This place is the worst. They put me in the wrong line twice and wouldn't assist me in what I needed to get done. I highly do not recommend going here unless you like being treated poorly. read more

The employees are so rude! I called requesting information and I was told to hold on. When she came back to the phone she told me go on-line and that she didn't know where on-line but to check the website. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me the supervisor was not available. She then put me on hold....I waited for 5 minutes, and then finally I just hung up. The whole experience was so frustrating. read more

Love the hours, hate every person who works here with the fiery passion of a million exploding suns. It took an hour and half for someone to even begin processing my passport. If you are horrible at your job, at least pretend to be apologetic, don't be a jagbag. read more

Was there on tax return date. The staff are very friendly and they give out free envelopes and stamps!

DO NOT GO HERE. I went to the passport office here at 9:45am since their hours start at 10:00am. I waited for 45 minutes and not a single person showed up at the passport section. At 10:30 I went to the counter where you could mail packages and asked the lady when I could expect someone to show up. She said she didn't know, but I could sit and wait. When I tried to ask to speak with a manager to find out she raised her voice and told me to have a seat. This place is a nightmare. Cringe worthy staff and the worst customer service. read more

Came here for passports. Requirement for new passports is to appear in person. This should simply be a place to submit your paperwork and take the oath. Instead you have families coming in and having the clerk fill out the entire applications and taking the pictures. There is a sheet to sign in but while we were waiting several people skipped in line to have photos taken. This process took FOREVER. How many times do you need to measure your kid? read more

The people that work here are the WORST ever! They are so rude and will not help you with anything. The first time, one worker told me and my husband that they could not assist us with our passports there (even though we had all the documents filled out and they advertise passport services) and after a bit of a snotty attitude (hers) and argument from me, she proceeded to completely help us with all of it. I was appalled, because the whole time she still insisted that I was wrong. Second time, they insisted that I re-tape my box that I had, so I had to buy more tape to do so, then the woman who was supposed to be helping me told me she was done and leaving for the day as I was filling out the customs form (my box weighed 50 pounds and she made me go back to the line - which only had one person in it thank goodness). When I finally got to see someone, the next person then measured the box and said it was too big and they could not mail it. Fair enough - why didn't the first woman measure it instead of having me redo everything right there, buy more tape etc. Secondly, no one was even in line, she couldn't sell me some different boxes or anything? And they are just mean there, they talk down to you and it is apparent that if you show up for any services, you are completely burdening them. read more

I sent an Express mail from Honolulu Hawaii to Chicago on November 8. It was delivered promptly to the wrong address with the wrong person's signature. I spent almost $20.00 to send this via Express mail because the sensitive contents such as my daughters new debit card and other personal information. This is a huge envelope with address and recipient clearly marked. How could this happen? How could we trust our Federal Government and its employees? Are they that incompetent? I went to local post office where I mailed this to get help resolving the problem. You know what? They told me to contact the Chicago post office to deal with the problem. What the hkhkhk? Why can they be like UPS or FedEx? We should privatize whole postal system because in our government, no one is willing to take the responsibility to solve anything. I am not angry about $20.00 that was wasted. I am worried that what might happen to all the information that was delivered to the wrong hand. read more

I have never felt so dehumanized and disrespected in my life. The two postwomen and the manager I spoke with were all obdurate bureaucrats who could not understand that a law textbook is a book that may be shipped "media mail." In fact, I think the problem lied in the fact that they did not understand what a law textbook was. Amazing. All of this would have been fine if they didn't argue with me, ignore me for TEN minutes, and then return to shout at me. I was incredulous. My last words were, "I hope you know that this is why the post office is going out of business." The three women stared at me, shocked, as though they had never heard this news before. I was also shocked, because I had never said something like that to a service person before. It was truly my rage speaking, and not me. It is hard to describe exactly what happened, but suffice it to say that I generally don't take offense to bad service, but this time the post office took a precious part of my innocent soul. I want it back. read more

Today I walked into this post office at 10:30 a.m. Two clerks were at the counter. One was helping a customer; the other wasn't doing anything. Two customers off to the side getting their package ready, but otherwise no line, so I walked to the front and waited to be called. "Can I help you?" "Hi, I need to mail this." "Anything liquid, fragile, or perishable?" "No, it's a book." "Would you like for this to get there in two days, with insurance, and confirmation of delivery?" (trying to sell me the $12.95 service for my $5 book) "No, just whatever is least expensive." "First class is [price, I forget] and priority mail is [another price too expensive to consider]." "Since it's a book, could I send it at the media rate?" "This a book? There's no greeting card, letter, or other paper in this?" "No, just a book." [I lied, there was an Amazon packing slip, but seriously, how can that change whether my book deserves the media rate?] "Are you sure? No advertisement or anything else in here?" "It's just a book." "Well, we'll open it up and look at it so it better just be a book." [Is it not a felony for a postal worker to open other people's mail?!] I get exasperated. "Like I told you, it's just a book." "Alright, well, how are you going to pay for this today?" I hand her my credit card. "I need to see a form of identification with that." I take out my driver's license. "Your card isn't signed. I can't take this." [I purposefully don't sign my cards.] "But I've used this here 25 times before just like this and no one's ever said anything," I tell her. "You need to sign your card." She hands me a permanent marker. Flustered, and enraged at her condescending manner, I start writing on my card. I start writing "PLEASE ..." but I'm interrupted by her. She sneers at me: "You're writing on your magnetic strip. You need to sign there (pointing to different area)." I start writing in the signature box: "PLEASE ASK FOR ID." "You can't write that," she tells me. Since when does a postal worker tell me what I can and can't do with my credit card?! "We don't accept cards that aren't signed." "But I have my ID," I quip. "Doesn't matter! We don't take that. It has to be signed. Now you'll have to pay with cash or check." Since when does a business not accept a credit card that matches a valid form of photo identification?! I pull out $10. She throws my change on the counter. Doesn't even hand it to me. I throw my money in my purse and storm off. Don't tell me the United States Postal Service doesn't employ deplorable individuals who deserve to be laid off. The USPS needs to realize they are a business just like any other. If people like that worked at Starbucks, no one would give Starbucks their money. Starbucks would be forced to close stores, just like the predicament the USPS is facing. If customer service is your industry, you sure as hell better be employing individual with outstanding interpersonal skills. Sadly, this is just one of many terrible interactions I've had with the Cardiss Collins Post Office. I've also been forced to rewrite my return address on the upper left-hand side of envelopes because they "don't mail letters with it written on the back flap." It's not like I'm putting the stamp on the back flap, people. On another occasion, they wouldn't accept my box from home and made me buy one of their expensive boxes instead. And don't get me started on my mailwoman, who I caught in our apartment lobby with the wall of mail boxes open, one foot up on our bench, leaning her arm on her knee while she flipped through a tenant's magazine. How's that for ethics? read more

24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Long gone are the days of trying to rush through the loop Post Office on my lunch break. And, they do passports on Saturdays!! This is amazing. After spending nearly 4 hours in government buildings changing my last name, I am relieved to hear that I can change my passport on a quite Saturday afternoon. There is also free parking in the basement of this location, enter on Harrison. Lastly, the people at the counter are actually very helpful. read more

I agree with Rusty on this one. Im pretty sure its a job requirement to be a complete idiot and/or slug to work at this facility. LOOOONNNGGG wait times and extremely poor customer service. Took us 4 hours to get a passport. FOUR hours to go through 3 customers total ahead of us. This place is a perfect example of government waste and inefficiency. Unfortunately, despite calling the USPS central office, no one seems to do anything - the same idiot/slugs work there everytime I visit. Going to spend the extra fifteen minutes and drive to Lincoln Park or the suburbs. read more

Long lines but the lady doing the passports enjoys her job so it was very pleasant!

WARNING: DO NOT go to this location! It is a huge training facility for new employees. I mailed out a few packages through them TWO WEEKS AGO, within the US on a standard 2-3 delivery service. Have my clients received their packages yet? NO! First time I called to complain about my packages not being shipped, I was placed on hold for 30 minutes. The lady on the phone gave me a case number & specifically told me I will get a call back within 1-3 business days... Just to know why my packages were not sent. I never got a call back. So when I called again, the post office STILL couldn't figure out what was wrong! My packages kept getting sent back to the post office. A representative told me that she "assumes" the bar code to my packages were wrong. It's been TWO WEEKS now and now they are telling me that they can't find my packages, when the tracking number strictly tells me what location they got sent to. They can't find them. Worst post office experience ever. Just avoid this place. There was a supervisor standing over the new employee helping me, and they still messed up my entire shipment. The supervision is very horrible. read more

It's a Post Office, so you gotta get used to the slow service, oddball employees, and decrepit buildings. The Cardiss Collins post office is pretty decent for a post office... the prices (like all post offices) are great -- much cheaper than FedEx. If I could give negative 378838 stars I would. Went to mail a package on a Saturday afternoon as its the only location open after 3pm. The line was very long and moved only painfully slowly. Only two government employees were open. There was a third employee standing around getting paid to do nothing helpful. My wife and I waited in line for 45 minutes. I asked them to seal a box with tape. They said I needed to buy tape for 3.50. I have NEVER paid for tape at the post office. I will now only use FedEx!!!!! read more

This post office wis filled with incompet morons! They appeared helpful and accommodating; however I soon learned this was incorrect. I needed to have my envelopes hand canceled for my wedding and they seemed so cheery and happy to help me. A week later, however, they arrived back at my place in the box I brought them in. When I delivered them I asked if I should take them out of the box so they could be hand canceled and the woman behind the desk said to leave them in the box. Then apparently these idiots at the post office sealed the box up and delivered it to my apartment. I honestly didn't think it was possible to be that dumb and yet I stand corrected! Now I have to resend my invitations out but trust me I will go to any other post office before going back there. read more

I know you can't expect much but going on 3 hours waiting for a passport is just unreal. Brutal. Plan ahead..

Do not come to this passport location. We have been here for about an hour waiting with about 12 other people and at 12:20 pm the clerk just disappears. No explanation, just disappears. I guess she decided to go to lunch. No sign, no announcement. There is nothing on the website to indicate the office is closed for lunch. Who does that? Here are your tax dollars at work. No respect for people's time. Stay away from this location. read more

I went in yesterday to buy a money order and send a document. There were about six people in line when I arrived and two people working so I figured that I'd be out quick. After 45 minutes I was still waiting and there was only one person working. Then a woman started shouting and was very upset about the extensive wait but the worker kept his cool. This place is extremely understaffed during peak hours but at least the workers are nice. Management needs to place more workers during busy periods and simply have more than just one person working the front desk. read more

I do NOT recommend going here for passports. First, it is not clear where to go and where to wait. There was one person in front of me. We were told to sign in and wait in this area where there were no workers. After about fifteen minutes, I asked a worker there if we were in the right spot. She said yes. We then waited another ten minutes. Then the other woman went up to the counter to ask if we were in the right place and was told to wait in a different line. After about 45 minutes, I finally got my turn. I told her I was there for a passport renewal in person because I had a name change and had my original Mexican wedding documents with me and didn't want to lose them. After she took my application and gave me the wrong amount for the check, which I had to void and rewrite, I was sent to get my picture taken. Thank goodness I mentioned to the young girl who was taking my picture -- who happened to be the only one who worked there who seemed like she even cared -- that I was surprised they didn't look at my wedding documents or social security card with my new name. She then asked, you have a name change? I said yes so she advised me to go back up to the counter to the person who originally took my application to make sure she didn't need anything else. Sure enough, the original person did not catch the name change and needed to take my original Mexico documents to submit. pretty scary in this world with the way things are that something like that wasn't caught. So it turned out to be an hour and a half of wasted time because it turned out I could have done it through the mail anyway bc they kept my originals. I think what bothers me the most is that they don't seem to care how long you wait or how inconvenient they make it for you. read more

Came here to apply for a passport for our toddler. Advertised passport service hours are from 10 am and we arrived at 10:35. There were 5 people, including a toddler, already in the waiting room and they said nobody had come over to help since they'd arrived. I finally asked the woman at the counter if she could give me an estimate of when we'd be helped - again, have a toddler here - and she said that someone would be there soon. I said we'd been there for a half hour and no one had been helped. She said they do passports as a "courtesy" and have to help regular customers first. Looking at the huge line, I said "you're not going to help us until the line is empty?" She said I could come back, they're there till 6. I said "how do I know you'll help us then??" She had some remark back, which I don't remember b/c I was walking away fuming. Husband made us stay, but I was so mad. When we were helped, luckily it wasn't by her, and the person was very nice. She would get 5 stars. We left an hour and 20 minutes after arriving. Thanks for the "courtesy" USPS. I expect nothing more. read more

if I could give negative stars, I would. this is a horribly, horribly run post office. with terrible managers who should be fired. they have misplaced a package of mine on several occasions. the last time it was a 500 dollar package. the tracking information said that it was delivered, however there was no package at my door. when I attempted to call them, I was told several times that the phone number isn't correct and I was reaching the shipping office or the business office and kept getting transfered. when i did get a hold of a customer service representative and explained to her my situation and frustration she basicslly yelled at me and said the package was scanned as delivered because an attempt was made and it couldnt be left in a safe location and it will get delivered the next day. I asked her why I didn't get a notice about it being delivered and she said they don't leave notices, which cannot be true because I have received notices from the post office about made attempts before. I finally went down there to speak with a manager and was told they don't do that by an employee. I came back the day after after trying to again reach someone by phone and was told that there is a manager but she has only specific hours that she deals with customers and to come back during those hours. I was also given her number and left a complaint about a lost package. I called the number and left two messages, never heard from this lady. had to file a dispute with the credit card company to get the money back. I would really suggest anyone who has to deal with this post office find another, more reliable way to ship/receive packages. read more
