I mean when you see a towing company of course you expect low reviews at least from the people who got towed because they can't park legally. I am a fan of University towing though. They have been at the last 3 places I lived and the last one was helpful because someone parked in my spot and was there for 3 hours, so of course I would have them towed because I pay for that spot and had to park 10 minutes away. What a predatory company. Charging $372 for towing and pick up of my personal property, when the entire ordeal took place within an hour. They will respond to this claim by saying that they are following Utah law. However, they do not tell you that they are charging the maximum fees legally allowed. They know well that most offenders are college students yet they charge them as much money as they are legally allowed to take. What a greedy company, the state law is the only thing stopping them from scamming more money from these college students. There is no reason to charge the maximum fees when the car was towed for a total of 7 minutes and was stored in their location for less than an hour. This company is pure greed. Parking Enforcement here is the most predatorily power trippers in all of Utah. As someone who lives in south provo known for an excessive amount of college students - our residential neighborhood is always packed out with extra cars - there has been times where I have to park 5-10 minutes away to find a close enough parking spot to my house. This is the second time where I decided to park in my own driveway behind my brothers car instead of parking around sketchy gas stations and constant crackheads; and a small clip of my rear bumper sticks into the road. Mind you I got to my house at 1am and woke up at 6am for work and they stopped by at 5am and fined me $55. A predatory and scummy company at best. They booted my car while I was helping my friend with a ski injury mere minutes after the posted time. When their "smartboot" jammed, I had to wait over an hour after midnight before they could bother to come and help. They thrive off of parking traps and a terrible infrastructure. Their online text support is extremely faulty. They send generic text responses to avoid any confrontation about their shady business practice and offer no help. It took about 4 text exchanges and 2 videos to show the guy on the other end that it was jammed when in previous reviews they said they will send someone out as requested. Complete hypocrisy. Having been towed before by them for parking in my own parking space but "the pass wasn't visible enough" I also know that appealing is useless. Was booted in a half empty parking lot in what I thought was visitor parking. When I got the boot off it said it had to be returned within 48 hours or I'd have to pay a $25 fee. My friends and I have had problems with them before, and I wasn't about to let them get the boot back ASAP but I returned it the next day, definitely before the 48-hour deadline. (My boyfriend was there and can verify this) A couple days later, I'm checking my bank statement and see a random charge for $75 in addition to the boot removal fee. It was just labeled "boot late fee". To clarify I had received no notice of this at all, and I have screenshots proving that if I was even late on returning it (I wasn't) I had only agreed to a $25 fee. Tried to contact them and their phone number doesn't work. these are the most pathetic people i've ever met in my life. my first encounter with them i was dropping off my girlfriend after a date and just walked her to her door, gave her a hug and a kiss good night, didn't even enter her apartment, then went straight back out to my car. there was already a pathetic little man towing my car. second encounter my little sister came to see me at my own apartment complex when i broke my leg, and the second she came in the door i asked her where she parked and she said she didn't plan on staying long, that she just wanted to stop by and see how i was doing and just parked in an available spot at my apartment complex and didn't see any signs saying she couldn't. i immediately got on my crutches and went out there with her so she can move it before one of these a**holes could get to her car - too late. in the 5 mins or so she had taken to simply walk to my apartment and back there he was, with his tow truck parked right in front of her and getting out to start rigging up her car. i immediately told the guy to stop, that we're here and are moving the car and he said it wasn't his problem, and hurried around me to start rigging up the car and i told him again to stop, and to move his truck out of the way so we can back out and pull out of the spot and he refusing saying it would cost $350 cash for him to move his truck and so physically blocked us in and forced us to just watch as he hooked up my sister's car and towed it away for absolutely no reason. after moving around the globe over 50 times and meeting thousands of people over the course of my life i can easily say these are some of the most miserable excuses for human beings i've ever met read more

Sooo, I think this may be my first rant on a small business but University Parking Enforcement in Provo, Utah has this one coming. Predatory towing on private property at 2 am with no called in complaints DURING A PANDEMIC and with dozens of empty spaces feels egregious and opposite of what our state represents. My daughter and her friend are sheltering in place after their Brigham Young University classes were moved online and their jobs suspended. This company is very predatory. I was once towed out of the parking lot of an apartment complex I lived in and ended up missing my nephews baby blessing. Another time, I parked outside a burger place where we grabbed burgers. Then we car pooled to Walmart. When I came back, I could not find my car and thought it was stolen. If only negative rating were a thing. I've had several experiences with UPE and they are just criminal. The first time was when I went to my parking garage to go grocery shopping. I approached my car to find someone crouched next to my car, placing a boot on my car. I asked him what he was doing and pointed to my parking permit. He told me he didn't see it but now that the boot was placed I would have to pay the fine and then I could fight the fine through an internal system. The next incident was a friend who had parked his car in front of his gfs garage so he can deliver a box. He parked with the front end of the car in the actual garage and in the time that he entered the home with box in hand, leaving the car door open, dropping it off inside and walking out, a UPE employee had rushed to boot the car. As my friend returned to the vehicle and asked the guy what has doing, he rushed to secure the boot and then demanded payment. My friend relented and paid the guy and then asked to get a closer look at the guys name tag. I then tried to take a photo of the badge and the guy freaked out, started yelling at us, and told us he refused to remove the boot. This was AFTER my friend paid the fine. I won't even bother writing in detail the last experience, but basically my parking pass had fallen off the rear view mirror and onto my seat, they towed my car and even when I pointed to show them my pass sitting there on my seat they told me there was nothing they could do. A while back my high-school-age brother came to visit me at school. He didn't park in visitor parking. Right when he walked into my apartment I asked him where he parked. We sprinted out the door to move his car, but it was too late... In the time he had to walk from his car to my door and back, a UPE truck was locking in its talons. We spent 20 minutes arguing with the driver. The guy had no empathy and essentially said there was nothing he could do. I got in the car and turned it on before he could get the tow truck completely set up, and he eventually took everything off and let us go. This is just predatory behavior. Apartments pay for a tow company to make sure people don't abuse parking, not because they want some sort of socialistic parking dictator to rule their asphalt. I have had three points of contact with this company over the past ~10 years and only one time was 100% on me. The other time last I was visiting my old room mates and my vehicle was misidentified as being wrongfully parked in a visitor spot and most recently I was got in a parking lot where the 'Parking by Permit Only' sign was obscured from the street. I've done their appeal process and they don't care. Generally speaking they are probably legally covered but they are unethically predatory towards students already squeezed between part time incomes and tuition. Parked in a 30min parking zone to run something in to a building came back out and there was a boot. I was gone 5min at most. They wouldn't take it off until I paid. Another time my brother was parked in visitor parking to help me move into my new place and they booted him to even though he wasn't breaking any time rules. I paid it because my brother at the time didn't have the fund to pay the ridiculous fee. Another time I was towed from a visitor parking space when I had the right to be there and had to walk at night to the place where they had my car. It was an hr walk. And had to pay over $200 to get my car back. They said I couldn't prove anything and neither could they so I was the one that got to pay the price for their mistake. Another time I rented a parking space from a complex and had to pay $90 a month for it. It was worth it because I have crazy work hours and didn't want to park far away at night. Someone was always parked in my spot. I would call their number that was on the sign by my spot but they did nothing and so did the apartment owners. read more

Parking and traffic rules should definitely be reinforced but it becomes a concern when companies try to make profits from a deeper rooted problem. There is a huge problem in Provo, which is little to no parking. Spots that are close to campus and certain apartment complexes are hard to come by. Especially if you are a visitor. This lack of parking definitely needs to be solved because for students. Doing things like 'dropping by' or running quick errands to others students apartments are impossibly because University Parking Enforcement lurks around these spots in hopes to leech money off college students. There definitely needs to be a balance between being helpful and being preditorial and all of my experience with University Parking Enforcement is that they are preditorial. There is always a fear in Provo that no matter where you park you will be ticketed, towed, or booted. I pay for parking in my apartment complex and on campus but still find it hard to find parking. Even when I do find parking I am anxious that I will still get booted or towed. I had my transmission die in the middle of an intersection in the middle of the night. I pushed my car to the nearest parking lot, and left a note on my window saying the car was dead and I'd tow it in the morning, and to call my phone number if there are any problems. In the winter of 2014, my car was legally parked in the apartment complex where I lived and had a parking pass to. UPE towed my car during the night and forced me to pay the fine to obtain it out of their impound. UPE stated they towed my car because the curb I was next to was a no-parking zone. It clearly did not have any red paint on the curb, yellow markings on the asphalt, or signs stating it was not a parking spot. I did not bother fighting it then because I did not have the time working and attending school full-time. One of the most dishonest companies I've ever interacted with. I was towed for sticking too far out of a parking spot that had a basketball pole inside of the parking spot which didnt allow me to back all of the way up. A truck frequently parked in that spot that would stick out further than I did. I was also booted while parallel parked on a street where the sign was very clearly not visible at the entrance. I had no recourse when they disagreed that the sign was not clearly marked. And I'm not alone in my experience with UPE, I've also had countless friends who were victims of their predatory towing practices, relentlessly towing at every opportunity they possibly can, even when it's a stretch or very clearly unfair. Very very angry. This is a predatory business. Daughter was unable to get her paid parking sticker off her car and put it on, a very clearly new car she had just gotten into her possession on a Sunday evening. Since she had no access to her housing management company until the next day she put a note with her info and her parking sticker number stating she would get a replacement sticker the next day. Not only was she booted by 5 am Monday morning the parking officer accepting her payment and taking off her boot was unbelievably rude and verbally abusive insisting she had to have the sticker. We called the company to find recourse and there is absolutely none. Not even an apology for his verbally abusive behavior. Although this is a private company and 100 % of the fees go to the company (which tells you how predatory it is) BYU should also share some responsibility to the parking problem with more oversight on the housing organizations that use these companies. This same company or others like them are encroached at BYU Idaho also. Parking enforcement in Provo is predatory. In an apartment I once lived in, the lot had two visitor lots, both with posted signs signifying so. Unfortunately, one of the signs was somehow ripped off its place, but one could still see parts of the sign still there, as if it was vandalized. Long story short, I had visitors park in that place that had always been a visitor spot and they got a boot, which costs a cool $60 to remove. When I confronted the parking officer about it, he said that the spot had never been a visitor spot, even though it was clearly marked as one just a few months prior. I understand that no one likes parking enforcement because of the nature of the business, but it would be much appreciated if the penalties were more lenient for what mostly amounts to misunderstandings. Jumping immediately to the boot seems extreme where a simple 10-15 dollar fine might be more appropriate. read more

We had just gotten a new car with a temporary pass two days ago. Somehow the pass slipped off during the night. These guys suck to talk to and don't budge on any kindness. Expect a waste of time with any conversation with them. They need new management, or at least some way to dispute fees.
