This post office sells Xmas cards! Super convenient!
    Joanna T.

Once upon a midday cheery, I ventured out to the Golden Gate Park area for soothing my spirit which was weary. There on the Irving St horizon was the faithful red, white & blue of the US Post Office (Inner Sunset). In a flash, I dashed in and found NO Line (!). Loaded with visions of crowds with boxes to mail off for Xmas, I made the quick purchase of stamps for real cards to friends and family all around the globe. No needing to weigh the cards, the kindly counter post office agent knew from LONG experience how much it would be! Europe? Asia? First-class USA. Done, done and done! How easy was that!?!

Once I got to the front, the super kind lady brought me through the side door to take my picture. She took a few snaps, asked me which one was best? I told her they all look the same. She went over my paperwork, had me make a few changes, additions, photocopied all the things (extra charge) and with the swipe of my debit card for $184.55, I was on my way. My passport arrived two weeks later. . . before my birth certificate. It was the most painless process ever and worth every penny. Here's the breakdown of pricing- USPS Passport Fee- $35 Photo Service- $15 Money Order- $130 Money Order Fee- $2.55 Copy Machine- $2

Two had clerks processing passports and the third had the clerk opening a safe deposit box contract. We all stood there for a long, long time. No one was buying stamps or mailing parcels at the counter. When I finally made it to a clerk, I got my stamps and when I paid , her finger shot to the debit machine snd clicked the happy face for customer service. REALLY????? I couldn't believe if, I told her that isn't the customer service response I would have picked. Do yourself a favor snd go up to the Diamond Heights post office. It is so much better.

I would give zero stars if that were an option…read more I arrived at 5:10 PM with a prepaid, labeled package, but was told the location was already closed--even though it should have remained open for about 20 more minutes. Two other customers, also with ready-to-ship packages, asked if they could simply leave their items at the counter, but were refused without any explanation. What made this more frustrating was that there were still packages on the counter and a drop hamper right next to it. Despite staff still being present, they wouldn't allow us to leave our packages inside and instead told us to leave them outside. This was extremely poor customer service and a very disappointing experience.

It's nice that this location has a few limited time parking meters (they take coins, credit card, or use pay by phone app) right outside. Or if you want to park up the street there are free neighborhood spots, but it might be a trek downhill/uphill. Remember to check the street sweeping schedule to avoid a parking ticket. The customer service agents aren't super cheerful, but they are usually nice and have never been mean to me. There's an automated machine inside you can use to pay and print out certain postage/package postage if you want, but I find the counter people to be faster. If you have a pre-paid label/package then you can skip the line and just place the package on the counter where all the other dropped off packages are if you don't need a receipt. The flat rate/no weight limit priority boxes are helpful. I like that they have a rack of greeting cards for sale. I just wish they were fully stocked all the time with the different holidays/celebrations. I missed out on Christmas cards this year because I went too early in December, but their prices for Christmas cards were pretty reasonable in the past. They also sell most packaging materials you would need including boxes, envelopes, padded envelopes and tape. I don't even care whether the USPS as a whole is super profitiable or not. It should be regarded as a service for all of us. People get their medications and important documents through the mail. I avoid using Fedex or UPS because they often damage my packages on their way to the recipient. It's better that we have more competing services overall. I find the USPS website the easiest to use especially if you have a scale at home. I don't think mailpeople should have to deliver mail on Saturdays. Let them rest. Do delivery mailpeople have to pay for their own uniforms? Their uniforms look pretty ragged from what I've seen. Anyways, thank you to our local post office and mailpeople.

Needless to say, it's important, and the ordeal involved us running to the consulate a couple of times to get those papers notarized. To ensure the papers arrive ASAP, I paid for the more expensive shipping option ($75). USPS lost the mail. Somehow it got sent to Bosnia. Crazy, right? The mail literally went in the opposite direction. Worse yet, since it's been returned to the US, it's treated as an import item so it's been stuck in NY customs for the past MONTH. It's been 1.5 MONTHS since I mailed it out, and it's still stuck in customs ON ITS WAY BACK TO ME. During this time, we actually went back to the consulate and re-notarized the exact same docs. Sending it out this time with Fedex or DHL. I went to the Bayview USPS at 1300 Evans, and they were actually a bit more helpful. They looked at the receipt and said the West Portal office missed some things I was supposed to fill out. For example, I needed to put a dollar value, even if it's $1. Also, I can't just write "documents" in the item description - it needed to be a lot more specific (what the docs are, how many pages, etc). The 1300 Evans office explained that it was on the agent to double check and make sure I filled out the forms correctly. Yeah, no one here did that. I'm not sure if I can trust USPS again. I've been hearing from people about their own horror stories with USPS. Someone's package got sent to SF, then went to Oakland and San Jose, before coming back to SF again... it literally went on a joyride around the Bay Area! But if I MUST use USPS again, I'd probably go to the 1300 Evans branch - they're bigger and way more knowledgeable.

I'm sure everyone in the area was glad to see it reopen but the old staff are all gone. The new dude who seems to work alone at the counter is the rudest, grump who has ever worked there. There used to be a grumpy woman over 30 yrs ago and I was so glad when she retired. This office doesn't carry any 4 cents or lower denomination stamps that I can use with older stamps to add up to the current 78 cents first class fee. You go in and ask a question and he's lecturing you. Doesn't greet you back after you say "good morning " and doesn't thank you. Why is he even in the front office dealing with customers? They need to screen and hire nice people.
