This review is strictly about passport experience. Where can you get a U.S. passport these days? Driving to country Waialua post office may not be a bad idea. Honestly, it's very difficult to get appointments with other post offices in central area. After searching on https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html it lead me to post office appointment website which is https://tools.usps.com/rcas.htm You can only schedule a month out so keep checking and be patient. It was also vague if Waialua post office offers photo. But yes, they can help you with photo for $15 additional. I did go to CVS for the passport photo for $16 just in case it wasn't available. Waialua post office opens at 10am so if your appointment is before that wait around and someone will come and get you. There's also a button near the entrance if you need to speak to someone. The gentleman who helped us was super professional and efficient. It was for me and my husband and it took roughly about half an hour. Now, I just have to wait for it in the mail. read more

Quite surprised to find an open appointment for passports so soon. And on the central side AND on a Saturday!? #winning Two working parents, we both could not make it during the appt timeframe so Saturday worked best. Since Costco is currently not taking photos of infants, this spot worked out. A little pricier but whatevz, I need them done now. Both parents need to be there to sign the forms and the lady must witness the signatures. I brought along copies of the birth certificate but she ended up taking the original too. It will supposedly be mailed back.. They aren't offering expedited services. Though if you provide evidence of a life/death sitch, you have priority. Melba is hard working! I don't know her personally, but we've been in touch several phone calls prior to my appt. She called me to see if I could come in a couple hours earlier than my scheduled appt. I confirmed and she pushed back her lunch break. The door was locked when we arrived but we knocked and waited patiently. She acknowledged us and soon came to unlock the door. She was patient to get the right angle of my 10month old model lol. Our paperwork was processed and Melba ensured everything was filled out properly. I believe they aren't open regularly on Saturdays but I asked if I could mail my passport and she kindly rang me up. For first time applicants (including if you received a passport before 16/ or lost it): Bring these to your appt: -Copy & original Birth Certificate -copy of ID -filled out DS-11 form Under 16: -Copy & original birth certificate -copy of both parents ID -filled out DS-11 form except don't do signature yet If divorced, see the form instructions. The Waialua Post Office location for passport services is awesome! If you search online for other passport service locations they either have 1) very limited days offered for services, so very limited and far out days available, or 2) services offered 5 to 6 days/wk but very limited appointment times open until almost 2 months out. I was shocked to find this north county, country location had the best availability - next week! I could get there during the day from my Waipahu location in only 30 minutes and the appointment time required only 30 minutes for the two applications being made. It all seemed too good to be true. But I prepared well, I thought, for my appointment and proceeded forth on that day. Got to the Post Office 25 minutes early, yeah! Looked for my application folder - panic! It's not in the car - realized I walked out the house without it! After a panicked phone call home got my husband to meet me half-way, near the Schofield Army Base, with the package and I got back to Waialua Post Office at 11:40. My appointment was for 11:30. I went in, only one customer being served, told the postal worker I was there for passport services, he called out to the back and a smiling lady came forward and greeted me. I apologized for being late and told her I hoped she could still take me and she said no problem. She was efficient and polite. I had forgotten to bring photocopies of my personal ID (drivers license) and birth certificate. No problem. They make them there for a minimal fee. They also can provide passport photos but I'd brought my own. I was able to pay for expedited service, the postal service processing fee and a postal money order to the US agency that actually issues the passport using my debit card (no credit cards allowed). I asked for the kind lady's name again and she said with a laugh, "Melba, like the toast."I told her, "No, like the great singer Melba Moore!" She didn't know that reference but I told her to look on YouTube and that every time I thought about today's experience I would remember my Melba Moore in Waialua. I was done and out of there by 12 noon thanks to Melba's kindness and efficiency! Great job Melba! I told her I would need to return and repeat this process for my granddaughter after we received her birth certificate from the mainland. Melba walked me briefly through that process for a minor to insure I'd be prepared. All in all, a pleasurable and worthwhile experience! Alright, are all of these ratings for Waialua or Waialae? I keep seeing posts about Kahala and Kahala Mall and let me tell you, this ain't Kahala! (I'm preserving that ungrammatically-correct word that will probably disappear due to spell-checks in the future). This is the country where chickens roam and people drive 25! Only certain post offices offer passport services and this was one of them; we made the trip from Mililani because they keep hanging up on you when you call them. This post office has the absolute most helpful people on the phone and they answer promptly. They give you step by step details on what to bring and how to avoid extra charges. One clerk told me I could schedule an appointment online; another clerk did not tell me that so it pays to talk to more than one person to get information. We were here yesterday to get our passports. They opened at 10 AM. The passport section didn't open until 10:10...so Waialua Time! Actually, the passport lady didn't show up. A guy postal clerk helped us from the window when he saw the absent passport lady. I wonder if she was hung over from too much lilikoi punch? When we went to pay another lady at the window helped us. She was really getting upset at us because we didn't know how to fill out the money order but later she regained her composure and thanked us as we left. This post office runs hot and cold, nice and mean, prompt and late. It has a dual personality that I find strangely unsettling. Paalaakai Bakery was right down the street so I didn't mind making the trip out to the country, plus I had to eat something sweet to get rid of the yucky mana I picked up from stapler-lady. read more

Please beware: if you move from a Haleiwa address to elsewhere you can NOT be sure that your forwarding order will be honored. I even had an employee of the post office admit that only the main carrier knows of the forwarding order, but any substitutes don't. Is it me, or am I the only person that misses making fun of government employees? Ok I also make fun of City & County workers too. Seriously. DMV was the place that we used to go to spend our hard earned money, be treated like dirt, and stand in line all day because some moron told us that driving was a privilege. The Post Office was the "RED HEADED STEPCHILD", and we all made sport of the temperamental uneducated time bombs that talked to us like we were all doing them a favor by purchasing overpriced stamps, and shipping fruitcakes. Hence the term "GOING POSTAL" on someone, explained in a nutshell that something very bad was gonna happen. The post office knows that their days are numbered, and need to make things better and more convenient for us. Let's face it, they will not be around much longer. Period, end of story. Everything in the future will be paperless, and FedEx or UPS will be the only ones left around to ship our large items. I arrive at this location the other day, and the first thing that I noticed when I walked in was the line. It must of been twenty people long. Apparently I wasn't the only loser in Kahala standing in this long line. At any rate. The clerk windows were missing two bodies and could have moved things along if Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum weren't in the back watching reruns of K-dramas. Some Boss Lady steps up and relives us all of our misery. She called me to the front of the line because I had a pick up slip. So now I'm feeling bad about the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum comment which I had mentally filed three minutes earlier because the girl in front of me looked like Mila Kunis . Amazing how easily one can get distracted huh. She (my postal boss lady clerk), was not only friendly, fast, and efficient, but had the nerve to as me how my day was going. Hello. WTH. Aren't these people supposed to be rude and uncaring in order to get this job ?! Then she has the nerve to tell me to have a good day. This person is THE woMAN. She, (let's call her Mrs Snoop Dog), had me in and out in record time. Finally, a business that has turned itself around, and redeemed themselves. Easy parking in their private lot or on the street if it gets crowded. If you're not lazy you can park at Kahala Mall and do the short walk as i've been told is good for the heart. The building is very clean, and offers tons of P.O. Boxes, shipping supplies, and other miscellaneous stuff. I'll do more business with these people, and cant thank them enough. I realize everyone has different interactions with people, that being said you can only view my review as just that, my interaction. All of the reviews about Melba make her out to a demon. That's not the case from what I see. Customer service: Melba was very helpful with me and polite as I was treating her with the same respect. Ok, so obviously post offices do all the same things, right? But what I look for in a post office is the quality of service, which in my experience is apparently a difficult thing to find! That's one of the reasons why I love this post office. This location has friendly employees that are always pleasant and willing to answer any of my questions. I have never had a bad experience here. They greet me with a friendly smile and are always trying to help me save money on postage by suggesting other ways i could mail my items (such as a flat rate envelope for things that are heavy). This station also has an automated postage center, where you can mail items even when the post office is closed. Its really convenient! It's also a fairly large post office, so the line moves pretty quickly. They also provide passport services and money order services as well. Gotta say, this place is 2 thumbs up! read more

i have a post office box here and its super convenient to drive by and pick up mail, It seems as if the access is 24 hours as I have never found the door locked. Try to go between 9 and 10am and 2 and 4pm to avoid crowds if you are going to the counter. The clerks are happy and helpful and willing to answer my dumb questions, but I think they are limiting me to one dumb one a day now. If you are mailing an envelope, use the drive though box as they pick up the mail more often there. read more

Ah, my neighborhood post office. Love coming here to send mail when that's how it was before email and the computer. Still can come here to mail care packages to friends and family on the mainland. Love the postal clerks who bring smiles to everyone who walks in the door. The conveience of the automated post office machine helps soo much after hours when you got to send something uber fast, and the post office is closed for the evening. The good part is that there's a private lot for post office patrons and a drive thru thingy too, if you are passing buy. They have post office boxes if you need that too. I'm not sure if they do US Passport photos too, so you'll need to check, if you need one. Great service! read more

Since moving to Kaimuki, this post office next to Kahala Mall has been my neighborhood post office. I was hesitant at first, but found this place to be just as friendly as my former post office -- which, btw, is still my post office bc of my PO Box... Anyway, I don't mind going to here to pick up packages or whatever bc every trip is a quick and pleasant experience. The workers are always smiling and really efficient. They also always ask if I need stamps, which is a huge help bc I often do. The parking lot is rough during peak hours, like any post office, but at least there's enough stalls to accommodate a decent amount of cars. I haven't really had to really wait around for parking, so I'm thankful for that. I found that if there's a long line inside the post office, the mail clerks will call for the pick-up slips to help alleviate the line. I love it bc I'm usually one of those people who get in and out bc of that. Hallelujah for not having to wait in a horrid line just to pick up a package. Great service.... for a post office! Although this is a busy post office, the lines move pretty quickly. The postmen are very courteous and the other patrons are nice also. I have needed a pen (yes, #teacherfail) a couple of times and everyone has offered to let me borrow theirs without complaint or rolled eyes. This Post Office station serves Kahala/Kaimuki neighborhoods. Because it serves a large constituency, it gets really crowded during peak hours. First off, the staff here is amazing, so my 2 stars are not in criticism of them. I've only ever experienced friendly, professional staff--some of whom I've become pretty friendly with during my many trips there. I'm also glad there is an automated self-service machine in the foyer/PO Box lobby for when the actual post office backed up out the door (which is pretty often). There's usually ample free postal supplies in the lobby and at table, but most of the Priority and Flat Rate boxes and envelopes are actually located within the post office itself, so when the station is closed, you may not have access to your shipping supplies if you come in just looking to use the self-service in the lobby. The hours are pretty terrible on the weekdays, compared to other Post Offices, 9:00AM - 4:30PM M-F. However, their Saturday hours are pretty good, being open from 9:00AM - 3PM. Given their weekday hours, though, it's not very convenient for people who work 8-5 jobs. Thankfully the Saturday Hours kind of make up for it. But, because of the limited business hours, when it's rush hour, you'll be lined out the door. The parking lot is pretty tight and is right on a corner driveway shared with a condo building and the mall, so during rush hour, trying to make a turn into the lot can be a bit harrowing. I come here because it's conveniently located for my office, and I've really gotten attached to most of the Post Officers working here. Everyone is so nice and friendly. If only the hours and the congestion issue (seriously, it's like traffic) weren't issues...! read more

Went in today for passport services. I came a little early for my appointment and asked if it was alright to get to it, but was refused and told me to come back when it was actually the time I reserved to go, so I pretty much waited in my car for like 10 minutes then went back in to go do it. Once the wait was over, the process basically took like 15 minutes to get done since I brought all the necessary paperwork. I forgot my checkbook for that fee to send over, so the worker suggested me to make a money order through my debit card. So Service was decent, I got what I needed to get done in a reasonable amount of time. That's pretty much all I gotta say bout this Post Office. It was Okay. Numerous incidents of mishandling, misdelivery and interchanging of mail & packages in our area. They don't pick up "mailing service" even you put the red flag up on your mailbox. I lost a very important document that I paid $5000 for lawyer's fee and $300 application fee. It has tracking number but disappeared several months ago. I called our local post office numerous times from 10 am up until 12 noon but they never picked up. I reported this to the post master and he didn't say a thing. The post office, upon filing a complaint/incident report about my lost mail, blame it to the thieves and me, for not reporting it when it was stolen? How are we going to know if it gets stolen? There was no delivery confirmation from the post office? But they disregard the reality that packages and mail get lost due to misdelivery (delivered to different address) and mishandling. We experience always getting mail in our box that has different names, different address with same house number. We also get mail from the street next to ours with same house numbers. Tracking number is not a guarantee that you will get your mail and packages 100% and if it's lost, just shrug your shoulders and blame the thieves. There is no admission of guilt or sense of responsibility on their side at all! Haist! I filed an incident report to the Postal Inspection Service and hoping that they will mediate to resolve the mail servicing problem that exists many years ago in our area. read more

We made a passport appointment several weeks in advance, and 2 hours before the scheduled time a woman called me to tell me they had to cancel our appointment due to an emergency. Ok fine, but when is the next available? "Oh you'll have to go online and make it". Really? I didn't want to make another one at this location in case they decide to cancel again last minute, my boyfriend already pulled strings to get out of work to get this taken care of, but all the offices earliest appointments were 3 weeks out! Good thing we started the process with plenty of cushion on time or we might have had to pay extra to expedite it! We ended up walking in to the airport location, and even though they were done taking walk ins for the day (although it was in the beginning of walk in hours) I explained to the guy what happened and he helped us get our passports. He said he's never heard of anyone canceling a passport appointment like that. Save yourself the trouble and go to a different post office. read more

Yeah, never again. I had to ship out an item from an Ebay auction, and the clerk at the register didn't seem to know what he was doing, nor what the term "Standard Shipping" meant. I had to ask repeatedly for a tracking number, which I found out when I got home that it didn't work. So that warranted a call to the same post office, which then I was greeted on the phone by a disgruntled female employee who kept sighing and was generally rude and obnoxious, asking me to "read what is on the receipt." Just so you know, the receipt is about my arms length, with small font everywhere. I ask her what I should be looking for on the receipt, she says she "doesn't know" and "just read it aloud". This is a review of the Kahala location. Pros: parking, near Kahala Mall. Cons: incompetent workers. Some are okay, but the there is a female clerk that is totally incompetent. They loose my package that was delivered to the post office. How can you loose a package within the building? The worst part is that the clerk tells me that I need a USPS tracking number that was on my FedEx package so that she can look up for it! I don't know how long she has been working there. 1. FedEx does not provide with USPS tracking number. 2. If USPS had added a tracking number upon acceptance of the package from FedEx, how would I or FedEx know of the number? Do they have any training programs? Or Training an incompetent person is impossible? Any suggestions for PO Box option in other place? Not saying all people who work here are terrible but the woman I encountered had shoulder length hair and glasses and she was extremely rude to me and unprofessional. Manager is a jerk to me. There always an extra bit of hassle and issues with even the simplest stuff. I've gotten overcharged for things, late deliveries, lost mail, pick-up issues for friends who signed the paper and he wants extra proof, etc. This place always seems to be more hassle than it's worth. Maybe it's cursed on me or something but I've learned to avoid this place whenever possible. My two favorites are Kaimuki and Saratoga. Kaimuki is friendly and Saratoga has whatever I need and gets the job done. read more

Post offices are generally not the most pleasant places to be, but trying to get anything done at the Kahala USPS branch is a lost cause. First of all, they are completely understaffed which always results to long lines. Maybe even more importantly, customer service is a total hit or miss. I'm not the type of person who subscribes to the philosophy that the customer is always right, and I don't exepect anyone to cater to my every whim, but I don't think it's too much to expect people to be polite to each other, regardless of your position in front of or behind the counter. I've had workers at this post office be outright condescending and rude to me. This is probably partially the management's fault, and yes I can see why someone won't take the time to listen to more than one question when the line is out the door. But honestly, I've waited in that line just like anyone else, and there's no reason not to at least make an effort to help me. For anyone interested in details, I was trying to ship some heavy and large pre-paid boxes internationally, which would not have fit on the drop-off counter, and after an impatient attempt to tell me to just leave them on the counter - which was impossible - the worker told me to just leave them on some cart out in the back. Yes because I'll leave boxes that I've paid hundreds of dollars for in postage outside unattended where anyone could just help himself to my belongings. I ended up dropping my boxes at the Ala Moana post office, where the workers were not only much more helpful but actually friendly throughout the whole process. Bottom line, don't go to Kahala for anything that's really important to you. Just dropping off a letter is fine, and some of the workers are very nice and helpful, but you're out of luck if you end up with someone who's had a bad day. read more
