Superb service, delicious food, Luxurious atmosphere! The meat board was exceptional. They have two types. The tomahawk or the 3 meats board. I personally loved the tenderloin, but the other people at our table loved the other two cuts of meat! We tried all the sides and I just lived the broccocini, brussel sprouts and the roasted carrots. Everything was divine and cooked perfectly. We also tried 3 appetizers: Fried macn cheese, Octopus, and the garlicy bread. All of them were delicous. I honestly cant rave enough of them all. We also tried all the sauces for our steaks...the chimchurri, the red wine sauce and the drawn butter sauces stood out to us! A must when you want to eat fancy and spoil yourself or someone when in Calgary. read more

Good food and drinks, nice chilax ambiance, most of all Great friendly staff, Cassey our server; especially their manager, Mr. Manlangit, you made us feel welcome. Highly recommended this restaurant read more

If I can give more stars than 5, I would. We accidentally went in this restaurant after being so disappointed from a different restaurant. Krice Manlangit, the manager approached us and he was so welcoming. The service was great and so is the ambience. He told us to come back for their steak, and so we did the next day. Still a great service! He made our visit from California really worth it. read more

Wow what a sweet surprise ! This place is absolutely gorgeous Located on the vibrant street on Stephen's Ave /8Ave Was completely amazed by how beautiful the restaurant is! It looks very inviting and modern decor. The staff here was incredible! We were served by a very friendly waiter and was very friendly and happy to see Quebecers visit as he was also from Quebec and it was nice chatting away ahaha Food: Incredible and fresh 5+++* The Mushroom soup was my favourite it was just super thick and savoury. The deviled eggs were great! My favourite part was my poached egg mushroom dish oh my was that amazing ! If I could have another one of those I will definitely come back for it it was incredible! Ceasar salad was filling, fresh and crisp Meatballs were delicious tender 5++++ it even had melted cheese inside. My lobster risotto was alright.. if you like peas you'll love it I wasn't paying attention to the menu and I really dislike green peas .. so it was not for me! The lobster itself was amazing but had to skip the rice. Everything we ordered was delicious and definitely recommend this place 100% Cheers read more

Was in Calgary and just finished a late work day. This place was near the hotel. Parking lit near buy buts it's paid parking. I tried the following Mushroom soup. This was very nice and creamy and you can taste the mushrooms. I knew for sure it was home made. Just wish the portion was a bit bigger. Next up I had the meatballs. Probably one of the best meatball I had in a wile. Seasoned well and was fork tender. The sauce was a nice addition and not overpowering. Would order this again. The wait staff was helpful and friendly Enjoy and a must try read more

This restaurant is in the heart of Calgary and one of our HH spots for the night. The drinks are nice and menu is extensive. Outdoor patio is nice to sit at! The bites were just okay. Apparently this is the best calamari in Calgary but it was just ok for us. read more

We went here on a recent trip to Calgary for happy hour. It was hands down, our favorite place for cocktails in downtown!! Big shout out to Sam (congratulations!) and Julian, great bartenders! The drinks are sophisticated and delicious......the mixologists here definitely get it! We are from New York City so we have been lucky to have some of the best.....just for reference. The drinks are original recipes, the bar tenders are extremely well versed. All the drinks are artistically presented.......feast for the eyes as well. Spices, accompaniments and even ice cubes are thoughtful and complimentary. We also had some bar bites.....they get food too! Really nice atmosphere as well, great vibe! We came into the Calgary to pick something up downtown. My husband specifically wanted to head to Stephen Ave for lunch. The usual places like cactus and earls were packed. We saw the guild and it allowed for kids and wasn't overly busy so we headed in. We got the chuck burger with fries and the margarita pizza. The food was AMAZING. The burger was probably one of the juiciest burgers I have ever had. The fries were 10/10. My husband said his pizza was one of the best margarita pizzas. We would be back anytime we come to Calgary. It's absolutely beautiful inside too. read more

Pretty pricey! They charged us $40 for a nine ounce glass of wine! The mark up on the bottles of wine is 500%!!

Service was awful. We told our waitress we'd just be munching as we had a big lunch and ordered a few small plates to share. So she treated us very poorly and gave us no attention. Asked for a dessert menu and took 20 minutes and 2 attempts. Then asked for the bill when we ordered our last dish, and she said "she'd bring it in a bit". Last dish was served which was awful, had 2 bites and the plate looked untouched- manager asked if we wanted a box we said it was no good and he pretended like he did not hear. 30 minutes later we had to call the waitress over again for the check, and she had the manager bring it to us. We informed manager of our wait and displeasure and he did not care. AVOID read more

The food was secondary to what I found choice about this joint. It's located on Stephen Ave in the Hudson Bay Building. It has a street level patio that affords great people-watching and tanning opportunities on a sunny day. The interior is beautiful. The washroom is down flights of stone stairs and made me feel like I was in a Speakeasy. Why don't all washrooms have large wooden doors that extend all the way to the floor and ceiling?? The fries I had were the perfect crispness and perfectly seasoned. The pulled pork was meh and a bit greasy...the kim chi slaw surprisingly tame. My companion's dish was nothing to write home about. However, the dishes I saw passing by looked amazing, so I reserve the right to revisit. Very attentive and personable service staff! read more

Went here on date night with my boyfriend Saturday evening and I have to say, we loved the ambiance... cozy booth, dim lighting, and attentive waiter. Glasses of water and alcoholic drinks were never empty. We shared the Roasted Beet Salad and it was to die for!!! So good!!! I love beets but never had it this way until the other night. The presentation of this salad was beautiful on the plate (wish I had remembered to take a photo of it). For the main, I ordered the Linguine Carbonara and it was good but I didn't love it. There wasn't necessarily any wrong with it; I just wish it had more sauce as I found it kind of dry. He ordered the Steak and Frites with the steak medium rare (which was cooked to perfection) and his entire meal was delicious! The greens that came with his meal was fresh and the dressing was light and almost fluffy and flavourful. The only aspect of this restaurant that I didn't like is that the restrooms are down a wide flight of stairs into the basement of the building and is very secluded and dim; and when I say dim I mean kinda creepy dim. I'm sure it was not meant to be creepy but elegant and classy. I suppose I might be somewhat of a scaredy cat. Both trips to the ladies room I developed a special talent to be able to walk at Olympic speed in my four point five inch heels just to get back upstairs lol! All in all, we enjoyed our dining experience here and the food and service was great. A romantic place for date night for sure! The restaurant is actually in the Hudson's Bay building and the area we sat in, come to find, used to be the lingerie department of the store we were told. Would definitely go back read more

Nice patio with lots of tables and under the umbrellas and building for shade in the summer. Food was good I had the warm spinach and mushroom salad which had lots of goat cheese and then had the boneless short rib which was basically a brick of tender meat. Could have used a bit of vegetable accompaniment but this is Alberta so I guess all that matters is the beef. About $75 including tax tip and glass of wine. Good value and they let me stay and relax on the patio even after I was done and paid. read more

Wanted to try something different from the regular mainstream restaurant chains & this place seemed to fit the bill while wandering Stephen Ave. Looks classy from the exterior and inside: still classic but not upscale formal. They had a museum-like artificial display of curing meat & cheese which I'll give props to as unique but also a touch bizarre. Fair warning, vegetarian choices are pretty darn slim here. There are 2 tiers of table seating which helps you to appreciate the scale of the room. It was really hard to appreciate the decor though because it's quite dim inside. It felt like most lighting came from the bar/kitchen area. Service was alright, not quick, but not rushed either. Staff were nice as well. We were also regularly refilled on drinks (water & wine) without prompting...There was a half price Wednesday on wine bottles. I appreciate that the server knew what was popular on the menu. It's a smaller menu, but still a lot of options that are vastly different from the next. We considered group sharing platters, but ended up going for individual dinners: steak frites with CO2 Bernaise, ribs & korean poutine, and beef brisket. No regrets on any of those, each were plated well, serving size was decent with strong, robust & different flavours centered around enhancing the meat. Pricing felt fair & reasonable for the experience. On a side note: the washroom is an experience of its own... You have to go down 3 flights of stairs in the opposite side of the restaurant which is decorated in bright Victorian style, then at the level of the washroom; it looks like you are walking into a subway/horror house. There's a super creepy vibe aside from the modern historical decor & modern music overhead. It's incredibly dark & black in the washroom, the bright lighting from the stalls are barely seen with the doors almost touching the ceiling & floor. The solo antique chair with spotlight on it at the entrance gives it a haunting vibe, it's funny how those details is something I'll remember more than the dining experience because it was so disturbing. Would I eat here again? Absolutely! But I would definitely avoid taking a washroom selfie! read more

Ate here last week as it was handy to a music venue. We were verbally abused by front end for being late (exactly by an hour...got mixed up on the BC time change. Found this odd when the restaurant was at only 10% capacity. Food was meh except the short rib. Waiter was wearing a offensive tie pin promoting Canada/Russia relationships. Asked us twice within 30 seconds if we were celebrating a special occasion. Said NO both times. Seems he is more interested in politics then representing "The Guild" Best part of the night...half price wine. Worst...I have mobility issues...getting to the bathroom in the basement was an adventure. I reached out to management...no response. read more

OK, I'm a week late on my review. I went there for dinner on Thursday, July 13th....during Stampede. It's a nice restaurant in a great location. I was hoping for so much more. Clearly they were slammed. But don't restaurants want to be busy? Shouldn't they have planned for the crowds during Stampede? My friend and I were seated at the bar, which was OK. But, I think the bartender could have cared less about us. He was busy mixing drinks most of the time. Finally a waiter came over to take our order. The food came out pretty quickly, but it had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp for a while (Poutine). My friend wanted fries with his meal, but they had run out by then - 5:30pm. Anyway, I was in Calgary for business, so I probably won't be back. I certainly won't recommend this restaurant though. read more

It's Thanksgiving weekend so there's Lots to be thankful for. My host / colleague / friend suggested The Guild so I went with her. It's on STEPHEN ave very convenient to get to. Atmosphere is exceptional. Love the way the Guild puts their places together. The decor makes you feel comfortable. Even the bathrooms are a nice theme. Lamb burger was nice - not "gamey". Appreciated the ketchup. #Salad was #fresh & the dressing was well done. Simple & standard. Wine list was ok. Not the place for people looking for wine specifically. Moderately priced. Lamb burger $18. To make it a better experience for me, I will need to see the food being slightly different, albeit I had a very limited experience with the food choice. Will need to try other things on the menu to change my opinion. We may revisit. Service was good. Maître D was nice. Chatted about the nice navy blue dress "uniform" which looks professional. Great place for a discussion to close the week. Happy Thanksgiving 。 read more

The Guild is located in the heart of Stephen Avenue and has a beautiful interior! I came here with a group of friends for dinner. To start we tried their calamari, which I really loved. Definitely one of the best calamari dishes that I have ever had. My boyfriend and I split a dry aged prime rib steak for our entree. The prices I felt were reasonable (definitely cheaper than some other steakhouses in the city) but of course not a cheap meal. Overall the taste was a bit lacking, and the vegetables were a bit overcharred. I had quite high expectations for the steak and it was only average. The service was decent, but we waited a really long time to pay for our meal and the manager on the floor noticed but only stepped in to help the server grab our payment 10 minutes after he initially noticed us. read more

I can't decide if I like this place. I want to, I really do. I've walked past a few times and the decor looked super cool. People who have gone here for drinks have said there's an extensive cocktail and beer menu - which I've looked at it and there's definitely a variety. But our team lunch here was just meh. Nothing on the menu really caught my eye and I settled on the opened faced club house sandwich, as did my coworker. My boss was convinced by our server to have "The Guild" salad, which he claimed he ate pretty much every other day - which had to be good right? Our food came out and it looked really appetizing. My club house had a different twist to it: pulled roast chicken, chicken crackling and a smokey mayo - very tasty! The "house made ketchup" I could have done without. It was like a sweet tomato paste? Out of habit, I kept dipping my fries into it and it ruined my delicious fries :( My boss' salad was pretty much inedible. By process of elimination, we tried to figure out why it was so unbelievably salty. It wasn't the beans & asparagus, pancetta or goat cheese that was placed on top of the salad. We determined the pieces of mixed greens that were soaked in dressing was what made the salad so off putting. We weren't able to get our server's attention throughout our meal, so by the time he finally came to our table it was to clear mine and my coworker's empty plates and my boss' barely eaten salad. We did tell him about the dressing being too salty, to which he rectified by removing it from our bill and apparently had the chef taste, throw out and make a new batch. Our experience left a bad taste in our mouths (literally!), so I'm not sure if I'd head back here anytime soon. It's quite pricy ($18 for a sandwich) and nothing on the menu appealed to me. read more

This review is all about the private dining area they have downstairs and the food we ate. Was fortunate enough to snag an invite to dine at the Guild through Avenue magazine and what a fantastic treat this turned out to be. First off the space is just beautiful with seating along both side of the room and a long table set up for us in the middle. The bar at the end of the room is quite eye catching. I would just love to host an evening event here as the space would be incredibly versatile. We were treated to a couple of passed hors d'oeuvres which consisted of octopus pieces (so soft), bloody mary oysters, ceaser bites (mixed seafood balls deep fried), while sitting along the banquette seating. We were also having wine from Mission Hill that complimented the food really well, and servers were very observant to refill glasses though the hors d'oeuvres and into dinner service. Table was set beautifully for the meal with fresh produce used for the center pieces. The head waiter also made a point to ask everyone in the group individually about allergies (which we had noted previously) to make sure that the correct meal went to everyone. Really nice touch that takes the service above and beyond. Started with gin & tonic salmon which was unreal! Pretty sure it had been cold smoked as slightly firm on the outside and sashimi soft on the inside, dill creme fraiche, tonic gel on each piece of salmon, and Hendricks gin soaked cucumber bites. Can we start every meal this way for the rest of all time? Just the most amazing flavour all together. Mains were served family style. Everyone got a plated mini Braised Alberta veal and Quebec foie gras suet pie, say mini as they have this dish as a shared meal on their menu. Along the table they had plates of octopus legs, which were glazed with something delicious and super soft - its hard to get octopus right and they did a great job. Slow roasted pigs head was served with the skin glazed to a hard crackling style. You lift the skin to get at all the meat inside. This is a fattier part of the pig, but the meat is incredibly soft and well flavoured. They also had a dish called Prairie Pie - like shepherds pie but with bison + wild boar and smoked mashed potatoes. Unreal! This may be the best thing I have ever eaten. Really hope they put this on the main menu at some stage. At this stage I was getting real full, but dessert was still to be served. Birch syrup Chomeur Pudding, with garama masala shortbread and gooseberries. The syrup put the sweetness in the dish and wasn't overpowering. Even though I am normally not a dessert person, I managed to eat over half my portion before I had to stop because I was just so full! Over all, one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I am not sure what their regular service in the restaurant is like. Very impressed with service we got and the care taken by all the servers through the event. I most definitely want to come back and try some other dishes on the huge patio they have. This is not your cheap meal out, but based on our experience it is well worth every bite! read more

Amazing new place on Stephen Ave! It's huge, about 200 outdoor seats, 200 inside and a private room. We were very impressed by the food, sat in the patio and had a beautiful hip of beef. $12 special and it was fantastic. Look for the tomahawk of beef and the pigs head on the menu. Both look amazing. Also they have a full octopus as a meal. I think the menu is quite good and they did a great job with service. You can tell the staff was well trained!! Good luck to the guild! read more

The service and food here is absolute garbage. Came here in the afternoon for a late lunch and ordered the following: - Smoked deviled eggs - Smoked Salmon Niçoise salad - Fried calamari - Octopus salad - Mushroom soup All of these dishes were horrible. Also, do the chefs even taste what they make? Everything was overly salty -- to the point where I was chugging 5 glasses of water just to finish a bite. Our server was no better, she never smiled and was quite condescending. It's sad because the interior is gorgeous, but everything else here is shit. read more

-----Food----- I've visited The Guild 3 times, so my review is more than just a first impression. Lets start with the burgers: I ordered the $19 dry-aged Chuck beef burger, I wish I could review it but they messed up and brought me a Lamb Burger instead... No problem because I actually really like lamb. The lamb had a good taste, no complaints there. However... the Bun for the burger was definitely just a basic cheap bun from a plastic bag. For $2 less I can get a burger at one18Empire across the street with a high quality pretzel bun. Next lets talk about the Fogo Island Cod. It's 26$ and it's advertised to have bacon veloute, navy and green beans with house made bacon... They bring out this MASSIVE plate with a TINY portion of food in the middle. Within that Tiny portion is an extremely average piece of cod. Sitting on what looks like canned beans and like 3 half-ass pocket lint pieces of bacon. Wow, what an amazing house made bacon veloute... Not. Lets keep going. The mushroom soup! $11, comes in a small tea cup. This soup I can actually tell is made in house, it's not generic like the beans, buns and bacon: the triples B's haha. I have one last to review. I kept coming back to this place! Even after the last 2 times I've ate here I STILL came back to give this place another chance. The interior looks nice and the waiter is always really nice so I am REALLY trying to like this place. And I am very easy to please, if you check my review history I have 80 places reviewed that I gave 4-5 stars to. But I can only give this place 3 stars, it disappoints me that I can't give more. ANYWAYS, last review : The Fire-Roasted Squash Risotto coming in at $19. So far this dish has been the biggest portion out of all my previous meals here before. I can confidently say I am almost full after this meal. The ingredients were good quality, and it tasted good! -----Condition----- Clean and well kept. Bathrooms are in good condition -----Service----- They don't have enough staff. Very friendly staff, but when I was there the restaurant was PACKED and I only saw 1 lady with tattoos working at the bar serving all the drinks, taking every ones orders at the bar, and my lunch took literally 1 hour to come out. -----Cosmetics----- Average nice restaurant. Looks almost as nice as an Earls. But it seems the restaurant is pompous and believes their food should be double the price of Earls, with a quarter of the portion size of Earls, half the food quality of Earls and a fraction of the flavor that Earls delivers... -----Accessibility----- Located on Stephen avenue. No parking anywhere near, which is fine if you work in Bankers Hall as I do. read more

This review is for brunch at The Guild only. If you're looking for a brunch spot, this is not it. We made reservations here for Saturday at 12:45. We were sat down immediately and ordered drinks. Ceasars and mimosas were on special for $5, I think this may have been the only good part of our meal. The drinks came out quickly and we all ordered. There was 5 of us 2 orders of Bacon Benny, Burger, Steak and Eggs and a Croque Madame. It took us over 1 hour to get our meals. We finally were brought our meals at 2:15. And constantly had to ask to have our water refilled. We've been to the Guild for dinner and have always been pleased but brunch here was disappointing. My meal of Bacon Benny came on an English muffin 2 over crispy pieces of bacon and a medium poached egg (if they don't ask how you want your egg I would think they would just make it runny, no?) with barely any hollandaise sauce and some fried potatoes that were unseasoned and dry. I'm sure the waitress knew because she didn't even ask us how our meals were after. read more

I had an afternoon activity on Saturday June 29th downtown at Olympic Plaza, and because this is the only "dog friendly" patio in the area, my friend and myself, along with my 2 dogs, came to The Guild. It was 4:51pm. How do I know this? Because we got seated with only a cocktail menu, and when our waiter finally appeared, and my friend asked for dinner menus, he rudely responded that the kitchen isn't open until 5pm. Wow - not a great first impression PABLO!! I was unimpressed with Pablo from the very beginning. He was wearing blue jeans and (I think) a collared shirt (golf shirt type). And although I didn't go inside the restaurant, I get the feeling from the other reviews that The Guild is intended to be a classy place to be. I do not consider blue jeans appropriate attire for a restaurant aspiring to be a classy locale. I ordered the Mushroom Soup ($9) - I asked if it came with a bun or garlic toast - Pablo told me it comes with Sourdough bread. Great!! I love sourdough bread! Well... this sourdough bread is unlike any I have ever had before - I would say it was a "whole wheat" sourdough, because it certainly wasn't white. And I have been to San Francisco - the home of sourdough bread, and this is no standard sourdough bread. Plus, it was sooooo hard!! Difficult to bite into and chew. It also appeared on the cheque as a $2 "add on" ... so, No, Pablo, the mushroom soup doesn't "come with" sourdough bread - this is an optional side at an additional cost. There's a difference! My friend ordered a cheeseburger with a side salad. He left and she said "and what about the dressing" but Pablo was gone. I told her it probably comes with a house dressing (which it did) but it would have been nice to have been told that, and offer her an alternate if it was not to her liking. For whatever reason (dogs maybe??) Pablo just decided he didn't like us - two grown women being pleasant. Who knows?? We were looking through out phones at the photos of the activity for the afternoon - maybe he thought we were wasting his time?? I asked for water, she had a Caeser cocktail. Water came plain in a glass - no ice, no lemon... just ... water. And I had to ask him to refill it too because he wasn't paying attention to us. I asked Pablo for the WiFi password please. He was at the next table squirting/wiping for the next customers. He didn't stop what he was doing, he cleaned another 5+ tables, then went to the wait station. After a few minutes he came to our table with someone else's bill, turned upside down, with the wifi password written on it. Like... is this Top Secret?? Pablo - calm down... its wifi dude, not national secrets! Overall, I will never come back. Mostly because of Pablo. Secondly, because I am so rarely downtown, that if I am downtown again, and I have my dogs with me, I will drive somewhere else that is dog friendly. Hopefully other dog friendly patios will offer a bowl of water to their customer's dogs, especially on a hot day! I don't recommend. read more

I've been hearing mixed reviews about this place so I wanted to give it a try. We got here at 8:30pm on the Halloween weekend for a table for a group of 7 people. They told us it would take about 30 minutes for a table and we can grab a drink at the bar to wait. We tried a few drinks; moscow mule, caesar and an old fashioned. The drinks were great and the service at the bar was very good. It took about an hour to get our table. We tried a variety of dishes which included: fries, caesar salad, escargot, chicken wings, salmon, beet salad, and onion tart. The food was underwhelming for us and very overpriced. I heard good things about the octopus but they were out of it. The salmon was $29 for a smaller portion than other restaurants and it was bland. My husbands onion tart was a little too sweet for his liking, I had a bite of the topping and it tasted like dessert. The appetizers were alright; nothing to rave about. The fries were alright. The escargot was just buttery; not a lot of flavour. I would recommend coming to this place for drinks and the bar snacks. The food is not worth the wait and the hype. The three stars is based on the drinks and not the food. read more

Decided to hit The Guild for Happy hour and the place is lacking in first impressions. Arrived to a "wait to be seated" sign only to not have someone there to help us. Waited a few minutes and walked into the restaurant. Finally caught the eye of the manager and began to seat ourselves. Not great for the experience they are trying to create. Happy hour bar bites are half price and the wine is excellent. If the greeting was more positive the score would be higher. Our waiter was amazing and ensured we were well taken care of and was able to share details of both the food and the wine. Will I come back? Probably, because the food warrants it. If they can "fix" the welcome issue this place has potential. If not, first impressions may take this place down a different path. read more

Great food! Absolutely loved coming here for lunch and I think I'll come again for dinner

Went here a couple of weeks ago with my hubby for our anniversary dinner. We didn't know what to expect, but folks, hold onto your wallets! We only ordered dessert because you cannot get value for your money here. Neat decor though, however, the service was lacking. For example, our server wouldn't engage with us and had an issue with eye contact... maybe he was shy. Hire more confident people. Was hoping for a more upscale - yet affordable, dining experience. read more

This is a horrible place. We ordered the tomahawk steak medium rare. It comes to the table it was removed from the bone and way smaller than described. The meat was so grisly and chewy we could barely cut it with the steak knife let alone chew it. We spoke with our server and she returned it to the kitchen. They told it is chewy served medium rare ? When why the hell would you serve it to us like that ? So they burned it and gave about half of it back to us ? Needless to say we didn't eat it or pay for it. What a terrible experience. Will definitely not return or recommend. We went to vintage to actually eat since we didn't eat here and it was amazing !!! Don't waste your time with this crap read more
