My 18-year-old sister and her boyfriend came in to buy a birthday cake, a tres leches, paid for it, receipt IN HAND, and left. Your security guard then followed them to their car and began taking photos of them and their vehicle without ever approaching them inside the store or asking to see a receipt like a normal person would. Let's be clear: she paid for it. There is a receipt. What I have a much bigger problem with is a grown adult man following my barely-18-year-old sister out of the store and into the parking lot to photograph her without identifying himself or stating any concern to her face. That is not loss prevention. That is just a grown man following a young girl to her car. If there was a genuine concern, the time to address it was at the door. Not creeping up on two teenagers once they were already outside. And to top it all off? The cake was frozen solid and basically inedible & no, not because it was a supposed to be a frozen product, but because it appeared to be old and improperly stored. So we got harassed over a cake that wasn't even fit to eat. This was supposed to be a simple birthday errand. Do better. read more

Not sure which is the better deal? Cost Less Foods or Food 4 Less?! Guess it all depends on what you're looking for? Their special sales or discounts are pretty similar (if not exactly the same) for many items such as fruits, veggies, sodas, milk, eggs, can food, spices, etc. For instance, sometimes I like to buy 2 liters of Mountain Dew or Pepsi and can sometimes pretty much get the same deal (0.74 cents per 2 liter) at either Cost Less Foods or Food 4 Less! However, when comes to the meat department, I often find that Food 4 Less has better meat quality, particularly the beef. Although sometimes a little cheaper than Food 4 Less, the meat (beef) packages at Cost Less usually do not look that appealing to buy (saw a lot of fat, don't look fresh, or something just looks off to me about most of their beef packages...). Nonetheless, whether COST LESS Foods or Food 4 LESS, one can definitely expect to PAY LESS at both stores :-) !!! read more

*** This customer experience was had during the COVID-19 Pandemic *** This is one of two of my favorite Cost Less Foods Grocery stores. The Modesto, California location is also clean, spacious, well-stocked, affordable, and helpful. The location that is is the most uncomfortable due to not only how tiny it is, but how unclean and cramped it is the Turlock, CA local. This Ceres, California location is super clean! Super organized! Super well-stocked and spacious! Plus to alert the shoppers to "open and available" checkout lines, they have awesome old-school lighted check-stand markers that are a few feet above the check stand so they really get your attention. No self-checkout. Maybe in the future, they will offer this. They DO offer: Bill Pay, Money Orders, Check Cashing, Fax/Copies, and per their sign "more...". Turn the music down, please. This is not a disco. It's difficult to think and make sure you're not forgetting anything even with a list when the music blares at loud volumes and non-stop. It's darn near impossible to shop anywhere anymore without being subjected to loud noise emanating from their speaker system. Lastly, since it appears they are no longer mailing their weekly newspaper ad, you can go online and view their weekly ad there. I've been a shopper for 30 years here. I even worked for Del in 2007-8. The other day I went in to go to the bathroom. Full disclosure, I'm currently living out of my car. Fully employed and taking care of my elderly mother. I went in and went to the bathroom. After I walk out, Del stops me and says, "do you know how long you were in the bathroom for?" To which I replied, "uh ... Idk ... 7, maybe 8 minutes". He cut me off, "11 minutes". Mind you this is all standing right in the middle of the express lane with everyone watching. Then del says something that came out of thin air, "...your minds not right, you're not thinking clearly because your on dope". Nevermind the fact that I've never done a hard drug like heroin or meth in my life, don't drink, and work for a legal cannabis dispensary, he proceeded to repeat this claim seven times so loudly that the customers were watching from all the other aisles. After I asked him where this was coming from he proceeded to tell me that his nephew just died over fentanyl. After this, I protested and explained that I was frustrated and intimidated by his words. He then proceeds to pull $20 out of his wallet and hand it to me. I took it, and only because 1) I was hungry, 2) I didn't do anything wrong to deserve that slanderous behavior and 3) because he was trying to keep me quiet after I mentioned now I'll be going to the chamber of commerce and consulting with my attorney. This man is now in serious legal jeopardy due to his lies about me in public, I do not recommend shopping here, and if you have to, watch out for Del Ambris, the GM, he is hostile and he is very, very rude. This is, again, a man I've known for over 30 years, my parents know him. And I worked for him. This isn't a hit piece, it's the truth. Watch out for Del Ambris, a criminal in public. read more

This grocery store is out past Modesto and you can find it on the way to Lake McClure from the Bay Area. It's really strange and doesn't feel like a gentrified San Francisco grocery store. I did find basic grocery store items to bring on my weekend lake trip that include bananas, coconut juice, twinkies, and pineapple cans. HAHA. Just a pit stop. read more

My husband, me and my toddler come to this store as a family. They have great deals. However, we just went today and had two men follow us around the whole store. My husband noticed that they would make small conversation and would pretend to grab an item and end up putting it back. By the time we went to the checkout line, they walked passed us with only one item. Needless to say, I would not come to this store alone with my daughter. Mothers should be able to shop without worrying about men following us while we have our kids. read more

The groceries price is the only reason I come here it's cheap and fresh I just wish the customer service was better a couple of times Ive encountered security guards that dress in normal clothes follow behind me, one had ask me to zip up my bag or else... I ask if that's a threat mind you I have my son with me and if needed his bottle I'm not going to zip up his diaper bag. Apparently everyone seems like thieves. I like it. I use to always shop at Food 4 Less b4 but i have been going to Costless for the past couple of months. The store is not the most organized or the cleanest but the prices are defiently lower. I think on an average i spend $40-$50 less here and getting the same exact stuff. They have a big variety of stuff, alot of mexican stuff, and oriental foods, wide selection of meats and fruits and vegetables, alot in their frozen isle section. The one thing i love about this place is that they also bag your groceries which makes it very convenient. I really recommend this place, and will continue going here. read more

The CostLess Market at 3801 Yosemite Blvd, Modesto, Ca will not accept coupons. I gave them 2 coupons received from the manufacturer of Califia Citrus Juices that had holographic strips. The checker said she would not accept them, they dont accept printed coupons. She did call the store manager who said the same thing. I would have given no stars but you have to push one in order to get to the comments. I've never been so humiliated in my life. Cost less on Hatch Rd in Ceres has a new policy The handicap carts cannot go out the door. I tried to tell the cashier (she was very young) that I had to take the cart outside because I only have one leg and she said well the carts are not aloud to go out the door. After 4 times telling her that, she told someone to get the manager. I finally just told her I am taking the cart outside. When the manager came over I showed him my nub and I said I cannot walk I have to take the cart outside. He said to me, the cart cannot go outside. I then said I'm taking the cart out the door. Then he called a stock boy over and both of them escorted us to the car. I told him I've never been treated like this in all the years I've been shopping here but you can be sure I will never come back again. I felt like a criminal. While I was getting up in the car (suv) I was holding the back of the seat to steady myself and they pulled it right out from under me. I could have fallen. Very poor customer service!! read more

I have found out that the quality is just declining little by little. I can't recall how many times I have to throw away their avocados and bread. The tv dinner's are just lasagna or noodles and cheese. They just don't have a variety of dinner's like they do in safeway in Turlock and to top it off, today march 20, 2018 just bought a minute maid orange juice that the carton shows an exp date of march 13 2018. I called to let them know and it took me 3 calls to accomplish just that. 1st call 6min and cut off. 2nd call 10 min.nobody answer it 3rd. Call..had to rise my voice and this time in Spanish and finally got some results. They said to bring it back, just a waisted of time and frustration. read more

The prices are ok, and the store is clean. Usually the employees are nice and tend to do what they have to. My only issues are that some fresh foods should be checked more since some have rot spots and for employees to at least have the courtesy to say hello instead of gossip. I don't care if they do, they do their work and all, and it's not a big deal if they just say hi, they have a long day and sometimes it sucks but at least say hello instead if completely ignoring a customer until they leave. It's a good place just remember that good customer service is great. read more

My mom shops here all the time, for prices and convinience, the staff there is very nice. But I have one major issue, the ladies working behind the counter in the bakery, tortillas, or deli were not wearing hairnets, it wouldn't be a problem, but we bought a rotisserie vhicken, and it had two long hairs, I went back to return it, and that's when I noticed, nobody was wearing a hairnet! And their hair was flying all over the place. Do they not know that major illnesses are carried by the hair!? Needless to say I refuse to buy anything from behind the counter, eww. If your looking for cheap groceries in Ceres, this is the spot. Dirt cheap meat, though I doubt they sell higher than USDA standard grade (below select) beef. Still it taste good and fills the belly. The butchers while on duty will cut any cut of meat to your liking, but beware of the lazy butcher, anywhere. This store caters a lot to hispanics so they have a huge selection of hispanic foods. They also have the largest selection of instant coffee that I've seen in a long while. Not the best place for produce, but it's cheap. I recomend buying only what you are planning to use in the next few days. Again they are cheap, the cheapest in Ceres. read more

I recently moved here and I love Sprouts, after the initial getting used to the surroundings the store is always very clean and the staff is friendly. It's not my cup of tea I make the drive 12 miles to Sprouts only because I eat organic. Recently I've had to shop here the veggie selection is good okay but you have to hunt through the massive amounts to find something not over ripe. The cost is very affordable. read more

I visited this costless 3 days ago and I had great customer service from none other than Avery Jackson. I went to costless in search for mangos (the 2 for 1$ deal is hard to beat!) I made my way to the produce aisle and I heard commotion coming from the front of the store. There were three hulligans that stole a bottle of ciroc. One of the men knocked out a security guard and they ran out of the store. As I thought justice was lost I noticed Avery Jackson running full speed to these criminals. He tackles one of the men like an NFL linebacker. The man broke his collar bone. He knocked out another with one of the best 1,2 combos I've ever seen. Here they were. It was 1 on 1. The criminal had a handful on ciroc and Avery had a handful of pride. Avery said "give me the bottle or it will get ugly" the man laughed. Before I could even grasp what was going on Avery gave the man a roundhouse kick to the jaw. As the man was falling over to taste the dirt, Avery saved the bottle before it broke into a million pieces. Tens of twenties cheered on Avery and he said " don't thank me, I'm just doing my job." Then he returned the bottle and went back to work. Avery if you are reading this, I just want to say thank you, the world needs more people like Avery Jackson. read more

Always soooo many people, crappy location and their chicken was almost a green shade. Never. I repeat NEVER buy chicken here. But, it's a short drive from home so if I absolutely have to stop here I go for the box items. The one fresh item I do love here though is the bread. Most things are affordable, but in my opinion you're better off making the trip to Costco or Winco. read more

I always shopped at Richland Market on Yosemite Blvd. Then Cost Less bought them out and I was amazed at the prices. They were alot less than Richland. And now I have moved to Ceres and the same goes for this Cost Less. I know the owners from when my husband worked in the grocery stores cutting meat. And they take their customers comments to heart and help out in any way possible. Keep up the good work Cost Less. And I won't go to Food 4Less because they won't bag my groceries and Cost Less does. read more

This is one of the only stores to carry my nestly malt mix, I keep going back for bad service, unclean environment. This is the last time no matter how much I love my chocolate Malts! The 15 items or less check out has no meaning here! I stood in 4 different lines, because one person left for break and another logged in and the cycle continued. There was no manager, no leader among the Chaos directing staff on what to do. Checker after checker continued to hold up the checkout lines calling for baggers on the overhead. I stood there with my 1 item waiting for baggers to come bag the groceries. Hell I almost started to bag the groceries for them. There was no a-ha moments that they could bag their customers groceries for them. I'm no better than the next person, but I have been here 4 times and each time it has gotten worse. but if your trying to waste your time in one of the most unclean supermarkets then this place is for you. read more
