tuna tartare which was super fresh and the sauce they had on in it was packed with flavours. I could of eaten 10 of these plates. So good and so fresh. I Also tried the beef carpaccio. I never tried this before and I all can say I was blown away with the taste and flavours. Stopped in on our last night here in Canada and had a fantastic meal to end the trip. Started with the tuna tartare, french onion soup and brussel sprouts. They all tasted delicious. The only improvement I could see would be to have more filling inside the soup. Continued our meal by splitting the scallop gnocchi and a burger with fries. The burger was cooked with excellent flavor, and the fries had a good ratio of crispiness to soft inside, but the gnocchi with scallops was even better. Gnocchi alone can be too much, so mixing it with scallops is a magnificent complement, and the crispy/fried gnocchi pieces perfected this dish. Finished our meal with the apple cobbler. Four star dessert in my option-- tasted great with scrumptious ice cream on top. I think with some hot crumbles or a toasty hard crust (it had crust, just not toasty), this dessert could have been 5 star. read more

I was THRILLED with my decision to come here. I'm an American here looking for a good filet. After perusing Yelp & others for a while, I finally opted for Saltlik. I'm shocked the rating isn't higher. The steak comes with an option to add a sauce. Per my usual, I said no, I want to honor the meat. Let me see how it tastes first. I was NOT disappointed. Cooked to medium rare perfection. Great seasoning that was want overpowering. The Brussels sprouts were phenomenal. I guess the only mild criticism I could give is on the mashed potatoes. But I'm from Tennessee. We have a whole different standard for good mashed taters Bottom line, go here. I sat at the bar and they were all nice. The vibe is legit. Started off with a great cocktail "Vanity Fair" and two appetizers: Biscuits and the duck fat fries. Both were great and had good flavor. Ordered a sirloin, medium well, with peppercorn sauce. Well apparently the cook thought medium well meant still bleeding. It was horrible, especially with the bloody red juice making its way into the mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Once we got our food, the service seemed to completely stop. I couldn't even eat my meal. Waitress said nothing, just took my full plate while she removed everyone else's empty plate. I personally wasn't over the top impressed, but the quality and service was still good. Portions were good and food was nicely presented. First time in Calgary and we tried Saltlik for our steak nite. It was centrally located and in a convenient location to our hotel. The restaurant is nice , clean and we were greeted nicely by errrybody. We had French onion soup to start along with drinks, an old fashion and a Manhattan which were both good. Our main dish was steak with lobster mash taters and asparagus with a very good Cabernet. Our whole meal was good and our wait staff were all great. The manger Emma even gave us recommendations for our trip to Banff for the next day. If you're in town I highly recommend Saltlik. Ohhhhh the downstairs pool room was really kool too. read more

Good menu with lots of choices for any diner. We enjoyed calamari and tuna tartare, which were flavorful and portions were generous. Really good drinks menu and wine selection. Service is very accommodating and friendly which makes for a nicer dining experience. Seating is spacious and very comfortable with lots of space between tables. The only weak part was the steaks, although perfectly cooked, were of mediocre quality. Maybe just an uncharacteristic delivery from the supplier, so I will try again on my next visit. The food was not bad but our dining experience was ruined by the service provided by our waitress. We really didn't appreciate her adding additional items onto our bill without making it clear that they were extra. Makes you feel the restaurant was there to scam you rather than offer you a pleasant dining experience. She first added some blue cheese butter (+$3.25) which didn't taste good and was too salty in addition to us adding the Saltlik signature sauce (+$3.00) in addition to the $45 ribeye steak. She also pitched for us to order the $16.75 lobster mash saying that it's their signature dish and is what they are known for. The mash potatoes dish was good, but it's definitely worth $16.75 (not even in New York), being so small and had very little bits of lobster on the top. We were also worried about having too much food if we ordered the BBQ Ribs because it had fries along with the order. Rather than advising us to get something else with a smaller portion, she suggest we switch out the fries for a salad instead. Little did we know that switch meant order a salad, not switch. So we were charged an additional $9, and didn't get our fries. I would have given only one star for the dining experience, but the food and presentation was good. Hopefully they can work on improving the "scam" vibe, otherwise I would not recommend going there to ruin your nice night out. read more

What happened? It has been a few years since I've been to Saltlik and was looking forward to a nice dinner with some work colleagues. I ordered the Filet priced a $57. I've had steak here before so was pretty confident all would be good. I was able to modify the sides so instead of mashed potatoes I had asparagus and stayed away from the maple glaze on the brussel sprouts. I ordered my steak medium rare. The dish came and the first thing I noticed was the asparagus was overdone to the point it was as limp as a noodle. The brussell sprouts looked ok but had no flavour. I kinda expected the chef to do something other than the maple glaze. And then there was the steak. Certainly not medium rare, more medium well and tough, really tough. On a more positive note the server was great. Friendly, kind and attentive to the table. There are a lot of other steak places in Calgary so I'm not inclined to go back. read more

I was a little worried when we walked up and nobody had food. All of the downstairs tables were taken and we had requested a reservation with outside dining. You need to specify because they have an upstairs patio with horrible views..... well views of extension cords and a massage place across the street. Ribs were good tender and actually pretty good. Salmon salad was great as well but got a few bones in the salmon. We had no issues with the service and actually past the lady/hostess who seemed like she had somewhere else she'd rather be our waitress was awesome! read more
