Ambiance: Hotel Overlook inspired bar/restaurant with 60s & 70s decor where retro meets cozy + upscale. The menu, drinks, & decor play homage to Stephen King's The Shining. Great date night spot or enjoying dinner with friends. The rigatoni was spicy but delicious! Highly recommend their unique cocktails. If you're an espresso martini fan, the Eyes Wide Shut is a must order. Our server was friendly and helpful. We did wait a bit to order and for our drinks/food to arrive but it was a Saturday night so that was to be expected. Decent pricing for the quality of food/drinks. This is an awesome place to go if you want good drinks, food and just chill and carry a conversation. It's right on Stephens Ave. and right across from the Hyatt Regency. We came in around 10pm and luckily they were able to seat us downstairs right away. I feel so bad for the hostess because she had to run up and down the stairs and also buss the tables. Downstairs is a 70's vibe and I dig it. Their drink menus change seasonally and the prices are not too bad if you are from the US. It's almost like a speakeasy in a way and they put more effort in to their drinks. Overall, I highly recommend coming here if you just want to chill and get away from all the noise on Stephen Ave. read more

2024 NYE review! As you enter, the decor hits with an old school literary class vibe. Typewriters adorn the bar wall. Bar seats are leather bound and comfortable. The cocktails and appetizers definitely reflect the detail oriented feel of the restaurant. The cocktails are organized by category so it's easier to select. Please order the focaccia with the Winter Burrata. The pairing complements each other with the crunch of the focaccia with the smooth burrata. I had a reservation for my birthday for 15 people. Some people came in a little late, when they told the hostess the name that reservation was under, the hostesses laughed and whispered to each other from what my friends told me. We were walking up and down Stephen Avenue and stumbled across this spot. We asked for a quick place to sit and decided to go downstairs instead of the bar upatairs--and MAN was I really glad we did! Downstairs takes you to an awesome, funky, 70s basement. With elaborate carpet, wood paneling, and a groovy bar in the back you won't be disappointed by the vibes. (Extra points for the old school, Motown music jamming in the background!) We had a few cocktails, which were all themed after a director and movies--a concept I really enjoyed, and my sister ordered the oysters. She enjoyed the oysters very much and all four of our cocktails were tasty! This was probably one of my most favorite, unique bars I've been to. Hip, cool, trendy, with delicious amazing food. I'm not sure how I never knew about this place. It's on the famous stephan avenue in a prime spot with spectacular views of the Calgary tower and downtown. I was cycling around and decided I wanted to go to the most touristy spot in Calgary I could find. Yup this place is dead center of it all. The views on the outdoor patio are spectacular and honestly that itself was worth it. The food was top notch. Plated beautifully. Fresh ingredients. Delicious items all uniquely prepared with a fancy personal touch. In my opinion, it wasn't even that pricey for what you got as the portions were reasonable and everything was made with specialty farmers market quality products. I had the wagyu beef burger which blew my mind on first bite bc that sweet relish was phenomenal. You could tell it was all locally sourced and freshly made. The fries, bun everything was perfect. I gobbled every piece off my plate. It was too good for leftovers!!! I was so stuffed but impressed by the food I got dessert and hell...it did not disappoint. A matcha tres leche was perfect with just a hint of sweetness which didn't overwhelm the matcha! It was divine. I don't use that word often in reviews but this place deserves it. The staff were friendly and so nice to even mention the indoors area is used as a set for the show mad Men! An Instagram worthy place. I walked inside and it took my breath away. The ceilings, the bar, chandelier, art, damn even the washroom felt like a posh movie set from the glamorous 60s. The basement was so cool I wanted to order a drink there! This will be my go to place...EVERY SINGLE TIME I'm in Calgary. Check it out. U won't be disappointed. First time there. Decided to go for the fixed menu YYC 3 course lunch special. Has the smashed cucumber salad which was tasty, decided on the tuna steak and frites. Portion of tuna I found small about 3-4 ounces, fries were average. Chose the tart for desert and it was good. Service was attentive and efficient. Had ask to have the music turned down significantly and it was turned down without any issue. Decor and ambiance is 10/10 with a The Shining theme throughout. The upholstery could use a good cleaning though. read more

A friend of mine and I decided to go to the Wednesday Room as we had heard good things about this place. We got a table in the basement which gives a better experience than upstairs. We went on a Wednesday when they have happy hour all day and with glass of wine for $6 and a charcuterie board for $15. They have great decor and atmosphere. I specially liked the basement, it feels cozy and welcoming. The service was excellent. Overall we had a great experience and can't wait to go back there. read more

Excellent food and excellent service. Fellow Yelper and I had their summer feast prix fixe lunch meal and we had a blast. We both chose the same options, starting with beef tartar, which came with plenty of fresh toast. Our pasta was absolutely delicious and was apparently a Croatian recipe since the chef had Croatian roots. The dessert was a simple yet fudgie brownie that was elevated with the soft cream cream and raspberry coulis. The meal cost $25 but you need to treat yo self! read more

I have never been to this restaurant before but they had a booth at the Rocky Mountain Food and Wine Festival this year (2018) and the food items that they had there were amazing! They were serving: - Salmon Tartare - Pork Belly Bao - The Real McKinley Cocktail - Ellipsis Cocktail - Always Sunny in Phili Cocktail Their Cocktails are delicious and have such unique names! New place that opened recently on Stephen Avenue. Great food, drinks and staff. Reminiscent of the movie "The Shining" We had the Polenta chips and charred Cauliflower as appetizers: the Polenta chips had a very nice crunch and a flavourful dip that was a nice accompaniment. The charred Cauliflower was literally a huge head of Cauliflower. Sounds simple but oh so delish. Definitely recommended for herbivores and carnivores alike. For our mains, we got the Pasta Pljukanci (try saying that ten times fast), and the Risotto. Both dishes were very rich. Would definitely come back again to try other items on the menu. read more

The 60's lounge vibe is what Wednesday Room has going for it, it's a place you could come and hang out for a drink or two. And I stress that last part because holy moly are the cocktails pricey here! (~$15 a drink, we had the Perfectly Old Fashioned and Le Magifique) We checked this place out after they had their soft open so didn't get the opportunity to try the food, although I've heard great things about it. I'll have to give it another go, although with the competing venues that surround the area with late night happy hour Wednesday Room might need to step up their game. read more

Trash service. They obviously had coat check but didn't offer it to us. The host didn't even speak to us just communicated through the server it was so bizarre. They don't have menus and want you to go to their website to see it but don't have a QR code to scan, weird and dumb. Server yelled at us while walking to the kitchen that they would be right with us and then didn't come back at all. This is a late review. My friend and I came over the summer for their summer feast and we were excited to try this new restaurant. It was a 3 course lunch for $25. While the food was decent, the portions were not. The portions were actually tasting size and I guess we're expected to order alcohol or additional food, but I thought for events such as the summer feast it is a great time to showcase your dishes, not leave guests hungry and needing a second meal after. Service was great, but the next time I come I will not partake in any fixed price menus. read more

My friend ordered cocktail which she emphasize "no strong" and she end up having old fashion.I laugh! This place is cool. Just came in for a cocktail, As this spot was recommended by a bartender at the Unicorn Superpub. I think our server's name was Russia and she was a sweetheart. The cocktails were really good. Nothing I've ever had before. I had the Red Rum and my date had The Traveller (suitable for us as we both love traveling and are visiting Canada for the first time!). On some random notes, I really love the ceiling tiles and the smell of the bathroom soap! A few others guests shared the "fireplace" setting with us and they had ordered some food and desserts that looked fantastic. I would have liked to order something sweet, but I was full from dinner that we had at Unicorn. I recommend this place if you're looking for an intimate cocktail with a date, or quiet setting with a small group of friends. read more

Must admit, great place for drinks and cocktails, but was not a great experience for food. Ordered the 39 ounce tomahawk steak, medium rare, and it was tough. It came out a little more than medium, but the meat was extremely tough and was not tender, not melt in your mouth as I would expect from a 45 day aged steak. Even at the centre of the steak. For a $124.50 piece of meat, definitely was am extreme disappointment. Cauliflower was great, but the octopus was a little tough as well. Service was good, but would not recommend dinner. read more

I was visiting from Scottsdale and this restaurant was recommend for good cocktails and food. We waited and waited and waited (and the restaurant was empty in the basement where were )for a server. Finally when she came she had ZERO knowledge of the cocktails or menu and actually didn't seem to care. After ordering drinks we waited and waited for our drinks, this happened after every round we ordered. The drinks actually were good. The food was also good but again we waited forever for it with not even one apology. The server never offered water and seemed extremely annoyed with every request, which shouldn't happen when the place is empty and you are paying a lot for your meal.
