I requested garlic shrimp mofongo, which included lettuce and tomato. My wife requested pulled pork mofongo, and my son chicken mofongo. The mofongo was good. The garlic shrimp sauce was very tasty and the shrimp were great. We also had some tostones, which were thin, but very tasty. The portions were large and the meal was very filling. Good food, good service.

I ordered the pork and fried plantain twice (carne frita y tostones). They're pretty tasty. What makes it special is the very nice cashier that has always taken our order. I know they opened a few months ago and I am sure they will keep getting better. My one piece of advice is the following. When I first walked in all you can see is their fritters in the case (empanadas, I call them pastellillos, papa rellena (meat filled potato balls) and alcapuria. That's all I thought they had and I almost walked out, turned around and decided to try. As I was ordering my husband found one single piece a paper with menu. They had so much more to offer. So hopefully they can get large colorful images of their food and prices and have it fill their side wall. Other than that, Kuddos to this small business. Let's keep them open.

Love that I asked for fried plantains and he took two fresh plantains out of the refrigerator and peeled and fried the plantains. Talk about FRESH!!! The pork bites have great flavor and very soft and scrumptious. It's in Market 42 a new place which I'd clean and very interesting mix of stores. Go visit them and say Cee Cee sent you,, lol. Not that he really knows me by name.. lol. His wife works the other restaurant they have, both amazing. You can go to this one on a date :).

I never tried Tropical Bay before but checked out out their food stand in Brunswick this weekend. They specialize in Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine. AMBIANCE: Market 42 is modern, open floor food court. Tropical Bay has a stand at the market. Guests can dine in at the open floor seating or the patio. Orders are also available to go. Pre-ordering seems to be an option online. FOOD: The menu can be best described as Latin fusion. There are plenty of choices based on your preferred tropical adventure - pina colada, rice bowls, salad bowls, rolls, desserts, empanadas, Latin American juice, and more. You can also build a plate from all vendors at the market by browsing. I was craving so many things at once that I built a little meal at Tropical Bay. My order: Dominican Chicken Rice Bowl ($10.99 for a small bowl) - You build the chicken bowl and add additional ingredients at the food line (think Chipotle style). I added rice, cheese, pineapple, and sweet plantains ($2.99 up charge) to my bowl. I did not enjoy this bowl at all. The rice tasted undercooked and the chicken was over seasoned. It more so tasted like it was marinated too long. I've extensively traveled the North coast of the Dominican Republic tasting a lot of chicken dishes way beyond the resort in communities and eateries, this was my least favorite. Perhaps I'm not used to the flavor or this particular preparation method. Plantains were a saving grace - juicy and well prepared. I didn't think that the bowl or plantains had a good sized portion of any ingredients, not worth the price in my option. Other ingredient up-charges are fried plantains and yuca fries (also $2.25). Guava egg rolls ($4.49, 2 each): Tasty little things! So unique to the area! I could eat a whole pile of these! The crust resembles McDonalds pie crust. The interior is tropical goodness. They are tiny and so delicious. Packages of more than two would be very much appreciated. Three Milk Cake ($4): Tres Leches cake in a cup. It's very easy to eat in this format and is also perfectly moist. It is one of the better Tres Leches that I've found locally. VALUE: Tropical Bay has rewards through Toast. Make sure that you track your reward points. No sign-up is necessary if you're already Toast member. Just ask for your receipt via email or phone to keep track of the points. SERVICE: The service was average, nothing notable. It's understandable for a food court stand that calls for more transactional experiences. As I ate my meal on the patio at Market 42, I concluded that I would come back for guava egg rolls and plantains. I'd also like to explore the menu to find more dinner entree options. So far guava egg rolls are my first amor!

The curry chicken meal came with a few pieces of chicken, cabbage, plantains, and rice & peas. Everything on the plate was delicious. The chicken was juicy and tender, and it was flavorful but not too spicy. I really enjoyed the plantains, which had the perfect amount of sweetness. And I'm not typically the biggest fan of cabbage, but I like the way Gar and Mar cooks and seasons theirs. But oh my God, THE BEEF PATTY. Next time I come here, I might just make my meal a bunch of beef patties. The curry chicken was good, but the beef patty was absolutely fantastic. The crust was so buttery and flaky, and the filling so flavorful and well-spiced. The patty was so good that I ordered another one for "dessert," though the patty is very much savory. It was a good amount of food for under $20. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice and casual.
