One of the best local restaurants in SE Calgary. Starbelly been staple for years and menu has changed but the restaurant remains super modern and staff are very friendly. Brunch is delicious here and dinner is great with family and friends or date night. Pricing is decent and align with other similar restaurants that would be downtown Calgary. Overall this place is a perfect for any occasion!!

Starbelly was recommended to a friend and I by a local friend who lives in the area. Upon arriving, we were seated promptly at the bar. I immediately noticed how beautiful the interior of the restaurant was - tall spacious ceilings, lots of windows with natural light pouring in, an open kitchen in the middle where bar seats were and a gorgeous plant set up at the entrance of the restaurant. Our server/bartender was really nice and we had no problems getting our order in. My friend ordered a Moscow Mule and felt a bit disappointed with the lack of flavour but nonetheless we were excited for the food and decided to give the Mule a pass. The chips and guac were very nice, the corn esquites was delicious and unique! I ordered the gnocchi and when I received it I had no idea they didn't add the bacon until the bartender came by, noticed and sent the food back - thanks for that! The gnocchi itself was soft and chewy and the protein complimented it well. However, I realized the mushrooms in it were raw at the middle.... I notified the bartender and he was very kind to take 15% off my bill. My friend ordered the curry and the bowl was piled high with veggies and prawns. The initial few tastes were okay but pretty quickly, we were able to point out the lack of spice, flavour and just "curryness" to it. Overall, Star Belly seems like a beautiful restaurant with great service that just didn't capture our hearts. I was hoping for the food to be on a higher caliber and was disappointed that most of the food wasn't enjoyable. Maybe next time. :(

My sister and hubby used to frequent Starbelly often when they had buck a shuck. That's no longer the case but my sister wanted to go for lunch while we were in town visiting. We dropped in on a Tuesday at noon and had our pick of tables on the makeshift patio. One nice perk is that they have sparkling water on tap. The menu consists of salads, small plates, burgers + sandwiches, pizza, pasta + bowls and mains. Beware, the waitress casually asked if we wanted Parmesan fries, Caesar salad or a house salad without explicitly stating or implying that any substitutes would cost extra. Not impressed when restaurants do that. - 3x Bacon wrapped dates ($3.00 each) - rich and a good appetizer to start our meal. - Beet salad ($17.00) - small portion and overpriced but the beets were tender and sweet. - Fried chicken sandwich ($18.00) - we opted for the house salad ($3.00 extra); a mix of romaine lettuce, arugula, walnuts, goat cheese and pickled red onion. Good but not worth the extra cost. We tried the the spicy sauce ($1.00) which was completely smothered in what was Valentina hot sauce. Don't get it. The chicken breast was soft and tender and I liked the addition of the sweet pickles. The sauce was too much and ended up drenching both the meat and bun. Should have went with the mushroom burger instead. - Steak sandwich ($22.00) - the house fries were crispy but a touch oversalted. We asked for our steak to be cooked medium rare; it came out cooked more than we wanted but overall, this was the better of the two sandwiches. Roasted mushrooms were excellent and the fried onions added a bit of crunchiness. - Spicy mussels + chorizo ($21.00) - my sister added the gluten free bread ($2.50 extra) instead of the toasted baguette. I had a sample of their mussels (good) and chorizo (a touch dry). Nothing particularly memorable about Starbelly's dishes. Pricey meal for standard fare. 2.5 stars.

Average size restaurant located south east Calgary near the Residence and Courtyard by Marriott hotels. We are not familiar with this area of Calgary but there are not a lot of choices for restaurants. We decided to try it out since we didn't want fast food for dinner. It is a trendy place with the kitchen in the middle and bar stools all around it. Smaller tables take up the rest of the restaurant except there is a private room with sliding doors and curtains. There is also a room with wine racks behind glass. There was a party going on in the private room and people were seen dancing but the music didn't seem too loud through the doors. What a great idea! Our server greeted us as soon as we sat down and brought us water, but the water was not cold and didn't have any ice. We asked for ice and some lemon which she brought right away. We found the menu prices were a bit high for the quantity of food. The menu offered a variety of shareables, casual choices and main entrees. We had the clam linguini which came with cherry tomatoes and a few croutons sprinkled on top, good taste and pasta was cooked perfectly but the portion was a bit small. The 7 oz. sirloin came with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables which happened to be asparagus, quite a bit of vegetables. The cioppino had mussels, clams, shrimp and salmon with two slices of bread, the spicy coconut lemongrass broth was very good and not too salty and just the right amount of spicyness. This dish could have been a bit larger. We received excellent service and our food came out fast. I noticed that a lot of people were ordering the burger and fries, the burger looked big and delicious. A nice place for a date and small groups unless you want to party in the private room. I wouldn't suggest this place for kids.

I ordered 5 items off skip the dishes from them it was on the pricier side. Mushroom gnocchi I really recommend because it was the best thing we ordered. Seafood linguine was $23 but was plain and tasteless needed salt and lacking a lot of seasoning for its price. Roasted cauliflower was all soggy by the time I got it and was $13 for like 1/5 of a cauliflower head so didn't enjoy that at all. Kale Caesar was terrible they didn't massage the kale or something because the kale was soo bitter and not softened. Beet salad was my second favourite out of the 5 but they didn't give enough dressing so only 1/3 of my beet salad was dressed very disappointed in that as I couldn't ask for extra dressing since it was skip the dishes and not dine in. So overall I wouldn't order from this place again as I only liked 1.5/5 items I ordered.

You must be interested in ordering alcoholic drinks (wines especially). Without them, the food is just not that amazing.

The service was great but the food was lacklustre. The chicken is juicy but the soy marinade is overpowering.

Overpriced for eggs, but the service and atmosphere is chill. I would make this brunch at home if possible. It's really expensive for brunch

We went during happy hour where we enjoyed a wine special and 25% off of appetizers. We got the tuna tartare, steak tacos, wings with hot sauce, and queso to share. The tuna was my favorite of the evening! It was light and fresh and the pickled pineapple added a wonderful touch. Out of everything the only item we wouldn't order again were the wings. There was nothing specially wrong with them, they were just very average. Our server Justice was a delight and very friendly! She even gave us some recommendations for things in the area during our visit. Was pleasantly surprised by Rendesvouz and would go back again (even if just for the tuna tartare)!

First, we arrive for our reservation and every table in the room is unclean and disgusting. They tried to seat us at a table with a table cloth covered in stains and crumbs. Two of the chairs had food smeared on them and the employee looked confused when I pointed it out and refused to sit on the dirty chair. So she took us to the next table with a dirty table cloth, but since there was no crumbs on it and the chairs didn't have food on them, it would be fine, right? The food was quite disappointing. Cold and dried out from just sitting there. You couldn't chew through the ginger beef, it was so stale. The sauce for the dried out fish was separated and the fat layer solidified. Soup wasn't hot. You had two options to choose from with the Tomahawk they were carving and serving - either jerky tough well done, or thin sliced fat cooked to medium. It was flavourless. I could literally go on and on. I tried pretty much everything from the spread. There was no cutlery on the tables and I had to hunt down an employee to bring some forks and knives while my family picked at their food. No water was offered or on the table. Took probably 15-20 minutes to get drinks from the time we sat down with our food. Children were running around using their own cutlery to serve themselves, licking them clean in between each station. The employees turned a blind eye even though they were watching this happen (specifically the gentlemen working the steak and ham station). The women's bathroom was filthy. Toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor, not to mention FOUR toilets filled with crap. Like gross massive dumps. I mentioned it to the hotel front desk and all they did was come into the bathroom, flush the toilets and leave. I have been to Rendesvouz numerous times and never experienced this pathetic level of quality and service. I'm beyond disgusted and angry. I can understand why they tacked on the mandatory gratuity for this event, because it surely wasn't earned and I would not have paid almost $400 for 2 mimosas, 3 soft drinks and 5 meals (3 adults and 2 kids) if I knew this was going to happen. We left hungry and completely dissatisfied. Thanks for ruining our Mother's Day.
