Located in Kensington neighborhood. The neighborhood is cute. It has many local businesses. We found this spot while walking around and the fish and chips lured us in. They have Inside and outside seating including an upstairs patio. We sat outside. The umbrellas provided shade. Haddock and chips: perfectly battered. Big portion. Tasty. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw, but that was just a tiny part of the meal. Pimms cup: the drink was refreshing. Not too sweet. The place does give you an I'm in Ireland feel. The waitress was nice. We sat at an outdoor table with great weather. This place has such a nice vibe in a quaint part of town. I had the Shepard's Pie and it was rich, hearty, piping hot, and ai would go back and order the exact same dish. This was my first time trying Poutine and it was yummy. One of my co-workers said the poutine was average and could have used more cheese. She ordered the short rib dish and loved it. I ordered the liver and onion. The liver was very good. The sauce nothing spectacular and no taste of balsamic. The potato was fairly tasteless and dry, and no hint of garlic. My girlfriend ordered fish and chips. The batter was dark brown rather than golden and was therefore over cooked. It was also greasy. read more

Recent Sunday night last minute dinner, we chose Kensington Pub and were thrilled with our choice. They were understandably out of Sunday roastie, but we took the bartender's suggestions of shepherds pie and steak and Guinness pie. Someone told us the scotch eggs were freshly made, so we shared one to start. What a delicious dinner!! I find Kensington Pub to be a cute little place to have drinks with friends. Since it's located off the busy Kensington Road, it tends to be a little quieter and a little more intimate. That could be because it has three stories in the place, so everyone is very separated. I like that you can choose to sit upstairs or down. It gives me the feel of an old country house with its all wooden interior and decorations. I find it to be very quaint and cute... I know, how can a pub be cute right? But it is. I also really enjoy the staff at this pub. They always seem so nice and friendly, even if the patrons are getting a little rowdy. I speak from experience since my friends tend to get somewhat obnoxious when they're drunk, but the workers are always amused and are never belligerent to us! I don't visit this place as much as I should, since I really enjoy it. If I was in the Kensington area more often, then maybe I'd go there more... it makes for a pretty nice time. read more

Well, if it's the Kensington Pub, you say it's probably the nicest and most pretentious, expensive pub you could hope to have such an experience. I thought it extra special when the server I explained my predicament to was so kind as to ask me if I wanted a new beer. No, I'll just drink around the toothpick. Waste not, want not, as they say. This pub fits into Kensington quite well. It's always busy in the evening, filled with locals relaxing and enjoying a pop. It has an old time feel and is a decent place to stop in while in the area. One time they wouldn't serve us because my girlfriend didn't have her id. I understand the laws of the land, but why would I take a 17-year-old to a pub in Kensington? The waitress obviously knew she wasn't a kid, but insisted on seeing id. If I was sneaking kids into bars, it wouldn't be the laid back atmosphere of a pub. I'd take the kids to a real crazy, happening place where music was pounding and they could run wild and free. Common sense is hard to come by these days.... It's like grabbing a beer at your good friends house - if your friend is a fierce gentleman from Britain in the late 1800's, who holds doors, offers his coat, and could fist fight a bear if the situation arose. Kensington Pub (K-Pub or KP for all you locals) is one of my favourite warm and cozy spots for a pint (or six) of some local or Euro brews and good conversation when the weather outside is frightful. Brick and woods walls, stained glass windows, and heavy wood tables and bars give this pub a real authentic, old-time feel. It looks to be an original Calgary century home that's been converted into a a tavern. If it's not, they do an bang up job of making it seem like it, and I love the multiple rooms and levels that give it that old house feel. There's a variety of table sizes throughout so if you want to sit at the bar with a friend, no problem. You want to hang out in a booth with 6 friends? No problem! It's a popular spot that fills up fast, so getting the perfect spot that works for you and your posse of english gentlemen can involve some lurking about at the bar to pounce on favourite table when a party leaves. They've got a good sized menu full of English comfort fares and Canadian pub classics, that have been delicious and consistent every time I've been. Ask if they have Curry and Chips! I have frequented Kensington Pub on more than one occasion. I've walked in, stumbled out. I've stumbled in, stumbled out. And I've ordered a drink wondering to myself how I ended up there and how long I'd been there for. I'm also pretty sure I fell asleep once upstairs. Needless to say, this place is a lot of fun. It's very small, hidden around a corner, and easy to miss (I've probably directed more people to it than visited it). The prices are about what you would expect in Kensington and they have a pretty good selection of draft beer. The service has always been good, with small exceptions during hockey games and other busy nights (to be expected). The food is also really quite good for a pub, and I would certainly recommend that anyone try it out. I did eat there sober once too, so it's certainly not just the alcohol talking. Unfortunately, I have to knock off a star for my first experience here. Despite my best efforts, I just can't shake what happened that night. It was my first night in Calgary after a horrible drive from Fort McMurray with my dad. We had decided it was time for a beer and wandered through Kensington looking for somewhere to drink. Our first stop was Kensington Pub, and despite not being busy at all, and despite sitting near the bar in full view of the servers, we didn't receive any service and after 25 minutes of waiting we left. Whether this was the case or not, my dad is still convinced it was due to his skin colour and vowed never to return (my dad is half east-Indian, and visibly brown). Last night was wing night at Kensington Pub, and it was also my very first visit there. WHAT A COOL PLACE!!! The people are fantastic, the location is prime, the interior is homey and welcoming and the service is wonderful! Our server was Melanie and she was amazing! She knows the menu/drinks inside-out and when she recited the 14 different types of beer they serve, it left a couple of us at the table speechless! When our group grew from 8 people to 14, the booth we were at no longer accommodated such a big group, so Melanie went and set up tables upstairs for us. I really love the atmosphere of The Kensington Pub. It's really laid back and everyone who goes there is friendly and approachable. It's the perfect place for a get together - it's not too loud, but it does have the staple television sets and music to ensure a good time. Their wings were super tasty (so I'm told) and their drinks kept us happy for a good few hours! If you're in the neighbourhood, I definitely recommend Kensington Pub. For a city that is barely 100 years old, Kensington Pub is a little piece of British history. I'm not really sure why but any time I go here I feel like I'm in England in the 1800s. There isn't anything particularly special about the pub. But it is pub, what do you want? The staff is always really and pretty attentive. The night we went, the waitress had the most fake laugh we'd ever heard. Eventually she was laughing at us, while we were laughing at her. Nothing really to do with the bar, just a little anecdote. Thursday night is their wing night, which is cool because usually food special nights are Monday or Tuesday night. The deal is $3.95 for a pound of wings. More than respectable. This is a great pub, plain and simple. If you can grab a table right beside the staircase (for groups of 4 or more) you'll be able to get some great people watching in while enjoying a great tasting beer! read more

After work, I wandered down to the Kensignton Pub for a Yelp event that was affectionately called: Yelpaholics Anonymous. http://www.yelp.ca/events/calgary-cmye-yelpaholics-anonymous-office-hours I met six fellow yelpers down there for about 90 minutes of fun conversation and some tasty eats. One of the yelpers named Sophy recommended the lime chicken tacos, which are made with seasoned chicken, fresh salsa and cilantro cream served on soft corn tortillas. Sounded like a good plan to me! They. Were. Delicious! What a fun spin on a chicken taco! They were really messy to eat, but whatever fell back onto my plate, I had my fork ready to polish them off. I wasn`t leaving anything behind! The Kensington Pub has a great atmosophere and the wait staff are friendly and efficient! Top points for having a sparkling clean bathroom, which isn`t always the case in a pub. It even smelled like bubble gum, so they must have had a yummy air freshner. :) I will definately be back! read more

While I don't frequent here, well, frequently, I've been here enough in my days to say, it's comfy and woodsy and probably about as close to merry ol England as you're going to get (aside from going to All Things British). Great for a blueberry tea (brandy & orange pekoe) on a chilly night or a pint, there's something familiar and cozy about this neighbourhood joint that you just feel good about. Kensington pub is one of my ye old favourite public houses. It is so quaint and adorable. I'm revealing my nerdy tendencies here, but I first visited because my friend described the place as the "Harry Potter bar". I immediately adored the place, and it does pass more than a passing resemblance to the Three Broomsticks in my mind. I don't know how I missed the Kensington Pub for so long, but I'm always up for a night there. The interior is small and homey and old-school, super cozy and antique and wonderful. It does feel like you are stepping into another century, or, y'know, magic. The three levels just add to said amazingness. And it has had a crowd everytime I've visited. I also love the food. And the beer. And the locals, and the mixed crowd in general because old and young and cool and hoser mingle freely here. A quiet but vibrant energy permeates the place, so you know you are guaranteed a good night. read more

Lots of reviews up here already, so I'll keep this short. It's a classic pub. Hearty meals, cold pints, lots of little nooks and crannies to sit with a friend or two and throw back half a dozen drinks, then stagger out to Kensington Rd for a cab. They have a tiny patio [8 seats?] upstairs. If it's a nice day, it's worth it. The servers have been there for years, and have an appropriate level of sass. Here's the scoop: They have a good beer list and Harp on tap. *Hearty tip of the hat.* They have decent pub grub, with a damn fine beef dip but iffy caesar salad. *Golf clap.* They have Strongbow on tap but it's the only cider they carry. *Confused jazz hands.* They have TVs that aren't at an ear spitting level. *Awkward hug.* But what will keep me coming back to this little gem and erupts in me, the most enthusiastic of *Kermit The Frog style arm waving yays* (the highest of emotional responses): The service. This crew is amazing. The last time I was in, I watched a woman in a striped tank top (i'm a nerd for not getting her name) totally dominate her section. Service was quick, friendly and attentive while she juggled multiple orders from what I could count, a 10 table section like a pro. Had the opportunity a few months back to visit K-Pub with a friend of mine who is a regular patron. I have to say, it did kind of change the experience a little bit to sit right up at the bar, while he chatted up the bartender and the brews kept flowing. It's probably just my imagination, but it was almost a little sitcom-y. (Given our conversation topics, think Seinfeld, really). Sitting at the bar also allows you to meet very interesting characters. For example, sometimes dudes who look exactly like Sean Penn who keep asking if your synthetic peacock feather in your hair is a pheasant when it is clearly a peacock, in order to make a conversation. The beer selection is the same pretty generic stuff as always, but at least it's not pretentious. Given other options in Kensington that I would never visit, K-Pub is a pretty solid place for a drink or three. Especially if you are as depressing as me and like to drink excessively on week days to beat the crowds. The perfect little hidden gem in Kensington....although me thinks it's not so hidden based on the reviews, cutesy nick name and buzz it has. Thing is I've walked passed it numerous times and always been uber curious. Then one day hubs & I decided we wanted to do a pub crawl of sorts. Like a low key "married still have to drive" type of pub crawl where we try out a few pubs (one drink, one appy at each)...take in a flick...the try out a few more pubs. Well we made 2 that evening and happily this was one of them. LOVE how small, old, homey & cozy this place is. So European and so welcoming. So far so good. Instead of an appetizer we decided on a meal since our next stop was a flick. Hubs went right for the Beef & Yorkshire Pudding and proceeded to inhale it without breathing when it arrived. I take this as a very positive, delicious experience for him. I decided on the Cod & Chips. Very pleased indeed! We enjoyed our bites with a mug of beer....bringing the entire meal in the $40 range. OK, so this time I'm not writing because of the food. I'm writing because of the service. Boyfriend and I went in on a Sunday afternoon around 2. We weren't really hungry but decided to have a snack of sorts. I ordered the veggie plate and he has the dumplings. They we both very good. Fresh veggies, great amount of ranch. His dumplings were hot and crispy and not greasy. The food is the only reason I gave this place a second star. Anyway.. our server came along and asked if we were ready. When we asked for another two minutes, the girl didn't come back for 15!!! The food came quickly and as I previously stated was excellent. Once we had finished our meals, we sat there aimlessly staring around. Boyfriend finally got bored enough to start playing with his phone. I stared at the servers stations. The girls standing at the station must have looked at me at least 5 times. Finally one of them acknowledged me and i asked her to "please get our sever, we'd like our bill." It took another 20 minutes for the girl to give us our bill. There was maybe 20 people in the building at this point. Needless to say we were both disappointed by the lack of motivation by the servers and the lack of hospitality. ON A SUNDAY AT 2PM!!! If this is the type of service they always have, then Friday and Saturday nights must be a crap show. Maybe the owners are smart enough to put the worst girls on Sundays in the hopes they'll quit. read more
