Passport office is extremely slow. Even with an appointment you have to wait over an hour. I saw one girl wait 3 hours and there were no water fountains so she was begging people to give her water. A kind postoffice man from the other end of the building did, but she was standing there in warm layers for hours. This is un-American. No communications, nothing. BEYOND unprofessional. I called the national office to get the number for this location. After calling 14 times I got someone on the phone who transferred me to someone else. After being transferred 3 times and after 35 minutes I got a Derrick on the phone. Not only he didnt know how to help but he yelled at me and hung up. Now I have to take half day off from work to go there in person . Horrible service. read more

Terrible the post office on River Rd and Falls Rd, Potomac, MD. I forwarded my mail to FL and not sure what they do with it. Nothing, including bills, ever arrives at my new temporary address. Luckily PEPCO, Washington Gas, and WSSC, or garbage collector call me when they are about to cut the service because of non-payment (I never get the bills!) and I pay over the phone. Same with mail from SSA - I never get it. I don't know what the Potomac post office does with my mail, throw it in the garbage? Came home from work yesterday and all my mail was all over my driveway. Well now even the mailman sucks!!! If it's not one thing it's another. I get other peoples mail in my mailbox, other people get mine. And on occasion a bill i maiked gets there 2 weeks later. I recently took my two teens to get passports. I arrived 10 minutes early for my scheduled 10:30am appt. The Passport person was 15 minutes late arriving, but things happen and I overlooked that. The office was filthy and an absolute wreck. After presenting all the necessary documents the gentlemen disappeared for approx 10 mins. He came back with an unopened box and proceeded to unwrap a brand new camera. My husband inquired wether this was for the passport photo s as he'd offered no explanation. He said yes that their other camera recently broke. While we waited about 15 minutes for him to read the directions my husband politely said is there any chance we will be done in 15 mins (we had already been there 45 mins and got nothing done--the man chuckled and said no. He then said we should go to Walgreens and get photos there. My husband let him know he would need to be leaving and could he sign something now because he had to leave. He then disappeared again for a lengthy amount of time and comes back with a form for my Shia and to sign ...my husband thanked him and hurried for the door -- the gentleman then said oh you need to get that notarized. So he ran to 3 area banks and finally found a notary. Meanwhile I ran my boys over to Walgreens to get photos. When I got back he was with a new client and we waited another 25 mins. The customer service was just terrible. No apologies and poorly run. If the health dept went in there it would undoubtedly be condemned. read more

YES. THIS IS A GOOD REVIEW OF A POST OFFICE. I went to the Post Office today and there was a line as usual. I was surprised to see a very pleasant lady walk through the line and help and talk to the customers waiting in line. She helped folks with their questions even before they reached the counter. I was returning a device and after she answered my questions I did not even have to go to the counter. On my asking she told me she was the supervisor there. i regret I did not ask her her name. The employees at the post office itself - clerks at the windows - are efficient and friendly. I've watched them politely deal with customers who appear to have no clue about mailing packages. The passport office is not efficient. I was speaking to a woman who had been waiting 45 minutes for her appointment - no one had contacted her - so she finally left. Mail carriers: they switch out constantly. For a while, our route had substitutes. One left all our mail on top of a package on the porch. We found it after being away for several days and complained since one item was a check. Now, and I discovered this yesterday when mailing a large package (I usually use the self-serve machine), they have a new supervisor who goes down the line of customers, but rather than just asking if a person needs help, and takes no for an answer, she harasses and interrogates them to the point of obnoxiousness. After I told her I found this annoying, she turned and tried to make an example of me to the others in line. As a private school teacher, all I could think is the exact wrong way to treat people. Based on the previous reviews, I was expecting a trainwreck colliding with a dumpster fire at this post office. I was pleasantly surprised! The guy I interacted with was polite, helpful, and efficient. Overall a good experience. While waiting in line, I had the pleasure of witnessing a few "difficult" transactions. Every single one was the customer's fault. Look, if you don't know what you want, and can't make a decision when the employee clearly lays out your options for you, I have no idea what you expect them to do. They're neither magicians nor therapists. I'm not saying this post office doesn't make mistakes or that every employee is terrific all the time, but in my sample, they were 100% blameless. EDIT: I'm updating this to 5 stars. The people working at this post office deal with some of the rudest, stubbornest, most ill-prepared customers I've ever seen, and they do it with a level of patience and courtesy I could only dream to achieve. They've done a wonderful job for me every time I've been in there. Today, one of the employees had worked through her lunch break and wouldn't go because there was a long line. (It was 2:30 PM.) I live within a service area of this address, these people act like it is a disservice to them to provide you with any type of customer service. I have had three separate delivery people at my apartment deliver mail and they continually deliver mail to the wrong address. They know only two people live at my apartment. Yet, I get mail for five or six other named people and NEVER ANY MAIL FOR MYSELF OR MY SPOUSE. I have NEVER had issues with mail before at any place I have lived. This is absolutely ridiculous. I have lived in Maryland for many years, but in different counties and honestly, I think it's the amount of people and lack of care here. For the third time in 6 months, they failed to fulfill my documented online requests to have mail and packages held at post office or re-schedule delivery for pickup at post office. It's like the don't know their own procedures, or they do but don't care about reading the hold notices or delivery-reschedule requests at all. They shouldn't bother to offer the special request delivery services if they are just going to put my mail at my house when I'm expecting it to be held. I can ask a neighbor to get my mail while I'm traveling so it doesn't get soaked from rain when hanging out of my mailbox for while I'm out of town. I've spoken to managers at the Potomac facility the 2nd and 3rd time this happened, but I don't expect it to change. I now prefer to pay a surcharge and have anything, absolutely anything delivered by UPS or Fedex. They lose everything. In the last two months, two packages from Amazon, both of a value of over $300.00 were delivered but certainly not at my address. I called the 800 number and they told me my local post office will contact me.... Two months later, I am still waiting for the call. I tried to call back the 800 number but I can't spend my time staying on hold forever. Then a medication for my dog was supposedly delivered to my address, but wherever they put it, it was sure not in my mailbox. Then my new credit card was sent to me: never received it. I asked for a second one: never received it. Then my bankcard was sent and was delivered according to my bank two days ago. Guess what, I did not receive it either. So the next one comes by Fedex! And it's not like I receive a lot of mail. Like most of us, I pay everything online, but everything I was supposed to received was never delivered. And do not tell me that my Amazon packages were stolen. The only ones which are always missing are the ones delivered by USPS. All my other packages from Amazon stayed home safely. Serious staff and management change is needed at this place. Packages are not being picked-up for 3-4 days. When called management, they don't return phone calls. On my 3rd call today, they send someone to pick-up the packages - after 4 days. The excuse was that my regular mailman is on vacation, the new guy did not know where to pick-up. The Potomac River Road post office is responsible for delivery to our address. It could not be worse. Several years ago, we asked to forward our mail when we were somewhere else for a couple of months. We received about half of the mail. The rest was sent back as "addressee unknown" (including checks!!) or put into our mailbox at home. Fortunately a neighbor checked the mailbox and found a lot of mail and sent it to us. Since then, we've asked our friends to collect our mail and send it to us - a great inconvenience for them. We'd be happy to pay for reliable forwarding, but even the "premium" forwarding did not work! This year, we signed up for mail hold while away for two weeks. Received online confirmation, and online confirmation that mail delivery would resume on the requested day. Yet ALL THE MAIL WAS DELIVERED, even though it was supposed to be on hold. Our neighbor had asked his mail be held, and it was - but then they delivered it in a bin that they left out in the pouring rain, the day before they were supposed to deliver it. For the past two years, we got mail around 7pm almost every weekday, and often got other people's mail - including one letter that was clearly a college acceptance or rejection letter that I'm sure the recipient was burning to get. It got much better the last couple of months, but now it's getting worse again. Today, I put up the flag on my mailbox and put in a date-sensitive envelope with preprinted postage for today's date. ALERT! Dishonest Practices BY USPS POSTAL WORKERS: I just completed a 2.053 pc EDDM campaign within the River Road Potomac MD office on Friday, Sept 7 - 2018. I didn't have NO responses (NO EVEN ONE PHONE CALL.). Be aware that this type of results is NOT normal. I complained, call and visited the postal office and talk with Shirley and Mr. Flint (supervisors) (Sept 12 and 13). Their mix responses: hostility, lack of interest or empathy, and no professional ethics or manners. they claimed every EDDM was delivered properly. I call to the United States Postal Inspection Service to my surprise the same hostility and frustrating no interest in helping response. The woman even rejected completely to give me her name and hang up the phone call. I stop yesterday (Sept 13 - 2018) to talk with a customer that lives in one of the 7 routes that I choose for my campaign (Avenel - Potomac MD area). She was so engaging and interest in helping me, She checks her mail and she assures me that she didn't receive my BUSINESS FLYER. I also walk around her neighborhood and talk with other 10 Avenel residents. I explain to everyone my situation and all of them with a firm response explain to me that they didn't receive my flyer. I will be checking the other routes (talking to people) over the weekend when I have more time on my hands. I was so suspicious about the EDDM Postal Service behavior that I did some research on the internet about any experience/reviews for the USPS service Every Door Direct Mail, or EDDM. to my horrible surprise, they are plenty of people and small businesses with the same complaint (EDDM Mail Fraud by the Postal Office or Postal Workers/ Carriers) (same situation and dishonest response from many postal branches around the country). I myself and many other people believe that the postal workers simply toss these out; which is technically mail fraud, but its non-traceable so they don't care. Save your money...don't bother using EDDM. I feel like I was cheated, and I want to raise awareness so that the USPS cannot get away with such disrespect and carelessness. My total loss between printing my flyers, some small expenses and paying for the EDDM service $720. My next steps are disputing the EDDM charge with my credit card company and putting a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. UPDATE (TUESDAY SEPT 18): I forgot to mention that the day that I dropped my flyers at the River Road Postal Office (Friday, Sept 7 at the postal office in River Road a lady ahead of me was very angry (She was in the counter). She was explaining that she has many issues with her mail. She was not receiving her mail not even after acquiring a mailbox at this postal office. She explains that the River Road Postal Office was a very problematic branch. I have provided proof of addresses and names of people in the different routes testifying that they do not receive my flyer. On Sunday, Sept 16 around noon I talk with some people at Newbridge Dr and Potomac View area and everyone was unanimous they do not receive my business flyer. I provided this information to Mr. Wart. This man calls me a few times with a pushy and aggressive manner gaslighting me and trying to force me to change my mind. Also, I notice that they give you fake names of themselves. When you call back to this postal branch they simply tell you "We do not have anyone working here with does names you got the wrong number". Note: People have told me that my flyer has a striking and eye-catching quality. They told me that a flyer like mine will be easy to remember because is not the classic boring ads that people usually receive in the mail. I would like to share one of my frustrating experiences with Potomac post office. My important mail package was returned after 10 days. I took the mail to the Potomac post office for sending back the package again. As soon as I showed the package to a post office clerk, he said "I have to call the manager" and disappears into the backroom. After waiting for 10 minutes, the manager peek her face out from the door and says "I will be back" then disappears again. I was waiting next to the line for another 10 minutes without knowing what is going on. When an Asian clerk came from the backroom and opened a new service line, I quickly went to her and asked for help. I showed her the mail and explained the issue. She just wrote "RETURN" on the mail with a black pen, and put the mail in a bin. It was a simple common sense task. (1) Is USPS so bad that one can not differentiate the computer generated sender and receiver address? (2) Is Potomac post office clerk so incompetent that he had to call his manager for such simple task? (3) Is Potomac post office manager so busy that she can't even spare one minute of her time (during 20 minutes) to a customer. I had always had fair experience with the post office off River Road. This morning I arrived at the post office at 8:30 am and there was already one customer being served. The door was open so I went in. This tall dark black guy came over and said they are not open. I asked, could I wait? He said no. I said then you should not have your door opened. The literal WORST USPS I have ever been to. The staff are unfriendly and worst of all, sloooooooooooooooow. Remember the sloths in the movie Zootopia? That's actually everyone who works at this office. I visit the Rockville one or the kiosk at King Farm when I can, but this location is where my home mail is delivered from, so it's unavoidable at times. I recently had a decently pricey item shipped to my home and the tracking said that it was delivered to my mailbox, but I never received it. It has been 5 days. I've tried to reach out to USPS to find the whereabouts of my package, but the number on the USPS website is not in service and the number on Google is perpetually busy. In two weeks I received four letters which were delivered to the wrong address. In one case it was a Fidelity statement which was addressed to someone about 4 miles from my address. Totally different name, street number, and street and if I opened it I might have gained access to this person's account. I wonder who is getting the mail I expect but don't get. I have put a post it saying "deliver to correct please" on the misdelivered mail and put it back in my mailbox and there it sits for 2 or three days before someone finally takes it. I previously left a negative review about bankcards not being delivered to my locked mailbox after being scanned my USPS for delivery that day but that review seems to be missing now. Only found that out because I came back to update my review about how terrible this post office is. Been there a few times in the last couple months to ship things and every time something is a problem. The package drop off door in the lobby was stuck once and had to go inside to wait in line to drop off my package with a rude employee. The next time the self service computer in the lobby was out of order and I again had to go in and wait in line to deal with a rude employee. Had to go in to pick up a package another time and they couldn't find it but not surprised considering how messy and unorganized this place looks. So between someone in this post office snatching my bank cards and the problems I've had with packages, I'm def finding a new post office to deal with and now I have my bank cards shipped to me by FedEx or UPS. read more

Not all post offices are as bad as the one in Potomac on River Road Just came back from the Cherrydale post office in Arlington where I was greeted pleasantly with "hello" (not "NEXT!") ---had a few minutes wait--- and was on my way, happy I had come. Other post offices are equally plesant..... if not as fast. Visits to the Potomac post office on River Road are frustrating, unpleasant, and slooooooow. This was my first visit to this post office and like other post office reviews it appears that no one follows up or maybe don't really care. I walked in, waited in line and when it was my turn, I asked the Asian lady at the desk that I needed to have my identity verified for their Informed Delivery service. She rudely responded, I have no idea what you are talking about. I said "informed delivery" it is a post office service and I was told to come to this location from your web site for identity verification. She again said, I have no idea, then said "next in line" I said, hold up here, I waited in line for my turn, now you get me someone who is educated on your products. She just stood there. Finally, a very friendly, employee overheard my request and said, I can help you. Which he did and was able to complete my request. The lady has no business working there. if I could give this place negative zero stars I would. every single time I go in this place it's a nightmare. it's a horror shipping with them, it's dreadful come time to pick up packages that need to be signed for, the employees are terrible and the customer service is non-existent. the only decent person in the place is the post master, but she seems to never be there. or maybe she's trying to clean up the mess her staff makes on a daily basis. I use USPS often and just to avoid standing in CRAZY LONG LINES, being waited on by someone who moves slower than molasses up a hill, I print stamps at home. today, I decided I will be using my parents address for international packages and such from now on. I'll make the drive to Olney and go to my old post office before ever coming back here again. they need a major re-org OR they need to be shut down. it's an absolute NIGHTMARE! don't waste your time here at this USPS location. oh, and let's not even get started about the damn parking lot. read more
