I get it, the rules have changed. Still, you don't treat people like this. I'm a disabled veteran. I can get on base with my ID card, I can use the exchange/commissary, I can even fly space A within the United States and its territories. Today, I'm flying commercial out of terminal one at HNL, and I go through security, only to find out that the USO is in terminal two outside security. I thought it would be nice if I could grab a bite to eat, and possibly take a shower before my nine hour flight. So I catch the shuttle and I go over there. I ring the bell, and this lady comes to the door. She looks at my ID, and she says I can't let you in. I explained I've used the USO in the past, and I'm even in their computer system. So she looks back to who I assume is the boss, who is making lunch, and says as loud as she can, HEY, JERRY.... I GOT A 100% DISABLED VETERAN! " and of course, a bunch of people look over toward me... Well, that was embarrassing. Jerry, who's making lunch, doesn't even bother to look up. He just shakes his head and waves me off, like.... "Sorry..." I screwed up my body serving this country, and I should be allowed to use the USO. They allow retired military to use the USO, but they are not serving anymore If they have limited funds, and I can't use it anymore like I used to, that's fine. Maybe they could charge a small admission fee for disabled veterans to help cover the cost Regardless, they could be nicer about it. It's nice to know that at least this USO, they treat their veterans as nice as they treat their active duty and retired people..(said with sarcastic overtones...) read more

I'm so grateful for the volunteers at the USO Honolulu. They were an incredible help ahead of my travels to visit my active duty spouse in South Korea. This location is incredibly clean, well-stocked, and filled with tons of activities for all ages. It was a great way for me to relax and gather my thoughts ahead of a 11 hour flight. They provide guests to the USO with complimentary iced tea, hot coffee, water, bagels, muffins, and a few other treats. There's about a dozen puzzles to choose from to keep yourself busy. Televisions, computers, free WiFi and lots of other fun stuff. Another incredibly thoughtful addition was the feminine products and basic necessities they provide like toothbrushes and razors. I really appreciated the quiet place to unwind and get away from the large crowds at the airport. read more

USO-HNL is located on the ground floor between Baggage claims G & H, near the escalator leading from the ground to Lobbies 5 & 6. Normally its not a must-go stop when I fly on my preferred carrier. But I sometimes have to fly another carrier. It definitely came in handy when I got my check in time mixed up and got to the airport 6 hours prior! They offer a complete list of basic amenities: media room; counter & bar tables; recharging stations; internet terminals & printers; showers; a canteen with snacks, beverages, or meals; and information services. Used to use the USO often when I started out in the military and during deployments, a nice alternative in airports! Definitely keep it in mind for future trips! Repeat and recommend! read more

No mind you I've been serving in The NAVY close to 30 years, been to ALOT of USO ACROSS THE WORLD. This one at the Airport is possibly the worst every time I come here. Staff is not trained on customer service, I was asked if I had headphones for my phone, I was like is there headphones for the main TV BLASTING? The food here has gone down hill. They have cleaned this place up a little. I feel like I am being monitored in here. This is not a relaxed feeling being in here. I am usually a huge fan of USO but this location made it extremely inconvenient when traveling with my family. I've been to a number of USOs when traveling with my parents and they've allowed them entry with me sponsoring them but this location does not allow it. They wouldn't even allow me to sponsor my husband who is active as well and lost his ID on travel. What a waste of resources that supposed to be used to support military AND their families on travel. read more

I don't know why people give less than 5 stars to a free and I say free place to stay and chill before your flight. I don't get why people are so entitled to complain about a service provided for us for free. The food is free ..chips,water, muffin and some hot items food. What is USO Hawaii? It's an acronym for United Service Organization and basically it provides morale, welfare and recreation for U.S. military troops and their family. Up until today I didn't know that Hawaii had one. Where is this USO Center? It's located at the Honolulu International Airport. Best way to get there is to drive up the Departure Ramp and find parking either on the second or fourth floor of the parking garage (nearest the sky bridge). Walk across the sky bridge and no matter what floor you're on - press 1 to the baggage claim area. USO Hawaii is located between Baggage claim E and F by the elevators and indirectly below the Starbucks on the second floor. Like all the other reviews indicate there are amenities and services that make the weary U.S. military traveler (and their dependents & family) feel more comfortable during their temporary stay at the airport. This is especially helpful when their time at the airport is lengthy. My son was dropped off at the airport roughly around 1:00 pm and was expected to stay (and not leave) the airport until his flight departs at 8:00 pm. That's a long time to be at any airport but somehow that is the process for military recruits preparing to depart for Basic Military Training. Thank goodness for the USO!! I was able to comfortably visit with him at the USO before he deployed for training. I could tell that just by having someplace comfortable and relaxing put my son (and myself) at ease before the rigors of basic training. There are recliners, snacks, clean bathrooms and computers as well as a outlets to charge your electronic devices. read more

How I wished the rest of the Airport would look like. Why? Modern, relaxing, Aloha spirit service and no leaky ceilings and cracking walls/floors. USO Hawaii is set up to take care of Active Duty/Retired/Families and other beneficiaries leaving or arriving to Daniel Inouye International Airport. A nice place to relax and grab a snack before a flight, take a nap because of a long lay over or wait for a ride. Like the many other USOs, they run strictly on donations and many volunteers. I like this location better than most. Facilities look new and well kept. The volunteers were very welcoming. Numerous couches to relax on and the WiFi is decent. You will never leave hungry. Sandwiches, noodles, pastries to go snacks and drinks. If arriving with a platoon sized unit call ahead so they can have stuff ready for your arrival. I came here while I was waiting for many hours for my bf to get off work and pick me up. The volunteer staff here are very welcoming and accommodating! They have plenty of snacks available (granola bars, chips, pastries, bagels, etc), and they even had a hot meal served for dinner. I guess they do hot dogs on Friday's, so that's what I had. They have coffee and sodas. I felt like the volunteers go out of their way to make us feel appreciated and in return, I really appreciated them. The AC was nice, free WiFi, a few power outlets, comfy chairs, just a nice quiet and homey place to relax while waiting for a ride or a flight. Way better than waiting in the loud, bright, uncomfortable terminals. There's a tv that had sports playing on it, they'll change it at your request. My son left this week for Basic training with the Army National Guard & we spent a lot of time in this wonderful center before he departed !!! We were able to hang out with him surrounded by ALOHA !!! The U S O provides support to the military & their families arriving to, departing from or transitioning through Hawaii. Services include entertainment, gaming, internet, information & referral, as well as keiki rooms & complimentary pastries & coffee. All staffed by volunteers ... open 16 hours a day everyday of the year !! ** very grateful for these centers -my son spent another whole day in the Georgia U S O center. My husband and I walked to the USO and rang the door bell. A women barely cracked the door and stuck out her head. She didn't say anything so I showed her my military ID and then she asked me to prove that my husband and I are actually married because he doesn't have a dependent ID. She said she could only accept official documents such as a marriage license or dependent ID. We were turned away. I've never had a negative experience at a USO and this was just ridiculous. Even when we were just dating we've always been allowed in USOs together. USOs are supposed to be inviting to military families and we felt extremely unwelcome. I absolutely love this place. It's my first time experiencing what it's like to be in the USO for it's only since I've been married that I'm able to enter military areas. It is a bit difficult to find if it's your first time there. Must use your military ID and show it in front of a slight camera in order to get past the doors. It doesn't look like much from the outside but so spacious with lots of comfy seats. Plenty of computers to use. Free WiFi. Much variety of foods and drinks. My husband and I came here while waiting for time to go check-in. I had been awake many hours ago. After having a nice cup of hot coffee, a small bowl of fried rice, and water, I used one of the big sofa seats, kicked back my feet and passed out. It was that comfy. My husband didn't even bother to wake me up until it was near time to head to check-in. The bathroom is huge. I was surprised there was even a TV in there even though it was off. The workers there are very nice and welcoming. Can't wait to come back here again. read more

A lifesaver when you are PCSing. We faced a long wait time while PCSing our family from Pearl. The USO offered us a great place to hang out and rest after a crazy day of checking out of housing, shipping our pets and turning in our rental car. They have space for you to store your 500 pieces of luggage and a great family room for everyone to sprawl out together. Super friendly and helpful volunteers, free drinks and food. Super small USO located just outside of security of the Honolulu airport. It's extremely close quarters but the staff I met were wonderful! I absolutely enjoyed my time there, they had fixed snacks, sandwiches, made a hot cocoa bar in light of the holiday and even provided blankets to take with us. They have one large telly, a few computers, a charging station, and two off shoot rooms for familys with the little ones. they also have a family restroom and a shower. read more

First thing I noticed when I stepped in was how friendly the staff was. They offered me a tour of the whole USO, but I told them that this wasn't my first time here. With that being said, I went straight for the showers because I just got off an 11 hour flight from Japan. The shower room was clean and had a little more than 10 newly dried towels. It also offered a variety of shampoo and body wash to choose from. After my shower, I went straight for the food they were offering, which was bbq meatballs and rice that day I came in. They also offered cup of noodles, snacks like chips or granola bars, all sorts of soda, coffee, juice, and water. After snacking, I decided to rest on the recliner chairs until my flight was ready to board. They also have a wide screen tv and many outlets for you to charge your phone or any other electronics. They also offer free WiFi so that you don't use up your whole data plan for the month. Overall, I give this place a 5/5 because it was more than convenient and a very relaxing area before a flight. read more

I have been to several USO throughout the country. It is on the smaller side, but has all of the amenities your average USO. There is a large flat screen television in the sitting area along with six recliners. A quiet sleeping area with blankets and cots are located in the back. If you want to freshen up there are showers too. They even provide fresh towels and travel size toiletries at not cost. Six computers that are connected to a printer are available for Internet usage. Super fast wifi is another option is you have your own gadgets you would like to use instead. read more
