We did not have a great experience at Valerie's Taco Shop. We ordered California Burritos and rolled tacos to be delivered. The prices are good but that is where it ends. Received our order and noticed they did not include any salsa. This is a first! Perhaps the food does not need salsa? Wrong! Rolled tacos were screaming for salsa and the California Burrito was in need of some heat. The burrito is about 60% of what you get from Colima's and I would say not as flavorful. Perhaps Valerie's Taco Shop might have earned 4 stars if we had sauce for the food. Serve it to us butt naked/no sauce and receive a stinking 3 stars. Hope they read this review and not forget to include sauces with delivery orders. It makes a big difference. At least it did with us. read more

Stopped by here late on a Sunday night right before closing. Ordered a Surf & Turf Burrito and a fried fish taco. Sometimes ordering this late at many places will result in a overcooked mess but the burrito was surprisingly good. Plenty of meat & shrimp. The fried fish taco wasn't very crispy but considering I had to bring it home first before eating, that's probably expected. Docked a star for not having correct pricing on the menu. I was in Oceanside and wanted to get to my hotel. I stopped into the strip mall down the street from my hotel. The person at the register was friendly. Placed my order to go. Got my drink. They have a small salsa bar so got a few different types to try. Got to my hotel and the food was covered in sour cream and it made everything soggy. I've never understood this I feel like anything to go for the integrity of the food should be place in side containers. I can then top my food with those toppings when I get where I am going. I need to start asking for this. The flautas here are not the kind we get here in texas it seemed as if it was a fried flour tortilla. The beans were a bit on the dry side and the rice was good. This is place is so good. Tucked away in the middle of a mid-sized industrial complex, it's modest appearances belays the awesomeness inside. Not only is the service great (what up Coco), but the food is great portions and they make it super quick. Highly recommend this place. read more

I remember when I was going to MiraCosta, how many times I would try to stop in before morning classes and this place wouldn't be open by the posted time. I quit trying to visit for years because of that. Flash forward to now, and I prefer this location over the one on El Camino Real because parking here is a breeze and it's never crowded. The menu is bigger as well. I also don't try to come in the morning anymore; lunch is what I stop in for. The food is solid; I've had enchiladas, carne asada burritos, various tacos, and a California burrito. No complaints. I prefer it over any ~bertos in the area. Alberto's, Rigoberto's, etc. No matter who helps me, they are always friendly. Even the girl who runs about will come greet me. Before COVID you would get a homemade fluffy corn tortilla and cheese crisped up on the bottom for 3.50 a taco, now the tacos are 5.50 each and a pre-made tortilla. Flavorful but way overpriced for what you get. read more

There are so many taco shops you have plenty of choices to pick from. I keep going to Valerie's because the food is great, they work to keep it looking good and the service is always super polite. I don't live down the street any more but I continue to go to this spot vs the two across the street from my new house, because of the superior taste. Food is ok , i once called in to place an order and called right after I hung up because I placed one order wrong , last told me that they were already making food assuming I couldn't change it . Since it had been charged already ? Anyway, they ended up changing my order but once I picked up she told me next time to please check order before placing because now she was short on register and she had to change it . Went to Valerie's taco shop off of Ocean Ranch Drive. Opened up my food an a baby roach crawled out of my taco. The manager Lupe didn't like what I had to say. The cook asked did I want him to remake my food are you kidding me. I will be reporting this place to the health department simply disgusting!!! Called the San Diego Health Department on Thurday the 9th of February 2023. The Health Department checked the restaurant the next day. I got a phone call on Monday the 13th. The lady from the Health Department said they found activity made the restaurant shut down an correct the health issues! read more

I typically head to the one off El Camino Real but decided to give this one a try since I wanted a salad. Walked in and the place was very clean. Ordered a Pollo Asada Salad, 5 Rolled Tacos and a Bean and Cheese Burrito. Overall, all the food was great. The chicken in the salad was well seasoned and the dressing they use adds a nice flavor to the salad. The rolled tacos were very good. The bean and cheese burrito was just as good as well. I went back after years of boycotting this business. I remembered how good the food tasted and hoped that the weird recurrence of cold food was a thing of the past. I WAS WRONG! We ordered a carne asada burrito, a California burrito, and carne asada chips. I live roughly 3 minutes away. I drove straight home and guess what??? All of our food was cold! We were having some house issues, so we ended up staying in the hotel across from Valerie's. On our first night, we decided to visit Valerie's and ordered their shrimp nachos, potato tacos, and flautas. And oh my goodness!! Everything was just sooooo delicious. We have been here a million times since living at the hotel. It was my first time trying potato tacos and I am in awe. They are amazing!! Where have potato tacos been all my life?! I was a little bummed because on some days, I'd call and they would run out of them. If you ever get a chance....order the potato tacos. You won't regret it ;) the workers are always so sweet at Valerie's too. The lady that usually takes my order always understands when I order "flautas" even though I always mispronounce it, hehe. Valerie's is great if I need a quick fix for junky Mexican food. However, given the plethora of options in the SD region, I would not recommend Valerie's unless it's the only option open. The carne asada and Al pastor can sometimes be overcooked and dry. Additionally, the last time I came, I ordered 7 breakfast burritos and got shorted one in my order.
