I've always loved Dickens for their underground feel, which is literal since they are actually located in the basement! I've seen live music from acoustic to funk to metal to electronic and I've had the best time every single time I go. The layout makes it an incredible live music pub. There's an elevated stage, and the further you get from the stage, the more chill the room becomes. A substantial dance floor for the people who are really into the music right up front, a side stage lounge-ish area with couches, bar tables for the sit down and enjoy crowd, pool tables at the back and even a 'library' section that is almost and entirely different room. Energetic live music at the front, and enjoyable live background music that won't interupt your conversation at the back. Well done Dickens. I never realized it before last night, but Dicken's food menu is actually awesome! They have a fry bar where you can choose you cut of potato, your topping - ranging from choices like "Christmas" which looked to be a sugar cinnamon thing or Truffle Parmesan. You can even get sauces like Guiness Curry to dip them in. It's going to take me a long time to get through all these combinations. I ordered the chicken and waffles for $12 and really enjoyed it. Blackened grilled chicken, cornbread waffle and a spicy Cajun sauce! I think I will check out the pizza next time as it looks like they're something a little special as well. You do a live music bar really really well, Dickens. It's ridiculous that I don't spend 5+ days a week here.

Friday special: fish and chips. Plus an 8" pizza. Delicious, especially for a bar.

I have been here a couple of times, so I feel comfortable in saying this is a great bar, mostly aimed at the punk/alternative/goth crowd but there is always a little something for everyone. So for some reason on the yelp page it says this place is closed on Sunday's. Not true as the doors open for your nerd crowd and there are board, video, and tabletop games for all to enjoy. I really like coming on a Sunday (as I love board games) because it's a nice atmosphere to enjoy some different games and meet people. If you're not there for a specific group, though, you can't be shy. You will need to be a little more forceful in trying to get into a game but everyone has always been friendly and willing to teach games to newcomers. Plus, I like it better than Sentry Box simply because you can delicious breakfast for $8, drink, AND play board games. Like I said, I think it's a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Anyway, if you're not into board games the rest of the week it has a much more bar like atmosphere. There are specials everyday (including wing Wednesday's) and on the weekends there is usually live music to enjoy. Definitely check the website, though, to see if it's a bad you would like because that would definitely color your experience. From what I can tell its a range of musical styles but leaning more into the alternative crowd. There are pool tables, darts, and a couple of arcade machines to keep you active as well. There is a good floor for dancing and some comfy seating in the back. The food is pretty good bar-style food and the drinks are usually pretty strong. If you're looking for a good bar with some diversity and a great place to be a regular, I really think dickens is your place. If you're looking for a typical sports bar, though, keep looking as this isn't necessarily aimed at that crowd.

I checked out a show here last weekend and it was RAD. Seriously. The place rocked, the crowd was hype, and the show had me high on adrenaline. The drinks and food are tasty, but the best part of Dickens is the staff. Everyone is down to earth and friendly. I left with more friends than those I came with. What could be better?

Dicken's is a cool unpretentious pub in the bowels of an office building on 9th Ave SW. It's an unlikely place for a great pub, but yet another example of the "don't judge a book by its cover" adage. The dark spacious pub has lots of seating, great service, affordable pub grub, and is a great place to check out local live music. They have live music pretty much every night of the week. If you're interested in checking out a band, be sure to check out their comprehensive website in advance, or even take a look at their sign as you drive past for upcoming artists. I like coming here for the live music because it's pretty cheap, dark like a music pub should be, and the acoustics are pretty good. Dicken's has an authentic Cheers type feel to it, and their friendly service and live music is sure to have you Cheers-ing long into the wee hours.

It's a pool table. In a pub. K?

A little pricey but good pool tables, darts, and lots of choice for beers make it a great after work bar.

Not a terribly bad venue, however prices should come down. Seen a few good shows here. Kinda like "the zoo" in wpg, just shittier.

Here's what we ordered: Mango boba - surprisingly tart and could've used a bit of sweetness Peanut chicken salad - flavorful and refreshing, with noodles at the bottom Fish tacos with sweet potato fries - the beer-battered fish was crispy and delicious While the food was solid and the patio atmosphere was great, the service really impacted our experience. When we were ready to pay, it was difficult to get our server's attention. My husband eventually had to approach her across the patio, and she processed our payment while standing right there. It seemed like they were short-staffed the day we visited, which might explain the delays, but the lack of attention was still frustrating. Overall, good food and a nice setting, but I'd give it 3.5 stars due to the service issues

Food here is just alright. Fish tacos weren't bad but the fish wasn't crispy at all. The quasedilla "tortilla" was a little thick. The meat in the BBQ rice bowl was pretty good, but the ratio of rice to everything else was too high. The salad was pretty good and quite a large serving. We had A LOT of trouble flagging down our waitress, especially near the end when we were ready to pay, which was quite frustrating and the main reason I'm docking stars. However, I will say the setup outside is really nice. There are hanging plants, pretty large tables, music that's not too loud, and overall a nice vibe. I think for a slow, casual evening out this place will have you covered.

We visited last night and started off on a high note with an excellent wine selection. The…read moresommelier, Bobby, was fantastic--knowledgeable and personable. The wine list isn't huge, but what they offer is curated and impressive. We ordered the Wedge Salad and Truffled Arancini. Both arrived about 15 minutes later. The salad was underdressed, and the Arancini, while hot, lacked the tomato sauce that would have elevated the dish. Minor issues, but we moved on. Unfortunately, the main course experience was disappointing. After waiting 45 minutes, our entrees finally arrived--at room temperature. At that point, we were too hungry to send them back and wait another 20 minutes. When we shared our concerns, the staff initially offered complimentary desserts, which felt inadequate given the circumstances. After further discussion, they comped both entrees and provided a $25 gift certificate, which was a fair gesture and appreciated. The GM and Bobby personally apologized and invited us to ask about "little surprises" in the wine cellar next time, which was a nice touch. Overall, great wine and recovery effort, but the kitchen timing and food temperature need serious improvement. Hoping for a better experience next time because the potential is there.

I followed the more than 48 hour rule to cancel the room without penalty and was told that its was during their blackout period and should have read the fine print. I'm really not even sure if that is legal. The hotel takes the full amount of the charge for the room at the time of booking, not at the time of check in and keeps the money regardless of when you cancel if it falls "in their black out period" that is not clearly identified when booking those dates. You better not have plans change or have a family emergency! RIP OFF. Buyer beware, do not book.
