Like the other reviews below, I too had reservations after reading some of the posts on yelp. In the end I decided to take a chance with Dr. Liu because of my severe dry eye complication. All I care is would he provides good suggestion for my eye-sight? Am I able to wear contact lenses again for outdoor activities? Should I use progressive lens or mono vision for my glasses when i am driving and working in front of a computer or reading a book. Trust Me, I had visited 5 Ophthalmologists (MD) and 2 optometrists (OD) witin the past 2 years trying to improve my dry eye issues. After my first visit and a follow up visit. I haven't gone to have my eyes checked in over 10 years and I originally was interested in getting color eye contacts just for fun . I decided to give this office a try since I saw good reviews on yelp. I am so glad I did . Dr. Lui is so knowledgable, nice and very patient . He answered all my questions and concerns . He also suggested based in my eyes exam that it would help to get some low grade prescription glasses since Im farsighted and it would help me see better while working on my computer . His staff is no nice and helpful . Monique was so nice, helpful & patient . She helped me pick a nice fashionable eye glass frame that fit my face so well . I am so glad I got my glasses the doctor suggested because I see so much better now and I don't strain my eyes at all when reading . Dr also gave me some samples of color eyes contacts to try to see which color I liked and I chose gemstone green . It looks so natural not fake . I ordered my contacts and will be getting soon . Fabulous! I originally had to find a different optometrist to go to and this one caught my eye due to positive reviews and its proximity to my home. I'm glad too! They greeted me friendly as soon as I walked in...or more like stumbled in (my clumsy self tripped on the rug a bit walking in)! But they made me feel no embarrassment with their great attitudes! The doctor is nice, makes me feel comfortable, and I look forward to making any future appointments with them! This was a great experience for my first pair of glasses ever! I highly recommend this location. Their glasses selection is amazing as well. I THINK I saw some glittering gold Versace eyeglasses, but I'm not sure! One of the reps., Monique, is so nice! She helped me try on glasses and I swear every single pair she handed me was beautiful! She's a great rep.! I finally decided on a pair that I'm very pleased with. As far as pricing...my aunt once suggested the place that she takes her kids to that had inexpensive exams and glasses..but they broke every other week so it ended up being a pretty poor investment on her part. This location is pretty affordable ($80 for exam) in my opinion especially for the services provided and the positive setting. If you want to avoid making a bad investment in cheap glasses, I don't recommend it! As far as I know, "cheap glasses" here means ones for $100 or less. They will break. I recommend spending a little more for longer lasting eyewear! My total expenditures came out to be $445 total (exam, prescription, etc) but I was able to pay half today and the other later on. The pair I got are designer, sturdy, metal, and flexible so they'll for sure last long! Especially since I only need wear them for driving and lectures. I found Dr. Tim Liu after reading all of the positive Yelp! reviews, and I can see that my family and I will be clients for keeps! This is my 3rd year coming here and what can I say, I always have the best experience when I come here. I actually look forward to my annual check-ups now. The girls here are so sweet and kind. They make you feel welcomed and comfortable the moment you walk in. They get you in to see the Dr. at a reasonable time. I've never waited more then 10 minutes to go in and see the doctor. My experience with Dr. Lui is always great. He is very thorough with the exam. If you are like me and ask a lot of questions, he is really paient and actually takes the time to explain everything to you step by step. I also love the fact that he actually cares about his clients, I was prescribed eyedrops because of my allergies, Dr.Lui explained to me if my insurance didn't cover the prescription to have the pharmacy call the office to get a different prescription to avoid any out of pocket expenses. Once you are done with the exam comes the fun part, choosing out your frame. Rosie and Meena are awesome. They take customer service to another level. It's not like other offices where they just want you to pick a frame to get you out as fast as they can. If you are like me and are really undecicive when it comes to choosing a frame they make it so easy for you. They ask you what styles you're looking for or what they think would look good on you and start pulling frames for you to try on. They genuinely want to help you find a frame that fits you best. They aren't uninterested and pushy when it comes to helping you like other offices. They are patient and let you take your time in making the right decision. They have a variety of frames and brands to choose from. From Ray-Ban to higher end brands like Gucci, Tiffany's, Versace, Burberry and many more brands. I've been wearing glasses for 10+years so I've been to a lot of offices but this one is by far the best optometrist office I've EVER been to and I can't wait to go back next year!! read more

Although Doctor Liu is awesome and the two young girls are sweet the office manager is horrible . I had gone in a few months ago and got some glasses for reading. Well one day when I was in the garage I was wearing my glasses and the handle just broke off and my glasses fell . So I called the the office and they told me to bring them in , so I did and it was obvious that the glasses were defected so the young girl told me I will send them back to the manufacture so they can be fix but their is a 20 dollar charge from that company I question her and said that doesn't make sense I am returning it because it's defected and I still have to pay for them to ship it back to you guys and she reply back by saying yes . So I left my glasses to get fix . Two in a half weeks passed and they never called me so I called them and they told me oh yes your glasses are in then the girl told me again there is a 20 dollar charge so I told her can I have that companies phone number she wouldn't give it to me so I told her can u please have the manger call me she said yes . I waited all day for a phone call back and never got one . So the next day I went into the office and the manager was sitting behind her desk . I was already upset that they had no common courtesy to call me and I reminded her that I was waiting for a call back from her she had the nerve to tell me oh I was busy and I looked at her and told her so you couldn't call me this morning as the office had no one in she just looked at me . So again I told her I don't understand why this company is charging me a 20 for something that was sold to me already defected and she said that is their policy and I looked at her and told her really that's strange since u guys wouldn't give me the number to the company I looked them up and got their number and called them and they said they have no policy like that and if they do charge u please call us back and fax us the invoice of the charge of them charging you so I told her I will need that invoice with that charge in it so the company sees it you can tell she didn't like what I was telling her so she told me yes I will give it to you once I process the payment . Once she gave me the invoice I told her this is from your store not the company she told me yes it's us that charge you . I told her you and your staff from the beginning have said it was the company not the office . ( which I always knew it was them because eye glasses company never charge ) that's why there was no call back to me . She said all optometrist charge I said no they don't I was with DR. Boyer in La verne for years and that never charged when something went wrong with our eyeglasses she had the nerve to talk bad about Doctor Boyers office really u have to sink that low and talk about another doctors office that's not nice to do . She was just pissed because I knew they were lying . It not about the 20 dollars it's how they went about it to try to cover up and blame someone else when they get called on it . Just because we live in La Verne doesn't mean you can rip people off . The manager had poor customer service and has no people skills . As a long time contacts wearer, I am very picky about my eye doctor. After relocating back to the area, I needed a new optometrist and decided to check Utopia out. I had a great experience from start to finish. The doctor took his time in the exam and made sure all my questions and concerns were addressed. Even when I came back after my appointment because I felt one eye was still blurry, the doctor rechecked everything and adjusted my prescription no problem! When it came to choosing my contacts and glasses, the girls in the front were incredibly helpful and broke down all the pricing and specials to make sure I was getting the best deal possible. Good Doctor. Good karma. In town for the Rose Bowl only to realize my young son had forgotten to pack his contacts. A very gregarious Melissa took my call to ask if Dr. Liu would help us out with a couple pairs of samples. Even knowing we weren't potential patients Dr. Liu was wiling to come through for us. (Now, did it help that we conveniently omit the fact that we were a bunch of Stanford Cardinal fans? Probably. Dr. Liu is a proud grad of UC Berkeley's School of Optometry. ) In the end, we secured the contacts from another venue but what wonderful Southern Cal goodwill ambassadors Utopia Optometry has made itself. I was visiting friend in this neighborhood and noticed Utopia optometry on my way home so decided to give a try. Dr. Liu was professional and friendly when giving me the eye exam. And because they carry lots of collections, I am glad that the manager Emily was being very helpful and patient for suggestions.
