I've grown close to the entire team, the mom, the friend Jackie who's a cook there as well. They treat you like you are going to visit a family member. Really great experience. We were in the area and this popped up so I figured we would try it. I have loads of Puerto Ricans in my family and have had spent my life eating Puerto Rican food. Everything was very well made with plenty of flavor. We had the sampler appetizer platter which, for $25, was a big plate of food. Ithad Yucca balls, Yucca fries, Tostones, Fried cheese, fried pork chunks, etc. Really well done and with some delicious dipping sauces. I had the shrimp Mofongo, which was excellent. It had a garlic cream sauce that was extremely tasty. The Mofongo itself was perfectly seasoned and prepared. My wife had the chicken and rice bowl which she enjoyed. Everything we ordered was excellent. Started with a drink. The Frontera was nice and strong. I had the beef mofongo and it came with a little salad on the side. The taste of the mofongo was delicious, it's my favorite of northeast ohio so far, and I've had a lit of it all over. The meat was good, a tiny bit dry, but still tasty. I also had a shrimp empanada. That was excellent too. It had a tasty pastry and full if shrimp. Finished the meal with a tres Leche cake. It's delicious too, and I especially loved all the cinnamon in it. It's a nice smaller size than standard and was great amount for after filling up on entrées. The waitress was fantastic. Before we even asked anything she brought out a little sample for us to try the meat. We had told them it's our first time and weren't sure if it was just carryout or if the dining room was open. It's a small dining room but it's cute with fake plants everywhere. They also have a lit of tvs on the wall. Only bad thing is the restrooms are not handicap friendly. They are very tiny and the chair won't fit. Plus no grab bars either. A nice feature is a small patio out front and they allow well behaved dogs there. read more

Fresh fresh fresh!! This place has quick and delicious bowls, salads and mofungo. I am absolutely going back! The bowls are around $12-15 and they're big. You get rice, protein. (We tasted a variety of the proteins and they were all soooo good!) salad and extras on the salad. They also have plantains and yucca with pickled onions. The owner is the one who served and seriously, you couldn't find a nicer, more friendly guy! He and his wife own it. He even brought my dog a dog dish of fresh water. The inside is so cute! It's very bright and happy. We ate on the little patio (dogs allowed). I'm definitely looking forward to visiting during the winter so I feel like I'm getting some sunshine. We recently moved to Broadview Hts and wanted to try the new restaurants in the area. We ordered to go - Dominican chicken was amazing and the tostones/fried plantains were so crispy. They were thinner than other places, but I liked that. The spicy mayo and garlic aioli sauces were yummy. The pinto beans over rice hit the spot. Reminded me of my grandmas beans! I will be trying the mofongo and egg rolls next time after reading other reviews. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful when making decisions on what to get. This is truly a hidden gem! It's in a strip mall but has a patio out front and is very cute inside. The Monfongo is DELICIOUS! It was my 1st time trying it, and it exceeded my expectations. I got the trifongo with Dominican chicken - sooooo good! (Note: There's an upcharge for this instead of regular mofongo.) Absolutely try the egg rolls - they are filled with sweet plantains and cream cheese - unique and addictive. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Never been here before. Diane was so nice to take the time to give my mother samples and talk her through everything. That meant a lot to me. Got take out for some friends that were visiting; this was my first time ever eating here. It was *spectacular*. The food is exceptionally fresh and well seasoned; even the side of black beans, which sometimes taste straight from a can in most places, was perfectly and carefully seasoned and absolutely delicious. I am a huge fan of mofongo, and they have some interesting takes on it ("trifongo") and they were all delicious and MOIST! A lot of mofongo just gets really dry at other Caribbean places. This was the best I've had outside the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Every kind of meat was also juicy and perfectly seasoned (we got the butter chicken, Dominican chicken, and roasted pork). I also got a sample of all their different kinds of empanadas; these are the kind that I LOVE, that are fried and not at all dry. Again, each kind deliciously well-seasoned. In addition to the food being fantastic, the service was great. The person who helped us was super friendly and cheerful and paid close attention to detail on a large to-go order, ensuring everything we ordered was correct. Although we took it to-go, while we waited for our order (which was very fast! But I live 5 minutes away so we were there early) we got to check out the ambiance of the place. It's bright and lively and very clean. Looks like a great place to sit at a bar with some good drinks so I'll be sure to try this soon. read more

Second visit: Food was very good again There were 2 new people at front end: The guy was friendly but was not doing a good job explaining the menu. But at least wanted to appear helpful. Later a woman with glasses came to prepare our plates. She was testy. Started getting annoyed and seemed upset. I think the issue was she not understanding English but Hi! Its ok. If communication is an issue, you make it worse by coming across as rude. We drove 30 min to this place. We loved trying this food! The lady serving us was very helpful in helping us decide what to order. We got the Cajun rice, the Puerto Rican chicken, we tried the plantains, and then we were able to decide what we wanted on our salad. We liked the cilantro dressing better than the garlic, but both were good. You order at the counter like a chipotle. But they have a nice room to sit in and eat. Everything was delicious! This was my first visit to Tropical Bay even though it isn't very far from home. We started out with beef and chicken empanadas. Both were very tasty. Then I ordered a Monfugo Bowl with buttermilk chicken. Neither me or my dinner guest had ever had Mofongo but enjoyed the dish very much. My friend ordered a Cuban rice bowl with half Dominican chicken and half Caribbean beef stew. Both of these were also excellent. Plenty of other items we want to try on our next visit! First time, ordered for delivery. Most tender, delicious flavorful meats, not an ounce of fat or anything to "pick around." The roast pork was magical. Best I've ever had. I have eaten here several times and absolutely love them, it's authentic and of the highest quality everytimes the mofungo is freshly made to order which makes all the difference the owner is very friendly as well as her husband. What a great different option to have for a fresh, fast, affordable meal! Came in for lunch and got a small bowl with yellow rice, black beans, roasted pork and it comes with a salad. The cilantro dressing is delicious! The staff was so friendly and asked if I wanted to try anything before i ordered. As for the mofongo, it was fine; it was my least favorite part of the meal, but I'm glad I tried it. I've heard so much about this place. I thought I'm gonna have to give it a try. I did not dine in, I ordered everything carry out. I ordered a little bit of most everything because I couldn't' make a decision. Everything was fantastic. The menu is very unique and has the set up similar to chipotle but the food was clearly homemade. The pork was still a large piece of meat, and when she took it out. She pulled it apart and gave me my portion. The pork was succulent. I can't describe the taste or the spices but it was so good and tender. I didn't order the Dominican chicken but I wish I did and I will next time. She gave me a sample and it was not too spicy and had a great flavor.
