FOOD: We both ordered pork empanadillas. They were good but the meat felt too soupy. I also ordered guava empanadilla. I liked the guava filling but felt that the dough felt too fried/oily. Portions were generous in terms of empanada size. I want to sing praises to Tropical Coco (Coconut Soda). It was the perfect hint of coconut and subtle sweetness. My friend and I decided to find and order this soda somewhere. SERVICE: More pleasant than it should be at a food trucks. Great hospitality. We were even called by our first names. Service was also quite quick. VALUE: The menu goes up to $16. Most items are priced at $12. $6 per piece is a bit pricey for empanadas compared to local restaurants but this was also event pricing. I'd visit Island City again. Next time I'd like to taste Island Sandwich. Another coconut soda for me of course as well!!!

The place itself is tucked away into Lakewood and offers a great atmosphere with an indoor/outdoor flow. The ambiance is nice, they have good music playing in the background not too loud and not too quiet. We went in the evening, so all the lights were turned on which made the experience enjoyable. All the food was really flavorful, and they had a ton of options for cocktails. The complimentary sauces are phenomenal and definitely take the dishes to the next level! Unfortunately, we had to wait over an hour for our food to come out and despite being told appetizers would be quick they took awhile. Server was kind and apologetic and explained they had a new training chef although it felt others around us were getting their food. I do wish they would have given us a complimentary appetizer or made one free of charge as the wait total was almost 1.5 hours. Overall, this place is a really great stop and I'm glad to have it nearby. I have heard the service and speed is usually efficient so maybe this was just a one night thing. Definitely stop in as they have a large menu with bold flavor and a great atmosphere.

This place is worth the visit. 1st time: Our waitress was Janayla. It's the first time we have ever seen her, she is new. What a great addition to the team. She was so professional, respectful and you can really see she loves working with people, all smiles, very attentive and helpful. 2nd time: We are on our way to visit family, we asked if they wanted something to eat. We sent them a link to their website menu, and they texted their order. This time we ordered front in the front. Wilson one of the owners was taking our order. That man gets dressed with patience in his sleeves... lol. He was so good to us as we were trying to get everyone's orders right. 3rd time: Today August 22, 2026 - My husband asked me what do you want for lunch as we were driving back from Ukraine Parade in Parma. I said nothing, not hungry. He said what about Tropical Bay! He knew I would change my mind. This time Joelys took care of us. She's been there ever since we started going. Wonderful young lady and I know she's been rightfully going up the ranks at the restaurant and given more responsibility. She does a great job! Already knows what I order and all the intricacies. She's always happy to see the customers. Through every visit if the owners are there, especially Diana she makes it a point to come see us and takes a few minutes to say hello. They are salt to this earth wonderful, hardworking people. My favorite: Fried Pork with Tostones - I love all their food but I'm Latina so I make all these foods, I don't make the pork bites and tostones. These are melt in your mouth. My husbands: Tri Fongo with Shrimp, Cuban Rice, Rice and Bean The food I took my guest that they loved, Beef Pastelillos/Empanadas, Dominican Chicken, Butter Chicken, Puerto Rican Rice and Beans The place looks so cute and celebratory. Music playing, the Tropical Feeling, it's so nice. You will not be disappointed. I have severe food allergies and this is the only place I trust with my life.

For food, we shared two appetizers and honestly could have made a meal out of them. The Dominican Flag was incredible: crispy fried plantains, perfectly melty fried cheese, Dominican salami and smoky longaniza, all topped with pickled red onions that added the perfect zing. Every bite was packed with flavor and felt like true comfort food. We also loved the Loaded Yuca Balls; crispy golden yuca stuffed with cheese and topped with roasted pineapple, jalapeños, sour cream, and bacon. The combination of sweet, spicy, cheesy, and savory was amazing. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was great. We'll definitely be back to try more from the menu!

It has a nice outer crunch and is well seasoned but not overwhelming with it. You can see the cracked pepper on the skin. It's juicy and cooked well. I do prefer a more cruncher skin however, but this is preference. Chicken alone is a 9/10. This may be controversial but Cole slaw is FIRE to me lol. I consider myself a slaw connoisseur. I enjoy it with numerous meals and meats. The slaw here is yummy. Nice crunch of cabbage and carrot. Mayo base and the perfect ratio of mayo and cabbage 10/10. Every group has a weak link and that is the fries. They were hard. They are shoestring fries and it can be easy to over cook this style of fry. Next time I will opt for another side option 1/10. The cornbread was ok but flavor wise was different and delicious. When I took a bite of this cornbread, my whole mouth dried. It literally sucked all the moisture from me . However, the flavor is vanilla cake like and just delicious 4/10. I also ordered a beverage called Morir Sonando. This is a Dominican beverage that typically consists of oranges, sugar, milk and ice. A beverage I am a fan of. For those foreign to Morir Sonando, it is very reminiscent of Dairy Queen's orange julius, except way less sweet and less thick. This drink is no short of amazing 10/10. Refreshing. Beef empanadas. Delicious. Get them. Get a side of the sauce 11/10. Lastly, I ordered the tres leches cake (3 milk cake). Perfection at its finest. When you're craving tres leches cake, you want THIS. Upon walking in for pick up, Pica Pollo West was very clean. Which makes my likely hood of returning anywhere higher. The service was average. Nothing worth noting. I will return. I want to try their fish next!
