I requested churrasco and mofongo with a side of fried plantains. A little while later, the food was ready. My churrasco had a yummy seasoning on it, which gave it a good flavor. It was cooked well done and was tender. The mofongo was excellent too. The sauce they give you was tasty. Everyone enjoyed their food. I tasted the pork and it had a sweet and tangy flavor to it. Very good. We'll be back for more.

The empanada was kinda hard and didn't taste as good as from Gually's or El Kiosquito. The bread pudding was moist and flavorful though. Last Friday night we visited Paloma for the first time. We made a reservation on Open Table (which…read moreworked well), hoping to land a table on the patio. Alas, when we arrived at 5:50pm (for our 6 pm reservation), the patio was full, and so, after some back-and-forth about wanting a table in the dining room and not a high-top at the bar, we were seated. The vibe was odd, perhaps because we were the only ones in the seating area but also because of the decor, layout, and furniture: not quite fancy, not quite charming. Rather than warmth and graciousness, I felt like we were imposing on the team by showing up for dinner. Undaunted, we pressed on. Shortly, we were greeted by a friendly team member who answered some questions. We eventually ordered the made-to-order guac and margaritas. The guac was the highlight of the evening. It was fresh, generous, and well-presented. The margaritas were also good. No complaints! Next, we placed our order: meat tacos for me, a burrito dish for my wife, and a shared order of the corn dish. The orders came in good time, all except for the corn. When we asked about it, the reply was "oh, so you'd like to add corn?" "No!" I said. "We'll just take the one we already ordered!!" During this light-hearted exchange, we were also promised an additional side of chips to go with the abundant guac. "Three minutes" was the reply. Never came. The entrees were universally too spicy. I love spicy food, but this level of spice obliterates what I think was a really lovely set of dishes. My wife and I both struggled to get through it because of the heat. Sadly, the team's stinginess with refilling water only added to the spice experience. The makeup corn order was promised "in three minutes" and did arrive in five or six. It's a lovely companion dish, even though timing caused an odd imbalance of food temps. When it was time to settle up, our team member told us she would package up the leftovers and would be back "in three minutes with the bill" because she was also tending the patio. By then, I asked, "is that three minutes or fifteen?!" She returned promptly; we paid the bill and headed to the VAD courtyard for live music. Bottom line: great location and intriguing concept. Something is amiss with the training and team support. As for the food, only the guac and margarita would draw me back.

The restaurant is large and open with a nice bar area with ample seating. Very vibrant and colorful. Everything was excellent. The server brought a basket of warm tortilla chips and a large bowl of salsa to our table. I ordered the Pollo Costeño with spanish rice on the side. It was a flat grilled chicken breast topped with bacon, cheese, and pineapple, such an outstanding combination of flavors. The sweet pineapple with the savory bacon and melted cheese worked so well together. It was slightly salty for my personal taste, but overall still very good. It came with guacamole, tomato, and lettuce on the side. I would've loved if it included flour tortillas to turn it into a wrap, but that's just a personal preference. My husband ordered the fajita burrito, and it was huge! He absolutely loved it and said it was packed with flavor. It was so big he even had leftovers to bring home. One of my sons ordered the tamale with rice and black beans combo, and my other son kept it simple with two à la carte bean burritos with queso cheese on top served with refried beans and Spanish rice on the side. Overall, it was a great family dinner with flavorful food and generous portions. We all took leftovers home. We'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

Wow, this place was really good!…read more I met a friend for brunch in Ohio City, and the place we planned to go had a 45 minute wait, so we went for a walk and to see what else was open. Johnny Mango was open, and had plenty of tables at 10:30, but had filled up by the time we left. My friend sold me on the place as a Mexican restaurant, but it isn't that. The food is fresh and healthy, with creative options, and an intriguing juice bar! Because my friend had been there, I just duplicated her order - chicken and black bean quesadilla, with avocado. We got the Big Plate to try the sides. Wow. The quesadilla is stuffed, but not super cheesy, which until now, I didn't know was an option. The tortilla is cooked so that it crisps up, and looked too big to finish, but I was wrong. Sides today were Jasmine rice and the Happy Beans, which were cannelini beans today. They were so good! and a slaw that was great! I had coffee and a fizzy mango lime spritz juice that wasn't too sweet but tasted great. I wouldn't mind coming back to try some of their Big Plates - the chicken dishes look intriguing, and some of the apps looked pretty good too! They also have a rotating margarita section....

The menu is vast with a lot of vegetarian options. I would say the items are pretty hit or miss -- I ordered the pad Thai as it was one of the most popular items, but I found it to be pretty dry and bland. My friend ordered the jerk chicken and said it was delicious. My boyfriend got the burrito and said it was very plain and nothing to write home about. I would highly recommend asking the staff what their favorites are, since they are likely to steer you in the right direction. I like that they offer fresh-squeezed juices - they have a juicer at the counter that you can see them use in real time. However the juicer does look kind of dirty... Lastly, when we went, there were only two people in the kitchen and one waitress managing the entire restaurant, which made service a bit slow. Keep that in mind if you're in a time crunch!

The batter was crispy and flavorful while the chicken remained moist. It was seasoned so well inside and out. Skip the French fries and get the fried plantains. The French fries need a little work, mine were a bit soggy and bland BUT the plantains were such a nice juxtaposition to the salty fried chicken it was perfect. You get a small piece of cornbread which was just subtly sweet and then forward with the corn flavor. As well as a cup of Cole slaw which was good too! The crab empanada was delicious, it had a similar seasoning to the chicken. I wish I got a bit more filling but I do think for less than $6 it was still good value and very very tasty.
