Pozole
Monique M.

Basing this review merely on the ready-made food they have. We ordered the pozole, caldo de res, and albondigas de res to eat. Also got the champurrado and the arrow con leche. For all the soups, it came with the toppings, ir. Onion cilantro lemon and/or tortillas. The pozole was rather good, had really good flavor. Meat was cooked nicely. The albondigas tasted good but the broth itself could have been better. The same goes for caldo de res. The champurrado we didnt care for. Had a weird taste. We ordered the larger size but ended up throwing it out. Arrow con leche tasted as expected. I would like to try some of their other foods, but will definitely go back when I begin to crave their pozole again

This has got to be one of the nicest Mexican markets I've ever gone too. They have everything and then some. homemade tortilla station. guacamole, Juices, drinks, tamales, bakery, fish, cheese, meat , flowers & even a sushi station!! clean and beautiful. I'll post pics. today I got a bean & cheese burrito. Nothing extraordinary. Thé cheese inside was good though. $5.99 and bout a cheese & poblano pepper tamale to try later. they have self-checkout too. Diego in the meat section is so nice too!

Orange Juice

If you're looking for a Mexican supermarket, this is your place in Modesto. I tried the fresh squeezed orange juice and it tasted really good and it was a good size. then I went to the food bar and I got a pork and cheese, pupusa and rice. It was really good. The rice was just how I like it and the pupusa had good pork and gooey cheese.

So exciting to have a Vallarta in east Modesto. They have a vast and incredible assortment of Latin American food and other goods. Great service, festive vibe and very busy. You will also find hard to get items so my find today was mamonzillos. It is a Colombian fruit which looks like a cluster of little limes, you burst open the green hard skin to find a soft, tangy and sweet slimy flesh that surrounds a pit the size of a marble. There is not a lot of flesh in this fruit but you save the seeds and roast them and add a little salt and they are nutty and delicious. I also found Postobon Apple soda which was one of my favorite sodas as a kid. This place is a vibe and very cool. Great service and awesome anchor to this shopping area.

Jenny will be here @11:00 yay

I was given my receipt and told by staff that I could get 15% off my order at the restaurant next door if I presented it to them. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and the staff warmed it up for me. The croissant was flaky and I liked the everything but the bagel seasoning on top. I also purchased their chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate muffin. The cookie was thick and chewy on the inside. The semi sweet chocolate chucks topped with sea salt was a delightful combination which uplifted my energy levels during that dreaded afternoon crash. My coworker ate the chocolate muffin and she said it made her day! Mind you, she doesn't even like chocolate! After placing my order I took a walk around. The layout of the bakery let's the customers see the bakers crafting the delicious pastries. The calming music, the pops of green plants, mixed with the eclectic collection of vintage decor made me sparkle with inspiration. This feels like a place you can come with friends to catch up. Can't wait to get their coffee the next time I visit.

There were limited quantities of each so I'm not sure if they have more things on the weekends, which would totally make sense for a local small business on a random Tuesday. Parking is easy once you find it and although the inside is very small there are a few chairs and cafe tables perfect for a duo. Nonetheless, we left with a good haul and got one of almost everything: Red velvet slice, Carrot cake slice, Chocolate Mousse slice, Chocolate brownie, and Lemon bar. They also had a sheet cake, a small pack of cupcakes and cake pops in a separate case, so I wasn't sure if those were preorders or display or available for purchase. Here's what I loved: THE BROWNIE. One of the best I've ever had! The lemon bar was also delicious, super tart and perfectly baked. I'd get either of those again! Customer service was very friendly, prices were clearly displayed and fair, and the portions were good sizes. Here's what I just liked: The cake part of the red velvet, mousse, and carrot cake was a bit dry. They were beautifully decorated, the frosting and fillings were great, but the cake itself just wasn't as soft and moist as I was hoping. Another Yelper mentioned sticking the cake in the microwave and I wish I would have tried that. Definitely a small business worth supporting!

Upon entering, I was struck by three things, how friendly the worker was, how hard the door was to open (I do have mobility issues on occasion), and how little there was on display to choose from. Still, I found a couple of nice items (red velvet and some serious chocolate cake) my wife loved the chocolate but we found the red velvet to be quite dry and hard. I suspect that it had been in the case far too long. Fortunately the chocolate was so good, my wife said that it more than made up for it. Overall, the ambiance was simple bakery, nice folks, serving well. I suspect where these nice folks shine is in pre-orders (which makes TOTAL sense, as foot traffic, particularly in this bakery's location would be a tough sell indeed). I suspect that we will be keeping Dessert European Cakes and Pastries in mind for our upcoming bakery needs.

However, if your not local and purchase from the vendors in the bay area, then your prone to the time it sat at the bakery, travel time to bay area and how long it's been sitting on the shelve before you bought it. Did that! the product went bad the next day! We happen to be in town and stopped by. This was our opportunity to visit for awhile because we moved from Modesto to the bay area and we always bought here when we were local. We requested pandesal on the rack. I wouldn't think that be a problem if a customer requested that versus that already packaged, mind you that it's not every customers expectation, so do it. I'm a Manager in Customer Service so this was the test because the last visit a while back was off and about the same with the same exact aura on the front-end and I just thought maybe it was that one day. There was asian woman and white woman at the front counter. The white woman approached and we requested. Then for some reason the asian woman responded with this attitude that it was fresh and brought out. I could tell she got irritated because she disappeared to the back and never seen. The white woman rung us up, but then you can tell she was brushed off with the same attitude of the asian woman and she rung us up so quickly to get us out. This was similar to our last visit from a year ago and I still remember that visit! Ambiance is great on the first minute before you enter with the aroma, but once you make contact at the front counter and make requests. Good luck! The 3 stars here is strictly the hopia and pandesal we bought that were amazing. The customer service was deteriorated by 2 stars. Just want to make that clear!

I was first taken back by the variety of donuts they have. So many flavors I've never seen or thought of. I couldn't decide on what to get so I ended up buying a dozen and a half donuts. Mind you, I was 39 weeks pregnant at the time and baby needed these donuts before making his arrival. The fact that they are open 24/7 was incredible to me. Since moving out here to the valley, I have yet found a donut shop I liked and that was good. But I now did and I will definitely make the drive anytime of day for these donuts! I ordered a custom heart shaped cake and was very clear about what I wanted: whipped cream frosting…read moreon the outside and chocolate ganache filling with caramel and pecans on the inside. I even told them I don't like buttercream because it's too sweet and that I didn't want it anywhere on this cake. When I placed the order, they asked if they could add a little buttercream to the outside for texture. I said okay, but only a tiny bit mixed with the whipped cream. What showed up was all buttercream on the outside with zero whipped cream. When I asked about it, they told me it was whipped cream. I know what I'm tasting, and so did my guests. It was definitely buttercream. The inside was even worse. There was some ganache but barely any. The further we cut into the cake, the more buttercream we found. I did not want buttercream inside the cake at all. I barely agreed to a little on the outside and they didn't even respect that. The photos show it clearly. The further we cut, the messier and more uneven it got with just buttercream and buttercream. One slice had a thin layer of ganache with barely any pecans or caramel. Everything else was buttercream. I picked this bakery because I had a good experience with them the first time. The design looked nice, but the cake itself was really disappointing. Way too sweet from all that buttercream I specifically said I didn't want. I gave them detailed feedback with photos. Instead of owning up to it, the decorator got defensive. He said he used buttercream as glue to hold the cake together. But that doesn't make sense. If ganache worked fine as glue on my first order with them (which had no buttercream inside at all), why couldn't he do the same thing this time? He just chose to use a lot of buttercream instead of actually following what I asked for. I even sent more photos pointing out exactly where the problem was. But they still insisted it was whipped cream. My guests noticed it too. So are they lying? Management offered me a 10% discount on my next order. That doesn't help. I paid for a cake that didn't meet what I asked for and it ruined my event. I asked for a 50% refund which seemed fair. They read the message but never answered. Just complete silence. If a bakery is going to charge premium prices for custom cakes, you need to actually follow what the customer asks for. I was crystal clear about what I wanted. That's literally the whole point of a custom order. They like to ignore customers when there's an issue. I was ignored at first, then only responded after I pointed out how unprofessional they were handling things. That's when they offered the 10% discount. But the moment I asked for a fair 50% refund, they ghosted me completely. No response, nothing. That says everything you need to know about how they treat customers who have legitimate concerns.
