Valerio's is a Filipino Bakery that I've been having since I was a kid. I used to go to their location in West Covina/Walnut when I was living in the SGV and we'd come for their classic "hot pandesal". Pandesal is a simple white bread roll, but having fresh baked bread that's still warm is unbeatable. If you want to eat it like a Filipino, then you can eat it with processed cheese, with corned beef hash (seasoned with tons of garlic and onions), or with butter. For the longest time, Valerio's has been cash only; however, I'm glad to see that they're now taking card, Apple Pay, and G pay. Note that there is no seating inside. While they're known for their breads, I couldn't avoid buying a turon (caramelized banana in an egg roll wrapper), chicken empanada, and veggie egg roll. I bought all of this (6 pieces of bread, two turon, chicken empanada, and an egg roll) for a little more than $10. My wife loves the cheese rolls from here (and she prefers it here to Portos); however, I think it's her nostalgic childhood favorite dessert. The take home point is that the value can't be beat for their breads and sweets. Definitely come for the pandesal; however, turon is a magical egg roll that's one of my favorite desserts on earth. Being from Tucson, we don't have any Filipino bakeries, so my Filipino friends asked me to stop by while I was in Cerritos and pick up some Pan de Ube. This place did not disappoint! They had an amazing selection of breads and pastries--many of which I had never even heard of, but they all looked incredibly delicious. The pastries, breads, and desserts I tried were outstanding. The employees were super friendly, introduced themselves, and even asked us to follow them on Instagram. Overall, a fantastic spot and a great experience. read more

Their chicken empanadas are hands-down one of the best we ever had -- golden crust, savory filling, and always fresh. This is a small to go establishment. No seating. I think the pastries are affordable. There wasn't much pricing everywhere so I bought w/out truly knowing. I got the turón which was good. I got pancit malabon which was probably the expensive item but it's super packed so basically two meals in one. Garlicky, crunchy w/ cabbage and onion. Lots of stuff inside. I liked it. I tried the Nutella and cream cheese but the bread was too dry for me and very little filling. I like generous amounts of filling to bread like 1:1 ratio. This was a thin layer baked inside that I could just get a hint of Nutella, but there was a glob of cream cheese I guess got pushed during baking onto one end which was enjoyable. Also tried the ensaymada macapuno. Good flavor but again, on the dry side. The lady was friendly inside. Lots of options in here but mostly in bulk so more than 1 item sold together. I love this place! There is something inherently cozy and homey about Valerio's. It has all the traditional Filipino baked goods & desserts - pan de sal, taho, carioca, biko, kalamay, etc. I've tried a majority of their baked goods and everything has been pretty good! I love coming here in the mornings to grab fresh baked pan de sal. I've been here a number of times and have tried their carioca, pancit malabon, turon and their cheese rolls. All are very tasty! This is the third Valerio's bakery that I have been to. I kind of want to visit them all and compare notes. The recipes kind of prove true to be similarly yummy. I noticed that different from the Carson location that here in the Cerritos one as soon as you enter, there are two refrigerated cases to your left where the first one holds all the pan de sal stuffed with pork or chicken. I guess at the Carson location the clientele there tends to grab that stuff up faster so since it sells out so fast they don't need to refrigerate it. (I've seen it with my own eyes! And numerous times I miss out on the pan de sal corned beef sandwiches because there are always no more by the time we get there.) In this Cerritos location, there's also a table of goodies also under glass, including the delicious ensaymada cheese butter sugar brioche bread which we got one of. I was here yesterday morning like 8:15am. I bought some pastries and their bibingka. When I got home and ate it, it was already dry inside. The bibingka cost 4.25 each. They don't offer wedding cakes, cake pops, macarons etc., but what they do offer is fresh breads (like the ubiquitous pan de sal), assorted kakanin (rice desserts such as kalamay & biko) & some savory dishes hot or in the refrigerator. People rave about their chicken empanadas, Pinoy-style w/ raisins. Myself, I love their hopia (monggo, ube & red bean are what I buy). They have all sorts of pastries and delicacies, everything looks good. But my disappointment was that when I bought their nilupak.. It didn't even taste like one. It's missing a lot of ingredients, I can tell that it was made only with the cassava , milk and too much sugar. That's all I can taste. With the price and the taste, not worth buying.please correct the quality of your product, don't label your food as such , if doesn't even taste close to one.As of your baked goods, please if it's over 1 day or week old ( depends), don't sell it, you can tell by their texture .That's all. read more

Short & Sweet... It's a place where Filipinos go to get their bread & pastry fix. I use to come to this place all the time back when I was in middle school (2 scoops of ube ice cream, PLEASE!). I went this morning with friends and was very disgusted. I've gone in the past and fabulous food, it's amazing. But today the lady at the register who picks and packs the food orders was running her fingers through her hair and scalp. I saw her go to the sink thinking she was going to wash her hands but she proceeds to wet her hands and splash water around on her face and then to run her wet hands through her hair again. She did not wash her hands and didn't use any soap and then went back to the register asking us what we'd like from the display case. If we asked for anything she would have just grabbed the food with her hands and there were no gloves around either. Very unsanitary and unsafe for an establishment handing food. It's a shame because the food IS good but I was couldn't bring myself to buy anything after seeing that. read more

I haven't tried the cha su bao but they have ensaymada in different flavors. The rest of their baked goods are rich in butter or cream cheese. Their empanadas are okay and the pan de sal is small. They have the best turon because its filled with jackfruit instead of only banana. Thin otap is good with black coffee. read more

The Valerio's here in Cerritos is pretty much the same up in Union City: delicious aromas and cheap prices. By 11:30am the cheese rolls were almost out (I got the last four), but they always have hot and fresh pan de sal ready to go. For $12 I got 4 cheese rolls, 4 ensaymada, 4 sugar coated donut things (I forget the name), a dozen pan de sal, a bag of six pan de ube, and a stick of 4 carioca. That's a lot of food for just 12 bucks! And all delicious. I prefer Valerio's over Goldilocks; they're cheaper and I think they taste better read more

I love this bakery. It reminds me the bakeries back in Manila. Not the fancy corporate owned ones, but the small mom and pop ones local to your area. They have all kinds of bread - several variations of the pandesal (regular, cheese, wheat). They are several kinds of ensaymada (brioche). They have sapin sapin (a classic 3 layered rice cake with each layer being a different color). In the morning, they have taho. Taho is a warm soy bowl of awesomeness. It's served with syrup and tapioca balls. Great for breakfast or snack. They also have banana cue (saba bananas fried in caramel and served on a stick). Karioca (mochi balls fried in caramel) and turon (saba banana with jackfruit wrapped in eggroll wrapper and fried in caramel). This place does not take debit or credit cards - it's CASH only. The prices are cheap, the food is good and for all Filipinos, it brings a little bit of nostalgia in our lives. read more

I was here on a Friday 1PM and Saturday 9AM. My 5 friends and I were curious about the bakery on Friday so we went inside and the kind lady gave us 2 big pieces of pandesal to sample. They were freshly baked, hot and steaming! I came back on Saturday to see if they had taho in the morning, but they didn't because they are waiting for ingredients to arrive, and the lady said that maybe in the next week or so they should start making it again. I got the palabok, a cassava dessert wrapped in a banana leaf $1.75 (I think it's called suman), and a coconut dessert I believe is called ginataan bilo bilo. It came out to just under $14. Everything was delicious! When I was unwrapping the cassava dessert, it looked gooey and a little unappetizing. It was one color with no filling inside to be seen and I was preparing to be disappointed. However with the first bite, I changed my mind 180 degrees. It was warm, gooey with hints of coconut flavor, with the perfect amount of balanced sweetness. I highly recommend this to first timers! It was also my first time trying the ginataan bilo bilo. It looked like Vietnamese Che so I was curious. It was similar with a coconut milk base, but I loved the chunks of ginger infused mung bean and many types of potatoes. It also wasn't too sweet and tasted very comforting. I think many people would love this dessert especially for those who like warm and soft foods. I'll definitely be back! read more

Came around 1 pm to get wheat pan de sal and siopao. I've been to lots of other Valerios where the shelves are bursting with diabetes inducing baked goods, but this definitely was not one of them. I walked in to a bakery full of EMPTY SHELVES. It's like 1 pm? What the face? I went to a vietnamese bakery earlier that same day at 9am and they were already pumping put freshly made goods. Despite the empty shelves, I asked the lady if they had pan de sal she replies with, "130". Ummm okay 130 what? Per pan de sal? Per dozen? What ever happened to full sentences? Apparently it meant that they wouldn't have any until 1:30 that day. Then I asked about siopao and again a monosyllabic reply "4" -meaning it won't be ready til 4pm.
