The staff at this post office are efficient and good and helpful. Some of the customers seem to blatantly ignore the sign that is hung inside - no dogs allowed unless it's a service dog. My experience yesterday left me feeling scared and unsafe, including two kids who seem to have been shook up by two different dogs brought in by two different customers. One particular dog was big and sort of jumped at a man as he was exiting and the owner disregarded the sign about no dogs. The second dog was a waggy-long leash hairy dog going and sniffing people... and the wonder didn't do anything. The kids were shuffling trying to avoid the dog. People with dogs: please respect signs, please respect others space and keep your dog on a short leash. read more

I needed to drop off a package and some mail before picking up lunch. It's a very small post office. When I arrived, there were 8 people ahead of me and only one postal worker at the counter. I wasn't sure if I should wait it out or leave. Luckily another postal employee came to help. The started moving faster. I was there for about 20 minutes before I was done. One of the employees, that arrived to help, was being very rude to the customers. It was completely obvious she didn't like her job. How sad. I came with a bag of gifts to send to my nephews who all live on the east coast. There were two USPS employees upon entrance. One greeted me and was very quick to assist me. She recommended what I should send my items in and helped me through the process although I've done this before. Both employees had a sense of humor and very friendly. It's not everyday that a new post office opens. The post office on 141 South Taaffe street near the railroad tracks in downtown Sunnyvale closed April 19, 2019, moving to 510C East El Camino Real between Mathilda and Fair Oaks in August 2019. All the pictures on Yelp are of the Taaffe street post office in zip code 94086. Mine are the first of the new location in zip code 94087. Doesn't affect me much as about the only reasons for coming to the post office are to purchase stamps. I don't need stamps very often, except for mailing tax payments and property tax payments. Everything else is done by paying bills through my Bank online. Don't have any friends or relatives that I send packages for Christmas to. 40 minute round trip walk to the post office on Fremont Ave, and a 40 minute round trip walk to the old Taaffe street post office. But only a 20 minute round trip walk to this new location on El Camino Real. Today July 14, I come to mail in person three checks: money to the federal government due for my 2019 return, 1st and 2nd quarterly tax payments for 2020 feds, and 1st and 2nd quarterly tax payments for 2020 state. CA wants 70% of your total tax payments for the year in the 1st and 2nd quarterly payments. Line of about 30 people stretching down the block, 6 feet apart, wearing masks. All of them are here to mail their tax returns by certified mail. Without a doubt, the longest line ever for this tiny postcard sized post office. Post office mail box outside with mail pickups 2:30pm and 5pm weekdays. If you come after 5pm on July 15, go to the main Sunnyvale post office on Caribbean Ave. to mail your tax return. Your federal and state governments need the $40k tax money collected from me today to make up for revenue collection deficits from closed businesses and unemployed workers, and increased spending on health costs and unemployment benefits related to the coronavirus. This post office opened in August 2019, and today July 14, 2020 is the first time I visited the place, closest post office to my house. Next door is Hertz rent a car store. Hertz has gone bankrupt, so maybe the post office can expand from a mouse size post office into a real post office. 4 stars for better location for me, but then I haven't yet had to get face-to-face service. read more

Had a similar experience to what Julie experienced; Jasvir refused to take a return package with a QR code because it wasn't sealed shut and then, when asked if she had tape, said that they only sell tape. In a United States Postal Services store. It would have wasted less of her own time and cost her nothing to simply use a square off the tape gun that they have at the store, but for whatever reason she chose to waste both of our time and be rude. I needed to renew my passport, and unfortunately they do not do it as this location, but rather than just shooing me away and telling me to go to the main office Eveth helped me out so much! Eveth went out of her way to explain the process to me and gave me two applications. She told me I would need a check for payment when I apply. She also mentioned I can make an appointment online. She was so caring and thoughtful, I really appreciated her customer service and knowledge. Also everything inside is organized and very clean! read more

Issue we have with this post office is if using desk you either get a super friendly member or one that makes you feel like a prisoner , not what I want when still using the post office to help keep them afloat. As for self service machines a high rate of down time or limited service. If it wasn't for the super friendly members it would be 2 star. Try to get any other associate other than Jasvir. I came into the store with an open package because my QR code said I don't need to pack up the product I just need to bring it in and USPS would take care of the rest. I told her this and she said there's no such thing, which if this is the case it's not a big deal. I told her what I read and was looking for where I read it and she kept saying I don't like repeating myself and started raising her voice like I was her child or something. I told her I don't appreciate her raising her voice and she was still kind of yelling at me saying you're not listening to me. I was just trying to find where I read it, and truly if it's not the case then it wasn't a big deal but do not appreciate a store associate yelling at me in front of other customers to make her point. Yup, it's an old building with dreary interiors and overworked staff. There was such a long queue of people waiting. When it was finally my turn, I realized the line moved slowly because the staff member, Violet, was so patient. She probably realized I don't go to the post office too often and took her time helping me and answering my questions -- five stars for her. I wish there were more staff members available so that the line would move quicker. A 2-minute job doesn't need to take ten times longer. read more

Was here 3 years ago , but dropped off a package two weeks ago and it was just as bad . They managed to lose my package . I was sending out a prepaid package , the line was so long so I thought it would just be fine to leave it at the counter where all the prepaid packages were, but that was a mistake. The lady working there said it should be fine to leave . I should have stood in the long line and gotten a tracking number with the chance it would get lost and surely it did . I visited this location today after procrastinating and dreading a return for a Fitbit. I also had to send two other things while I was there, and I really didn't know what I was doing with any of them. Eveth was working there and was super helpful though! She even made sure I had separate receipts for the return vs the other things so that if I have to share the receipt with Fitbit they're less likely to be confused (which I value right now). Really disappointed in service since they moved to this location. I went yesterday (6/8) and There was only one employee working the counter while the line stretched the length of the plaza. When I finally did make it inside, another customer started openly spraying something everywhere that cause me breathing issues. It's already hard enough to breathe with a mask on, but adding some overly potent spray was the cherry on top. I'm extremely obviously struggling with the smell, coughing and breathing heavy, when the customer looks at me and sprays more. Both clerks that were there glared at me but said nothing to the woman. In such a small space there shouldn't be mystery sprays used so openly. Whatever it was caused me respiratory distress and a migraine that has carried over to the next day. read more

There is a phone number for this post office branch, but the employees don't answer it. And after a few rings, it switches over to its fax mode. Consistently. There is endless free parking in the garage across the street from the post office. There are usually two clerks available-- both of them so slow that I find them infuriating. Because they're so slow, they can produce quite a queue of customers. However, the location of the main post office (which moved from Maude and Mary) includes only 10 parking spots and you can't park at the curb. So, at that post office, the queue is a queue of cars along the curb of the street. Sunnyvale probably turned a blind eye to this guaranteed traffic congestion because they were getting $$$ from Apple for their new building atop the bulldozed post office building. Given the financial disaster that is the USPS, there is still no excuse for hiring and retaining incompetent employees. But I am quite sure the USPS has no idea just how incompetent the clerks at the 94086 facility are. read more

This is a lame post office: 1. I have a PO BOX there and pretty much every time I take my mail out, I find mail for someone else delivered to my PO BOX. I don't mind that, as I'm a good guy and would bring the mail to the clerks and notify them (to which they reply "We make mistakes, we're human), but what if they deliver MY mail to someone else, and they're a scumbag? 2. On Tax Day, this office closes at some ridiculously early hour, like 5pm. read more

People rarely visit the post office out of more than necessity these days. Sadly the people who work here seem miserable and that rubs off on the customers quickly. I needed to ship something that already had postage paid, but needed a free USPS box (not flat rate) and none were out and readily available for customers. I had to wait in a 20+ minute line only to have the woman give me an annoyed look and grab me a box from the wall behind the service counter. I then had the opportunity to wrap my box, and get back in another 20+ minute line to hand it off to her to ship it out. Overly annoying process. If you need a regular (non flat-rate) USPS box, you're almost better off buying one to avoid a potential 40 minute process just to ship something. read more

So I came in here to send a letter via certified mail. Before I got in line, I had asked one of the clerks which form I needed to fill out. He pointed at the wall and told me which one. So I took about 5 minutes to fill out the form and go in line ( about a 10 minute wait at this point). Once I finally got to the desk, I showed one of the clerks the form I filled out along with my letter. Low and behold the clerk asked my why I filled out the form, I said because I wanted to send this certified. She said this was the wrong form and I needed to fill out a new one. I told her that one of her colleagues had told me to fill out this exact form 15 minutes earlier. She then told me there is no way any of them would have told me to fill out the wrong form and that it was my mistake. Instead of wasting any more of my time and pressing that I was right and they were wrong in having me fill out the wrong form. I just took the new form and filled it out. I obviously stepped aside and let a another patron send their mail until it was my turn again. The disappointing part is you give people a chance, you try to be friendly to them and help make their day a little better by being cordial, but certain people, (this one in particular happened to be a postal employee) :( are just negative no matter what. Oh and parking was difficult at this point because there is major construction. Park a couple blocks away. read more

I don't recall any non-miserable experiences at this post office. While I don't think all the employees are assholes, the certain ones that are, sure spoil the bunch. Must be something in the air. I mean it. The atmosphere is so fucking depressing, it could make me go postal. You could die in here and no one would ever know it. Besides the unspeakably rude staff, the stamp machines are money-eaters. How do you like that -- you try to buy your stamps straight from the machine so you don't have to look at or speak to any of the assholes, but it eats your money. Coming to the post office feels like flying Delta or dealing with Comcast. Customer service is really something that has gone downhill in this country, and this is one of the shining examples. Staff is rude and makes you feel like you're five years old. Violet is a bitch. She has a nasty attitude that unfortunately might rub off on you. The residue will probably stick for a few hours. Looked her up and found another negative review of her from a few years ago. Why is she still employed here? Thank goodness for government jobs, where you have to practically murder someone to get fired. She also told me that I couldn't mail cash in the package I was sending. I found out later this is incorrect: while it's highly discouraged (as theft does occur), there are no regulations against it. To be fair, her telling me I couldn't do it was probably just saving time having to explain all the reasons against it. Didn't get his name, but the other other employee behind the counter at the time seemed ok. He was trying to be patient with a somewhat deaf Chinese man who was having a hard time understanding how to mail his items. read more

This place is as slow as molasses. One time it took six days for a letter I mailed from here to reach Saratoga. Another time, it took ten days for a letter mailed from this location to get to San Jose. I mailed a package first class from here and it took a week to get to Los Angeles, as a reference point, I have had first class packages from Florida and New York reach me in three days. And if you are trying to buy a money order and they tell you they are out of them, it can take one to two days to get them back in stock. The staff always looks unhappy, like they are doing customers a favor by even speaking to them. Not much parking available, either. read more

I called the main USPS helpline looking for a missing package. They gave me the phone number of this branch, where they said my package was, so I called. Repeatedly. And every single time, nobody picked up the phone and it went on to make strange fax-like noises. So I show up at the branch (which is very hard to get to because of all the construction) and they tell me that they hold no mail there. They were not exactly polite in telling me that I had to go across town to another branch. Thanks, crappy downtown Sunnyvale post office for making my day worse. I don't like this post office for several reasons Parking and getting there is terrible during construction. At least there are signs pointing the way It looks old, dirty, and outdated. The San Jose post office is old but it also looks vintage and clean. I brought in a big package to be mailed and I told the worker that it won't fit in the mail box and it don't know why she charged me priority mail. I didn't asked for it to be mailed next day.
