Next I called them to discuss and my particular need had to be transacted in person for security. I appreciate they are trying to keep my info safe. (insert wonky face emoji) And so I find myself at the SSA in Warwick. It's a large building. Plenty of parking with handicap spots close to the entrance. GPS took me to the correct parking area. Located on the ground floor, turn right inside the entrance and they are the first door on the right. A security guard is across from the entrance. On the left is a kiosk where you sign in. Answer a few questions about your visit and a ticket with a number will print out. Have a seat in their large waiting area and keep an eye on the monitor on the front wall. The left side of the screen displays what numbers are being served and where. There is no audio que that a new number has been updated, you have to keep checking. When my number came up on the screen I walked back to a row of office cubicles and entered the room number listed on the monitor. I presented my drivers license and let them know what I needed. The staff member was very pleasant, smiled, answered my questions. They entered some info into the computer, let me know what to expect and I was on my way in minutes. The office was not busy when I arrived and I was in and out in about 15 minutes having achieved my goal. Yay. I appreciate the friendly, efficient resolution.

I was gifted a preferred plate and needed to make a trip to transfer them to my vehicle. I may have been able to do this via the mail, but since I had a narrow timeframe, I opted to go in person. Reservations for the main location in Cranston generally book 2-3 weeks out. I made 2 appointments for the same day, one for the morning and the other for the afternoon in case I needed to gather additional information and didn't want to wait another 2-3 week for an appointment. One good thing about COVID is that it forced a restructuring of the DMV, which ended up being better for customers and employees, so many of the updates are still in place today. Step 1: make your reservation online for the day, time, and location you want to visit Step 2: arrive during your scheduled time Step 3: security will ask to see your confirmation before allowing you access to the building Step 4: wait in the check in line and hope that you have all of the forms and documents you need to get whatever you came for done Step 5: get called to the check in window (there are 4 of them) Show the employee behind the plexiglass your confirmation number, hand over your paperwork and forms for them to review and validate. If you have everything that you need, you receive a deli style ticket with a number on it and get to proceed to the upstairs waiting area. If you don't have all the paperwork and forms you need, you'll need to straighten that out before you go any further Step 6: wait in the second floor waiting area. The seats are so worn out that the faux leather is completely work off, leaving a spongy foam cushion to sit on. Even with an appointment, I waited 40 min for my number to be called Step 7: when your number is called, proceed to the numbered booth/window the automated system told you to enter and hand your paperwork over to the employee sitting behind that plexiglass. This person may or many not be friendly, but as long as they can take care of what you went to the DMV for, that doesn't matter. Pay your fee, collect your receipt, and leave.

First it brought me past the high school, but when I turned around, it brought me past the Civic Center. It seemed to think the parking lot was a road. Just FYI if you are using an on line map to get here. I have not dealt with whomever handles the booking for the venue, and do not know about the fees and limitation on usage, but the wide open space was good for the holiday market and would probably be a good location for a winter farmers market as well as sporting events. Both the children's room librarian and the checkout desk librarian were friendly. It was very easy to sign up for a card and I enjoyed hearing more about the library. The children's room is adorable and was chock full of awesome books. I appreciated the back to school book suggestion lists that they had for every age from baby to fifth grade! I checked out quite a few from the list. Parking is easy out front and if you want to stay longer than 30 minutes there is more street parking just ahead of the library and the town parking lot a block away. The patrons are mostly older individuals who look like genuine book lovers, along with young parents and children who likely come for the activities and the dedicated children's area. It is the third largest city in Rhode Island with approximately 82,000 people; it was the second largest up until 2017, Cranston surpassed it. I recall it being a nicely run city with surplus in tax dollars, whereas neighboring cities were in deficit. There are so many nice areas and things to do. T.F. Green Airport is the main RI airport located there. The Warwick Mall is a popular spot to go shopping. They have wonderful parks too; Warwick City Park, Rocky Point State Park, Goddard Memorial State Park, and Conimicut Point Park. There are many restaurants and bars; it's close in proximity to Cranston nd Providence. Overall a great city to live, play, and work in.
