BEWARE! They broke our treadmill and our TV. Then they tried so say that they were broken prior, which was 100% not true. The TV cost us 10 grand and we were not reimbursed anything for it. It was one of the very first 4K TVs and was built solid and they don't make them like that anymore. I still think about that TV at least once a month. read more

Meathead damaged many of our items, including breaking the frame and wheels of a large refrigerator, didn't wrap or protect multiple iron bed frames, crushed many boxes and completely trampled our light furniture.They continue to refuse to reimburse us for repairs of the damaged items. We have tried unsuccessfully for months to get the issue resolved through their management team but both managers, Michael and Ian refuse to return our calls and emails. We had a terrible experience with Meathead Movers from start to finish. They broke our treadmill, damaged our headphones, and repeatedly failed to follow basic instructions during the move. What was most upsetting, though, was the pricing bait-and-switch. We were quoted a daily maximum, only to be presented with a bill nearly double that amount close to 11:00 PM the night of the move, when we were exhausted and under pressure. While disputing the charges, the company agreed to a $1,500 discount, yet auto-debited our account for the full amount anyway, without authorization. This was incredibly upsetting and felt completely unprofessional. To make matters worse, the movers themselves were openly talking about quitting while on the job, which explained the lack of care and professionalism we experienced throughout the day. This move was a nightmare -- misleading pricing, damaged property, poor communication, and unethical billing practices. I strongly recommend running away from this company and choosing literally any other mover. read more

Meathead's estimation was very good, their price was competitive, and there were no change-order games to raise the price during the service. Our packing and moving crews were all prompt, efficient, and pleasant to be around. We love Meathead Movers!!! We had a new bbq delivered from Home Depot but the delivery driver would only drop it on our driveway in Cambria. My wife and I attempted to move it down a flight of six stairs to our deck. We soon realized that it was dangerous and could ruin the bbq. We were stuck. My wife suggested calling Meathead Movers which I did. I spoke with Blake and explained our dilemma. He promptly gave us a quote and also checked on availability of movers. Lucky for us, movers were working in San Simeon the next day and that they could do our small job after that job. Today, Christian and Logan arrived when we expected and they quickly reviewed what we needed and proceeded to get their lifting straps and moved the bbq onto our deck. Called them up and told me they initially charge 15k for out of state move. She even said "we don't want to waste your time" if the amount seems too high. Sounded arrogant, but okay. So I requested an in-person visit to do a proper estimate, which they confirmed through email and a couple of times verbally through phone. I moved my schedule and cut short my work day just to meet them at my home, only for them to not show up. I call up to ask about my appointment cause they never arrived ! The person on the phone, after holding me for minutes, was giggling and saying "sorry" it got "mixed up". First of all, it is NOT FUNNY. They have wasted my time, and if this is how they treat potential clients, I do not want to do business with them. For the record, we were seriously considering this company and budget is not an issue as it is company sponsored and urgent, but if you do not show up on DAY 1, I'll give the business to someone who will. The crew was polite, skilled attentive to detail and unbelievable how they handled large items down a bending staircase. LOTS OF DAMAGE!!! Salesman full of promises not kept. Timing of move misjudged so unpacking could not be completed due to condo time limit rules. They threw things unwrapped and unpadded in boxes resulting in damage, clothes wadded up in bottom of wardrobe and another wardrobe only 1/4 full (probably to up the count of boxes). That said, they did a walk thru and got right to business wrapping furniture and loading onto the truck. As their ad says they jogged back from the truck. the 5 guys moved everything without issue. Excellent communication overview of what they were going to do, they did it efficiently and got onto the truck flawlessly. These deadlifts ( of course done safely ) were impressive to see getting on the dolly and the ingenuity of getting the piano up the 2 stairs was fascinating and done well. They moved my stuff that was stored in two PODS containers into a brand new 3-story townhouse with a staircase the size of a dollhouse. Loads of heavy lifting and strategizing on those bleeping stairs. They took great care, with zero damage to my possessions or the walls/ceilings/rails/floors. They thought nothing of deconstructing my five over-sized metal shelving units to get them up the stairs, and then putting them back together, with the shelves in the correct vertical slots. I would've had a major meltdown re: the shelving if not for them. Furthermore, they took initiative! Example: When I said I needed them to help put my platform bed put back together, which was stored in PODS container already disassembled, I fully expected to have to provide oversight and tools. Nope! By the time I swung by the 3rd floor, it was done, and done right! Used Meathead movers to move from a single family residence in Atascadero to San Luis Obispo. Ahead of the move, I provided them with an accurate list of all the items to move. Yet, on the move day, they showed up with only two movers (later a third showed up) to load. Loading up the house took until 4pm. They made up for it by sending in an army of movers to unload. Which was great, but quite a few items ended up in the wrong rooms because they were unloading so quickly. The main reason I gave them 3 stars is this, though: They loaded up a crib that was partly disassembled. The way it was loaded, it was obvious to me that it would not survive the trek. I pointed it out to the movers that loaded it, but they said it would be fine (likely because they were in a hurry). As I expected, the crib arrived damaged -- basically, the sides were ripped out of the "headboard". One of the movers unloading assured me they would replace it. Since we needed a place for our son to sleep, we ordered a new crib right away. Once we contacted Meathead for a reimbursement, they told us they would just pay to replace the parts that broke. For reference, the new crib was $999 and the replacement parts only $315. But since the mover on-site had assured us it would replaced, we are now out over $600. read more

This was the worst experience. They arrived late on moving day. They said they had something to do at the main office. I had a long way to travel, at age 75, with 2 dogs, so arriving an hour late was unacceptable. Same thing on move in the next day. They were 90 minutes late, they said due to traffic. As professionals they should have googled it. Upon arrival they had all of my things spread out on the lawn. I had asked them to put the things that were going in storage to load first, last to be taken out at arrival point. They had it all mixed up. I am still looking for items. Boxes were torn and broken. What's good: communication, price negotiation, showed up when they said, movers were terrific (!), handled my things with care, unloaded in an organized manner, where I wanted and moved stuff around as I wanted. Again, my project manager arranged for 3 movers and 2 26' ft trucks which was perfect. The price was high for a non union shop. No discounts for military veterans. It was implied by several managers before I was assigned a project manager that it was union, and after all the papers were signed, a concierge person told me in one of my many phone calls, that it is not a union shop.I would have held out for a lower price had I known that. It seemed to me that whoever directed the workers at my house, the destination,- which I overheard- was too demanding of them. My many boxes blocked the view of the head worker, so she could not see me. She had to relay the info to the other 2 workers. She did so in a pleasant, calm voice. You should know that they worked happily , very hard all day (from 10-5pm-ish) , no breaks, in direct sun much of the time, yet were put up in a crap motel( I knew it, they did not) next to the airport. They were directed to start at 5:30am the next day! No complaints from the workers in action or attitude.. I'm a retired freelance journalist. read more

On 4/9/22 they came at exactly 11am.Our packers were Chris Cruz and Hilario Gomez. These 2 guys were so quick,professional, organized, and polite. They answered all our questions and made sure they got everything packed like we asked for. And even did another walk through just to make sure all was packed away. Disrespectful, unprofessional and unsafe. They were completing a move on oak knoll in Orcutt this evening and had the truck blocking 1.5 of the two lanes on the street at a curve and blocking sidewalk no cones or anything for safety. I watched as bikes and kids walked into the middle of street to get around And saw them get into a yelling disagreement with a neighbor who asked them to move truck. On our way back home as they got in cars to leave the boys got into a pick up truck and larger suv and proceeded to do a burn out as they flipped around to leave. Rachel was clearly the point person, when she recognized that the scope of the job was much larger than she had been informed by the Assisted Living Facility, she acted quickly and professionally to call in more help. She was understanding and communicated clearly with everyone involved. Emerson arrived with Rachel, Phillip and Anthony were called in to help and arrived promptly. The four of them worked as one, quickly and efficiently. They were able to move a one-bedroom apartment full of (heavy) furniture and a good number of additional items between buildings and in the heat of the day. Stairs and elevators were not a problem. They were careful with everything and caused no damage whatsoever. They were polite, accommodating, and friendly and I even witnessed Phillip interacting courteously with a senior who was a little confused by all the activity. All too often complaints are the norm. These young people represented what I have always understood Meathead to project: efficiency and integrity. We were expecting the service that we paid for to incorporate packing of all of our items with care, loading of all items onto your truck, delivering, and then unpacking of, those items at our new home. My first concern is the job that the packers did. We had items literally thrown into boxes at random... items that were stored in the garage ended up with items from the kitchen, items from one room mixed with another. Small items all just thrown into one box at random with no organization. My second concern is that when it came time for your team to show up and load your trucks, due to what I can only assume was a lack of proper planning, they were unable to load quite a bit of items. This has left us with the need to now pay for additional storage, make extra trips back to the central coast to get the rest of our belongings, and pay additional amounts to rent a truck to bring the remaining items. All of these additional expenses where what we were given the impression that MeatHead would be accomplishing. When it came time for the unpacking, they were able to unpack about two-thirds of the items; however, this was mainly so that the packing materials would be removed. We are still left with several boxes that are in the wrong rooms and unpacked. This is truly due to the lack of organization and thought put into the initial packing services, we are continued to be left with the task of unpacking, organizing and putting away boxes... again another service that was advertised as one thing we were paying for but not really what we got. ***in response to the reply below, since boxes were not unpacked until after we moved and response on how the packing was done wouldn't have been known until later. We have attempted to work with your customer service to rectify the issues but found them rude and condescending taking no ownership or responsibility for the lack of service offered. read more

We played phone tag for almost a week. Any time I called there were either "no consultants here, they all called out" or they were all "on calls and would call me later" and never did. I just needed an estimate for less than $200 worth of furniture that could fit in the back of a pick up truck because I don't know anyone here. The locations were 10 min apart mind you. (They would not be moving ANY boxes, ANY kitchen wear, ANYTHING other than these few pieces of furniture that didn't even cost me $200 BRAND NEW) Estimate: Nearly $700 MINIMUM (3hr) and if they went over that it was $54/15min. And tips were still suggested in the end for the two men helping me. Why not just toss out my current furniture and buy all brand new at that rate (it's all brand new anyway, bought in December). It's clear that one of two things are going on (Allegedly :P ) 1. They don't want to do small jobs at all. So they estimate an unreasonable price for such a small job. God forbid someone not know anyone with a pick up. Luckily, I am a CP grad and reached out to the CP community. Some students will come and help me (oh, and I'll tip big because they aren't trying to rip me off). 2. They are either struggling due to the pandemic and need the money or just blatantly want to try to take advantage of people like me that have no one. I recently moved from San Diego to Arroyo Grande, CA. I initially called Meathead Movers because of their great Yelp reviews. I was immediately assigned a moving coordinator who worked with me to plan all facets of my rather complicated move. Jenny and I FaceTimed through my 2400 square foot house in San Diego and she was able to do an accurate inventory. Soon she had a price, which included three guys showing up at 9 am with a truck at my house, packing my artwork, beds and wrapping all furniture in pads and loading them on the truck. They also loaded,all my many boxes. The move manager, Caden and his team were super professional and hard working. This phase went super smoothly. I wasn't able to move into my temporary 1100 square foot rental in Arroyo Grande for ten days, so my stuff stayed in their secure facility in the truck until then. On my move in day, Caden and Mike showed up, unloaded, unwrapped and placed all the furniture and boxes that were intended for the rental. The rest of it went into a storage unit at their facility in nearby San Luis Obispo. Next day, two lovely young ladies, Piper and Stephanie, arrived at 10 am to help me unpack. They were delightful and a huge help for the three hours I had them. The last phase will take place at the end of July, when I move into my newly purchased home in Nipomo. Everything from storage will be loaded onto the truck and then they'll come to my rental and pick up everything here. We will go through the unloading and unpacking again, and my move will be finally complete! I have no doubt that the process will be completed with the same speed, professionalism and attention to detail as Meathead Movers has exhibited throughout. They are truly a five star, above and beyond company. Everyone I've worked with has been amazing and yes, they made my move as painless and fun as possible! WORST PACKERS I'VE EVER USED! (Updated review) ** see photos. You be the judge!** SUMMARY PROS - Friendly, respectful employees. The girls who did our packing were very nice to me, and my kids loved them. They dressed professionally and used appropriate language. CONS- Majority of the boxes were not packed efficiently, leaving lots of room in each box, so that (in the end) not all of my stuff was packed efficiently enough to fit in the moving truck. After lengthy discussions and sharing photos with the company, they claimed nothing was wrong because no items of value were broken. They tried to blame their inefficient pack job on the fact that I hadn't purchased their boxes. They didn't care that I lost precious space in my truck because of incredibly inefficient packing; I was just out $800 for a terrible pack job and had to leave a bunch of stuff behind because it didn't fit in the truck. THE FULL STORY (SEE PHOTOS ALSO) We are in the military and we've moved 12 times in the past 11 years. We've used many different companies over the years in various parts of the country, so I've seen a range of approaches to packing and various degrees of space efficiency. But no matter how you approach it, space is the most precious thing in a move, so your packers must be experts at it (sadly, these packers were not). As we planned for our upcoming move from CA to FL, we looked into many moving companies for packing, loading and transportation. Meathead Movers had the best customer service (friendly, knowledgeable phone staff) and were the best at answering questions before we committed, so we ultimately chose them. We hired 3 packers to come for 3 hours to help me pack (I had already started and got a big chunk of packing done, but I knew I wouldn't finish it all on my own because I have 3 kids under 5). I had all my own materials to use. I went through each box I had first, reenforced it and made sure it was in good enough shape to use again. I recycled the ones that weren't going to protect my stuff during another move. I purchased 25 lbs of new packing paper and had all my blankets, towels and linens available for the packers to use to wrap my fragile dishes, etc. I had told Meathead Movers that I didn't think I'd need to purchase any boxes or packing materials, but they said they would bring theirs in case I ended up needing to buy some. The morning of the packing (June 10, 2022 - 3 days before we had to load the truck), I got a call from the packers saying they were on their way. They were only 15 minutes late, which wasn't a problem because they didn't start the clock on my 3 hours that I had paid for until they were actually ready to start working. The 3 girls that arrived were all very nice. (I debated whether to specifically name them here. I'm deciding not to, because the company already knows who they are and just needs to provide them MUCH better training.) They wore the company's t-shirt, and all were very polite when talking to my family. I went over paperwork with their team lead and then I told them what I wanted them to do. I asked them to start in the kitchen, which I know is one of the hardest rooms in the house. I asked them to use my premade room labels and to fill the boxes as much as possible and prioritize space efficiency. I said I didn't care if things from one drawer got mixed up with things from another drawer, as long as nothing broke and as long as it all got in a box. I asked them to let me know if they ended up with a box that looked compromised and I'd get them a different one to use. I had assumed they knew how to pack things in a space efficient manner and how to use packing paper to make sure contents didn't shift in the box during transport, so I didn't give them a demonstration. Sadly, I was wrong (see photos). As they were packing, I was carrying packed boxes downstairs to the garage. Every couple of boxes or so, I'd notice a box didn't have a label, or was in the "done pile" without being taped. I taped up and labeled the boxes myself before carrying them down. I also noticed as I was carrying them down the stairs, that I could often hear contents clanking together or shifting as I was walking. (This is what makes things break while the truck is moving.) I opened the boxes and saw that some of them needed to be repacked. Sometimes, I repacked them myself, and other times I asked one of the Meatheads to repack it. I noticed this kind of poor packing enough, that I REMINDED them to use the packing paper and not to leave empty space in the boxes (because boxes will crush if they don't have anything inside to support them). I felt really awkward having to coach the "professional packers" about such a basic part of their job, but I was the one who was going to suffer if the boxes weren't packed right, so I talked to them about it anyway.
