came in today to pick up my packages, I have a shared box and apparently the person I share with picked them up and decided not to inform me, but the real issue is the chick at the main desk (Asian woman w black hair) had to put in her two sense about my situation, started mumbling under her breath saying "you should start communicating better if you're gonna share a box" as if it's suddenly my fault that someone else picked it up and didn't tell me. This isn't even the first time she's tossed attitude my way acting as if her job is so hard when all I asked was for her to check if my package was there. The customer service here is awful due to her and I hope this gets addressed. I think the post office gets a bad wrap. I know that the USPS has many flaws and needs to figure out how to more efficiently run the organization but as far as this office goes, they have consistently good customer service, which is a rarity in any business. I ship way too much (family, troops, random packages of goodies) so I spend a lot of time here. Almost all the clerks are patient and helpful and a few times they have made suggestions that saved me a few bucks. A couple of the clerks are real kooky characters, just as you would expect from any government institution (see DMV) and the customers are often right up the same freaky alley. Maybe that is why I like this post office so much, the freaks don't just come out at night, at the USPS Ballard, they are there all day long. read more

I would rather pay TRIPLE the amount for a package to be sent via UPS or FedEx than to deal with the idiots behind the desk here in Ballard. Slow, yes. Inefficient, yep. The Good: they're open until 6pm on weekdays The Bad: your feet will get tired waiting in long lines, so never plan to just run in and out. It's usually impossible to include this as a quick lunch errand. Parking is a nightmare, and the post office sits at one of the most congested 4 way stop sign intersections in Ballard. Pedestrians beware ... The Ugly: They often have ONE clerk helping customers, with a couple others milling about in the background in slow motion. This has been the case so many times ... during peak hours, when there is often a line to the door. Exasperating is how I would describe the customer service at this location. They have the most inconvenient drop-off box I've seen at a post office. It's on the right side of the street... so if you don't have a passenger it's nearly useless. You either have to drive up to it the wrong way (which is dangerous so don't do that!) or you have to pull off some intense car yoga/gymnastics to reach across your vehicle to drop your letters off in the drop box. I really want to support the post office, and this is my neighborhood branch. Most of the employees here are very friendly, fast and knowledgeable. However, the postal worker, Bob, ruins everyone elses good efforts as he is the most infuriatingly slow and frustrating employee at this branch--- and he is ALWAYS working!! I have a small online business--I have sent out well over 1000 small packages, and I am familiar with costs of each type of mailing I usually do from that experience. Somehow, Bob always charges more for certain items than any other postal worker has. Bob has single handedly made me sign up for stamps.com. At least with stamps.com I can use a promo code from one of the many podcasts they advertise on, and Marc Maron may get a kickback! I digress... read more

There were three clerks working when I was there. But, due to the holiday season, there's a lot of traffic for sending gifts. One of the clerks was really fast. The other two were just taking their time. They do have a self-help stand, but it seemed slow as well. I was there to return the stuff I purchased online that didn't fit me. I didn't know how it worked. I put the label provided by VS and put on the wrong envelop I grabbed from the post office. However, the gentleman who helped me was very patient with me and the errors on the envelop. I really appreciated. The location wasn't easy to find unless you live in the neighborhood. The parking is also a problem. As far as inside of the post office, I wasn't clean, not sure if it's because of the holiday traffic. A lot of paper and trash on the writing/wrapping stands. read more

I think this place get a a bad rap too. ALL post offices are a drag (and anyone with a computer can figure out how to print postage at home, but I havent yet either so I digress.) YES Bob is *staggeringly* slow and but I think he is actually very competent and super complete with an great attention to detail. You might be asking yourself with some impatience, who reviews a post office? Well, I do. Especially when they make it so dang easy for you to get stamps or mail out your packages, boxes or bags (Okay, I'll take that sentence out when the lawyers for the Dr. Seuss (TM) estate contacts me). Seriously folks, I no longer get POd at the Ballard PO since they've basically automated everything, even the nice, real-looking cyborgs behind the counter (if you believe the cyborg part, you need help). Get this: 1. I don't have to go to the store to get postage stamps anymore. I can get them from a PO vending machine like a candy bar. You even get a large variety of choices from the American Crops issue to the Snowflake issue for the holiday season and lots in between. You might want to use the exact change unless you're into using / collecting unpopular American dollar coins. 2. You can send small to medium parcels yourself using an easy-to-use meter with a touchscreen and scale. It spits out the label and stamp for you and you can even use your debit card. Isn't that great? You don't even have to rely on any of the friendly cyb...folks behind the counter and thus, you avoid those long lines during holiday rushes. I just love what the USPS has done with these little POs and I for one don't go for these "Coffee Shops" posing as a Mail Center / greeting card / tattoo / tanning salon / mother-in-law sitting / baby ball room / fax places. What can one really say about a post office? "Well, I mailed my letters there!" "Picked up some great stamps...they've got some old dead guy on them!" "Had to mail something to Timbuktu." Honestly, the reason people go to a post office is because they have to mail something that that they can't just do themselves easily at home. That is, unless they are completely inept and have to come to the post office just to figure out how to mail a letter to the next town. Somehow those people are always in line ahead of me... Anyway, as far as post offices go, this one is pretty decent. The lines can get pretty long and crazy sometimes, but the workers do their best to move it along in a relatively organized manner. Notice I didn't say speedy...lines at the post office are like lines at the DMV, although not *quite* as bad. As with the DMV, that's no fault to the workers, but it can certainly be attributed to the inept people I mentioned above... I've always been fairly pleased with the time spent at this branch (as pleased as one can be with spending time at a post office, that is). More recently I actually left quite happy, due to the help I had received in mailing a business-related package to South Africa. Having never done it, I had to wait in line to ask and figure out what needed to be filled out. The clerk I received was very kind and charming and had the most fabulous hair ever...sort of a mix between a weatherman and a game show host (can't you picture that? It was so great). He was super helpful and friendly, and explained in a simple manner what needed to be done. I left feeling quite happy and satisfied, since he took all the stress out of figuring out the mailing issue. I wish I knew his name, but my receipt simply tagged him as "Clerk #10." Stopped by the PO again today just to pick up a couple of priority boxes. No boxes anywhere, the place was an absolute mess with trash on the floor, customer table, and shipping box areas [trash instead of the shipping materials you're supposed to have, that's awesome]. Line was out to the exterior door and there was only one person working the counter... the slowest person they have... at 2PM. Decided to just give up and maybe try another post office later since this one can't get its act together and I didn't have an hour to waste waiting for Bob to get through the line just so I could get a box. If this post office wasn't so close to me, I'd go elsewhere. There are usually only 1 or 2 people working the counter. The line will usually be almost to the door. The people working are slow. If I can avoid it at all, I try to never use Bob at the counter. He's incredibly slow to deal with. Richard and Ken are AMAZING. super friendly and quick. The drop off box shouldn't even be considered drive up. It's in a bad location, and 3 out of 5 times, someone is PARKED there. I've seen people yelling at people that have parked there, and the person won't even care and just walk inside anyway. read more

I usually hit this post office 3 to 5 times a week to pick up mail from the work post office box. This place is always busy (except when I go in really early in the morning) - and the parking situation is really hit or miss. Folks seem to think that parking in the loading zone, on the sidewalk and in front of driveways is okay . . . because they will only be a minute. And since I go there a lot I'm more annoyed with the folks soliciting outside than others might be. I've picked up their information before, and don't want to give every time I'm there, but I've heard them call me names after I've declined their information and walked away. read more

I can say that I've never left a review for a post office, so this is a first, lol. This USPS is quite big, there is parking outside so it's convenient, the lines aren't too bad (even during the holidays), and they go fairly quickly. There is a self help area where you can use a machine to ship stuff or someone (a human) can help you at the counter. The people who work there are friendly and helpful...probably the most friendly staff I've ever dealt with at a USPS..so thumbs up to you guys and thank you! read more

I've always had pleasant experiences here. I dock it a star because their drive-up mailboxes are very annoyingly difficult to maneuver. If you pull up to them going north, you have to crawl over the passenger seat to reach them (if you are driving alone). If you pull up to them going south, you have to switch lanes into oncoming traffic so that you can get beside them, and there's always some douche who is parked too close to them on the curb, which makes it awkward to finesse. read more

i agree with the user Lindsay below. after many MANY poor experiences at this post office, i would rather pay triple at UPS or FEDEX then deal with these imbeciles. the regular guys who work the counter are slower than turtles & this is why the line is out the door. i almost feel its intentional, like they could care less whether or not they efficiently get customers served. anytime ive been helped by an employee at this branch its delay, stall, slow to process, and repeat. ive also had a package broken that was shipped through them which was insured and when i called to find out what the next plan of attack would be the man whom i spoke too (for once) RUSHED me off the phone and told me it was my sisters problem (in new hampshire) and she needs to take it up with her post office. when that was unsuccessful i inquired again the next time i had to visit ballard usps and they said the first step is to file with them. is there no communication? or are they all dragging their knuckles across the ground and scratching their heads like buffoons on a daily basis. this is the type of service you will continue to receive at the USPS ballard branch. read more

I walked to this post office today with one purpose: buy one stamp. I had to mail something I am shamed to mail (no it's not porn or anything fun like that), so I put on my ipod, and walked on over. People are right, the drive up/drop off mail thing sucks! I was standing outside talking on the phone and noticed it was clusterfucky. However, once inside, there was NO LINE, the lady who helped me was nice as can be, and even though I was spending a whopping 42 cents, she made me feel like a valuable customer. Try going to another location before coming here. I was at this post office at 1:45 today. There were 2 people running the registers and a line almost out the door. Mind you, it is less than 10 days before Christmas and again, there were only two people running the registers. I didn't get back to my car until 2:25...45 minutes later!!? read more

I feel like I have to chime in and say every time I've been to this branch I've gotten incredible service. Maybe it depends on the person you get, but I went in today to mail a ridiculous amount of packages, both domestic and international, and Rod went out of his way to be efficient and save me $$. I was prepared to wait and had a stack of snacks and diversions for my toddler that were completely unnecessary. This post office has lost a couple of large manilla envelopes I've sent through it. I'm not sure if it's a specific carrier, but I'm definitely smelling something fishy. One of the manilla envelopes returned to its sender weeks after it has disappeared as if it reappeared out of nowhere. The other has been missing since June of 2013. read more

Trying to mail out a few boxes and want to media mail them. They are pretty light for media, but whatever, should count... The guy behind the counter, Roy, was immediately taken aback on how light they were and accused me of it not being media. Then lectured me on how HE is saving the post office money and blah blah blah. I get so frustrated with his RUDE behavior and how just demeaning he is towards me I end up just paying the full price for it to be mailed out. Roy was a dick. There was no reason to be a dick and try and strong arm me into paying premium prices for just a few boxes. This place is horrible! Do not come here if you don't have an hour to waste!! Twice now I've tried to go mail a package on my hour lunch break and I've had to leave both times before I made it to the counter so I could get back to work on time. For reference, this place is on 17th I work on 45th. That is how long you'll have to wait. Never again will I use this place.
