I would give this taco shop zero star but I don't have that option. We order SD Burrito, California shrimp Burrito and Carne Asada fries that I pay $3:50 extra for shrimp. The SD Burrito and Carne Asada Fries were good but our California Shrimp Burrito had 4 shrimps and a load of cheese so disappointed and made. Food was okay, got 2 carne asada, 2 fish tacos and 1 cabeza. $5 a taco ? Wow seems a bit overpriced for what was there. They have a salsa bar but there's a note that tells you to only take so much ? Ummm exactly how much is too much? Ended up spilling some on my hand and went to the counter asking the cashier for a napkin several times... The cook looked at me and smiled but the lady was too busy texting or something and didn't acknowledge me. Finally she turned and I asked again then she walked away, and i had to ask again. I typically head to the one off El Camino Real but decided to give this one a try since I wanted a salad. Walked in and the place was very clean. Ordered a Pollo Asada Salad, 5 Rolled Tacos and a Bean and Cheese Burrito. Overall, all the food was great. The chicken in the salad was well seasoned and the dressing they use adds a nice flavor to the salad. The rolled tacos were very good. The bean and cheese burrito was just as good as well. I went back after years of boycotting this business. I remembered how good the food tasted and hoped that the weird recurrence of cold food was a thing of the past. I WAS WRONG! We ordered a carne asada burrito, a California burrito, and carne asada chips. I live roughly 3 minutes away. I drove straight home and guess what??? All of our food was cold! We were having some house issues, so we ended up staying in the hotel across from Valerie's. On our first night, we decided to visit Valerie's and ordered their shrimp nachos, potato tacos, and flautas. And oh my goodness!! Everything was just sooooo delicious. We have been here a million times since living at the hotel. It was my first time trying potato tacos and I am in awe. They are amazing!! Where have potato tacos been all my life?! I was a little bummed because on some days, I'd call and they would run out of them. If you ever get a chance....order the potato tacos. You won't regret it ;) the workers are always so sweet at Valerie's too. The lady that usually takes my order always understands when I order "flautas" even though I always mispronounce it, hehe. What a hidden gem! The food and service here are *fantastic*, and the location is perfect. My friend and I came here for a quick bite while skateboarding around town, and we couldn't believe how good the food was! Went to Valerie's taco shop off of Ocean Ranch Drive. Opened up my food an a baby roach crawled out of my taco. The manager Lupe didn't like what I had to say. The cook asked did I want him to remake my food are you kidding me. I will be reporting this place to the health department simply disgusting!!! Called the San Diego Health Department on Thurday the 9th of February 2023. The Health Department checked the restaurant the next day. I got a phone call on Monday the 13th. The lady from the Health Department said they found activity made the restaurant shut down an correct the health issues! read more

Valerie's is great if I need a quick fix for junky Mexican food. However, given the plethora of options in the SD region, I would not recommend Valerie's unless it's the only option open. The carne asada and Al pastor can sometimes be overcooked and dry. Additionally, the last time I came, I ordered 7 breakfast burritos and got shorted one in my order. The food is just okay. The hard shell tacos were on the tough side. The shredded chicken was white meat, which was good, but the shells pretty much ruined the meal. There were also hard spots in the rice. The restaurant itself is not very clean and there was a guy trying to flirt with the female cashier. He was using foul language and just kept going on and on as we were trying to place an order. The cashier was not very professional and kept talking to him. I ordered sausage breakfast burrito, California burrito and rolled tacos. Breakfast burrito was pretty good but the California burrito is disgusting. Fries was saggy even though barely in the burrito. Also, the rolled taco is not cooked all the way. You can taste the raw tortilla. I would've taken it back if I didn't grab my food to go. I used to live in San Marcos as when I moved to Oside, I was missing my favorite tacos from Taco Bar. I tried a few other places that were fine but not great. Then I tried Valerie's. It has quickly become my favorite taco place in the Oceanside area. Tacos are delicious. The menu isn't expansive but they cover their bass well. You can go with some tasty Mexican taco stand classics (carnitas tacos is my personal favorite) or some SD favorites (carne asada fries, of course!) my vegetarian SO has a few options he enjoys, too. Good salsa bar (closed during covid). And ousemade horchata and agua frescas (sandia on a hot day is wonderful!). None of that Bang fountain stuff. One small comment, I don't like that they add beans to their tacos. The beans are good but I ask for them on the side. I don't know if the tortillas they use for tacos is homemade or packaged but they are soft and delicious! Some of the best and really add to the quality of tacos. read more

Not fresh. Cook is lazy and won't throw the meat on the grill to melt the cheese. The meat is pre cooked then then place in a metal container. I am so sick of a cold burrito from here. I give it 2 stars because I've been going there almost 2 years and they can't please me with HOT FRESH food. The gal that takes orders is amazing and deserves a better product to sell. I don't usually talk shit about restaurants but If anyone eats at the Ocean Ranch Valerie's, beware they are now charging a 4% surcharge to use ANY type of electronic payment. But this is not the issue. This place was the shit back in the day. Awesome food, decent portions and fair prices. I can't even lie even though their portions and pricing is becoming straight fuckery, their food is still pretty good. Today my mom and I went to order food for the family and if you've been there, you know they keep their receipts right next to the register. My mom paid with card. (She was not aware of the increase in surcharge yet). The cashier asked if she wanted the receipt and she said yes. Thé cashier immediately removed the stack of old receipts off the counter. Upon looking at the receipts, hers and the merchants copy, it had two completely different totals. A difference of $2.73 minus the tip she left. The customer copy included the total that showed the price that also matched the card reader but does not show the 4% charge. (The merchant copy does). When asked what the extra charge was, the cashier "did not know". So he called his "manager" and his manager told him to look at the wall at the posted "new fine print". He pointed to a 5x7 paper next to window that is barely legible with good eye sight. Customers who came in behind us heard the conversation and questioned it as well. We left and the lady who ordered behind us, ran up to us saying "they did not charge me the 4%" but they only gave her the customer copy. They are only including the final total on the merchants copy. Needless to say, if you don't ask they're not going to tell. This place is shady as hell and sadly lost my business today. Pay attention to your money guys. People are getting greedy. read more

We frequent Valeries very often. I always get the bean tostada and it's great. Yesterday, however, the bean tostada was amazing! Whoever the cook was on March 1 of 2023 should stick around. The fish burrito was better, the chile relleno was better, everything was better. And it was already good! But yesterday was the best it's been. Valerie's was our normal spot for quick and convenient Mexican food. We stopped by tonight to get our usual order. No one was at the counter. As I stood by, I looked in the back (kitchen) and saw the cook wearing no mask, wiping his nose with his bare hand. Mind you, this is Mid January 2022 as Omicron is starting to reach record infection levels and mask mandates are in place. I couldn't get out of there sooner. Never going back. (Btw. My review here is somewhat limited because it was my first visit and I only had a breakfast burrito. I was visiting my dentist this morning. After the visit I really wanted a breakfast burrito. I remembered this place across the street. Nothing fancy. You order at the counter and they call you to pick it up. I ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage. Only $4.25. Hard to beat. It had eggs, sausage and lots of cheese, it filled me up. Some would say it was too small, but for me it was perfect. They had a variety of sauces to put on top from a salsa bar. I bought a soft drink and you could get free refills. Service was quick and the counter person was friendly enough. Not outgoing, but not rude. This is one of my favorite places to get tacos in Oceanside. I can't speak for the whole menu bc I get the same thing every time but the pastor, chicken, carnitas, and el jefe tacos are delicious. The service is good, especially considering how busy they can get. I've never had any issues with my orders. I'd recommend calling ahead of time if you're getting your food to go. Maybe if you go in person it'll be alright. Ordered DoorDash multiple times and they've never gotten it my order right. The last, and final, time I ordered this past Saturday I gave specific instructions to double check to make sure I was given fries, not chips.... While they finally succeeded in getting that right, they left out my additional burrito. When I called ... the lady was rude, and said I could have store credit..... and took no information to actually provide it. Plenty of other spots that are capable of getting your order right, and willing to correct any errors if required. Foods ok.... Definitely not worth the trouble. read more
