The Santa Maria Post Office on East Battles Road can be a battleground as they provide one of the most universally needed services in the world. They always work hard to help people and get out our mail as fast and accurate as possible. They help every person and are super helpful and kind to those in need while maintaining a very professional and reasonable demeanor while working very hard in one of the most high stress environments. I have worked a lot with Ellinore, Andrew and Gabe at the front service desk and they have always been willing to help to resolve any issues I have had. This post office is exceptionally helpful and able to deliver packages and mail together in a very reasonable amount of time at a very good cost. Thank you guys for all the hard work and expertise! This Post Office is HORRIBLE! Numerous complaints have been voiced and filed in person, for not receiving mail as well as it not being placed in the proper receptacle. It seems that no matter who you talk to, answers are hard to come by. You get pawned off on other employees, told everything is fine, get referred to a phone number that is only automated and leads no where, and even get your grievance summarily dismissed with NO REASON given, via email. For the second time a box, delivered to my neighborhood parcel box, was shoved into the locker so tight I had to go home, get a box cutter and cut the side of the box out just to retrieve my mail. I left the empty box inside the locker as it was just to large to remove without cutting it into smaller pieces. it had to have taken a powerful shove to Jam it into the locker in the first place. Our population sign says 108,000, but we all know there are way more living here in Santa Maria. From what I've read, the Postmaster can work on getting another one built. I do not appreciate the post office placing my packages on the ground outside of my apartment building. My address information clearly displayed for anyone to see. Very unsecured. The staff is generally nice and helpful. This location is always without a fail extremely busy. Last time, I spent 30 mins in line when arriving at 11am on a weekday. Place has worst after hour service !! Bad for business!! Old machine would always flicker and work sometimes , at times you would be able to print labels than other times it labels didn't work or screen was off ... place is always a mess , never got boxes stocked up . I tried to ask staff about shipping a package internationally I was sent out of a long line twice with information that could have been given to me to begin with. This post office looks like it needs some love. The interior looks old and in need of some renovation. I like how they have installed a 24 hr kiosk for self service. I don't like how it's constantly out of the flat rate boxes. I highly doubt anyone is stealing them as they would be useless as moving boxes which leads me to believe they are not restocked every day before closing. It's not very well lit at night and because of how out of the way it is I would not advise women to go in alone in the evenings. I made the mistake one night of stopping by around 8 pm. There was one other car in the parking lot and when I walked in an older woman was just finishing up her business by the kiosk when a very shabby looking man walked in. He did not have anything that looked like mail with him. He just shuffled around awkwardly in the room, wandered off and then came back. She started a conversation with me while I bought my postage and tossed my item in the slotted bin and we walked out together. The guy just wandered around and watched the entire time. Thank God on the kindness of strangers like her. When we walked out she mentioned he looked a bit "off" and she didn't mean to be weird by means of talking excessively she just didn't want to leave me alone. I just moved here a year ago and I've had issues from the start! They are always losing my mail packages. And when I go because they leave me a slip they don't even know where it's located and make me drive back hours later because they can't figure it out. I sale on eBay and just dropped off two packages and they haven't scanned them in it's been 15 days and they can't tell me what's going on! Why can't anything go smoothly I'm so frustrated and upset! Well there are a lot of post offices out there, and although they're all the same, they're all a little different. It's one in Santa Maria on battles Avenue is a little difficult on the entry as it has a narrow driveway, actually way to narrow and easy to miss. Parking lot is definitely big enough for a giant party. The Lobby is good and spacious. The staff was incredibly engaging, funny, humorous, and willing to laugh out loud. What a pleasant experience. This happens all the time. They stuff mailboxes with items that are too big. I placed an order (for a Christmas present for my 84 year old mother) with Amazon to be delivered on 12/24/2020. Not surprising, it wasn't delivered on the 24th. Looking at the tracking, it shows it was in Beaumont, CA for 3 days before moving to the next destination. It was in Santa Maria, CA (the destination city) on 12/27 @ 1:35am. The same day it was received in Taft, CA at 7:14am and has been there ever since. It took less than 6 hours to get there. After being on hold for over 2 hours, I was told it wasn't processed in Santa Maria, but was sent to Taft to be processed. HIW STUPID IS THAT!!! Now I'm told the expected delivery date is 12/31/2020. Now it's going to take 3 days to get back to Santa Maria. WHAT A CROCK!!! read more

I never have a good experience at the Santa Maria Post Office. I keep holding out for that one time buying stamps that it will be effortless. But it doesn't matter if it's as simple as buying stamps or as complicated as forwarding mail to our ranch out of state, something always becomes an issue. I want to give a personal shout out to the amazing service I received at the passport counter at the Santa Maria Post Office! Donald S, was who helped me. He is the kindest most compassionate man I have come across in a long time. He takes his job very seriously and conducts himself with professionalism and respect for everyone. There were two people ahead of me and I watched in awe as he went out of his way with kindness, and personal interest in each of their trips and situations. This man deserves a medal for his beautiful character and his human kindness. We need more Donald S.'s in this world. If you need a passport, make an appointment with this gentleman. You will not be sorry- he is AWESOME!! Poor customer service and long lines. The Postmaster here is rarely available. Seems like no one is ever available to discuss delivery of mail/parcels to your home. There is so much theft in SM and the carriers leave your packages in plain view on your porch or near your front door. They don't even bother knocking or ringing your doorbell to alert you to the delivery. And when someone steals your package.... yeah, they're not to blame! read more

This post office is wack!!! If your planning to get a passport get here early. Hours of operation is 11-1 but Cesar the supervisor said they only allow so many people for the passport line? Where does that say only a CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PEOPLE IN ONE DAY!!!NO IT SAYS 11-1. Either hire more people but don't cut people off when they waited so long. The man who is doing the passport is just doing his job I get it, but hire more people on Saturday. People work you know, difficult to get here on a weekday. So of coarse theres going to be a whole heck of alot of people on Saturday. Just be prepared when you come. I ended up getting seen but I sure didnt have a problem speaking up. If it's hours of operation take Care of your customers. This has got to be the worst Post Office I have ever dealt with! First, my husband was working in the area and had to mail a time sensitive letter. He was there on a Tuesday and needed something delivered by Friday. He was told he was still in time for the Tuesday pick up and it should not take more than 3 days to get to the Bay Area. It is now OVER A WEEK LATER and his letter has still not arrived. His co-worker also sent a letter that day and his did not arrive yet either. I've heard of 5 days, tops for a letter within CA, but over a week, if at all? I tried to call several times today around 3:00 and no one ever picks up the phone.
