This is the Centredale Post Office in North Providence, and my experience here has been pretty much exactly what you would hope for from a post office: I come in, take care of whatever I need to take care of, and leave. I've never had a genuinely bad experience here, but I also can't say I've ever walked out thinking, "Wow, what an exceptional post office experience." I'm usually here for something pretty basic, either buying stamps or occasionally sending a package, and the process has always been smooth. The employees I've dealt with have been perfectly pleasant and helpful, and I've never encountered the kind of surly, miserable customer service that seems to be a rite of passage at some government offices. The building itself is clean, and there is a good amount of parking, which is actually a bigger deal than it sounds. The location on Smith Street is convenient, although pulling out onto Smith can be a little annoying when traffic is heavy. My one real complaint is the lunch situation. There have been times when I've shown up during the middle of the day only to find the counter closed for lunch, and the timing has seemed somewhat arbitrary. On one occasion I came around 2:00 PM and they were closed for lunch. I came back the following day around noon and, again, they were closed for lunch. Maybe there is a perfectly logical staffing schedule behind it, but from the customer's perspective it can feel like trying to guess when the post office has decided it is lunchtime. The posted retail hours are generally 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays, but a midday closure can be frustrating if you have a package that needs to go out or simply need to buy stamps and have limited flexibility during the workday. Overall, though, this is a perfectly adequate neighborhood post office. It's clean, there's plenty of parking, the staff have always been nice to me, and the basic transactions I've needed have been handled without any drama. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this particular post office, but if you live in North Providence or happen to be in the Centredale area, there's really nothing here that would make me avoid it either. Three stars feels about right: competent, convenient, and perfectly fine, just not exactly an experience worthy of a commemorative stamp.

I got a bubble mailer and filled out the information. I mailed the small package with USPS Ground Advantage. Tracking is included for free on all Ground Advantage packages. The receipt indicates the destination, weight, estimated delivery date, tracking #, insurance up to $100.00 included, and grand total. The package arrived safely and earlier than the estimated delivery date. Thank you USPS for processing and delivering mail and packages to individuals and businesses in the U.S.

Lines can be long, but the self service kiosk can help me most times. Sometimes people jam the package bins, though, which somehow goes unnoticed by staff, and means you have to get in the sometimes long lines anyways. There are a wide range of extra services offered here, and tons of a wider variety of the free priority packaging options than most other locations have. There's a large parking lot, but people whip through it, so be careful! This location and its convenient extended hours are such an asset for local small business owners and residents alike.

I was misguided in assuming the other USPS would be more convenient simply because I was driving by it; I'm sure we can agree that customer service trumps geography when you have the choice. But I'll save the story of that frustrating Friday for the appropriate review, and instead detail the positive aspects of the Olneyville Post Office that put that other, lesser USPS to shame. I never have a problem finding parking here. There are about 6 or 7 dedicated spots in a small lot across the street, and a few street spots out front. And the post office is located between two intersections with stop lights, so I usually don't feel like I am risking my life crossing the street to the front door, either. I rarely wait in line for long here. Even on the busiest days for the USPS, the queues at this post office move at a reasonable pace despite the fact that I've never seen more than two people behind the counter at the same time. Best of all, there is no sense of claustrophobia, with plenty of natural and artificial light, and lots of room both in the foyer, where the post office boxes reside, and in the customer service area -- where two or three large tables are available for boxing and addressing packages. One of the regular clerks can come off as curt, but I think her personality is just a bit brusque, and I have gotten her to crack a smile on more than one occasion. Service is generally pleasant and staff are usually as helpful as possible. If you wait in line to speak to a clerk to consult about packaging, they let you step aside and pack your item and then cut to the front of the line when you are finished. Even when I have witnessed language barriers between patrons and clerks, I have never seen frustration from the latter, only patience and care. Yes, patience and care. At the post office. I guess you can't blame a small town girl for taking it for granted, but now I definitely know not to.
