    Celebration meal
    Hannah H.

I have visited this hospital twice for labor and delivery. I have never been disappointed. The food is great. The hospital rooms are wonderful. And the nursing staff is absolutely amazing. I have had a great birth experience both time. I love that they give you a little celebration meal after baby is born too.

Was there for mental illness and nurses wouldn't let me use bathroom by my self. Some of the nurses were rude and unprofessional.

I went to the Orem Community Hospital Emergency Room yesterday morning at the request of my dentist…read morebecause I have a severely infected tooth, a visibly huge and swollen cheek, and so much pain, OTC meds weren't touching it so I was forced to take my back pain meds (which still didn't take the pain away,) as well as a fever of 103.4 earlier in the morning. My dentist thought I should go to the ER for IV antibiotics for fear that my tooth infection had turned into something much more serious because the antibiotics he gave me weren't working. The admitting person was a sweetheart as was the male nurse; both compassionate, empathetic, and kind. The doctor came in and made me feel foolish and idiotic for going to the ER for 'simple' tooth pain, actually pulling faces at the mention of a dentist sending someone to the ER, and rolling her eyes. THEN, when she seemingly, finally decided to figure out exactly what was going on, she sat down in front of me and said, "Hon, tell me what is going on. How did this happen?" All I could think was, are you serious?? I mean look at my ginormous, pink cheek, lady!! She talked to me as if I were a child and was extremely condescending. I just felt stupid and wanted to leave and go to a different ER but I had an IV at that point (for blood tests, mind you, not antibiotics). Then she sent me in for CT scans of my face to make certain that the infection hadn't spread anywhere dangerous, finally taking my issue seriously. She didn't give me the IV antibiotics for the severe infection, she simply 'upped' my antibiotic (from the one the dentist gave me) to a stronger one. How hard would it have been to simply give me even just a injection of stronger antibiotics?? Or better still, through the IV that was already in my arm?!? Then, she numbed my tooth to take away some of the pain, which it did, for about 30 minutes when the pain came back with a vengeance. I feel like the doctor didn't like being told what to do from a measly dentist, or God forbid, me, and didn't do the antibiotics out of sheer stubbornness and pride. No, I did not go to medical school, I am not a doctor and will not pretend to know how to heal someone in the way a doctor can. I do know my body and knew something was wrong. I also know empathy, which this doctor didn't seem to posses, nor, really, did the female nurse who just acted like it was an inconvenience for me to be there. I went to this ER with the hopes of having some relief from my pain and severe infection. I left feeling stupid for going in the first place. There was no empathy, compassion, or even patience from this doctor. I know there are other doctors working at the Orem Community Hospital's ER, some with likely more empathy than was shown me, but I will *never* chance that again. I will drive the extra several miles to AF Hospital's ER where they are kind, respectful, and even humble enough to listen.

While in the care of the…read morestaff, doctors and nurses I spent over two hours in a private room with very few visits. When I was visited by the attending physician, Dr. Nelson, his demeanor was very unprofessional, confrontational, and distrustful. I was diagnosed bipolar 2 disorder in 2018 and was between residences for several months before I moved in with family in Provo, Utah. With no established medical care in a new, unfamiliar area, I felt I had no choice but to visit the ER due to extreme depression and to make sure I was able to stay on stabilizing medications. I visited the emergency room to get an emergency refill on a non-narcotic prescription I have taken for years that I have been told not to stop taking because of its life threatening side-effects. I recently acquired my medical records from my visit at Intermountain Healthcare. After careful review of the documents, I have found that Dr. Nelson lied about me on my medical records and his unprofessional behavior in the emergency room was discriminatory and based on a diagnosis that I do not have. I asked to have my Lamictal prescription refilled as it is necessary to maintaining my mental health. He put in my medical records that I hadn't been taking it and he "advised against restarting it". I had not stopped taking it. I needed a refill because I was almost out and having a very difficult time. He told me to stop taking a life saving medication cold turkey. If I had stopped taking it cold turkey as he suggested, I would have been even more depressed, psychotic, and would possibly have seizures as well. If anything, he should have referred me to a physician who could help or sent me to an emergency mental health hospital for acute care. Dr. Nelson is not a psychiatrist. In my chart, he wrote in an diagnosis for borderline personality disorder and claimed my behavior (being upset about not being able to have my life saving medication) was due to this disorder. He also claimed that I changed and fabricated my stories while I was there, implying in my chart that it was due to this disorder (one I do not have). I was not visited by a staff psychologist, social worker or other doctor who could have advised him on such a diagnosis. I have since received follow up care and I am feeling better. I don't have BPD. I have never been diagnosed with BPD. I have bipolar 2 disorder and OCD. His uninformed diagnosis reduced the quality of my care by other attending physicians and nurses. The treatment I received at the hands of Dr. Nelson left me feeling even worse than I had felt when I came in to the emergency room. He stated that I have BPD in these records and to my nurses to invalidate my feelings and reactions to what happened. This is blatant discrimination and disgusting behavior from a doctor. I am concerned about the other patients that Dr. Nelson is seeing. If he treated me with such unprofessionalism based on a diagnosis that had no basis, he most likely treats other patients the same way or even worse. *Copy of the complaint email I sent to Intermountain Healthcare I DO NOT recommend visiting this hospital. I especially do not recommend seeing Dr. Nelson.

I bought a really good Groupon deal for two chiro visits and for one massage because I moved from out of state and have been searching for a new chiro. The one I left behind was incredible, so I was hoping to find someone of the same caliber. Reading the outstanding reviews for Dr. Ryan convinced me to give the office a try. The office is pretty busy right now, probably because of Groupon. I was able to schedule the first appt. within a week or so, but had to come in on a different weekday afternoon for a massage + 2nd adjust. They say the masseuses book up fast and at least a week out. Front desk people are nice. Dr. Ryan himself is alright. I don't really feel like he's fully present and that he's far too busy to really, truly care -- about me at least. Maybe he does care about his other patients who are very happy with him. He diagnosed me after our first meeting. He likes to play videos to show diagrams, but the TVs didn't really work, so just sat there waiting in silence instead of just listening to an explanation. One of my visits was sat in upon by a new hire that awkwardly stood in the corner. He asked if it were okay she was there after she was already there for 5+mins. He does actual hand adjustments, which I am not used to, but I liked it. They offer this muscle relaxant before adjustments that is delivered by electrical pulses as you lay face down on these massage tables. It's awkward because you're laying butt up in a public room where people are busily walking in and out of, and other patients are annoyingly playing loud videos on their phones or talking loudly. You can't really relax because of this. And you can hear other people's consultations through the walls. The first appt., he also mentioned doing a muscle scan, but then said the machine was down and that they would do it next time. He forgot the 2nd time, so I had to remind him. He said that he could cure my conditions for $2k. Despite me asking for a breakdown several times, I never got one. Knowing the regular price of the adjustments and massages, I could not figure out where his numbers were coming from (for 10-12 weeks of treatment). I felt pressured and was anxious for it for weeks because he told me I would likely develop osteoarthritis by the time I'm 40 if I did not move forward with treatment. I almost did it because of how scared I was, but I then decided to get hardcore back into strength training and yoga everyday, and I have been feeling a lot better. He really talked up their masseuses, saying they're the best in Utah. I hope not because my experience was just meh. She rushed it and was done before the hour was up and talked the entire time. That's fine, but to also talk about how you're psyching yourself up for a 2 hour massage AFTER mine is dumb. C'mon. I plan on going back to a chiro, but just not this office. IN RESPONSE TO THE OFFICE: Dr. Ryan explicitly told me he would CURE my conditions. He told me this twice. I remember the conversation because I asked him just to make sure I heard him correctly (because it's rare to hear any sort of medical partitioner to guarantee such a thing), and he said yes, "cure". It was at the end of my second appt, after my adjustment and after the muscle scan. I was standing right by the screen where I could see the results and the front desk. A cure was the only reason I considered paying $2k but decided I didn't feel right about it. I asked for the cost breakdown several times from both Dr. Ryan and the front desk staff, but it was not provided, I so doubted anything else would be resolved if I brought it to the office's attention. If you know who I am, you were able to call me but you chose to write this public response instead. Thanks anyway.
