Bullshit place wouldn't let me in because I was wearing sweatpants. I will never recommend this place.

Management at this bar is awful. We made a reservation months in advance only to be told when we arrived at the bar that our reservation didn't exist. When we talked to one of the guys at the door, he advised us that what happened to us was "just Jordan" who is the manager who "confirmed" our reservation beforehand. Once we got inside - after waiting in line - we found a server and explained what happened with our plans. She said "this happens all the time" - meaning, the manager by the name of Jordan pretends to make reservations only to not actually make them and have people show up to nothing. Thankfully, the server we dealt with allowed us to take an available table (after we were told it was fully booked). Moral of the story is that the servers we dealt with were awesome - one of the doormen were rude and dismissive. The bar manager by the name of Jordan was absolutely atrocious. If you're planning ahead of time - don't trust this bar or management who allegedly try to help you. We won't be back. read more

this horrible place expects you to show up in clothes their 18 year old door kid approves. I'm pushing 40 and your dress code means f*** all to me when I've paid for ticket. I was told by this child I wouldn't be granted access until I went home and change...which I did and that was another cab ride...that's outlandish so when I got back I went to another bar across the street to drink somewhere that gave me respect before the show...they found out about that and made me take my review down for a couple beers...nah that's horrible...this place is absolutely garbage and until they get their heads out of their ass about what people can wear to their precious little club (which is overpriced and not worth it) they can have a bad review...don't go to this garbage venue read more

Three girlfriends and I made a reservation a week in advance to celebrate a birthday at Sub Rosa. We arrived at 8:30pm on a Friday and it was pretty quiet, even though the doors open at 7pm. We loved the atmosphere because the music wasn't blaring. We could actually hold adult conversation and properly hear each other. It was noticeable when the music got louder around 10:30, but it was still tolerable. We left at 11pm and by then the place was busy. The crowd ranged in age from 20's to 50's and it was an interesting mix of people. Most were dressed up as we were. It has a classy feel and we had stellar service. The only thing we all needed to adjust to was the co-ed bathroom. My friend was accosted by a guy seeking a wardrobe opinion who then decided it was okay to lift up his shirt to show off his "abs." I don't know how often this sort of thing happens, but it shouldn't have happened at all. It would be nice for Sub Rosa to remind the male patrons to be respectful to the ladies when there isn't staff or security monitoring them. Despite this one incident, I would return for a second visit and my friend who was flashed in the restroom said she would too, but next time it might be with her husband. read more

Not worth the money. The decor and music are fine but too much pressure from the place to spend on drinks with not enough service. We had booked a table in advance and a little bit of attention from the staff would help us to spend on drinks with pleasure rather than a threat to be charged anyway. Looks like a smart business model - why try to serve and sell if you can charge your customers anyway? And even include tips. For drinks that were never sold... Apparently after the midnight the prices for drinks are going up. We received 10 minute heads-up. So we really needed to chase the sever to hit the goal and meet the requirement of the place before the deadline...not a good sport when you actually came to relax and have fun. But gives a feeling of an adventure and an accomplishment after all ! The bouncers boss is a separate story. If you like to feel humiliated- look no further. The main doormen is unreasonable and overindulging himself with the power this job gives him. May be a jail / correction unit would be a better fit for his carrier rather than an up-scale club in downtown.. Turned out he confused me with some one else and treated me quite harsh which I would never expect in a classy place. He made me feel rather miserable and small .. finally he let me in but did not apologize. I hope eventually he would start handling the customers with more respect and understanding- clients come to spend money, the end-to-end experience need to help them in doing so and presumption of un-guiltiness is still a thing unless proven otherwise... and may be just get some people skills and start profiling people a little better. In fairness to the place, the manager in charge did have to apologize , although it took 30 minutes of my time to explain and figure out what happened and why. Which put even more pressure to meet the drinking deadline! This place has great potential but still need to work on professionalism. Mixed feelings and a bit disappointed. read more

I was jumped in the washrooms at subrosa and my teeth were knocked out for no reason. The staff and the police did not care about me at all and seemed to defend the attackers. I warn everyone not to go there. If you get attacked the police will not do anything to protect you. In fact my friend was held by one of the staff as the assault occurred as well. Its a dangerous place. I was only a bystander and I have blood dripping from my face and I'm missing a tooth! read more

My friend and I stayed in Calgary one night and this place was recommended and we sat on the patio and our server was very sweet and very attentive! We loved this place and fell in love with the surroundings of it! Right in the heart of downtown, plenty of police officers walking around making it feel like a very safe place to hang out with friends! If I'm ever in Calgary again I will definitely return to this awesome bar! read more

Attended Sub Rosa for a girlfriends birthday and invited my Bumble bffs that I matched with on the bumble app to join as this is by far one of the best lounges in Calgary!!! Great drinks, amazing music and you always run into someone you know there as it's the place to be! Just a tip, always reserve a table as it gets quite busy on weekends!! My Husband and I had a nice dinner at The Guild and randomly decided to check out Sub Rosa for a relaxing cocktail. Its a lovely big space, modern, well laid out and a decent sized dance floor. (Were we still in Calgary? haha) The DJ was very good, the cocktails were well crafted and tasty but expensive, $34 for two before tip. It would be a perfect place to go with a big group of friends, make sure you reserve a table! read more

Tonight being NYe; our friends had paid ahead and got us a table for 10 ppl. A week ago; they had. They had beat us there by 5 mins . When we arrived the doorman said his manager wouldn't allow us in with my boyfriend wearing jeans; a collard shirt and dress shoes! I myself was wearing a fancy dress and stilettos ; mean while our friends came upstairs to see what was up; guys were wearing jeans as well! Horrible RUDE experience at Sub Rosa on Friday, October 12th by waitress and general manager. 4 of us arrived at Sub Rosa early, it was super quiet naturally being early so we made ourselves comfortable at one of the couch areas. The guy bartender was GREAT, he was super friendly and very accommodating, he was the only one that helped us and made us feel welcomed - we did not have one other person stop by to take our order or check on us which was fine considering it was early. We had a couple rounds of drinks which we got from the bar and were planning to stay for a bit but a little while later a waitress approached us and said "you have to leave this area is reserved", we were confused with the direct rude request and there was no sign or heads up from staff stating that and no one even made an effort to give us a 5-10 min heads up that it was reserved? But whatever...we decided to finish our drinks that were almost finished and comply but not even 2 minutes later the General Manager approached us and said "you have to go NOW we have a reservation". We said yeh yeh we know we are almost done and we were just told, also why isn't there a sign and seriously could they be any ruder, we are just finishing up. For a GM \ Waitress in the hospitality industry they were both super unprofessional. As a GM there are so many other things he could have done to make the experience better like - "hey thanks for stopping by, thanks for your business....can we get you another drink, sorry you have to move....sorry for not giving you a heads up that was our fault...." nothing of that sort which would have made ALL of the difference to us. I honestly would have just appreciated some professional treatment. We are completely turned off! We decided to leave the establishment entirely after being treated so poorly and being utterly turned off by the rudeness of the staff we told the GM as much - as we walked out he was unsympathetic and useless not to mention on a ego trip. Threatening to ban us for calling him out on his unprofessional and shitty attitude and poor management....he was doing us a favor. read more

Worst experience I've ever had at a club/lounge. Managers are scam artists, double and triple check your bill cause they will try to pull some shady math on at the end of the night if they think you're too drunk to notice, our bottle service went from $300/bottle to $400/bottle and they didn't think we would catch it. The waitress we had was terrible, very poor service, took our drinks away when we went to the dance floor. Waitress tried to take our bottle away while it was 1/4 full and ended up dropping it and spilling it all over our friends, this place was a complete joke. You can tell they were just trying to bring the tab up and didn't really care about customer service or providing a good experience. Music was good at least. read more

I have mixed opinions on this place. I don't know what to make of it honestly. It is sometimes packed where you can't move or get a drink and other times its dead and they close off half the bar with a curtain. The drink service has been either good or non-existent. The only consistency would be that the co-ed bathrooms suck and are just a good place for people to do drugs, the bouncers are very rude and unhelpful, and the prices are expensive. On the plus side I quite enjoy the music and the decor and its one of the few place in Calgary you can get dressed up for. So like I said, a mixed bag. TIP: If you're booking a table be warned that they purposely tell everyone to arrive at 10:30pm to create a long line up to make the place look cool. This results in a long wait and lots of confusion about why the people paying max dollar for tables have to wait in a long line. I think every bar in Calgary does this now though. Such a scam. And don't expect the bouncers or staff to be nice about it. read more

If you want to rack your evening, go to Sub Rose Calgary. You will be surprised from the beginning by bouncers guys. That was ridiculous and absolutely unexpected, I fell myself so measurable, treated rude and dismissive. Today is 21st century and somebody still can be so mean. For few seconds I couldn't realize where I am, in Alcatraz or downtown of Calgary. Now I see a huge difference between normal big city and cowboy city where people thinks that if they have some power like doorman it's ok to treat people in this way. As a business owner I would fire that person right away, because soft skills and customer service is still priority number one for anybody who wants to make some money. Nobody comes for free, people wants to spent money and have fun, instead I got the worth experience what I could imagine. After that "welcome" entrance it didn't matter how club looks inside and what you can get, anyway service was so so as well. May be no-one at Sub Rose has ever taken course or thought basic customer service. Now I regret that I spent money there even it was just $30. read more
