Took a chance and ordered from Vaades via Uber Eats. While the food was promptly delivered, I soon learned why. The food was stale and not hot, and delivered in a styrofoam container which I'm certain is illegal now in City of North Van. I ordered a sampler, as I'm one person, and was charged and extra commission due to my order size (how insulting). I reported to Uber Eats and there was no option for a credit to my account. I definitely won't be ordering here again if they're just pushing out leftover lunch specials that didn't sell for dinner orders. read more

Great flavor, great price. We went around 12:45, so nearing the "end of lunch hour." That said, there were three 2-seater tables available in a small store of 40 seats, and we got seated right away. All their lunch entrees are $9, and they are enough to stuff you and make you want to nap under your desk at first. The only issue we faced was that we were the "second round" of order, so we waited until around 1:20pm for the food to arrive. The server comforted us, saying that "for good food, patience." We had the spinach lamb, and a chicken dish (forgot what it was called). We both thought the lamb was amazing, it was a mixture like pulled pork, except the meat is extremely moist, and the flavor is amazing, something you can't put a finger on and go "a-ha! I can mix this at home," because, you can't make it like they do. Seriously. Also, their rice is different from regular Indian places. It's pan-fried so it has great texture, and not soggy. Reminds me a little of Chinese pan-fried rice. The only down-side is the dessert. I love Gulab Jamun, which is like a timbit soaked in syrupy deliciousness. Extremely dense, sweat, and has this amazing taste like fresh dough, condensed milk, and yum. Vaades makes it with a twist; they put rosewater in their syrupy mixture. It's very creative, but rosewater honestly did not mix well with the flavor of gulab jamun. Maybe it's because the rosewater was extremely overbearing, plus the extreme sweetness, but it ended up not hitting the homey goodness, or the creative flair it intended. Vaades is just ok. I have only eaten here for lunch, but have done so about 10 times, trying the majority of the lunch dishes. The good: - pre-ordering online saves you 10% off their already pretty good lunch prices - the lunch combo comes with the main dish, rice, naan, and a vegetable side. - sometimes the vegetable side is this lentil dish - maybe a dal makhani? I'm not sure - it's not on the lunch menu. But it's good. - they are very speedy and never busy at lunch - free wifi! The not-as-good: - the vegetarian options are "meh". - the amount of lamb and chicken in the dishes is always too small. Once I only had two lonely chunks of lamb. I will likely continue to go there because it is the only Indian in the immediate area and the lunch value is good. I would not pay full price at dinner, however. read more

We also asked for the spice/heat level to be mild as our kids do not eat very spicy food but the food was definitely spicy (even for our taste and we are used to eating spicy food). Tonight was my first time visiting Vaades: I had their three-course, dine-out meal (C$20). Starter was deep fried shrimps (4) with chipotle sauce and mango sauce. Main was coconut curry (in a actual coconut) served with a plate of rice, naan, and salad. Dessert was Rashgulla (2 ball-shaped dumplings in syrupy water). Fried shrimps were juicy and tasted delicious with the sauces, The server did not ask me regarding the level of spiciness in my curry, but I was satisfied with its taste. Very fulfilling, It was interesting to try their Indian dessert, Rashgulla, but it's too sweet for me. I would re-visit to try out other meals. This location is pretty close to Lonsdale Quay (seabus), so taking a walk after a meal there is recommended. read more

I discovered this place after buying a Groupon for it on a whim- and I wish I'd heard of it sooner! Very delicious meal. The medium is a spicy medium which I found just perfect, but stick to mild if you're sensitive to spices. The food came out fresh and piping hot, and a good value if you get the complete meal (rice, naan, salad, and some sort of chickpea stew) There are vegan and vegetarian options as well as a variety Of meat dishes. I LOVE VAADES......BUT SERIOUS WARNING!!!! Ive been eating there for years and they have consistently reassured me what items were vegan. They even advertise as being very vegan friendly and gluten-free friendly (so you would figure they know what vegan and gluten-free means). Turns out, they dont. They've been feeding vegans mayo for *years?* and im not sure what else is actually not vegan that they are feeding to vegan or non-dairy eaters. :( So sad to find this out, as its the only place I like to eat at on the north shore. read more

Went with friends and sampled quite a few dishes; lamb curry was the star, and chicken curry also very good. Cauliflower dish was tasty, both naan's (regular and onion), tandori chicken - all the food was very fresh and the indian spices and herbs were exceptionally fresh tasting. The location in a strip mall is unfortunate as it doesn't do justice to the food, and the decor inside is "sparse" at best - really could do with a couple plants and maybe some Indian silks or something just to jazz it up a bit. I love East Indian food. There are not that many places on the North Shore to go to. This restaurant is the best around. Every order has a different flavour and taste. It's nice to experience new East Indian food. Many places seem to use the same sauce for there dishes. I will plan to eat here many times. The food is delicious!! read more

We tried this restaurant tonight for the first time. We used an Entertainment book coupon. The food lives up to the reputation of the other comments of this restaurant. We tried the pistachio chicken - a unique Paris dish that we have never found any other restaurant. The chicken was so till tender it melts in the mouth. Likewise the chicken masala was delicious. We also tried the appetizer salad which was big enough for two. With brown rice and naan bread it was delicious meal and we will be certain to return. Soft music and a candle on each table. I have come to this place several times as it's very close to my house. The first time I went there, I enjoyed the food. I had ordered butter chicken, Tikka Masala, Tandoori chicken, Samosas, couple of rice and naans. However, the few times after I went there, I was not impressed with the food or service; The food quality and service goes downhill in my opinion if you order online for dine-in and depending on how much food you had ordered the last time. They remember you! The butter chicken was run-down and watery and the service was not good. Same waiter, different service. The waiter is also too casual for my liking. In comparison to Indian Fusion, I would say Indian Fusion has better food in general and much better service. The prices are the same when you add it all up. Wrong move as they completely ruined the night. Their butter chicken was more like chicken and tomato sauce... No spice no real flavor. The prawns were obviously not freshly made and were rubbery; and the cherry on top of it all was the bryani we ordered; although it looked great it had an after taste of burnt rice. You'd think as we were the only guests we would at least have had good service from our server but alas no such luck. The server was cold and kept hiding in the back of the restaurant. Overall I'd say if your that desperate for Indian food hit your local grocer; they now have a wide variety of Indian sauces and curries in stock. My wife and I recently dined at Vedas Indian Restaurant. The staff was friendly and courteous. The owner, a very friendly young man, was there to answer any questions and explain the dishes to us, which was nice. They've got a wide selection of menu items as well as an extensive drink menu. We skipped the appetizers which I regret because they sounded so good. My wife went for a chicken dish and I went for the Halibut curry. It was amazing. My wife and I both ordered our dishes 'hot'. Her's was just the right amount of spice, but I need a little more heat, so if you're like me, ask for super hot! We got the optional add-on (rice, naan and lentils). Very generous portions for an extra $5. I would recommend the add-on if you're very hungry. You wont be disappointed with this place. read more
