Alberta trout with grits
Nicole A.

If there was a 4.5 I definitely would have picked that because overall I really enjoyed going to this restaurant but I just didn't like the main dish that I got. The service was excellent. Plenty of street parking on a weeknight as well. We had 3 small plates to share - the mushroom croquettes, charred cabbage and the burrata. My favourite was definitely the mushroom croquettes which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was just yum! A close second was the charred cabbage which was actually so good - try it even if you don't love vegetables because you won't be disappointed. The burrata was good too but just less so compared to the other two. My main was the Alberta trout which came with a large piece of fish on top of grits with plenty of crispy capers on top. I thought that the capers were very overpowering and although the trout was fresh it didn't have much flavour to it otherwise. Grits had a nice buttery taste to it which was good. Overall, would go here for the mushroom croquettes for sure but would not get the trout again.

Taylor is the best server ever! There was an awful snow storm and she was so thrilled to see me! I was the first one in for dinner last night. I was recommended to come visit here by friends. I started with the burrata. I mentioned to Taylor that I like spicy and she came back and said "the chef would like to make the burrata spicy and custom for you". Would you mind that? I LOVED it! It was so good. Best burrata I've ever had and they took away the walnut! I then had the steak frites which were to die for. I ordered a glass or white wine then they brought this red over that went so well with my main course. I can't wait to visit this cozy place again. It was nice and anyone in Calgary should check it out!

Came here during the YYC Experience week in 2020. OMG, I didn't read the menu carefully. It was not like Vancouver Dine out where you pick an item in each category. It was "And". Yes it included 2 appetizer, 3 entrees and 2 desserts for $40. I was shocked. I was thinking perfect a good light meal for dinner. I have a small appetite and I tried to force myself to finish everything because I didn't want to take anything back. I ended up not feeling wow at night. Basically over ate. So for the food.... APPETIZERS: Organic Beets (Almond and Roast Shallot Dressing, Whipped Ricotta). It was super delicious. more on the saucy side. The beets were fresh. Yes this dish really opened up my pallet. Wagyu Beef Tartare (Beer Cheese, Mustard). This is actually my favorite dish out of the entire meal. It had a nice light flavor. It paired very well with the bread. I wish there was one more extra slice of butter/garlicy bread. Other than that it was super delicious. ENTREES: Glazed Cod (Toasted Nori, Buttermilk Emulsion). The cod was over cooked. It had too much sauce which made it very difficult to taste the natural flavor of the cod. The cod also seemed to be lacking some of its natural fish oil. I felt that this dish is super unhealthy. Note that this item is not available on their regular menu. This could be an introductory dish to their menu or a tasting dish. Alberta Pork Belly (Green Tomato Relish, Hazelnut). The pork was cooked perfectly. The pork had been smoked giving it a nice texture. It was crispy outside and flavorful inside. The pork had the right amount of fat so it was not dry and was super tender. I will definitely want to come back for this dish. Sunchoke Falafel (Black Sesame Labneh, Mint). This dish was not wow. It wasn't special. The mint or sauce was too overpowering. DESSERTS: Chocolate Tart (Vanilla Creme Fraiche). Nothing too special about the chocolate tart. It was good. The chocolate was not smooth as expected. It was quite dense and when you poke your fork through, the chocolate somewhat started to crack. So that tells me the chocolate is lacking in moisture. Warm Madeleines (Dulce de Leche). When I saw Madeleine on the menu, I didn't have much high expectations on them. To my surprise, they were super delicious. It had a nice outer crispy crunch and it went very well with the dipping sauce. Overall, my meal was superb. For the price I paid, I can't complain. Service was great. Decor was really nice inside. The restaurant has a super nice vibe for any groups. If you have never been to this restaurant, I suggest trying it. Back in 2017, they were listed as top 10 restaurants in Canada. I had this place bookmarked then and I am so glad I can finally give this place a try. You will not be disappointed. They are sister restaurants to some of the most popular restaurants in Calgary like Model Milk, Anju and etc.

Late Night Snack at Pigeonhole was a delightful experience. I just wish I was not that jet lag as it was way passed my bed time and I had not sleep for almost 24 hours! Tapas Style, Vegetables Forward and Something different? I like Pigeonhole surprised me with unconventional presentations and interpretation of their take of food. Charred Cabbage Albacore Tuna Ricotta Dumplings Service was attentive and our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. The decor here has this rustic speakeasy vibe. Too dark for good photos but perfect for that late night after bar hopping and you still wants a night cap!

Absolutely fabulous. I have start by saying I love any restaurant that thane the cheese out of the fridge before opening. Small plates restaurant with impeccable service. I enjoyed the pork ribs, grilled cabbage with some delicious cheese on top, homemade burrata with peas and mint, tomat Again tonight delicious...exceptional consistent restaurant

Chicken Parm and Skinny Fries

Whoever rates this place 3 stars or less went on a bad day. If I had to rate everything I had out of 5 stars: Dr Pepper Old Fashion 5/5, Beef Tartare (must have, such amazing tastes) 6/5, Chicken Parm 3.5/5, Skinny Fries 5/5, Service 6/5. Yes, I typed that correctly -- service far exceeded expectations: super friendly staff and gave a couple of free sample drinks. Worth a visit!!

This was a very cute spot for brunch. The food and drinks were delicious. I would highly recommend the Berry White, I really enjoyed the fruity and floral flavours with the cinnamon.

Pigeonhole is Model Milk's twin sister with an eclectic twist towards small shareable plates. They've made quite a name for themselves already despite only being open for a year. The entrance isn't where you'd expect it to be but that's part of the charm. Love the charcoal coloured exposed brick and vintage sign. The patio out front looked like a great place to sit for couples or if you wanted to people watch the night away. The menu is a one pager and split into vegetables, meat, seafood, seasonal, caviar, cheese and sweets. The space is absolutely gorgeous; elegant, cozy, modern and intimate. Love the wide open kitchen concept. We were seated right in front of all the action. Service is excellent and our waitress was able to walk through the full menu with my sis to make sure everything was good for her to eat. - French 75 ($14.50) - BC cherries ($12.00) - Clams casino ($4.00) - Ricotta dumplings ($16.00) - Fresh oysters ($20.00 for 1/2 dozen) - Smashed cucumbers ($11.00) - Zucchini ($13.00) - Heritage angus steak ($26.00) - Grilled duck leg ($18.00) - Lamb breast ($15.00) - Stuffed mountain view chicken ($29.00) - Cheese platter ($35.00 for five cheeses) - Strawberries and cream ($8.00) Flavours, presentation, and service - Pigeonhole has it all covered. We had a great meal here but my only complaint here would be the portion sizes. Besides that, it's a great addition to 17th Ave's burgeoning restaurant scene.

Not many bottles are older than 10 years, but a number of suppliers provide pretty much the rarest new stuff available in the region. Cold cuts, sardines and cheese served, the place is full of young young, smiling people listening to unobtrusive music. Make sure you find the stairs from the street level to get here. Oh, and they have Les Robarts by Suenen. I had to visit four wine stores in Champagne to get two bottles of that. Good luck finding that anywhere else.

We were greeted by a group of bartenders (who all happened to be wearing toques) when we walked in, and I felt both welcomed and slightly out of place (no toque). The cocktails were meticulously crafted--priced at $15-20 a drink, it's on par with bigger cities like Vancouver and Toronto, but they also live up to the standard. Honestly, the highlight of our visit to Missy's was the Missy's This That charcuterie board. Each piece of cured meat was sliced impossibly thin, the olives were meaty and delicious, and the cheeses were carefully selected to complement everything. I loved that it also came with a side of thick cut bread and pickled vegetables. One of the best charcuterie boards I've had at a restaurant for sure. Not cheap but worth the pretty penny on a slightly fancy night out.

The offered drinks and served us and offered pleasant conversation. Our party arrived and we moved to our table. Unfortunately they did not carry the glasses to the table which were filled with paid sparkling water. Instead offered more for purchase and new glasses. Not professional. We also realized quite quickly our waitress must be new. She had none of the answers to the menu questions we asked. In top of the slow and poor service the noice level between the music and the other guest was mind numbing. They must do something about the sound that carries in the room. Not one person at our table finished or enjoyed the food. We feel the chef must have overpowered everything with salt. This was a fail. 3 starts for the nice staff

When they served the dish, I was disappointed to find out it was over-cooked to medium. After asking the waitress to reorder the steak, it still came back as medium with just the middle section to be medium rare. Since the other four people already finished their meal, I quickly finished half of it. The manager came over to ask about the steak, but did not really apologized for overcooking this $55 CAN steak. Definitely not recommend coming to this place for steak.

Oakley was our server and he was so kind and informative about the menu and how the restaurant operates. The oyster of the week were the Melpeque's which starts off salty, but compensates the saline flavor with a boom of sea mineral richness. Oakley checked in on use occasionally and was also kind enough to give us (since we're Californians) some of the usual things that take place in Calgary (weather, places to check out and etc.) Definitely returning here if we make another trip to Calgary, shout out to Oakley!

When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted right away but even though we had reservations there was some talk about where to sit us. The main dining was near full and so they offered patio or upstairs. It would be more private upstairs as there was no one up there but they warned us that service was slow. Eventually, they sat us in a booth in the main dining area but it was touch and go in the beginning. Not a great impression. Our server mentioned to us that he was new. We found him very friendly and knowledgeable. We came here for the oysters - we ordered 1 Irish Point, 1 Fanny Bay and 2 Malpeque (I wanted to try one). The Malpeque also was the feature Oyster which means they are $1.50 each. I don't usually eat oysters but thought it was good. My wife says the Irish Point and Fanny Bay were good. Because the Malpeque was good and really meaty we ordered 7 more (I wanted one more). Oysters 5* Lamb Shank 4* - Wife ordered this and said it was tender and good. Lamb Burger 2* - Daughter ordered this and patty was small and dry. Lobster Pasta 4* - Son ordered this and lobster tail was meaty and sweet ad pasta was tender. I decided to order 3 appetizers for my meal. Onion Rings - 3* - basic Korean Spicy Chicken Wings 4* - Good kick, but the wings were not that meaty. Seafood Chowder 4* - Lots of things in the chowder. Broth was flavourful but could have been thicker. Service before we got our meals (ordering) and during our meal was great. 5*. We may not come back for dinner but maybe for the Oysters, some appetizers, and drinks.
