We made a stop here on our last day in NYC, just a short walk from our hotel, and it turned into the perfect final food memory of the trip. I had the French toast bagel with bacon, egg, cheese, and hashbrown, and it was outstanding. The bagel itself was perfectly chewy, and the combination of sweet and savory worked surprisingly well together. It was one of those sandwiches that feels indulgent but still completely balanced. Before leaving, I also picked up a dozen bagels to take home and somehow managed to pack them into my suitcase. After freezing and toasting them later, they held up incredibly well--still tasting fresh and satisfying, which says a lot about the quality. A simple stop, but an unforgettable one for a very NYC way to end the trip.
Clearly the place is popular with locals, hectic foot traffic (all the tables taken) and brisk food delivery service. I had the Citi Fielder which was turkey, cheese, avocado, etc on a sesame bagel. The overall experience was ho hum. The bagel was ok (I'll stick with Tompkins Square), the turkey and cheese were folded into a mass which resulted in unequal distribution, and it overall would have benefited from a little salt. If I lived here, I wouldn't go back.
For what it's worth it's the items I ordered from Utopia Bagels were good, but when you end up paying $18 for a breakfast sandwich and latte, can the price really be justified? I ordered a vegan sausage, egg and cheese on everything bagel and almond milk latte. The bagel was average sized and for the price I imagined it would actually be a decent size. It tasted good despite my disappointment in the portions. The latte was good as well. The staff works hard! The shop was pretty busy for late morning. My order didn't take long to be made and all the staff I spoke to were friendly. The seating area leaves a little to be desired since the shop is so busy you'd wonder why they didn't design it to have more seating. I guess they're use to people grabbing their orders and leaving. I was grabbing breakfast before an appointment so I definitely needed to sit and eat. Luckily I caught the last open table by the exit, before I ended up leaving the shop. I ate quickly since I felt like occupying a table for longer than needed was unfair to anyone else in a similar situation. I recommend coming if you don't mind the prices and taking your order to go.
probably the messiest bagel I've ever had, and I mean that in the best way - here we have an egg bagel with a sunny side up egg, jalapeno cream cheese, and turkey sausage. I asked for ketchup, thinking they'd throw a few packets in the bag, and they slathered that on too. it somehow worked. very well. - the egg was perfectly sunny side up and drenched the entire bagel. it blew all the ~oddly square factory energy~ eggs many bagel places use out of the water - the cream cheese was melting under the toasted bagel. it was more crunchy from the jalapeños than spicy. the serving size of it was wonderful - the bagel itself was a great size and chewy as it should be. the outside which should have that New York bagel hardness was the same consistency of the rest (even while toasted) which was a bummer
Yummy! Really enjoyed the egg salad and wheat bagel with matcha. I came on a Saturday around 2/3 and the place was packed, but I didn't have to wait too long in the service was pretty fast. My drink came out first and I was honestly really impressed with how good the Matcha is. Heads up, It is sweetened. There was not really anywhere to sit, but it was just me so I was able to squeeze in at the counter near the window, but it might be hard to get a seat if you have a group. Prices were pretty decent and I enjoyed everything will definitely come back to try some of the other bagels and drinks.
Happened to be in the neighborhood and popped in for breakfast. I ordered the spinach feta egg white breakfast platter which comes with home fries and the choice of a bagel or toast on the side. As a heads up, the only option they had for toast was sourdough but you can ask for it to be toasted with a spread of butter. Overall, the dish was okay, although I was not particularly wowed by it. The egg white omelette was decent in taste, but it felt like there were more home fries than omelette lol! The home fries were nice - thinly sliced potatoes, with slices of green bell pepper. The service was good; I did not wait too long. The place was packed when I went (around 10am on a weekday), meaning there were no seats. So, waiting for the food gave me time to wait for a seat :) I like the ambience. There are a good number of outlets and a bathroom so I could see this being a good work spot. The music was catchy. A good selection of pop! Overall, the place gets the job done. 1) Food variety is good. They even have vegan options! 2) Affordable for the area ($12.95 for my breakfast platter). 3) And great location! I'll have to try the bagels next time!
Great bagels and a fun, customizable menu! The olive cream cheese was a standout- super flavorful and something a little different. I also tried the vegan burrito, which had good flavor but was on the smaller side and a bit dry. I love how many options they offer and that you can really build your own bagel exactly how you want it. As for drinks, the cold brew was solid, but the cappuccino didn't quite hit the mark for me.
Three locations and nationwide shipping for bagels made "the old fashioned way." This location in Queens is their original, founded in 1981. My Everything was chewy but not tough, toasted and satisfying to encircle a stacked Hawaiian (ham, melty Swiss, fresh avocado, and chipotle mayo) - hitting all the right notes. An absolute delight upon arrival to be greeted by smiling faces, fast service, and hot food that comforts like mom-made.
DOOOOO NOT GET THE LEX!!! There was WAY too much mustard i literally couldn't finish it. The bacon egg and cheese was ok. We ordered for pickup so maybe if u get it super super fresh it's better? But both the bagel itself and the sandwiches were mid or subpar. You're in New York, there's probably a better bagel. I've had better bagels in London this was actually so sad for me
Solid 4 stars. I haven't had good luck with finding bagels that aren't super chewy. On our last day in NYC, we walked a ways to Utopia bagels. It was busy but the staff seemed to manage it well like clockwork. We ordered the everything bagel with jalapeño cucumber cream cheese and ate it onsite. Just like the pizza, you have to eat the bagel then and there for the best taste and texture. The everything bagel was crispy, airy, and seasoned just right. The cream cheese was light, tangy, and fresh from the cucumbers. The combination overall was delicious. I devoured that bagel in minutes. So good. I'll definitely be back when I'm in NYC and in the area.
Best quality lox Ive ever had in a bagel (The Worth It bagel). The bite of the bread was perfectly chewy on the inside with a nice outside. The Bacon egg and cheese bagel was a bit dry unfortunately, feel like it needs a shmeer or aioli, doused it in hot sauce. They've got a great selection of fresh juices to choose from along with coffee. Seating wise wasn't a super friendly cafe, more of a grab and go situation (though be prepared for a line). read more
Bagel was strangely very thin and then super crunchy because they toasted it but the bagel is too thin to be toasted perfectly. I didn't mind it but I've never had such a crunchy bagel. The ratio of toppings and salmon on the worth it was good. Salmon was a bit flavorless. Overall don't know what the hype is about but I did like it. read more

Quick service. Great cold brew (no milk or sugar necessary). A delectable vegan bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich! Best vegan breakfast sandwich I've had since Luhv Vegan Deli in Philadelphia. My partner got the sausage, egg, cheese on a jalapeño cheddar bagel and was underwhelmed, preferring the breakfast sandwich from The Bagel Cafe in Manchester, NH. NYC bagels might not be for him. He was overwhelmed by the heaping serving of eggs though! Shop is handicapped-accessible, though an automatic door would be helpful (push button sort, not the kind one finds at a supermarket). Limited seating. They offer two gluten-free bagels: plain and everything. Various tofu-based "cream cheeses" are available. read more

Hit up utopia for breakfast both days. They move the line quick but online ordering was seamless! Got a bacon, egg and cheese both days with different bagels. We managed to snag a table on Saturday am, which was quite the feat. read more

I went around brunch time and it was already pretty packed inside by the line went by pretty quickly. The bagels were also made pretty quickly considering the amount of people. There are plenty of seating inside but it may get filled up depending on the time of day. There are great options for custom bagels or sandwiches. I got the lox with scallion cream cheese on an everything. The bagel was fluffy and there was a good amount of lox, but I couldn't taste the scallion flavor. Overall, it was a good bagel and I would come back to try different options. read more
It was a fine bagel but a bit overrated. Busy but service was super quick- the line was out the door but we ordered and got our food within 15-20 min. Everything bagel was seasoned well, had a crispy exterior, but was kind of gummy and chewy inside. They were generous with the cream cheese but the lox spread could have used a bit more lox, it mostly just tasted salty. Plenty of seating, you may have to hover to get a table for a large group. read more
Superb bagels! They were fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside, which to me makes the perfect bagel. I got the sesame (toasted) with nova spread, which I would recommend. There's some limited seating inside, so be prepared to take your bagel elsewhere to eat if it's too busy. Would definitely be coming back. read more
I went to New York for a month in July on a mission to find the best bagels in the mainland. Utopia Bagels was the first place I went. I got 2 bagels- blueberry cream cheese on a poppyseed bagel, and bacon scallion on a rosemary bagel. I also grabbed one of their $10 orange juices. Was it bad? Not at all. It was a nice shop, places to sit, fine service. They were decent bagels. But if a friend of mine asked me where they could find the best bagels in NY, utopia wouldn't really be on my list. read more
This place is legit. So many schmear choices and the bagels are handmade. The staff are extremely helpful and it is easy to build your own if you don't see a menu item that you want. The service is fast and efficient and the bagels are delicious and a perfect size. I was so hungry I forgot to take so hot until I was almost finished! read more
Utopia Bagels has always been on my list for NYC because of the selection of delicious cream cheese and fresh bagels. They're conveniently located and are always busy, however, you can always expect great and fast service. While there's not much sitting inside, it's just as good to take your bagel to go! This was on the top of my list to visit after seeing them be featured on so many YT foodies I follow. I dropped in before a Broadway matinee that I got tickets for last minute. It was lunch rush so there was a buttload of people inside. Being a creature of habit, I got myself a bacon, egg & cheese on a everything bagel. There were no seats available and I was about to make my way out to eat my order outside when I saw an empty seat in the corner that happened to be free. There was a family of 3 that took over a table for 4 so I invited myself over to their party. Luckily, they obliged. Turns out they were my neighbors. Well, they happen to also be from SoCal, Anaheim to be specific. I ended up talking to the mom the whole time. We bonded over how shitty the bagels are back home. I ended up sharing some of my food with her cos she was eyeing it like she wanted some. What a pleasant time. I'm dropping by before I go back home. read more

Fluffy bagels with a fun variety of flavors including french toast. I didn't quite like the sandwich I got as the sauce soaked into the bagel ruining the whole premise of a fluffy bagel, but my fiance got a bagel with typical cream cheese and lox and THAT was delicious. The french toast flavor wasn't strong but it was slightly apparent in the bagel. I'll def be back to try their other flavors with cream cheese instead of sandwich form! read more

As a New Yorker, you would think that I would eat more bagels but I really don't. For me, I just think that I could buy some bagels from Too Good to Go and make my own spread for a lot cheaper. Either way, it's always a special day when I eat a bagel. Met some friends here and it was delicious. Honestly, the biggest pro was that they had a menu which most bagel shops don't. I like to experiment with my bagel order so it was great for them to give me more options to play with. I ordered a Whitefish Salad on Toasted Onion Bagel and it was delicious. The salad was refreshing but also had a strong fish flavor which I loved. Also, I need to order onion bagels more often because I loved the crispiness of the onion flakes on the bagel, which paired very well with the whitefish. I will say that this isn't the best bagel I ever had but the combination was great. Will definitely be back if ever in the area! read more

A spacious and clean bagel store. Plenty of seatings. A lot of options of schmears. You can see how they make the bagels as soon as you enter. Service was fast, I got my order right away. It has some chewiness and the outside has a good crust read more

Utopia Bagel truly lives up to its name! SERVICE - The ordering process was simple--just place your order at the counter and wait for your name to be called. FOOD - I opted for the everything bagel with cream cheese, and it exceeded all my expectations. The bagel was incredibly fluffy, with that perfect slight crunch on the outside that makes a New York bagel so iconic. The generous amount of cream cheese was a surprise--none of that thin layer nonsense here! It was everything I imagined a New York bagel to be and more. read more
Delish! I would expect nothing else. The bagels were really good and nice and fresh. We walked in to a long line and lots of people which was a good sign that they are popular. They had a system and service moved quickly. I got a plain bagel with scallion cream cheese! We got lucky and found a seat! I would definitely go back! read more
The bagles are good. But the spreads are not as good as they were. And now the guys giving you the orders are not so nice and don't seem to really know what they are doing. When the owners were here it was much better. Just ordered a bagel and and toasted garlic with jalapeño cream cheese and I saw it was ready so I asked the guy if it was ready he took one look at what came out that had my name on it and he said no. I asked about it a few more times finally someone with better eyes or a better brain saw my order and gave it to me. Rather than appolizing the guy who messed up was very rude to me. Unfortunately I won't be coming in here again. read more

Excellent bagels, lots of vegan options and fast service. My husband and I visit NYC at least once a year and we're always trying bagels of course. This was recommended by a friend who grew up on Long Island so we checked it out on this trip. Lots of seeds and toppings on the everything bagel and on both sides which is key. Lots of breakfast sandwich options including animal-free. If youre never tried a vegan egg& cheese breakfast sandwich - trust me you wont taste a difference. Some place I'll admit dont do it right but this place does hence the 5th star. Definitely top 5 bagel places. I still like a couple other on the UWS better. read more

Delicious bagels! Honestly, I've had better NYC bagels but this place offered a variety of delicious bagels. It's hard to compare. Service was excellent- quick & efficient despite the fact that it was lunch time. Clean environment. I was impressed how efficient the staff worked to get everyone's order ready even after some of these are custom orders. I had the Nova bagel (everything bagel) with scallion cream cheese. 10/10 read more

Opens at 6am, early compared to other nearby bagel spots, with lots of seating and fast service. Ordered a BEC on everything and was fairly cold and then ordered the hobo on everything but came on a plain bagel. Got two coffees, a cold brew and an iced vanilla latte. HORRIBLE coffee! Cold brew tasted old and sour (coming from an ex barista) and the vanilla latte looked like an iced americano with mocha and a splash of milk. They had plenty of staff and the store was somewhat empty, so there's really no excuse for how poorly everything was executed. read more

Got the breakfast platter with many eggs, breakfast potato's and a bagel for $12! A deal for the city! Has a great sitting area as well and food came out SO quickly even on a Sunday morning read more

Here for the bagels! What I got a couple of bagels. I got the Nova Tofu CC on a Rye. The bagel was great, the nova wasn't for me... So I ended up getting a Rainbow bagel with strawberry tofu CC. This was really food but I was full from the first bagel! I am a little bummed that it wasn't toasted though, didn't know that I needed to request it (yes, not a NY regular). I also got a couple of bagels to go and these were delicious as well. I am definitely more a fan of sweet bagels. Enrionment This was located right off 34th. The inside is quite big, there are quite a number of seating available but it def seemed like a more take out place. Niceness of the staff Patient enough staff even when they were a bit busy, but bummed that I wasn't asked if I wanted to get my bagel toasted... Dollar The rainbow bagel was surprising a premium.. the other bagels were $2. My Nova CC was $12 and the CC bagel was $6. Yes? I would give it another shot. read more

The bagel and cream cheese here were good, but I was a little disappointed they didn't put powdered sugar on the French toast bagel as advertised. The line was long but it went by pretty quickly and the people working were very helpful. It's hard to get a seat, but we managed to and it was a pretty nice ambiance. read more
