Service is HORRIBLE. They do not assist with missing packages all they suggest is "contact the carrier" when usps is the carrier.. a joke. Do not get a p.o. box at this location anything missing from there is mostly never going to be returned to you. i've had two packages lost from here while have a p.o. box and i never got a refund or never did they want to report it. Besides all they need a spanish speaking employee, the community is mostly hispanic/latino based. I am a person with disabilities, an associate of ADA, American Disabilities Association, i am also a trainer for PSD service animals. This location is FEDERALLY breaking the law by denying service to me due to my PSD/Hospital therapy/Fire safety trained service animal being present with me. My dog has never had behavioral discrepancies. She has clearly displayed her highly trained PSD skills by sitting in heel position next to me or after 30 seconds dropping down and laying completely on the floor on my left hand side until she is clicked twice to get up or 3 times to walk. I have been to this location 3 times and have been denied service all 3 times. The only way i get to be serviced is because of Gilbert who is kind enough to come from the back to give me service bc they associates call for a manager after they refuse service. The next time i am denied service, i am going to place a lawsuit against the associate who denies service to me and the USPS. This is a FEDERAL CRIME. If this post office was any other business it would have closed long ago do to their lack of accountability, work ethic (please see attached picture, taken at 3pm), and atrocious customer service standards. This location is generally empty, devoid of clientele, and yet, when anyone walks in and requires assistance, the so-called employees have the most negative reaction. It's as if they think to themselves, "oh, here comes another plebian, why couldn't they just do what they need online?". This post office is nothing more than a glorified drop-off location. The employees hate even the slightest bit of work, they hate answering questions, and they absolutely loathe working. Unfortunately for the community, these people are locked into their positions, and are now tenured. The most senior of these employees are just biding their time until retirement. The employees work-ethic is as dilapidated as the building. I live a short drive from this location, but have constantly driven, at-times, upto fifteen minutes to another post office. They are always talking negatively about their job and customers, always complaining and being unprofessional in general, especially the one young lady with the fake eyelashes. The worst possible service ever at a post office! The only reason I went there was because this was the only place taking appointments. Even giving them ONE star is a lot!! We had an appointment and when we walked in, they already had an attitude. One of the employees had some friends show up for passports without no appointment, but they were taken care of before us that had an appointment. They told us to wait "in the lobby", no one came to help us, we had to go inquire. We waited more than an hour and the employees friend finished in less than 20 minutes. This post office is near my home. When I saw the overall ratings I was shocked because they should be rated higher in my opinion. The staff have always been so attentive, kind, patient and helpful. Though I am an adult I am terrible at adulting. They have walked me through how to send money orders, suggested ways to send packages at a lower cost, and even helped me out with passport questions, and provide me with tape and pens when needed. The only reason I stopped in at this tiny post office in South Gate is because it was en route to a couple of other places on my errand run. And the only reason I knocked off a star was because it seems run down on the outside. Like, if it was a holiday that the government actually celebrated, then you drove by it... Chances are you'd think, "Hmm, they shut down this post office too?!" You've gotta understand... I absolutely despise the USPS in general. They "lost" my birth certificate when I was required to send it through the mail in order to obtain my passport. They don't follow instructions when I submit information that correlates with their standard procedures. They frequently give me my neighbor's mail, so that makes me wonder what mail I've been missing. I've gotten mail that was all shredded up and chewed up by their stupid machines with no note, no apologies... And not too long ago I witnessed a male mail (don't you love the English language?) carrier throw one of our delivered packages (it was about 1' all around) from the sidewalk to our front door (which is at least 20'). The female postal worker that took care of my package was friendly AND efficient... i have been coming here to south gate post office for more than 40 yrs on wright rd. My experience today was like if was at the DMV! One girl that works at the counter has such a bad attitude! didnt want to do a little extra work than she had too! I lost my reciept and i needed a tracking #but she wasnt willing to even try and help.. i was watching her the whole time ! With every customer that she helped she had to make acomment about the # of pkgs or envelopes the person brought in ! She told a ladytheres an app on line where she could go on and print out the labels to make her job a little easier!!!! Isnt this your job! Wouldn't even give it 1 star, sorry. Went 2 times, first time with appointment and second as a walk-in. Just keep it professional. Like many of us always have questions trying to understand your schedule. Online I made an appointment and it gave me at 3pm, however at the post office they really stop at 2pm. Went back on Saturday because the gentleman told me they take walk ins from "9am-1pm" the ladies turned me away at 11:30 saying they only take the first 5 walk ins, but one of the African American girl kept talking over the lady whole time, kinda rude. I wasn't trying to argue just wanted to get the time right because it's confusing. I appreciate the other lady being patient still she should be able to get a word in. All employees should answer for themselves. Luckily, I went to the next post office at 7001 Garfield st. They were busy but very nice guys, clear and no attitude problem. They shouldn't provide passport services if the only person available to do them is prioritizing the regular customers in line first. Over 3 hours wait time. They clear out the regular line first, once that is empty they call a person waiting for a passport. VERY FRUSTRATING people keep walking in delaying those waiting for their passport. I've been coming to this location for years and I don't think I've ever had a bad experience, BUT I've seen better. I will admit the place can be pretty slow sometimes. In regards to getting your passport done here, boy did I have a hard time! They're very picky about doing everything right, and so when I first showed up around 10am with my passport photo, they said that my photo from Rite-Aid was too yellow and that I should get it done again, and to come back before 1pm. Long story short I went to 3 different places to get my photos done (didn't want to pay $15 for photos there) and they were all rejected ("this one's too bright, this one's not bright enough, too much shadow", etc...). They told me I could try to send the photos but that there was a high chance they would be rejected by the passport agency. I ended up getting the photos taken there at the post office. I'm now somewhat convinced the reason they're so picky is so you're forced to pay them $15 to get your photo there. read more

I have been a South Gate resident for over 17 years as well as my family owning a business here & a P.O. Box, it's only natural that I deal w/ this particular U.S.P.S on a daily basis. It pains me to even just leave 1 star because my experience w/ them is always extremely below subpar. They have literally lost my packages in the mail. Turns out the post man had it lingering in his truck for over a week because it fell out of his back & he marked it as "delivered" in the tracking process. They distribute my mail to other P.O. Boxes because they are negligent. Another person who rents out a post box at this location received my mail & called to set up to return it to me. I own a business & they screw up my payments that I receive in my P.O. Box at their own location. The employees who work their seriously him me out. They drain your energy away, if that ridiculously long waiting line won't. Sandy a teller in particular is the rudest & most unpleasant human I have ever encountered. Posted a picture of postman leaving an already opened package on top of mailboxes. He has lost two of my packages horrible job as a postal worker. He is always on the phone according to manny supervisor of post office. Leaves wrong mail in everyones mailboxes my husband has taken pictures of wrong mail delivered but due to privacy I won't post pics. Horrible service at post office went three times and I'm still waiting for a response to my lost packages. Hector stated he would give me a call and still no call back. Miss our old postman would ring door bell like the place was on fire but I would receive my package had no problem with him. If I can give a zero I would. Super friendly service. The other reviewer must have gone on the wrong day or just had plain bad luck. We came in on a Saturday before closing time so no line! I had to get one piece of mail date stamped but already put postage on the envelope. The lady said it would cost extra for a post mark stamp but was nice enough to print a zero stamp just so it showed what day it was mailed. Also, the manager was kind enough to explain what we needed to do in order to fix a mail forwarding that we accidentally messed up. read more

The girl working there told me my package would be a flat rate of 7.25 and I say okay, when I give it to the guy he tells me it will be $9.25, okay that's fine, I walk to my car and get the additional $2.25 needed yet when I give it to him he tells me it will be $11.50. In sum, they're incompetent, rude, unhelpful and irresponsible. The postal workers at this location are carless apathetic lazy employees who are indifferent to assisting you in any possible way. The number of negative experiences have exceeded our threshold and a formal complaint has been submitted to the federal entity responsible for managing these ignoramus individuals incompetent work. They have "misplaced" several packages, checks and various other mail that we have ordered/received in the past and have a strong suspicion that said packages and mail have been stolen. The unprofessional attitude and rude demeanor of these indolent and inert people is beyond acceptable. Well to start, been waiting since 1:30 pm to get a pass port for a 2 and 4 year old. There's only one postal worker! It's now 2:44 pm!!!!!!!!!!!!Ok here's where it gets all better, I asked one of the ladies that workers there and explained the situation. She apologized and quickly had a different person set my kids up with there passports. 20 minutes later we were good to go. Thank you guys for helping me out. So I personally work for a large company and believe in customer service. There action in helping me out is greatly appreciated but that is what should be expected.
