But...the service is really not up to par...a friend and i were in a week or so ago...and the bartender gave me a short pour and i quietly asked her to please top it off properly at which point she said - sorry, we're too busy/too many people behind you - really? Wandered into Valholl to grab a pilsner and play a spot of cribbage on a recent day trip to Poulsbo. The place has a cool vibe that was colored by a family with really young kids that were loud as fuck and running around the playground (tap room). Really don't understand the kids-in-brewery thing, but then again I absolutely do not understand parents who treat public places where people gather to relax (presumably to get away from their kids) like day care facilities. My friends took me to Valholl Brewing recently while visiting Poulsbo Washington and the beer is really good and hit the spot after traveling from Seattle. Valholl is a nice little brewery with a great vibe and has a strong local following. The place is really organized and you can tell they take brewing beer seriously. The brewery was packaged at 2:30 in the afternoon on a Friday. The staff are super friendly and make great recommendations. I really enjoyed the Norseman Hazy IPA, one of the best tasting Hazy IPAs I tried while visiting Washington. Just a great place close to the water that you can just chill and enjoy a beer while getting to know the folks from the local area. A number of parking spots in the front of the brewery and plenty of street parking parking as well. They have a nice fire pit outside if your chilly and lots of additional seating options in a covered area just outside the brewerly. They don't have food but they also have no problem if your bring your own food in with you. I will definitely be back and hopefully can spend more time and explore other beer options. read more

I came here looking for a great place to rest my feet and enjoy a cider - or two. I ordered a raspberry cider. It was much more like beer than like cider. The place was jumping as it was a stop on the day's pub run but by the time I got there the place was just full of a normal crowd. The ladies running the show were nice and seemed to know a lot of the people there. I sat on the patio and enjoyed the heaters and picnic table. They are dog friendly and there were several people there with their pets. This is a solid choice to rest and use the restroom while getting a decent beer or cider. Be prepared to hike a very steep hill to get there but the view is well worth it. Cheers! read more

Interesting experience. It was a Saturday in July, decided to have get burgers at Juicy J's and take them to Valholl to have a beer and listen to a band. No outdoor seating as most had been taken by the band's family members so we sat inside. Ordered our beers. This was a first time for my friends and I had not been there in several years. The beertender was very patient as I sampled several beers until I found the right one. We had our beer, food, friends and live music, the band was great. Inside seating is limited. The band's family members had young children under age 6, because it was warm they brought 5 of them indoors seated them at a table and gave them a game to play and went back outside leaving the kids unattended. They were typical kids playing a game having fun and loud. Unfortunately, we had a hard time hearing ourselves talk. My friend got up and asked them to be quiet. The beer tender went outside and told the parents who came in to check the kids and asked them to use quiet voices. Soon they got loud again and my friend asked them to quiet down again. Eventually a family member came in a brought them all outside. What disappointed me was when I got up to pay and I stood in line one of the mothers was ahead of me and I found that she and the beer tender were talking about my friends intolerance of the kids. Right there this establishment lost me as a customer. The only kids in the place were those associated with the band. I had no problem with them being there however they were left unattended while the parents listened to the band. I too came to listen to the music except I had to listen to kids and the establishments employee had the nerve to talk about us! Cute place, great ambiance, nice selection of beer but in the end the customer service was disappointing. read more

My wife and I stopped into Valholl Brewing while playing in Poulsbo. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Valholl is dog and family friendly. Outdoor food is allowed since Valholl doesn't offer a kitchen. Indoors is small, stuffy and hot. Outdoors is nice sized with large picnic style benches. Indoors wouldn't support large groups but outdoors would. Valholl has cool paraphernalia for sell if you're lucky enough to get your size. My wife had to settle for a t-shirt for $22 since the other items were out of stock. Irritating. Orders are placed at the counter. Our server was ok. My wife had a Valkyrie Red and I had a Norseman IPA for $5.50 each. My wife loved her beer choice while I could barely tolerate mine. We shared a small tube of Pringles for $1. I did purchase a bottle of Brewbitch IPA for $5 to take home. I'm hoping this IPA is better than the Norseman IPA. Overall, Valholl is a brewery that has a ton of potential. read more

Golden Warrior great lighter beer for those who like craft beers but don't care for overwhelming hoppiness. Was visiting Bainbridge for a couple of days and the person I was staying with would send me on excursions in the biggest town close to the island called Silverdale. There are many towns in between like Bremerton or what I call Bummertown which for me is always a bust. But Poulsbo which is hard to pronounce is music to my ears. It's a little Scandinavian town with many cool shops and little breweries. I think my official calling when I'm in the state of Washington is being the growler guy. I always stash a bunch of those or the smaller counterparts called Squealers in the back of my rental car, And when I get to a place like Valholl meaning "hall of the slain", I'm ready to make my mad dash in to or course sample and then have a pint while they fill my little vessels. I've actually been here with friends also many times and it's a fun little place to hang out. It's got a few tables and a small bar and some small outdoor seating but that's it. No food but you can bring anything you want. The beers tend to be on the high alcohol side and pretty hoppy but when you are in Washington that is the norm. My favorites are the IPA and the Red. I always get their IPA to go in growler, but they have some other lighter styles like a blond which I also get for others who are not beer geeks like me. Prices also are reasonable at $12 for 64 oz fill. All in all if you like beer and in the area head over here you will not be disappointed. read more

This was our favorite brewery when we lived in WA. Every single beer was delicious and full of flavor. The staff was also very nice. Love the atmosphere and they also frequently have events. Axe throwing is new there since I've moved. There's plenty of local restaurants you can take food to go and bring into the brewery. They are dog friendly which is great. I was in town so I stopped in and got the chocolate milk stout. Amazing! Best stout I've had in WA. Definitely a must for craft beer lovers. read more

This is a family owned business. Walking in you find a clean small tasting room paneled in the Viking tradition. It has Wormwood tables, a wood cut bar and other smaller places to sit comfortably, placed in the small area. Jeff and Katie were both very helpful and happy to assist in organize the tasting list. All ratings are only my opinion and specific to the particular visit. Ratings are on a scale: 0 - 5 Stars. Golden Strong: ABV 8.2%, IBU 22 The Golden Strong has a soft light sweet aroma. The first taste is Crisp, light bodied with a lightly sweet flavor. It is a touch flowery. Slightly short finish with clove extensions. ***1/2 Stars Valkyrie Red: ABV 6.8%, IBU 56 Nice warming aroma. It is slightly oaky from the Suraci hops. The taste is somewhat hoppy with a yeasty flatness. The second sip brings out the positive flavors. It has a medium finish, easy crisp drink with just enough bitterness. Jeff said that he brewed this red to his taste which I appreciate. It is not the normal sweet red. ****1/2 Stars Poulsbo Porter: ABV 5%, IBU 37 Carmel coffee very soft aroma. This is a full-bodied thick and earthy beer with the flavor of caramel coffee not overpowering the malt and porter taste. There is a medium short finish with the roast standing out. ***1/2 Stars Espresso Stout Nitro: ABV 8%, IBU 52 The espresso comes up quickly in the aroma. Very good medium body and has a decent head. It has an interesting balance of espresso and hoppyness. The nitro flattens the tastes and gives it a creamy finish. This brew is Jeff's newest. I am not usually a fan of nitros however, this one is done right. It works for me. ****1/2 Stars read more

I have enjoyed this brewery for the last few years and I stop in every time I'm in Poulsbo. The beer is always delicious and I've become partial to the Brew Bitch IPA and Orange wheat. Staff is friendly and always knowledgeable. Current setup being outdoors (due to pandemic), they have a tent with 10 tables in case it rains, an uncovered fire pit to stay warm during the winter months. Great views of Liberty Bay, amply parking in front and along the street and always a great mix of interesting clientele to listen to. Definitely stop in for drinks while you are strolling around Poulsbo's tourist area. And they finally have logo pint glasses for sale (along with other stuff). read more

This bar is one of my top favs. The atmosphere is so relaxed and their drinks are amazing! My go to drink is their We Be Yammin' and it's soooo good. The workers & owners are super friendly too, not too many places do the owners hang out with the customers at their bar & I love that! I've been to a few of their live bands and they always pick great choices too, so much fun! It's a strong 4 stars just because theirs not much indoor seating. That's perfect for the summer time here in WA, but in the winter it can be a bit much. They do have an outdoor fire pit, but only one (unless they added another since last I been). This is going to be short and sweet. This is an absolutely beautiful and perfect brewery. I had no idea what to expect from a place like this. The brewery has a beautiful atmosphere and aesthetic. Then we got to the beer. My wife and I split a flight and I think we could have easily split two different flights so we could try all of their beers. Here is what we had: 1. Double IPA 2. Black British ale 3. Frank... en something Barrel aged something 4. Red ale Across the board the beers were extremely well flavored. I dont know what kind of hops and malts they use but they are rich in flavor. The IPA was deep in flavor and beautiful color. The red was one of the best red ales I have ever had. The barrel aged beer was a 13% beer and was mind blowing. And the Black ale was something I dont think I have ever had. I wish this place was in Tacoma because I would be there every other weekend. The beer is solid and the place looks cool. I would suggest it every time!! read more

This review is for the new location on 3rd Avenue, behind the main Poulsbo tourist drag. The building here is so, so cool. It's a classic mid-century modern structure with interesting post and beam construction. Some of the beams are purely decorative, but the structural elements across the ceiling are really cool. There's a big heavy new door made to look like a rough-hewn piece appropriate for a Viking longhouse with big heavy iron hinges, and inside there's a bunch of reclaimed second-use clear cedar nailed to the walls for paneling. It's gorgeous inside, in a very mixed contemporary way. So cool. There's a tasting room, a bar, a couple of heads, and then down a hall is the production brewery. You can clearly see, hear, and smell the brewing and cleaning as it happens. The staff and regulars here are very laid back and friendly. The place filled up in no time when we were here, and everyone seemed to know each other. Felt like a house party. Unfortunately, every beer we tried had significant flaws, but as they gain experience, most likely they'll eliminate most if not all of these. Still, despite the quality of the beer, I can't help but recommend this place. You have to stop in for at least one beer if you're on the strip in Poulsbo, and if you're making the big Poulsbo beer run (Slippery Pig, Sound, Valholl), then it's a given that ya gotta get in here. As people call the breweries in Poulsbo the "Trinity" because of the three breweries in town, Valholl Brewing was our last stop. Steve said he did not want to drink anymore but since we journeyed from Tacoma to specifically hit this area I was willing to have one more beer. I got a very bitter IPA and while it was ok the bitterness overshadowed any other spices and flavor that may have been there. I realize full well that being in the Pacific Northwest that I am in IPA country and I really do like IPA's; I was just not too terribly impressed with this one. read more

Enjoyed a Brew Bitch IPA and a Bush & Barrel Passion Fruit Cider with my boyfriend this afternoon. We also sampled a peach cider and took home a growler of Mother In Law Double IPA. It's a small place in downtown Poulsbo with a decent amount of parking. My boyfriend said it smelled like dogs but that probably because there were a few dogs in there . I'm ok with that though because I like places that are dog friendly, even though I don't feel comfortable taking my dogs out to places like that because they're brats so that's a plus to me!! I will defiantly be back, will continue to buy their beer when I see it out (at Costco, restaurants etc) and even though my ciders we're ok & I hope they will have different ciders next timeI will defiantly visit again.
