Most of the post office close around 5pm. I was here after snow storm day and 2 windows were opened :) it was a big line but I was only on line about 10min. Put music on then waited.... It was pretty quick :) so, do not frustrated from the line. (Many ppl wrote it "LONG LINE") I also recommend to do the self checking. They have ground floor and upstairs. I took one star of the escalator was off. I go here time to time and sometimes one side to the up is on. so, if you don't like to use the stairs, avoid here. The times I've come the line has moved quickly and efficiently. They were all courteous and didn't seem needlessly rude at all. Some customers were unpleasant and I did see them get the energy they deserved to put it nicely. It has nice artwork and sculptures around the building and they really put up quite a bit of decorations for Breast Cancer awareness month which I haven't seen any other places do. What is off putting is the smell. It always smells of homeless or has some horrible odor emitting from the place especially at the entrance and the first floor. I would definitely think that if I could smell it and other customers smell it then the custodial staff would also be able to smell it as well. read more

Wow, this post office is huge! It had two floors and an escalator to get on top. The self service machines and mailboxes were downstairs so, I had to go upstairs to get help. They had so many reps and they were very quick. The cashier I had was a bit rude even though I was trying very hard to be nice. I paid for flat rate envelope and mailed a book in it. She kept asking what was in the envelope even though I answered the question on the screen that it was nothing flammable or prohibitted from being mailed. She then kept feeling up the package trying to see if I was lying about it being a book. Then after I left, I had stopped to get at the counter to get some mailers, and I saw her just staring at my package and then trying to read my address. I have no idea what she was so concerned about the item when you can feel that it has and looks like a book. read more

Not a fan. I've been here twice as it's the closest post office to me and the people are always rude. I don't understand it. The ones I've dealt with are not helpful and have zero customer service. As in, you ask them questions and they don't respond or barely respond, as if it's a chore to help you. I'm sure it's a difficult job with a lot of nasty people, but I see no reason to be rude to nice, polite customers just trying to get their errands done. I'd been to this post office a few more times over the years and everything was fine - but when I went there yesterday, I witnessed a very negative experience and therefore I'm lowering my rating. The customer at the counter next to me was mailing several items that would have a complicated delivery and the clerk was apparently incapable of handling the situation, so the customer requested a supervisor. The supervisor turned out to be *incredibly* unpleasant and impatient, including raising his voice very soon into the conversation. One of my favorite post offices. It may just be my favorite. The art is so beautiful. I wish some of it was lower on the wall so I could get a closer look. There are sculpture pieces best viewed from on the escalators. I'm not letting go of the railing to take a great photo!! The escalators are steep. If you enjoy huge space while you wait in line this is the best post office. It's in a great midtown location to me. I frequently bring my mail here or buy stamps. Glad I didn't need a teller today since the line was long!! Today the red sculpture in front was being refurbished. I'm glad they keep this post office in tip top shape. Never ever use USPS for important valuable items. Ever. May 27: My sister pays for Priority Mail Express 1-Day w/ Tracking for the British Consulate in Manhattan to mail her American passport & UK working visa (which cost around $1000 and allows her to return to London to work for another 2 years) to my apartment in Midtown West. Her return flight flies back to London June 5. Wednesday, May 28: No arrival. No update in Tracking. 5th Day: My sister is freaking out. She comes to the realization that USPS has either lost her passport or someone stole it. USPS customer service tells us they didn't have her complete address, can't locate the package, and suggests that my sister get a new passport and re-start the visa process. She has to pay to reschedule/cancel her flight to London. Her company tells her they won't be able to pay for a 2nd visa process. UGH! 8th Day: While my sister is working on paperwork to apply for a new passport, tracking miraculously updates to show the parcel has arrived in Belmar, NJ! It then travels to Philadelphia... June 4 (9th Day): Parcel arrives BACK in Midtown, ONE DAY before her flight back to London. Nightmare ends! What most likely happened was that someone mistakenly threw the parcel in the wrong bin, which caused 9 days of worry, crying, and agony. Apparently this happens often at USPS with passports, visas and engagement rings. So...again...don't use USPS. So annoying that the self service downstairs doesn't have supplies plus the boxes don't work and the boxes outside are gone. I hate walking all the way here on Sunday in the cold to have to walk back the next day because nothing is working. I try to go off days and times to avoid the excruciatingly long lines and the mean old check out lady that bites but nothing helps. I brace myself for their mind-blowing incompetence every time I know someone has sent me a package or certified mail. They routinely cannot locate certified mail in the package room. Their response is to ping-pong the customer (they treat the customer as someone who is bothering them while they are, as far as I have been able to determine, doing nothing) back and forth across the lobby until they conclude that the certified mail can't be found at any window. If at any time the customer become even slightly frustrated with them, this is somehow not their, but the customer's fault. They have also misdelivered multiple packages; on at least one occasion the contents of one of those packages was then stolen. They fail to deliver pickup tags so that there is no awareness by the customer that a package is waiting. If the package is actually waiting and they haven't already sent it back, it's just like certified mail, can't find it, hot potato the customer around the various windows. Another time they wouldn't give me the package because my driver's license is issued from another state and didn't match the address on the package. I said, do you really think I am an impostor with the same name who somehow gets the notices at the New York address out of a locked mailbox for that person with the same name, and shows up randomly to claim them? What a coincidence! They didn't have an answer for that, just like they generally don't for anything. It's a miracle any mail is successfully delivered from this facility to any addressees at all. read more

As someone who works a 9-5 job and sells online via multiple platforms I rely on USPS locations that open early or close late...this location does both which is great. I ship out Priority Mail Prepaid parcels several times weekly. I appreciate the fact that this location is self service friendly and shipping boxes and drop offs are easily accessible avoiding lines. My main issue here is the customer service and inconsistency. The staff here look miserable and have terrible attitude. I inquired if they had Priority packing tape, which is free along with the boxes if you're shipping Priority. The woman told me "no we haven't had that for 2 or 3 years". 2 or 3 years??? I literally just used some two weekends ago at the Little Neck Post Office. The only option I had was to purchase tape but luckily I avoided it with my own scotch tape and self adhesive boxes. read more

I paid for and shipped out a package from this location and it never arrived to the location. I could not find my receipt with tracking because it was 3 weeks later, so I tried to go get my tracking (which I know is customers responsibility) but I was just covering my bases because I am now out $215... including shipping. One of the staff told me that the teller I worked with (#6) would be able to look up my tracking for me if I gave him my information! he was out on lunch break so I waited patiently for 30 minutes for him to come back. When he came back the manager and the teller were both HORRIBLE to me, raising their voices, telling me that it's impossible to look that up and they can only see information from today, (like I know how their systems work) just because I was simply asking for help with my LOST package. They tried to make me feel terrible like I killed someone or something. It's simple all you have to do is say I'm sorry there's no way to look that up. THATS ALL, it's not hard to be nice The manager was smacking her lips and said "you can wait here longer until he comes back if you don't believe me" I left in tears! This is my local post office which is large and conveniently located. The problem is with my current letter carrier who takes it upon himself to squeeze large packages into my mailbox damaging the contents. This started happening this year with items delivered from abroad so they can't be returned. My building's mailboxes are right next to the doorman so packages can easily be left with him. Closest post office to my old apt. So I guess, I'm grateful it exists. Upon entering, you will see a long escalator that leads to the main floor. Lines are usually long. Service is not all that friendly. Honestly, they can be pretty rude at times. They are quick though, so at least your interaction time in limited. It's very spacious in here. Things have also been neat and organized the times I've visited. Get what you need. Mail out that package and be on your merry way. read more

I know many people have a love/hate relationship with the post office, but I actually enjoy using this one due to the size, hours and pleasant interactions with the employees. They seem to genuinely like their job, and go above and beyond to make sure the customers are content, and all inquiries are addressed in a patient and helpful manner. I went in today after work because I was planning on getting a PO Box (not anymore though because, like I said, horrible customer service). I already filled out everything online so I just needed to provide my identification and get my specific box # & key. The clerk or whatever we call them was just the worst. Well, the second one.... because this woman I ended up having to deal with wasn't even the clerk I was supposed to be engaging with. But, she interrupted the conversation I was having with the first clerk (she was in the middle of telling me where to go for PO Box app stuff) and told me to show her what I had. I started to explain what I was trying to do, and that's the first time she started speaking over me - & clearly wasnt listening to me - telling me to show her the paper (app form) I had. I gave her the paper and started to try to continue to explain I'm working in NYC for the summer so I'm at an Airbnb and dont have a LEASE in the traditional sense. She, once again, continuously spoke over me, telling me I needed proof I have a physical address, which I was TRYING to tell her I could offer through my Airbnb booking information (which has the dates of my stay, the location of my stay, etc). She ignored me and just kept repeating the same thing about me needing proof of address. Beyond the disrespect of literally not listening to me and speaking over me, she was talking to me like I was an idiot when SHE was the one who was failing to understand what I was saying. Eventually, I asked her if she was telling me I can't get a PO Box because I'm subleasing. She didn't even answer my question... she just repeated the same mess she'd been saying since this hot mess of a conversation started. At that point, I just gave up and left. I called USPS customer service AS SOON as I got out of that building and was able to pull up the number on my phone (their automated menu system is horrible, btw) & after waiting on hold long enough to go to MAC in Bloomingdale's& try on a few foundations, swatch some lipsticks, and complete a purchase, I finally got to an actual human rather than that awful hold music. She was much more pleasant. I told her what happened and was apologetic about what happened and put me on hold briefly (presumably to talk to someone who would know what to do?). When she got back on, she said that the problem is they dont consider proof of an Airbnb purchase enough of a legal document to verify address. To be clear: if you rent an Airbnb, you've entered into a contract... But that's no fault of the woman on the phone. She asked someone else and that's what she was told. She asked if I had my identification and if it was valid (not that it really matters regarding my experience because the clerk literally didnt look at anything I had). I told her I have a valid driver's license, a passport, a military ID AND my ID to get into my office building which is literally a street cross away from this stupid post office - and that when I went to the post office I had three of the four things I just listed. She said she wasnt sure what that clerk's problem was because having two valid IDs should be fine. She also asked why I didnt talk to a post master (the answer of which is that option was never offered to me at this God awful post office and the clerk just kept insisting I couldnt get a PO Box). The woman on the phone also said that having an office ID for a building right around the corner should be enough for them to see I live in the area. I thanked her - because she was nice and as helpful as she could be - then, once I hung up, I put in a refund request for the PO Box. Maybe the other clerks at this USPS location aren't disrespectful individuals who speak over customers and refuse to look at any documentation you have, but I definitely WILL NOT be returning to this location, even though it's incredibly convenient for me location-wise. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I've worked my share of customer service jobs and that woman's behavior was completely unacceptable. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

Seems like all USPS locations in New York City are horrible. USPS employees need some serious customer service training and attitude adjustment. The majority of them LACK PEOPLE SKILLS and one can probably say many lack all skills needed to perform in this job. I have a better response time and am stress free when using the self-service computers. The self-service computers are beyond functional and efficient and fortunately help me avoid the USPS employees. I'm incredibly thankful for that. read more

This post office sucks! It's around the block from my office so unfortunately I am always here. The service is so slow and there is always a line. Also, the employees are so rude. I once asked the women a question and she yelled at me and didn't even answer the question!! If there was another post office closer I would go there instead. Update: this post office still sucks! Let me clarify the actual post office is big and beautiful but it is the people that work inside the building that suck! It seems like if you have an attitude and hate your job that they send you to this location. No one can be bothered here to answer a question. As a long time avid stamp collector I was able to add to my collection of nice yet meaningful stamps where I was very specific to the postal clerk as I did not want to purchase a full sheet but literally one or two select pieces of First Class stamps. The clerk took the time to search her stock and went to the stock room (all without complaint) to fulfill my order. She was extremely pleasant, warm, efficient and super nice where in today's extremely callous and dismissive world such compassion of the overall human spirit enable customers a happier, positive life outlook. literally one of the most dreaded places after Manhattan, I keep coming back as they open before 9am and are close to my work but I really regret it every time. Generally my complaint is that the package drop off machines always seem to be broken. It's lovely to be able to use the self-service machines to pay for postage but if I can't open the bin to drop that package what's the point?? However - today I had a whole new issue. I needed to mail my mom a mother's day gift card, I had put it into a small mailer and I wasn't sure of the postage it needed - I couldn't risk not having enough and it being returned to me and my poor mother being empty handed on Sunday (plus see the note above about the drop bins being broken) so I proceeded to the desk to use a representatives assistance. When I got there the woman at the window (Beatrice) was busy yelling at a 90 yr old woman for accidentally picking up a felt tipped pen rather than a normal pen to fill out some sort of application. I felt bad for the older woman but as I walked in midway through the interaction tried not to judge Beatrice (the USPS worker) for her alarming 'tude. When it was my turn I gave Beatrice my mailer and asked to purchase postage for it. Unfortunately I made the FATAL mistake of putting my credit card in the reader too early. She proceeded to give me a lecture on reading prompts and waiting before attempting to pay for risk of crashing their entire system. Really? I am a 28 yr old grown woman not her 5 yr old child. The post office opened at 8am; it was probably 8:10 at this point. There is no excuse for her to EVER be speaking to customers like that but certainly not at 8:10am and over minor things like picking up the wrong pen or using the chip reader 2 seconds too early. I had a parcel sent from overseas which when I tracked it was marked "out for delivery" on Feb. 5 without any updates afterwards. When I contacted USPS and asked for the status of my parcel, of course after numerous attempts trying to reach different departments, I received no clarifications. Then through one of the provided numbers on Yelp, I talked with a lady who was very cooperative and willing to help. she was also shocked from what had happened. But the final answer was really disappointing too: "If your parcel is not delivered in a month, contact your insurance company to see how they can compensate." Been here a few times to send off letters or other misc. things but the most recent time the other day I had to send off some items and being that I usually do things by e-mail or online apps, was not sure about pricing and forever stamps for sending off my items. I used to come here when I worked closer to this area and when I needed to apply for a passport, a number of years ago. It is a large post office, and there are usually a good number of people working there. The lines move relatively fast, and personally I've found the service to be nice. I jump my review from 3-4 stars, because they have a separate store just for purchasing stamps and some basic supplies (boxes, envelopes, etc.). My name is Stacy Dunning. I shipped an expensive dress from California to 408 E. 92nd street NYC, a high rise building. My item was put on the truck on 12/11/18 for delivery, but never got scanned as delivered. I have called at least 30 times, but NO ONE ever answers! This is no joke. They absolutely do not answer the phone as others have also said. I need to talk to the negligent driver, but how can I when no one will pick up? This could have been easily rectified, but not under these horrible circumstances. Since it has not scanned as delivered, though we suspect it was left with the reception at the building, I have re-scheduled delivery to this customer. No updates, though it was supposed to be acknowledged today with either a lost package, delivery scan, or something. They are acting as if this request doesn't even exist though it was done on the 800 number and I have confirmation. Thanks you lousy FDR USPS for giving away an expensive dress. This will result in all hell breaking loose with a complaint to the Postmaster, Consumer Affairs, and an insurance claim. A simple acknowledgement or a two second gun scan could have avoided all of this. This is your job to scan items as delivered especially when someone highlights on the package that it's insured. This isn't some inconvenience to do your job and scan items when delivered! I will take my small business needs elsewhere. This office is incompetent! They should be shut down and re-trained. I now know if your item weighs over 2 pounds, FDR will deliver it. I would rather get a root canal than ever go through this again! read more

The teller seated at station 2 on the evening of 1/3/22 should be fired. Not helpful at all. Terrible customer service, expects you to do her entire job for her. Probably where the term "Going Postal" got coined. I work at home and got an email that my package from Asia was delivered. Went downstairs...nothing. Waited a day or two..nothing. Went to my local PO--we don't handle that call FDR. Called and called over a dozen times then finally got 1, 2 , 3 people over the course of a week who swore up and down they'd check and get back...NONE did. Thank you "Miss Sapp" (twice!), thank you "Hoight" thank you "Martin" --. Because no one would call me back I had to make a trip all the way there but like the Wizard of Oz behind the curtain no one would come out to speak with me. Again "leave the tracking number and we'll follow-up" ...NOTHING. The package comes all the way from a far off continent...but some knucklehead can't manage to hand it to the doorman. Sometimes the wait can be long but the receptionist are generally friendly and helpful. I had prepaid for a padded envelope and a worker who was answering questions for the line offered to go get one from the back since they don't usually stock them. I'm impressed that they had someone answer general questions for people on line. They also have kiosks and had an expedited line for prepaid shipping. If you don't have a special case, your trip can be quick. 4 stars because otherwise the line is usually 5-10 minute wait. read more
