The only thing I will say to add to my above review is that you need to beware of the heat. I get the sense that this restaurant caters to real Indians and it's really spice. I mean mild was really spicey. I can't imagine what hot must be like. In the 60s when we got the first Indian restaurants they didn't know how to make it mild and you would really burn your mouth. It reminds me of those days. I used to love it in those days but as I careen towards 70 I can't take the heat any more. Still, this is the best Indian food - on a par with the amazing Vij's and Swad, our new North Van go to. It was good in North Vancouver in it's divey little location, it is fabulous now in its glitzy new store. So many different and interesting spices. Bravo Vaades or whatever you're called now. I rarely complain but the last two times we ordered from Vaades they got our order wrong or flat out forgot parts of our meals. This time I ordered the salad, it was literally a container of mush, swimming in dressing topped with bottom of the bag broken cheese Doritos. (I actually called them to see if they actually served Doritos on their salads and yup) The salad says "comes with fried tortillas chips" I keep trying to give these guys a chance as I know it's considered a cheap place to order plus covid and all but for three people it still cost me nearly $70! Definitely the last time we will be ordering from here. I'm so not a picky person with almost anything but this I dumped in my green waste bin. read more

Was good! Ya! Not bad. Although not quite as good as Indian Fusion up Lonsdale, but really this was pretty good. Not the nicest of restaurants but the lunch menu was simple and what we were hungry for. The lunch plate comes with rice, chick peas, salad, nan bread, and one item. I had the eggplant and my partner had the paneer. Was both really good with the rice. The salad was very basic lettuce with Italian style dressing, and the nan bread was a'ight. This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Vancouver. I always capitalize on the Groupon offer when it's available. I love the specialty curries that are nuts-based and they can make almost anything vegetarian/vegan. The price is reasonable even without the Groupon and the portions are extremely filling. My go-to orders are the Pistachio Chicken curry, Coconut Shrimp curry, and the Signature Beef curry. When it says "signature" you know it had better be good! Those curries are exactly what we ordered along with a Crispy Prawn appetizer. read more

This is my favourite Indian restaurant on the North Shore and if I'm ever craving Indian food I come here! They are quick and their takeout is always hot and well packed! I often order the chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, and the pistachio chicken curry but my favourite is the palak paneer!! I can't handle a ton of spice, but I order their spice on the regular level and it's perfect. Love Vaades, they satisfy my craving for delicious Indian food close to home. read more

We were craving Indian food on our vacation and we chose this place because of the pictures and decided to bypass the overall rating since there were plenty of people that gave it 5 stars. The food was just ok and it came out warm but not piping hot. It had plenty of spices but not enough flavor. The "Appy Platter" was good but overfried and didn't look anything like the pictures. The pictures did show the naan as thin and crispy and that's just how they were. Maybe it's just a matter of personal preference but this one wasn't a winner for me. read more

Oh my goodness. The most incredible curries we've eaten in years!!! The lamb Vindaloo and Rogan Josh were beyond divine, tasty with the perfect blend of spices and heat. The chicken tikka Marsala and butter chicken for those less daring, were just as delicious! Every single order was flavored to perfection and were generously portioned. We usually go to Indian Fusion on lonsdale, but they are just so expensive. So we decided to try this place. We both really enjoyed it. You get a lot more food for your money. I don't find them quiet as friendly as Indian fusion, but they were still polite. With that said, we've only been here during Covid. So things are likely running differently for them. We will most likely make this our go to Indian place on the shore... instead! Though my tummy isn't ever happy with me afterwards. At all Indian food places. So we don't go too often. Not sure why. I tried Vaades for the first time. I ordered the cashew chicken curry and prawn masala. The masala was very good, it had a rich texture and spices were spot on. Cashew chicken curry was quite good, and serving it in a coconut was a nice touch to the presentation. The portion was average. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. The music wasn't too loud or intrusive. Service was average, there wasn't someone to greet and welcome customers near the front, as everyone was in the kitchen. But this could have been due to the fact that I got there early evening and didn't have a server working yet. Overall, the experience was definitely above average. read more

This is one of my favourite south Asian restaurants! We happened to stumble upon it as we were in town visiting friends. We tried a few standard dishes and we found the portions very reasonable! There was lots of leftovers. What we liked the best was the garlic naan that we ordered. You gotta try it! The service was good, and the waiter was very helpful. Invited friends for dinner and decided to order food from Vaades. Spoke with Kapil (Chef/Owner), really nice guy, who helped with my selection. We had Tandoori Pork Sausages, Shrimp Curry, Pistachio Chic, Palak Paneer, Maa Ki Daal and Garlic Naan. Every dish was spectacular - perfect balance of spices. Celiac and food allergy sufferers be very wary! Advertise gluten free and dairy free options but have no idea what this can mean to people who suffer. Told us about potential cross contamination of gluten AFTER we ate the entree. Ordered df/gf mains...both contained dairy "just a little but"!!! Remade one for us but by then my daughter was too anxious to eat more than a mouthful. We went out of our way to find this restaurant but very sorry we did. AND they charged the full price! The stars go out to the quality of food and the service. I've had take out from here a number of times previously and had not been incredibly impressed (all food travels differently). Having eaten in the restaurant for the first time vs take out, my experience in quality was much better and they have charming presentation in house. Portion size is great; we ordered two mains plus rice and had leftovers. Best naan bread I've had (in the city), good lamb vindaloo & prawn curry. Not my favorite raita, though still would order it again. The atmosphere isn't anything to write home about, though like many ethnic restaurants it's more about the quality of the food than the ambience. If I want ambiance, quality and a scene (for Indian dining) I have another spot I'm loyal to in another part of town. Overall, I would recommend Vaades as one of 4 Indian places l'd send someone to and am a repeat fan of. read more

I order from here once a week. Fresh food, beautifully spiced, flavourful and delicious. You have to try the biryani, lamb or chicken are my favourites. You can choose your spice level and they have many GF and vegetarian options too. In the comments section, I put "no utensils or napkins needed" and they obliged. Besides saying "I do," eating at Vedas was my favourite part of my wedding night. I didn't know a thing about restaurants in North Van, so a friend of mine got suggestions from a friend of hers, and Vedas was on the list. I looked at their website and menu and was impressed. It was also close to the hotel where we were staying, so that was a bonus. We decided that was where we'd nosh after nuptials. Because we had 11 people (7 adults and four kids), we were able to order a vast array of selections: chicken samosas, chicken lollipops, fish finger fries, crispy prawns, butter chicken, dum murgh, lamb do pyaza, daab chingri, khas e fish, baingan bharta, palak paneer, chana methi, with roti, naan, papadums, and biryani rice. ALL of it was delicious! While some of the selections were familiar (like the butter chicken and palak paneer), most of it was new to all of us. The kids, who are less interested in complex flavours, loved the stuff from the "snacks" menu, especially the samosas with their light crunchy skins, the crispy prawns, and the fish fingers. The adults loved the khas e fish, which is slow-cooked halibut. It was very tender and juicy. My faves were the dum murgh (chicken in almond and ghee sauce) and daab chingri (coconut prawns). So creamy and heavenly. It was the perfect spread of Indian food. The flavours were all well balanced. The breads were light, slightly crispy, and chewy, which is how I love it. I'd venture to say it was better than Vij's, which I was less impressed with the past couple of times I went there. read more

Wow am i am happy to have found this place. I was looking for good Indian food in the lower lonsdale area, and i defnitely found it. I saw there lunch specials, plus a coupon for a free drink when you buy a lunch special, and also the good reviews on here so i decided to give them a try. I ordered the Shahi Paneer with comes with rice, naan, side salad and delicous dressing, PLUS another vegetable of the day serving, which tasted like Chana Masala today. I got my free drink of Chai (with the coupon), and this all came to $8.50 Located in a tiny strip mall it's a jem in the rough. Inside it's open, simple but perfect and slighty romantic. The Shahi Paneer was rich, and perfectly sized, i couldn't get enough of that flavor. Service was nice, with the owner and his partner in the kitchen. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Went here for lunch and came away very happy. Their lunch menu is a few select items with side rice, nann, salad, and veggie of the day. Today was a black dal dish. All the food tasted very very good. We had a butter chicken and paneer dish (I can't remember the name of the dish). Both tasted very good, but I have to say the paneer dish had a deeper flavor to it that made me crave another bite. The butter chicken was a very bright flavor of a dish. The service was very good, attentive and nice. The only draw back I had was that it felt like there wasn't enough meat in the dish, even as a single serve item. I want to go back for dinner and see how it goes, and taste more with a bigger menu. read more

I used to love Vaades and wrote many positive reviews on Yelp (some of which were not published for some reason). We used to go for dinner about once a month. However, the last 3 times we have gone, the food has been so mediocre that I now have to write a negative review. Everything we ordered was watered down and bland. The cilantro mint chicken kebabs, which used to arrive still sizzling and tasted so fresh, now taste like boiled chicken. The lamb vindaloo was so-so, and the palak paneer was all cream and very little spinach (!!). Unless I hear they have turned things around, we will not return. read more

OH MY GOD. I have dreams about this food. Seriously. We went as we'd purchased a Groupon on a whim and were going to be on the North Shore in the evening around dinner time. At first looking at the menu I wasn't sure what to do as many items were new to me, and one or two I Indian dishes I'm familiar with weren't on it. Being vegetarian limits my options too. Anyhow, my fiance had a pistachio chicken curry and I had a spinach mushroom curry. They were so. freaking. amazing. I dipped naan bread in his curry and then wanted to steal the whole bowl. Both dishes were so different and so flavourful. We can't stop telling people about this restaurant. It's a good thing it isn't closer to home as we would probably be broke. We also had veggie samosas which were good as well. *Went back a couple days ago with my sister-in-law and her bf, who isn't very adventurous with food, and everyone left stuffed and satisfied! :) He got some sort of chicken kebabs. I went to this place earlier in the week after having a friend recommend it. She raved about the lunch special, said you get massive amounts of food for under $10. I went today to check it out and I'm so happy I did. The capacity is small, and the restaurant was full, even though it was about 3:30. Half of the place was filled with a party of 20, and the other half was parties of two coming in and out. The decor is beautiful, I'm sure at night with the lights are lowered and the candles are lit it would be even better. I loved the choice of music, I'm used to the high-pitched, falsetto classic hindi pop songs which really get in the way of conversation, but Vedas was playing soft, ambient tabla music that really complemented the environment and allowed for easy listening or conversation. We were greeted by who I found out later was the co-owner of the place, we ordered our food from the VERY reasonably priced lunch menu, if I recall correctly there were about 15 or so items to choose from, ranging in price from $8.50-12.00 (don't quote me on that). While the food did take a while to come, it was understandable considering there was only 1 cook in the back, and one server for that aforementioned party of 20 to keep up with. Good thing my friend and I weren't in a hurry. I stopped and chatted with the co-owner (Kapil?) and he seemed like a really nice guy and his love for the restaurant industry was evident. A lot of Indian places in South Vancouver hardly look you in the eye as they take payment, but this Kapil was genuine and engaged in warm, friendly conversation. I ordered a sort of lamb curry donair, the lamb was tender and meaty, there wasn't fatty chunks of cheap meat that I find at some restaurants. The lunch special also included rice, a vegetable of the day (which was cauliflower and potatoes in a butter sauce), and a simple salad with ranch (?) dressing. My friend had the Shahi Paneer and the sauce was thick, tomato-y and had a perfect creamy consistency, just like it should be. The naan was thick and buttery, a rarity, I find .A lot of indian restaurants have watered down their sauces to an unacceptable level, I'm happy to see this place didn't lower themselves to that poor standard just to save a few pennies. The delivery drivers are really friendly and are bringing the best indian food on the north shore! AVOID THIS PLACE! It isn't just the worst Indian restaurant, it's just a terrible restaurant all together. My wife and I waited over an hour to get our order. When it arrived, it was cold, undercooked and completely lacking in flavor. I told the waitress, repeatedly, "we want our meal spicy." She totally ignored me. I paid $20 for a very small portion of what could only be described as, 'hastley prepared vegetables in tomato sauce.' When I brought up my concerns with management, I was told the waitress made a mistake with my order. She never told the cook to prepare it spicy. He did not offer to comp my entrée or bring a dessert. He simply recorded the incident on a small pad. He told me to come back another day to receive a $15 credit towards another meal. This would not cover even the cheapest item on the menu. As if I would ever return. There are several good Indian restaurants on the North Shore that will serve you a descent meal at a fair price.
