I was using AI to track my mother health care. Claude was very helpful in understanding what was going on. I was able to ask the right question for the doctor. My mother had been detoxing and she has heart failure and kidney failure. I was extremely concerned with her being in hospice rather than getting the correct medical treatment. No one would listen to me. My mother has survived being put on hospice now four time. A security guard with the name Eric demanded that I delete the pictures and audio recordings of my mother health care or be barred for 24 hours. I said, No! I'm deleting anything from my phone. i asked to file a complaint with Sheila, my mothers patient advocate. Sheila demanded that I must delete the recording and pictures as well. I said no! Three days had passed so i was in the hospital and Juan the security guard pulled me from my dying mothers room and demanded that I was criminally trespassing and I not be on the property for 365 days now. I was escorted from the property like I was a criminal. The entire time my mother was in the hospital she was not getting the right care, I was forced from the hospital by security guards that my mother was in. Juan, Sheila and Eric destroyed what could have been something special to be able to spend the last days with my dying mother. Instead our family will always have the memory of Juan, Eric and Sheila enforcing a policy the hospital does not have just to prove their authority over common citizens such as myself. Dutung the two week period I begged over and over please show me this policy that says an individual can be criminally trespass from the property for not deleting a picture. Sheila explained to me that all policy are internal and can be given to anyone. How can a hospital security team enforce a policy that is not shared publicly due to internal policy? I went twice in two days as large amounts of dark green puss was coming out of both my breasts and I was blacking in and out from the pain. Both male doctors told me this was completely normal, nothing to be alarmed about, did drug tests, gave me drugs, told me I was overreacting and sent me home on antibiotics with a follow up with Dr. Garry who told me I pulled a muscle in my back and that's why copious amounts of dark green puss was coming out of both breasts and I was in so much pain I was blacking out and my body still feels like it's on fire. I was not a patient here myself, but a family member was-and I had the opportunity to visit and see firsthand how the staff at Utah Valley Hospital took care of her. It was a great experience and I'd not hesitate to come here myself if needed. The facilities are all very well maintained and clean-which you'd expect from a hospital, but I've seen some that are subpar. Not this one-it's great. The staff was also very accommodating and friendly. They kept us updated during the surgery and after, until we were united again with the family member. There was one small mishap that made us laugh-we were told that she would be brought to a specific room and that we could go wait there. So we made ourselves comfortable in that hospital room watching TV, laying on the couch and using the restroom-only to find out a while later that she had been taken to another room instead. I went to the emergency room for chest pain I've had open heart surgery 4 years ago so I know chest pain they immediately took me back started an IV Drew blood then I received a text from the front desk asking me if I could complete my online check in via phone they would send me a link so I said send it because I'm waiting to see the Dr they sent me an invoice saying my co-pay was $125. and my remaining balance was $8572.00 well heart rate and BP went sky high! I let the Dr and the nurses know they were flabbergasted the Dr said they have no idea what we are even doing back here. I tried to contact a hospital administrator after that but was told I wasn't allowed to speak with them directly sent me to an advocate line where the lady said she had no record of my visit to the ER interesting she said at the end of our call there would be a survey then she hung up on me! After experiencing horrible care at a different hospital, it was nice to come to a place and feel like I was cared for and what I was saying was being taking seriously. There was a problem and it wasn't in my head and me being extreme. They took the time to listen to me, treat me like a person who had a serious issue and did something about it. I appreciate it very much because the prior hospital didn't take anything serious and basically just threw me out and treated me very poorly. Treated me like I wasn't a person who had a problem and didn't listen. Didn't treat me like a patient should be treated. Every time I come to this hospital it is always a positive experience. My late grandma had a stroke in her hometown and she was life flighted here. While she was there, the staff took very good care of her and it put my grandpa and relatives at ease. She was released a few days later, but she died shortly after. I wanted to extend my thanks to the staff for being positive, in good spirits, and helping my grandma and grandpa in their time of need. read more

Not going back to this Hospital. We had a terrible experience at the emergency room due to the actions of one particular doctor. Despite clear and concerning readings on the monitor, that aligned with seizure like activity this doctor disregarded the results and treated my wife as if she was overreacting. They spoke to her in a condescending and belittling manner, making her feel like she was being dismissed and not taken seriously. Throughout her time in the ER, we tried to express our concerns and explain her symptoms, but this doctor ignored us completely, choosing instead to rely solely on their own assumption without taking any real effort to understand my wife's condition. Their bedside manner was extremely unprofessional and left my wife feeling mistreated and disrespected. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone, as their disregard for patient care and well-being is unacceptable. If you value your health and expect to be treated with respect and dignity during a medical emergency, I would advise finding a different hospital or provider. read more

I had my first baby in February 2023. I had a cute baby girl. I got induced and everything went smoothly. They didn't induce me until the afternoon and I ended up having my baby the next day just after midnight. Dr. Rees delivered my baby. I had a second degree episiotomy, he had to use forceps and I had a 3rd degree tear. It was a bit rough. I'm glad I got the epidural because I felt none of it. One complaint i have is after my baby was born, they turned my epidural off so quick. Then they come push on your stomach after which I had no clue they did that since this was my first baby. It was so dang painful. I wish they would have just left my epidural on during that. Next baby I'm hoping I can request that they do that because it was awful. Worst pain I've ever felt. The recovery was bad but the postpartum nurses were awesome. They check on you often, but a little too often. After having a baby you just want to sleep. When I left the hospital, they made me walk out too. I thought they normally push you out in a wheelchair. read more

I am rating the hospital's valet service today. My husband has been been in the hospital for a week and I come and visit every day and they've been so good and helpful and kind and only one other time did I leave after hours but on the valet slip they give me they have an after hours number that you can call which I have done before and that is what I did tonight I was told to call the ER valet and they would help me. it took a long time to finally get someone to help me and when I did, they gave me my keys and a map and told me where to go find my car which I didn't have to do that last time. It was freezing cold outside. I wandered all over the parking lot, pushing the button on my car, listening for it to beep and I could not find my car and I kept wandering and wandering, and I was getting more frustrated finally, in the far distance, I heard a beep, and my car was parked in front of the drop off pick up area at the front of the hospital. I was so disappointed and the map they had given me to find my car was hooked to my keys , so I'm not sure what happened, but obviously somebody had been in my car because my seat was pushed back so needless to say I was very disappointed with the service I received tonight and if I was even an older lady. This would've not been convenient for her and as hard as it is for me to walk too much, I managed but someone else may not have managed as well And the tenant just handed me my keys and told me they don't allow security to get your car but security was able to get my car earlier in the week after hours. And also, I must make a note of the valet card that they give you doesn't say on there anywhere that after hours you will have to go and find your own car. read more

Was visiting Utah during a cross country road trip from North Carolina when in the middle of the night kidney pain hit me like a ton of bricks. I ended up going to the ER after about 6 hours of pain. Was taken care of quickly, iv in, medications administered all within a few minutes. Everyone was so incredibly kind and kept me up to date on what we were waiting on and what the next step would be. Hospital stays are not on the top item of most people's bucket lists, but when it is inevitable that you must stay the night at one, you have to seek out the best, right? Well, I was super nervous about having my surgery at UVH because of the negative things I've heard about it, however, I was VERY impressed with the new Peterson Tower! My stay was much more pleasant and actually I'd venture out to say "enjoyable". I credit the nursing staff, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and even my surgeon. I was also quite happy to see that the rooms in the Peterson Tower are much bigger than the old ones! I once stayed in an IHC hospital where my room literally used to be a utility closet. I know it because a nurse told me = worst hospital experience ever. This was my fear going to Utah Valley. Fortunately, my expectations were exceeded. The smart TV was nifty to order my meals from and it had a good number of movies on it which was useful. Food was good. Not gourmet or exotic of any sort, but decent. The breakfast sandwich was the best item on their menu. Granola with the greek yogurt was pretty good too. Only complaint: They still has terrible pull-out beds for spouses. My husband is 5'6" and he was too tall for the bed. I mean really?... Something is wrong with that picture, don't you think? Wouldn't hurt to take some tips from your Mountain Star neighbors. read more

It's very telling when after being brought by ambulance to the hospital and then waiting 3 hours (waiting for lab results?!!), despite the fact that my chronic, progressive, debilitating illnesses are documented at the hospital, one of the first things out of Doctor Johnson's mouth was, "do you have any serious illnesses?". He then cut me off when I tried to tell him so I just told the young pup who spends more time in the tanning bed and working out in the gym than improving as a doctor that I was doing much better. 3 days later and I still have some of the same symptoms that an online nurse said required an ambulance, but I have no desire to go through that again. While I LOVED the doctors, techs, and everyone really who helped take care of my mom and us who were her family. That's including the super wonderful sitters who helped my mom. We have to make some difficult decisions regarding her health and it was very stressful for our family. I was recording my mom and had no clue that it was illegal to do so. I was catching moments and this one nurse who was mostly missing in action seen me recording mom and she was in it but not much -and BELIEVE IT OR NOT CALLED SECURITY ON ME. This hospital put my pregnant 33 weeks daughter at major risk. She had complications with Covid that turned into pneumonia... double pneumonia... they literally sent her home with no medication or hope... Told her she better get better soon or she would have to deliver her baby. She was the admitted to another hospital within two days because she needed antibiotics and steroids. Still hospitalized, had the Emergency room done their job and tried helping her she may not have ended up being hospitalized. read more

I worked for Intermountain for 23 years and although I was involuntary retired due to an at work injury, I felt like they took good care of me for the multiple procedures and surgeries I have needed I have a history of kidney stones, the most recent one being diagnosed on April 23, 2023. At that time I had excellent care in the ER On Tuesday May 9 I went in to have the kidney stone removed and during that time in same day surgery I had the worst care of my life. All of my concerns were dismissed or flatly ignored. I had horrific pain which should have led to an overnights stay but I was sent home with 8 pain pills that were supposed to magically get me through the two weeks until the tube from my kidney to my bladder was removed My pain has not been below a 7 on a 1-10 scale. My aged mother has had to be with me nearly all the time because I have so much pain it is difficult to get to the bathroom Tonight the pain was so terrible I called my doctor and was told to go to the ER During this visit I again had substandard care. I was stuck 4 times for an IV even though I informed them about my small veins and requirement to use ultrasound to place the IV I laid there for hours in severe pain and eventually was given one standard pain pill plus zofran for nausea I was then informed that they couldn't find anything wrong with my labs or cat scan The nurse dumped some papers on my bed and told me I was free to walk out in spite of my still having the pain and nausea I went in for. I am appalled and disgusted with what Intermountain Healthcare has become. Go somewhere else if you want actual help!!! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. TERRIBLE DELIVERY STAFF. Make sure you check every single person who sees both you and your child and check a million times that they are in network with your insurance. Because apparently checking 3 times in between contractions with the delivery nurse isn't enough and you end up with a bill for $10k. All because the anesthesiologist who gave you the epidural (and very rudely said "don't move or else you'll end up paralyzed") wasn't in network with your insurance. The same delivery nurse also forgot to have us sign a form when we told her we wanted to keep the placenta. So we were unable to get our placenta because of her mistake. And then the pediatric dr who was on staff that night when my brand new baby went to the nursery wasn't in network either. REAL COOL. On a bright side, there was one nurse there (I believe her name was Brinley), who is a rockstar. She gave me the confidence I needed when I was struggling with new mom stuff. She was the only person I can say I liked about this hospital staff. read more

5 hours in the ER and after notifying a couple nurses that patient needed painkillers from a surgery days before, 3.5 hours go by and crickets. doctor comes in saying oops I forgot. also said they had no clue with patients obvious issue with severely troubled breathing and sent us on our way. huge. upon leaving all the nurses in the area were together cracking jokes and telling stories. a custodian directed us to where we needed to go. unfortunately I have to give them a star to even give a review, 0/5 in reality. do not come here in an emergency, they are useless. read more

Grumpy and slow front desk staff. We had an induction and room scheduled at 6:15am and sat in an empty waiting room for 30 minutes before anyone even saw or helped us. Seems like a poorly run operation in the labor and delivery unit. Our last delivery was at Timp in the Mountain Star network and was twice as good as this experience with IHC - planning on changing insurances just so we don't have to come back here for the next baby! Fortunately, we love our nurse and she is being kind and very helpful. Sadly, just when I was going to change this from 1 to 3 stars we discovered blood remains from the prior birth in this room on our hospital bed(pictured below)... that is all for now. read more

I suffered a stroke 2 weeks ago. My daughter left me at home for about an hour when she came home I was on the kitchen floor which is concrete covering the linoleum to make it look pretty. I have no idea how I fell for how long I was down. We've been sitting in this emergency room for about 3 hours and apparently my head injury is not that important because they've been taking everybody else back except me. This hospital needs all new staff all new doctors and the people that are working here now need a swift kick in the ass. We are working on a lawsuit on this hospital because they have misdiagnosed me several times when I have had a stroke. My wife recently had to go to the emergency room here and every staff member we met was kind and helpful. Dr. Enz in particular had a fantastic bedside manner that helped put us at ease during our stay. The treatment was professional and effective and went far beyond the minimal acceptable treatment. They were also highly competent and considerate when they helped us figure out our insurance. It took us a little while to find all our information but they were patient with us and helped us find the information we needed. read more

Hands down the best hospital around Utah County! We are new from California. My son got his tonsils removed. I was so apprehensive but after asking around decided to choose his hospital. So glad we did! The post-op Pediatrics unit staff is stellar. Surgery for any child can be daunting, but they made it so easy. My child actually felt really pampered and was excited during his stay. They made sure he was comfortable. Whether it is video games, providing art from a local artist that painted Spider-Man or food service- it was great. The slushie were an added bonus.They really truly made us feel like guests. The nurses are very competent and had amazing bedside manners. One nurse in particular made an effort to hang out with my son and play games with him. Being a competent nurse is one thing, add empathy and such love-is truly an art and a gift. Two Utah Valley Hospital stories: One one occasion with a minor surgery, they double billed me. The "help line" was no help and the wouldn't give me an email address I could use to send documents. If you have an email chain, you can document exactly when you initiated disputes -- such an email is good for the customer but not good for Intermountain Healthcare. They refused to admit I was double billed until I wrote letters of complaint to my Senators, House Rep, the Federal Trade Commission and Santa Claus. When they had politicians and regulators breathing down their necks, suddenly IHC was a model of helpful customer service and admitted their error. Once I visited the ER for a facial & throat swelling that turned out to be not that serous. While there, they gave me some OTC meds. I got the bill and they charged me $8 for one benadryl. not a bottle of benadryl, it was $8 for ONE PILL. I can accept paying more for an ER doc than a GP, but didn't expect them to screw me on a 5 cent pill. don't believe their non-profit hype for a minute. if you end up here through choice or necessity, double check all the paperwork and if anything's not kosher play hardball from the start in forcing them to behave honestly. edit: I should add that the ground-level staff (nurses, MDs etc) were all pretty good. but their professionalism fades into the background when my final experiences with IHC always end up with endless useless phone calls and me having to sic government agencies on them over billing and paperwork issues. read more

Had the worst experience at this hospital. I was sent here by my doctor because I needed to get an emergency procedure that wasn't able to be done where I live. I ended up having to redo my vitals and CT scan because apparently the hospital couldn't get ahold of my doctor. When I had just called my doctor and asked if he could send over my information. On top of that I was kept in room with none of my questions answered and no one was able to see me or explain what was going on. I felt like all of the doctors just wanted to keep me there and not take care of the real issue. I was sent there for an emergency procedure and ended up not getting anything done until my fourth day there. I was in pain day and night and felt like no one actually cared about my serious condition or that I was crying in pain. One of the doctors told my parents they didn't need to be there because he felt like they were trying to get my to go home when all I wanted to do was get taken care of and go home asap. He also made some very uncomfortable comments about my body and how tan my body was. They continuously played with my emotions and would tell me I would get to go home the next day or that someone would come talk to me and then things would change the next day. After 5 days I finally got treated for a serious infection that was supposed to be taken care of in a day or 2. I have never been in a hospital before and this was the worst experience I've ever had. read more

My dad was admitted to Utah Valley hospital in early February of 2019. He had suffered a stroke and was in pretty bad shape. He was in the new ICU tower about a week and a half after it opened. He was extremely sick and out of it. He spent a total of 6 weeks in the hospital before going home. While in the ICU, someone in my family was always with him. On his second nights stay, I stayed the night in his room. The nurse Lorenzo was great and very accommodating. He filled me in on everything that was going on with my dad, his medications and why he was giving them. I myself am an ICU nurse and work 12 hour nights in Las Vegas. As things finally seemed to settle down for my dad that night I figured I would close my eyes for a bit and try to rest while he seemed to be resting. Around 2 in the Morning things seemed to be very quiet. A few minutes later I heard a really loud noise coming from the hallway and lots of loud laughter. My nurse came in and saw the frustration on my face. This circus continued in the hallway and was heard loud and clear even with the door closed. I became more upset and angry at every minute I sat there and listened to this. My dad was very sick, in the ICU and this nonsense was going on!?!? I went in the hallway and found a group of about 10 nurses and respiratory therapists goofing off and switching out using the lift in the hallway as a zip line. I was furious. I walked over to them and told them how unprofessional they were and how upset I was. They knew right away they were in the wrong. I went back to my dads room And stayed up the rest of the night until my mom came to relieve me in the morning. This is NEVER ok. There is a time and a place and this was neither. People in the hospital are sick, some fighting for their lives. They definitely do not need to be cared by these young kids who think it is ok to act in this unprofessional manner. My dad stayed in the ICU for around 2 weeks total. I was only able to stay in Utah for a week before going back home. I called every day to check up on him and his caregivers. My family that lived close by made sure they were always around. The care he received was sub par. Yes some nurses were great and some were awful. But to act in this manner when you think no one is laying attention, nope. Bad idea. Act professional and empathetic towards those in the hospital and the family who may not know the future of their loved ones. Where were the charge nurses or upper management??? Never ever ok. No one wants to go to the Doctors, but I can't say enough about the wonderful experiences we have had over the past few months at the clinic and hospital. My husband was first seen at the Vascular Surgery Office. The providers in Vascular I just can't seem to find the words to compliment them enough for the care that my husband received. P.A. Jordan Lythgoe, Brian Bushman and Dr. Robert Ballard get all the high praise for taking such good care of my husband. I felt that they truly cared. They took as much time as needed to care for my husband but also to answer any questions and concerns we had. Jordan who we saw the most during this time just gave us all of his focus and took great care of my husband. My husband had to go to the Infusion Center at the clinic to receive IV Antibiotics. The staff was fantastic and tried to make him as comfortable as possible during the time we were there. He had great nurses and staff to pass the time by chatting and joking. My husband also had to be seen during this time at the Wound Care Center. Again the Nurses, Techs and Dr. Matthew G. Ollerton were fantastic. The care they showed and the patience they had while answering all of our questions is not something that you usually experience. They were there for us, never in any rush of get in and out and we felt like we had a good understanding of what was happening. We were also seen at the ER twice and again great care. If they didn't have an answer they contacted another physician who did to make sure they were giving the appropriate care. It also helped that both times we were able to walk right in and be seen without any wait. After two months of back and forth at the clinic my husband had to go in for surgery. Dr Ballard performed the surgery and the 5 day stay we had at the hospital we saw him every single day, including the weekend. He never passed us off and wanted to make sure things were going well with recovery and to make sure we understood the plan of care after we were released. The staff at the hospital from the Nurses, Techs, Room Service and custodial were well above excellent from anywhere else we have been. They were so thorough and caring and never showed any sign of being frustrated or impatient. They took time, talked and joked around with my husband and were just comforting all around. I can honestly say, as many doctors appointments and hospital stays we have had, these past few months have been the best care we have ever received. I just got back from having my 4th baby, but this was the first time delivering at this hospital. I cannot express how pleased I am with all of the care I received while I was there! All of the nurses, doctors, and staff were incredible. They all went above and beyond in making sure I was feeling supported emotionally and physically throughout my delivery (4th csection) and recovery. I just received a letter in the mail from my nurses that included the imprints of my babies feet cause I forgot them when I was leaving! I only took away one star because the rooms are small (but that makes sense given how many babies they deliver) and the bathrooms were a little old feeling. Very disappointed. They are set up to milk more money out of those with the no insurance or inadequate insurance... than they get from fully insured. Seems wrong. After being unemployed during most of COVID my wife had to go to their ER. They basically watched her sleep for 3 hours, then sent her home. A few weeks later got a $2000+ hospital bill and a $500+ doctors bill. My "insurance" just sent me a check for $300 and said good luck. My new employer pointed out most insurance only pays one contracted fee for the E&M Level charge which (invented by Medicare) is suppose to include all of the overhead costs. My new employer said my portion would have been $650 and the Insurance would have also been $300, for a total of $950 of what the hospital gets from most of these same instances. So I paid the $650 and tried to find anyone to have a discussion with. (still getting a bill asking for more). I got promised they would "audit" the bill in October. Then Promised a Supervisor would call me back in January, which they did during work... when I tried back and left a best time to call, I never heard from them again... called back, waited an hour for a supervisor only to get another promise to call me back... Why is UV Hospital set up to ultimately make the least able pay the most? read more

Our baby was in the NICU for 16 days and expected to receive a bill, obviously. As soon as the bill arrived I called the billing department to see what I needed to do because I couldn't pay the 7,000 off all at once. I was told to just make sure to make a payment each month by the 25th. Sure! No problem! I have been paying 150.00 every month without fail on the 25th. All of the sudden I get an alert that my medical account has now been placed for collections and has hit my credit report! I call Utah Valley billing and am told because I didn't set up an "official" payment arrangement, even though she saw the note in the system where I spoke with the lady telling me to make a payment, that my account continued to age and therefore I'm screwed. So now instead of 150.00 a month they get 75.00 a month through collections. So messed up! read more

I am a cancer patient and regularly go to the Utah Cancer Clinic in the lobby of the hospital. This hospital is always clean, well staffed, and the volunteers are very helpful. The pharmacy, physicians tower, and entirety of the hospital staff (at least the ones I interacted with) were knowledgeable, helpful, and respectful. I'm generally not a fan of this hospital, but I've had a mix of experiences that warrants the 3 star. The ER, avoid like the plague. The out patient services are the best around. The quality of doctors they have are amazing but the attitude of many doctors is just as amazing, but in a negative way. They do have the highest tech, latest and greatest stuff in Utah County, but all the equipment in the world means nothing if patient care isn't a priority. I've had some surgeries here, ended up on the 4th floor, 4 times. Some of my visits were great experiences with a staff that genuinely cared and looked out for their patients. Some of my visits, I really felt like they didn't even know I was in the room. For example, last visit my bed was stuck in the sitting position. The nurse and tech couldn't figure out how to get it moved, said it was locked in place and left it at that. Very frustrating that I couldn't lay down. I voiced my concern a number of times to no avail. Finally, I had a visitor look at the logo on the foot of the bed, tell me what brand the bed was and I Googled how to unlock it. Which I did. But really, it should have come to that. I guess it just depends on the team you get. Like I said, some were amazing, others just need to quit their jobs because they have no passion for it any more. The ER can be way to busy and seems understaffed often. Not necessarily short on techs or nurses but on doctors. Waiting hours to see a doctor is ridiculous. Then, when the doc does come to actually see you, he/she is so busy that it's in and out, your a chart number, nothing more and no real patient care happens. My profession gets me involved in a lot of emergency rooms and this is not one I'd choose for me or my family. The hospital is beautiful and growing, but I question their use of money to do this. A hospital needs to be functional and not an art gallery. For a non-profit origination, they charge a ton. And, where IHC owns it's own insurance company, seems like a conflict of interest. The cafeteria is great, cheap and quick. Great for visitors and family to eat at while there. Parking is easy in the garage and they have valet parking available too. read more
