Okay so get this, after an hour and a half wait only half our order showed up so I phone and they said they never received the rest. They then back track and say we can come get it in 10 minutes or they can deliver it in another hour. So we go pick it up and get it home and they gave us the wrong food. Mine must have 12 chilis chopped up into it so I sweat and cried my way through the worst curry I've ever had. Through tears I reached over for naan to save me and they gave me half a burn multigrain flat bread. I don't feel like this way even a real meal. Unless some old Indian man is out there just as upset that his order of Sunday night diarrhea starter never arrived. I feel your pain literally. Then the two hours and forty five minutes after my order, the food arrives and the guy is pissed we got food already. And then to top it all off I went down to the frozen yogurt shop to cool my throbbing bowels and they were closed! After everything I've been through yelp, they were closed. read more

First off, service was OUTSTANDING. The place was well over half full. I was seated, had a drink, my order taken and food on the table in 12 minutes. Perfectly serviceable Lamb Vindaloo, nothing magic and more pasty than a real one, but the quality of the meat was really high. Side plate of not the best Naan I've ever had with a nice Dal and rather uninspired salad. All in with 2 (non-alco) beers, and tip for $30. Other great thing I can say about it is the steady stream of obviously very regular customers picking up takeaway, and it was full of Brits who are also regulars. Three of us ate here on a whim, and were unexpectedly delighted. I ordered the gluten-free fattoush salad, with tomato, bell peppers, cucumber, green olives, onion, feta, and dressing. The salad was huge and very tasty. And I ordered lamb biryani, which was fabulous. I asked for spicy, and it was perfect, not wimpy at all. Enough to make me flush and sweat. The people I was with ordered samosas, which they said were delicious. They were impressed with the quantity of garlic naan given in one order. The chicken korma came in a coconut, and was apparently wonderful. The friend who ordered butter chicken was trying to keep up with the Jones', and asked for hot. She could barely eat it, but was determined because it was so good. Everything was generous portions. We all asked to pack up leftovers, as it was too delicious to leave. They have gluten-free and vegan options. Next time I'm in North Vancouver, I'll be making a trip to Vaades again. read more

My Husband and I have been ordering from here since it opened and WAS very delicious curry. The last 2 times we ordered the Do Pyaza it is not the same I couldnt eat it. I dont know if they have a different cook but I would try and get the other cook back. This use to be my favourite curry and now I cant eat it. It use to be creamy and a lovely taste, now they have these horrible crunchy cardamon seeds in there and the taste has changed to bitter and watery. On that note, I will not be going there again, its gone down in my estimations, it use to be my favourite curry place. From a very sad customer :( read more

I went there for a lunch special, which was $9.75 plus tax, and included a main dish, a side dish, a lame salad (iceberg lettuce only pretty much), basmati rice, and naan. Since they advertised "vegan", I ordered the chili cauliflower and got them to make it dairy-free. They said they could replace the naan with roti to make that vegan, which was cool -- though they tried to charge me extra for that at the end, which I refused and they obliged, since they didn't warn me in advance. The food itself wasn't anything special. The main dish was rather sweet and bland, without much flavour harmony, and didn't seem very authentic at all. It was okay, but extremely uninspiring. Great local Indian restaurant. You don't necessarily expect this quality at a neighbourhood restaurant. The naan is far better than average as are the daal makhni and the BBQ fish. I wish they were halal and I wish they had a deeper variety of vegetarian dishes, but overall very happy with the place. Worth a visit for sure. read more

Quite decent. Nice favours in virtually all the sauces. Avoid the paneer though -- it's undercooked and underwhelming.

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is a carnival of taste in your mouth. It's hard to try new things on the menu because I always want to go back to the things I have had before. My favourite is the spinach gosht. Portions are large so there are always left overs. The service is fast and friendly and feels like coming back to old friends. We drink a lot of water with our meal and our glasses are never left empty. This is one of my top favourite places. read more

Butter paneer lunch special (dine in and order there) was very tasty- a little bit more pricier than say other places, however you actually get a proper dish rather than a couple of tablespoons of the curry like Tandoori Fusion. Neighbor next to me had the pistachio curry and could not stop from licking his lips - loved it! Great place to order take-out and their website makes it easy! The atmosphere of this restaurant is a little bit quiet and boring, but the food is really tasty and very good value. When we first got to the north shore our mission was to find an Indian restaurant. This one was on point! Some of the best indian I've had in the entire city. However the last few take out orders have been more than disappointing. The sauces are watered down leaving the meals runny with no flavor and the orders are always missing something or are wrong in general. I have contacted the manager and they were kind enough to offer a credit we used it and the food was great! Last night we ordered again and once again soupy curry and sauces and our order was wrong again. I'm now on the hunt for a new place to try. read more

Another of our three favorite Indian places on Lonsdale. The place is not usually crowded, the food tastes great. The atmosphere is a little bland, but very tidy. They have an excellent "meal option" including Dahl, Salad, Rice and Naan for $5, and the service is usually very good. We will be back ! read more

Vaades has been a LoLo takeout mainstay for me for a few years now. The food is always great and the sauces seem to have more depth of flavour than many other places. My most-ordered dish is probably the lamb vindaloo, which can be made pretty fiery if you want it to be. There's also a good selection of vegetarian, chicken and seafood as well. Try the chicken coconut curry. The on-line menu and ordering system is convenient and easy to use and there's a 10% discount. The dinner deal of a main plus veggie-of-the-day (usually lentils) plus white or brown rice plus naan is a big meal, enough to share for two with moderate appetites. I've run into the occasional takeout delay on a Friday or Saturday night when they're busy, but mid-week orders have always been ready in 20-25 minutes. read more

This is a great Indian food restaurant. The menu choices are more diverse than you woud expect..they seem to have a few items that you don't easily find in other Indian food restaurants. I had potato pakora to start with..and samosas. There were three choices of sauce on the side..tamarind, mint, or a very nice sambal. The naan was served piping hot. My chicken korma was tasty tasty tasty. I love soaking up the last bit of sauce with my naan. The mango desert was beautifully presented. This is a nice place to take a first date..or to have an anniversary of a first date. I think that the North Shore has discovered this place..it gets busy after 7pm. read more

Absolutely loved the food. The egg curry is actually to die for. Plus the mint chicken tikka was super tender and juicy and grilled to perfection. The garlic naan was so soft and flavorful that the kids could just eat that naan for dinner. Must go if you are in the area. read more

I came to this place a few weeks back expecting awesome indian food based on all the ratings. I was EXTREMELY disappointed with my meal. I got an order of samosa, they were really bland and I had to cover them in mint chutney and hot sauce. I also ordered the standard for most-butter chicken(usually the safest bet at any Indian place). They should change the name of it on the menu to spicy tomato soup with tiny bits of chicken at the bottom. I paid $15 and some change. I was pretty infuriated. I could have enjoyed a better meal for around the same price at Honjin a block away. read more

I went there with my parents and my wife for the first time. All of us enjoyed the food and felt taken care of. impeccable service and very well priced menu. good chai! (I actually went with two containers one night and got some to-go) only had lunch here so I'm not sure what the dinner menu is like. Lunch was phenomenal. For $9 you get a very generous meal that is presented beautifully and is DELICIOUS. I had the Indian Burrito with Paneer (they have meat options too) and it was great. Served with a vegetable/potato stew of some sort - I don't know the name of the dish - a fresh salad with a lovely dressing and rice. My friend tried the Pistachio Chicken Curry and I had some - OMG was it ever tasty. Something about the cardamom aroma with curry and cream... decadent. The service was great as well. The place is clean and simple. The most unfortunate thing about this place is the location. This stretch of 3rd Street is a tough one for new restaurants because there isn't much pedestrian traffic and people driving by might not notice - a shame really. So I hope word gets out there quickly - the place is a gem. And there is parking right in front of the restaurant in addition to the street parking. read more

Great place! One of my favorites and definitely the best Indian food on the North Shore. The menu is varied but kept small enough that every dish comes out well made. Portions are plentiful, especially for take-out. The parsley / coriander blend, used as a dip for samosas and a coating for one of the chicken dishes, may be the best thing on the menu. read more

The food is decent but avoid peak times. Waiting over an hour for food really sucks, especially when you've ordered for take-out and you're standing there twiddling your thumbs. I've done take out here a dozen times and decided to drop in for Dine Out instead. Their menu greatly lacks detail as it doesn't actually mention the plethora of nuts inside their dishes which would be quite important to note (most places I've been to that note down gluten and vegan options also mention allergies). Anyway, I called ahead to ask how availability was for a walk-in. They said there was tons of space but when I showed up 10 minutes later, they were packed. I waited for a seat anyway. It took 20 minutes before my order was taken, another 30 minutes before my appetizer arrived. After the appetizer arrived, the entrees arrived 40 minutes later with us waiting 20 minutes for the table to get cleared after we ate our entrees. Desserts took another 20 minutes to arrive. Service here was atrocious. If we had delivery, food would have arrived in 25 minutes. The woman kept mentioning she'd bring more water for us, would bring the jug, place it on our table as she assisted the table next to us, fill their glasses, and then walk away with the jug. This happened 3 times. I also loved that when there were almond slices in the curry and I mentioned my allergy, they said "oh it's just a garnish, it's not much".. sure. I saw another table there with a reservation for 12 not have space for their seats because the service was so slow that half the tables were not available yet. I would never come back for dine-in. I agree with the person who said all the positive reviews are fake. The food was pretty terrible. Worst briyani I've ever had in my life. It didn't taste or look like any briyani I've ever had, and I've had a lot. They need to change cooks or they'll go out of business with people coming only once and never returning. BEST Authentic curry in Vancouver. I give it six or seven stars! The very best curry I have had anywhere in Canada. You may be able to get Indian food as good as this in India or England but nowhere else in Canada. Try it!
