The Lompoc DMV is great. It is very spacious, bright and airy. The employees there are very friendly and welcoming. They answer any questions you have in our willing to take the time to go over whatever it is that you are there for. My suggestion for you is to go online and make an appointment and fill out any paperwork you need to online. It will get you in and out so much faster. The process was surprisingly quick -- short lines and a very efficient system overall. Most of the staff were friendly and professional, which made the visit much smoother than expected. That said, one staff member (not at the window I was in line for) turned around and initiated a question about my purpose there. While I assume it came from a helpful place, the interaction felt a bit unnecessary -- especially since I didn't know who he was at the time. This DMV is the largest and most modern one I have ever been to. Before doors even opened, there was a little line but an employee started early directing people with documents they needed and where to stand, so when it did officially open everyone was already to go. Very efficient. Everyone that provided services were very pleasant to work with. This is a great location, with friendly and efficient workers. I was highly impressed with my visit! read more

During COVID, no appointments. HOWEVER, if you pre-register on-line and download your documents to their website, you will get an e-mail with a code number. Print that out and bring it with you. The DMV has a separate waiting line for people that pre-register, and you won't have to wait in the main line!! Much quicker, to include wait time once admitted inside. Simply the best DMV on the coast !! Easy to access parking lot . And amazingly organized, staff top notch . I normally despise DMV numerous horrible experiences at the Santa Maria location. On a whim I decided to go to the Lompoc location , which is truly a different experience. Today was my 3rd visit in the last couple of months & I seriously don't mind coming here . Yes I use the pre-registered online app. Which means no long line . Everyone there is extremely knowledgeable & professional. But the best part they are friendly & welcoming which turns the dreaded DMV into a better than expected one . Well worth the drive !! read more

My wait time was less than 10 mins. with no appointment! This is a newer DMV office. It's clean, quiet and the service is fast and courteous. Plenty of parking in the rear. Make an appointment for even faster service. There are clean public restrooms in the lobby. read more

Who doesn't dread the DMV? I would rather have needles stuck in my arm than stand in the dreadful lines, and deal with the rude counter staff. We drove 30 minutes out of our usual DMV to the Lompoc division when lo and behold.... the lines were short, the staff was KIND and helpful and the building is clean and new! I will definitely drive the 30 minutes from SM to here for any future DMV needs. read more

So NOBODY wants to go to the DMV and I am no exception. When I got there 15 minutes before they opened there were already 20 people standing outside. The guy that came out 5 minutes before the opening was awesome. Told everyone where they needed to go, organized they groups, and got everyone in the proper lines and then the wait begins. But NO! I did the computer work prior, so I was checked, given a number and told to wait. 10 minutes max! Went through all the paperwork cHecks, got my picture done and was sent home done in less than 40 minutes from Parking to driving home. Nice people at all the windows I visited and I seriously was blown away how easily a guy with no appointment was able to get through the system. read more

This is the best DMV i have been to yet. The customer service was great and everyone was friendly. In fact, one lady went out of her way to help us. She over heard me saying that I should have had my son get his ID while we were here. She went and spoke with the lady that just helped us and they let us go back up and get it. Manpower here is limited, controlled. Compare to grocery store, they have windows that are not open even with a long line of wait. You will also notice at 10am they will start taking their short breaks automatically. The wait is long, expect to be there for at least an hour. Otherwise, the place is clean and well maintained. If you can do it online, don't come here. I thought West Covina DMV was bad enough, at least the place is big and air-conditioned. You can spend your whole day here to cool-down when it is hot outside. read more

I made my appointment a month prior, got there an hour earlier, before the time of my appointment I got in line and the lady reminded me I had to get my car registration and proof of insurance. I went to the car, which was already parked in one of the spots for the drivers test, it took me a while to find it, I got in line again and the same lady told me I was too late and I had to reschedule( only seven minutes late), she told me I should've sent my licensed driver to look for the papers. After speaking to her and another lady, they put me on standby, I waited for half an hour, then got called up so they can tell me I couldn't take it today and they rescheduled me for a month from now. I know this job must be stressful but he made the whole experience that much better I never get a change to get his name but he knows who he is. Someone needs to give that man a raise. It is probably a result of the drivers licenses being issued at the new Lompoc location, but every time in the last 3 years I've visited (6 times I guess), it has been in-and-out as can be for the DMV. I'd say about half the time I had made an appointment, and that helped to expedite the process. The other 3 times (most recently today) I spent a whole 15 minutes there. The lady literally failed me on my driving test for a dumb reason, the Vehicle was already half way over the line when the light turned yellow, so I proceeded through the intersection. Do not even bother to show up. I took my liscense's test today at Lompoc DMV and let me just start by saying what a shitty, horrible, and fucking enraging experience it was. My instructors name was Rosa. If you are taking your test in Lompoc just pray to god the intructor isn't this bitch. The moment she walked out to the car I knew I was going to fail. My mom had handed me the wrong registration to the car, which really was no big deal, my mom was right inside with the correct one. But no, Rosa made sure that I knew how horrible it was for her having to walk inside and check the vehicle herself. I knew at that moment how unlucky I was. She came back and gave horrible instructions, then acted as if I was driving badly. She auto failed me for "not yielding the right of way" to a pedestrian who was not even crossing the street. It was just an overall unbelievable experience. I will definitely not be returning to Lompoc DMV for anything. Hopefully Goleta has civil instructors that actually want you to pass.
