Love this Providence USPS hub location! Its extended hours (lobby with clerks open to 9 pm on weekdays, unheard of!) are so convenient and helpful when I have something that must go out that day, but I've missed the cutoff at my local location. Lines can be long, but the self service kiosk can help me most times. Sometimes people jam the package bins, though, which somehow goes unnoticed by staff, and means you have to get in the sometimes long lines anyways. There are a wide range of extra services offered here, and tons of a wider variety of the free priority packaging options than most other locations have. There's a large parking lot, but people whip through it, so be careful! This location and its convenient extended hours are such an asset for local small business owners and residents alike. read more

I enjoy visiting this USPS location on Corliss St in Providence, because they have a huge parking lot and offer more than the usual mailing services. There are Passport Services for passport appointments and photo appointments. In addition, they are open early and close late (Monday-Friday: 7:00 am - 9:00 pm, Saturday: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm). I came in on a Thursday morning around 8:30am to mail a small package (2.00 oz) out. I had to purchase a mailing envelope as well. There were many different sizes and costs options. I chose a holiday envelope for $1.99. There was no line so I was able to get helped right away. Diane was friendly and asked me to fill out an experience survey later with link on receipt. I mailed the small package with USPS Ground Advantage for $6.05. Tracking is included for free on all Ground Advantage packages. The receipt indicates the destination, weight, estimated delivery date, tracking #, insurance up to $100.00 included, and grand total. The package arrived safely, but one day later than the estimated delivery date. It is the busy holiday season time. Everyone do not use priority mail, they hype 2 to 3 business days and they charge over $10.00 for it, I sent it a letter on the 5of the month and 10 days later still not delivered, at this point unacceptable and went do to get a refund and was told it is not guaranteed and no refund. They should not be aloud to offer something that they charge extra for and they lose your package and you have no recourse to get your money back. read more

Large parking lot and self service machines. This post office is often open when others are not. Best to come outside of lunch hour, either early or late afternoon to avoid lines. Even when the service desk is closed/ no one is working here, it is open so you can use the self service machines and put letters directly in the mailboxes. Plenty of PO Boxes here too. read more

I enjoy that the major hub is located in Providence and that they are open at later times than most smaller post offices. It's one of the reasons I love going to this location. I've never had a bad customer service experience, in fact the clerks will go out of their way to help me if I need it. I appreciate that they are so knowledgeable and are willing to help or give me suggestions. They don't have too many cashiers, so there is pretty much always a line. I've also gone around the holidays, and can say that is the busiest time for them so don't wait to mail your letters and packages. read more

It's always a challenge to go to a US Postal Service Post Office in person. Every branch has long and slow moving lines. Federal policy doesn't always make sense (as an example, twice I've had a package not be delivered by the guaranteed delivery date - one was TWO WEEKS late - only to be told that they could absolutely confirm non-delivery, but couldn't refund my shipping costs until the thing was actually delivered. What? Why?!); still, the hard working staff at this branch try always to be polite and responsive to the customer, despite never looking happy to be working there themselves. The main PO branch in RI, the structure was once the fanciest and most technologically advanced facility in the USA. Now, for the entire fourth quarter of 2019, the aging facility is getting a facelift. The counter staff are plugging away in very tight corners with less personal space, still doing their jobs serving customer after customer for hours on end. They advise about the best and cheapest way to get something from here to there, take passport photos, and sell stamps as if it's just another day for them. This is a far better spot than the Thayer Street branch. The hours are longer too. As Post Office branches go, this is a more convenient and friendlier spot than even my local city branch (no bulletproof glass between me and the staff that makes it hard to communicate), and there's a parking lot. But, don't think about trying to call them for information! read more

I when order items they go to the same address but in a different town. Trying to get hold of a live person is like pulling teeth bare handed. All you get is computer that can not help and states a human is around because this machine knows all answer . There are things only a human can answer. I mail packages and letters here every week. The staff is attentive and helpful and I've not had any problems with delivery, mail holds, mail forwarding, or package deliveries. The mail carriers who deliver to my home are likewise professional and hardworking. I honestly have to give a plug here to our postal workers because they are essential workers who get very little appreciation! We always focus on when things go wrong but how many letters and packages have you had delivered without issue? It far outweighs the times things have gone amiss. read more

I was the last person on earth with very few complaints about the post office. Not anymore. Went to buy 200 post card stamps at 2:30pm. Waited in a pack of 29 people on the line from hell. Two attendants who may have been the slowest humans in the universe. 20 minutes waiting and only 6 customers were served. I gave up. Stupid, inefficient and non caring. Going to the post office is a drag. I had been putting it off for a while but had to mail something and get stamps. There is a free large parking Lot so that was no problem. I went in figuring I'd have to wait in a huge line. But no , they have self service machines ! I weighed my Package a label spit out and I was done ! Easy. I also got some stamps. Since I was a kid this has always been the go to place to ship out packages for Christmas. They're open extended hours unlike the smaller branches, and almost all packages/mail gets routed through this location, so we always came here. This time around I was sending a package to England, and the clerks were kind and patient the Saturday before Christmas to help me get the package where it needs to go. The building itself has always been mysterious, with old art-deco style exteriors, and the inside looking almost like an airport departures area. This office has all of the amenities, such as passport renewals and self-service. I have never had a bad interaction with a USPS clerk wherever I have been, but these guys take the cake! This is a review where I sing the praises of a post office. Yes, a post office. In a city where there aren't many options, this location is the golden goose -- by far. Ever been to the USPS on Thayer Street? Then you 're familiar with the 7th Circle of Hell as described by Dante. The week before Christmas, I went in to mail a package (along with half the city) and buy holiday stamps. There was a line wrapped 'round the room, and one single solitary person working the four-person desk. One. And she was taking her sweet time, too -- giving the stink eye to anyone who dare ask a question. Being 7 months pregnant, I gave up my place in line after 15 minutes of not moving, resigned to go to UPS and, with great sadness, forego my Christmas stamps. Then my husband, miracle of miracles and smarter than the average bear, suggested we go to 'the big post office'. What was this place? Where? Surely it would be even more crazy than Thayer Street? We arrived, found a place to park in their ample (if slightly odd) parking lot, and I sprinted (well, waddled as fast as I could) inside, trying as best I could to beat the others to the line that must be at least 20 people deep. I was wrong. I was so wrong. Upon entering, laid out before me was a Christmas Miracle: a dozen or so counters with people working at each station, smiling, skillful, quick and cheery. I walked right up to one of them and was done with shipping, postage and holiday greetings in less than 2 minutes. I walked out floating on air, Christmas stamps in hand. This will forever and always be my post office of choice. It's run so well, it's clean, there's parking and there are actually people (plural) working there. And all this at the hight of the holiday season -- I can only imagine what it's like the rest of the year! This is what a USPS should be, people! Well done. read more

Although there are self-service machines (I'm sure they're amazing), I still kind of like to talk to a person. Let me tell you, regardless of who I speak to, these folks are all nice and patient with questions. They must see and hear a lot of stuff every day, being in customer service, and it doesn't show. I've had a passport made, I've sent packages, I've purchased special stamps, I've picked up stored packages -- I've visited just about every station in the place. Everyone has been pleasant. I've never liked a post office before this one! The staff is actually...nice!! And for ALL small business owners, I cannot encourage you enough to ship your packages, particularly documents/checks through USPS vs. UPS or FedEx. They have an overnight envelope service that costs only $19.99, BUT I recently made a Saturday shipment to LA and the attendant told me I'd be fine using regular Priority ($5.60 I believe) and it was scheduled to arrive Monday! While it can be hard to support government-run anything these days, in my opinion, you should do this anyday over supporting privatized companies that are clearly over-charging (it costs me at least $35 to overnight to LA thru UPS or FedEx). One note, apparently they've had a pen theft problem at this branch and no longer provide pens in the common areas. You must sneak yourself up to the desk and quitely ask for a pen to fill out your form, before you get in line. If you arrive to the attendent and ask at that time, they'll make you leave the desk, fill your form out and then come back up. While you don't have to wait in the line again, you do have to wait for the next customer to finish being served before it's your turn. read more

If I could give Teresa 10 stars, I would. I've never had a great experience at USPS before. Good ones are rare too. My impression before today was that USPS staff in general just hate their jobs. I've always been made to feel as if I should apologize to the staff for them having to help process my packages. (I've previously been to the following USPS locations, starting with the least pleasant interactions: Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA; Thayer Street, Providence RI; Exchange Terrace, Providence, RI). But my impression changed after my visit to this USPS location. I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly, patient, and helpful the staff here were. Typically when I send a package, the USPS staff look tired and annoyed, grunt questions at me like "where's this going?" "What type of shipping?". I then have to ask about the different options available because why would I remember what options there are?? But at this USPS location, Teresa listed out all the options with prices before I even had to ask--this should really be the norm. Other than that, Teresa was very cheery and was a real pleasure to interact with. Jean was working alongside her and seemed equally nice and helpful. Definitely recommend this USPS location. Oh and they have a large free parking lot there too so that was very convenient. read more

I only go here because I cannot BEAR to go to the Post Office in North Providence (the lady who works there should be fired) and I only use the self-service machine. Every time I go up to the counter, I am given an attitude because I don't know exactly what I'm doing. Aren't they supposed to be helpful? There are NO pens to fill out labels or forms. I asked someone for a pen and she didn't have one, so I had to drive to Walmart and buy pens and markers then come back. Seriously? -___- One time the self service machine was being repaired/refilled so I stood and waited for it for a while. An employee saw me waiting and rudely told me to "just go to a counter" cause it was going to be a while...I left and came back a few days later. No thanks. I love this post office. It's the central sorting facility for Rhode Island, so when I mail something from here, I know it will get to its destination quickly. Also, the staff are so incredibly friendly. Maybe Peter R. just got someone on an off day. I go there all the time and have never had a bad experience. In fact, they even hand canceled the vintage stamps on my wedding invitations. Lots of post offices won't even do this anymore. Sometimes the line can be long, but they always have at least two or three people working, so it moves quickly. I don't know why you would go anywhere else to mail stuff! read more

If you send mail here you're letter will get anywhere in Rhode Island the next day (probably). 2. This Post Office is open until 9:00pm on weekdays! 9:00pm! No more needing to leave work or dinner early to get to the post office. No Sir-Ree-Bob. This post office is O-P-E-N open when you need it. The service isn't too shabby either. I work from home selling clothing online through various websites so I spend A LOT of time at the post office. I have been visiting this location since I opened in 2011 and I have never once had an issue here. I am on a first name basis with many of the employees and they have always been friendly and helpful. Depending on when you go it can be hectic but then again that is typical for every post office location unless you're in the boonies (I can only assume, mobs of people might be flocking to out of the way post offices as we speak). Some of the employees really do go above and beyond to help you figure out whats the best way to send things out or track down a lost package. Since I moved last year I haven't stopped in to ship things out as I'm now closer to the Centerdale location but when I need to ship out on a Saturday afternoon this is my go to. read more

I have never had a problem with this post office. They've always been friendly, accommodating and polite. The waits aren't super-long, there's parking, and they're open late. In Rhode Island, that's usually enough for a 5-star rating no matter what. This isn't a service that can screw up... I came home from work today and I have all of 22 Rome Ave mail in my box... I don't live at 22 Rome Ave... So I bring that mail to it's proper house and ask if they have my mail, nope is the response I get... I try to call the post office in my town and they tell me they don't send out carriers from there, call the main office in Providence... Good luck with that... No answer, no answer, so call the 800 number... 56 minute wait to talk to someone in Oklahoma... Worthless garbage.. Down right stupidity... 100% incompetence... I'm saying no to all the above, stealing is probably more like it... I'm sure the carrier seen a Christmas card or two and figured he/she needed whatever was in it more than I did... I know this is the Christmas season, and have considered extra time in my 2-Day Priority package I mailed on the 17th. I paid for priority 1-day delivery on dec 7th. I was told by the very nice and knowledgeable postal employee that the expected delivery date dec.8th. It was even printed on my receipt! My daughter's birthday was the 9th. It never arrived! When I called the tracking # I was shocked to hear that it would not be delivered until the 12th! I called the attleboro post office, asked for the postmaster. "Diane" told me she was the postmaster! She told me to come in if the package had still not arrived and I would be reimbursed for the extra money spent on 1-day!!! When I arrived @ post office to speak to postmaster, once again "diane" called to me and said that she said no such thing!!! The saddest part is that I live in attleboro and my daughter lives in ri. Just 45 minutes by car!!! When I asked for "dianne"'s boss she said she was the boss! After calling the providence postmaster's office, I was shocked to find out that mr. John maida is the postmaster of attleboro! I understand mistakes, but lying to me 3 times is unforgivable! Where has integrity and professional courtesy gone?? In her office is a poster framed stating- " rule #1, treat the customer right or someone else will". I should not have to pay for priority mailing that never happened. The customer should never have to take a hit because the post office is tackling unforeseen problems with other delivery companies!!! My mother mailed a package from Attleboro 12-16. It went to this post office and Springfield and back to Attleboro and now is still sitting in this post office on 12-22. The website says there was an error in processing on the 18th and they are working on it. Yet the phone number for this address does not accept calls and the main USPS # only keeps telling me via automated response that "They are working on it." The 2 day priority package mailed the 16th will not arrive by Christmas, if ever, and there is no explanation as to the holdup and where the package is. 4 days later the 02904 location is "working on it." I ordered an out of print record set and had it shipped registered mail from Japan. It took 3 weeks to get here. Finally arrives Monday August 5. I get a peach slip in the mail, telling me to go to 24 Corliss St. to pick up my package anytime after 6:30 August 5. Tuesday August 6, I go to the p.o. box area of the Corliss St. post office as instructed by my peach slip. The man cannot find my package and tells me to go across the street and look for a blue door and ring the bell for someone to help me. I ring the bell, no one comes to the door, so I ask a passing postal worker if he can help me. He goes inside and tells me to wait by the door with the doorbell and someone will be with me shortly. A woman named Debbie comes to the door and I explain to her my situation and hand her my peach slip and a copy of the shipping manifest the man had given me when i initially tried to retrieve my package at the main post office. She tells me to wait and disappears for a few minutes. She returns without my package, but explains to me that A) Someone else was also looking for a missing international registered package and, even more bizarre B) the woman in charge of this sort of thing, Shawna, was new to the facility and unfamiliar with it and I guess the specifics of... Who knows? I was then told to call Shawna herself at 401-752-5208 at around 11 the next morning because she would be busy with dispatch before then and apparently is gone before noon. I was told that if I did not speak to someone that I MUST leave a message. I called the number exactly SIX TIMES. this is the message I received: "You have reached the voicemail system. However the person at 5208 does not subscribe to this service. Call answering can't be completed. Transferring you to an agent. (a few rings, then...) your session can't be completed at this time. Goodbye." I then called 800 ask USPS and the MOST helpful lady answered, but I did not get her name. She explained to me that she had no idea how this package could be lost because, BY LAW, INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED MAIL IS SUPPOSED TO BE STORED UNDER LOCK AND KEY. She called the Corliss post office herself and spoke with someone, but they were less than useless; "i have no idea whats going on down there" were her exact words to me. She filed an inquiry for me and told me that if I did not hear from someone at close of business the next day (friday August 9) i should call my district consumer affairs number. I didnt even wait and called it immediately. They do not answer calls directly at consumer affairs, so you must leave a message. It has been 5 days since I received my peach slip and over a week that the package has been on U.s. soil. Besides my peach slip, Not one person has contacted me to let me know where this package is or that anyone gives a s*#t. Gee, I wonder why no one uses the post office anymore? read more

This was my first time going to the main RI post office. I did my homework beforehand, and showed up on a Friday morning a few minutes before they opened at 7. I had 100 wedding invitations that I wanted hand-canceled -- not a low-maintenance request. I was prepared for eye rolls, extra fees, and maybe a flat-out refusal, based on other invitation stories I had read and heard. A pleasant woman helped me at the counter and said that it would be no problem. No problem! I am used to the surly postal worker at the Post Office on Broad Street, who always sends me back through the line because I have the wrong envelope or form. Not here - no hassle, no headaches, no extra charge. I will definitely be going back. And their hours can't be beat -- 7AM-9PM during the week.
