I've been going to this Post office for a while, let alone sending packages for a while. I have never had anything "rejected" because of "the way I tapped the package". Trying to push $4 tape on me or a new envelope for $3. I reused packaging from Amazon, and used blue tape, and for some reason, the clerk wasn't happy with it. My package will now be sent out late because of this. I refuse to pay more money for something I sent out perfectly fine before. Super not cool. read more

We went there yesterday, after having not been there since I wrote my previous review. Initially there was only one clerk selling stamps/etc. and she sounded quite friendly, but eventually another clerk was available and she's the one whose line we ended up in. Sure the post office isn't always somewhere you want to go and they have been known for not being the best. But I go here occasionally and everyone has been kind to me. Usually goes pretty quick too. I write to praise the post office. A work friend was surprised that people post reviews of anything other than restaurants here. I am writing for a reason. I have used this branch due to proximity. I often have meetings near here, once a month. The other background is I try to post positive reviews. I mean honest and positive. I avoid negative ones, unless I am truly aggrieved. I have three reasons. First, there is too much negative sentiment on the internet. Second, most complaints are about first world problems or common misunderstandings. Third, I sometimes have to be a repeat customer despite a bad experience. So I'm mindful of karma. That is all important to understanding why this place is good. I rarely wait. They are efficient. The two post office outlets closest to my apartment are terrible. They are slow, measured not just by the crowds and lines but per person in terms of transaction time. So this place is better than it's peers, enough so that I save up items until I will be nearby. read more

I needed to send a small package to the Netherlands. I went online last night and was able to print out a shipping label: Priority Mail Flat Rate International Padded Envelope I went to the Bryant Park Post Office this AM and the attendant looked at the shipping later and sighed "oh jeez" like he had never seen one before. He then told me "we don't have the padded envelopes here, you have to go another post office like at Grand Central". When I questioned that this seemed like a big facility and I was surprised they wouldn't have them he looked at me deadpan like I had insulted him and said "well I went to BJ's last night and they didn't have hot sauce". The level of rudeness and dismissiveness was astounding, and not even attempting to ask someone else if they had a solution for me. This is Civil Service at it's absolute worse. This man clearly had no concern for his consequence and should not be employed (with my tax dollars) extolling the attitude that I was subjected to. read more

I am a small connoisseur of the US Postal Service. I know how to use the automatic teller machine and I can fill out my customs forms like a pro. I know the difference between parcel post and first class and I know when insurance is worth it and when its not. As far as New York Post Offices go, the 43rd St location has it pretty good. They open early (7:30 am) and the lines are pretty short in the morning relative to its 38th St neighbor (who opens at 9 am and has loooong lines). This location would benefit from a renovation as the layout is a tad awkward, but the short lines and friendly tellers make this a good choice. Typically they have 2-4 tellers open at a given time, which is the norm nowadays for a post office of this size. I find that this location's tellers aren't as knowledgeable as the 38th St one, so do your research if you have a complicated shipment Avoid coming at lunch (this goes for ANY post office) because the lines are a little nuts. And if you greet the tellers with a smile, you'll be treated in kind. read more

With this kind of attitude and mediocre service, no wonder USPS is soon going out of business. And now they change the open time to early morning and closes at 3 in the afternoon? How will they compete with FedEx when there are 3 of them nearby? I'd rather wait in line for the APC machine than being treated like I asked for free service. One of the teller is acting like he can't wait to get retired, so why don't just quit already? If you hate dealing with people, you should consider looking for a new job. Well I have been here twice. 1. An average of 5-8 mins of waiting line, which is not bad at all. 2. Quiet 3. I wish workers smile. 4. Not racist. Black woman, who helps us to get mailing done quick is really rude. I mean she just doesn't know how to be patient. But she works hard. This is by far the WORST experience I've ever had at a post office. I was on line for 30 min, the lady who finally saw me (I think Vivian was her name) was so incredibly rude. She tried to turn me away within 5 seconds until the lady who I'm guessing is the manager said "it's fine you can help her, all you have to do is ....". It took her all of 2 minutes to help. Before I left I said, oh I just have a question. She looks at me and says "I can only help you with one thing at a time, get back on line". I couldn't believe it, you want me to wait another 30 minutes to ask you a question?! You haven't even heard what it is yet!!! They really do not care at all, so extremely rude! The only one good thing about this post office is Naomi, she's helped me both times I've been there when nobody else would. Thanks Naomi! read more

Never really had any issues here.. I've experienced the self serve machines before and have also waited in line (for certified mail). There are 3 self serve machines and the wait to use them is minimal, unless you get someone who has no idea what the hell they are doing. But then usually at that point there is a friendly woman that works at the usps who is always there to help. She's great with any questions and can direct you to whatever you need. She also makes an effort in asking people on the line to see a clerk what they are here for to see if she can expedite their time there by hoping on a self serve machine. Being between two usps, I usually choose this one because of that one very helpful staff member. The only thing is sometimes the flat rate stuff isn't stocked and readily available. read more

Actually, zero stars. I had a package to return and mailed it from USPS at W 43 btw 5 and 6. It cost $7.90 to send, and I paid it. A week later, the package reappears at my home address. I returned to 43 St., where manager Ms. Jones told me that clerks "don't see 'from' and 'to'" and that I would have to re-mail the package at my expense. We were both calm, but when I said that I'd done everything right--put the return label on the box, paid for shipment of it--and that it was the clerk's mistake, she reiterated the same nonsense explanation and also called me "princess" several times. I wasn't acting like a princess, only like a baffled customer, and that Ms. Jones called me "princess" at least 3 times in front of a long line of customers was embarrassing and definitely unwarranted. The clerk who processed my package the first time made an error, plain and simple. She didn't pay attention to "to" and "from"--but isn't that what mail is all about? I go to the W 43 St. PO all the time and have never had problems like this: incompetence that's somehow my problem, and also some humiliation. read more

Why am I reviewing a post office? Isn't that like reviewing a McDonalds or a Duane Reade? Where theoretically the merchandise should be identical at all locations, and the experience is equally disappointing every time? Not so, my friends. This is one of the best post office locations I have been to and I felt my 4 star review was needed to balance out the myriad of unjustified one and two star reviews for this location. The staff here is consistently more pleasant than any other NY post office I've been to, and after 4 apartments and a few different workplaces I have had a lot of traffic at many a P.O. There is one woman I always try and wait for in line who smiles, is patient, lets me cut back in line when I mess up the invariably complex process of addressing envelopes and sticking things in the right places on international mail. She lets me take my time, thanks me profusely, and wishes me a nice day. Every time. The rest of the employees may not have a demeanor quite so stellar, but I have never felt annoyed, disrespected or belittled by these USPS employees as I admittedly have at other locations. The lines are never that bad (comparatively), but they do lose a star for closing at 3 which is freaking ridiculous, I admit. But otherwise, the helpful staff make me almost enjoy my trips to the post office! Well, no, that's not humanly possible, but this station is as close as I've gotten to feeling that way. read more

I went today at 2:30pm and it was quiet. I got a phone call and ended up on the phone for a good 10 minutes watching Denise, the friendliest postal worker ever help tons of people find the right envelopes or boxes and shipping slips. By the time I was off the phone, the line was about 4 people long. I get in line and was in and out in 5 mins! The woman who helped me was a typical kind of grumpy postal worker, but she got the job done. Meanwhile, Denise was over there introducing herself to people, calling them sweet heart and mr. man! She was great and I didn't even talk to her. Highly recommend using this post office around that 2-3 o'clock time frame. in and out! read more

Caveat: I did not have to stand in the service line because I only needed to use the self-service machine to mail a small package. The service line looked very long. This post office only has one self service machine, when I got there around 10:30 am there was only one person in front of me. Got in an out in 10 minutes. The place looked clean and stocked. If you can't find the entrance coming from the east side, just keep walking. You'll find it. read more

No on in this post office is helpful. If they truly believe that they're being helpful, they're delusional. I've had to go here on multiple occasions for work and I've never had a positive experience. I've brought boxes that were labeled correctly, however there was an error on the stamp/payment. I wasn't explained how to fix it. I was yelled at, pointed at, and consistently interrupted. Another time, I brought a box down. Following a postal worker's orders (a postal worker from this location), I changed the date. I know realize that not only is this incorrect, it's ILLEGAL. I was informed this by another postal worker from this location who also shouted at me, told me to point to the person in the post office who told me to do that. I felt extremely uncomfortable doing so, so she said, "That's what I thought. You're wrong. Don't do that again". I would stop going if they weren't the closest to my office. We're changing offices in August and I'm counting down the days. These people must be either so underpaid that they're horrible to customers, or they feel that this is the way to behave. This post office closes at 3pm. So, there's always going to be a line of people who had to mail something during their lunch break (approx. 11-2:30pm). Either way, you're going to be waiting. Give yourself a good 20 minutes if you need to come here after 11am. The self service machine is this post office's salvation. read more

This is where I come to mail odd-sized stuff home (west coast), so I don't have to haul it on the plane, train or automobile. Just bring your bag of newly-acquired crap, some packaging tape and buy a box at the post office. Pack it yourself and it's ready to ship. Got reamed here, though. This post office is close to where I work, so I come here whenever I have a package to be sent. Do you best to hit this place before noon, cause once people come over their lunch break, the queue never goes away (and that goes double over the holiday season in December.) Sure, the place is falling apart, and the staff is somewhat cranky - hey, it's a post office! In most cases, the people at the booths are nice and sometimes funny. Just treat them with respect and be pleasant and I'm sure you won't have too many problems. read more

Rarely do I find long lines here, but the customer service is God awful. Cold, rude and sarcastic is how i find the lady who wanders the floor and some of the tellers. Use the automatic machine if you find a long line of people. This place can use a sprucing. read more

Worst post office I have ever been to - even a trip to the dentist is better than this! The line was about 15 people deep, and with 3 people on staff (don't even get me started on the staff - they all looked like they hated their jobs) the wait was ridiculously long. I understand that government agencies such as this can be extremely inefficient but this was on a whole new level. The staff member who served me sent me back to update my customs labels twice - perhaps if you have your customers clear instructions you would avoid any further mishaps. Get there before noon or you might have to face lunch hour rush!! They open early at 7:30am and mail gets picked up twice a day. I have also used an automatic teller machine, pretty simple to use, wish they had more than one to beat the rush hours! Hands down the worst post office there is. First, this is a post office located in one of the most densely populated zip codes and closes at 3pm! Second, something's always broken- today their system couldn't process registered mail. Third, the counters are perpetually understaffed with numerous workers wandering around seemingly without purpose or a care in the world. Certainly the last thing they care about are their customers. I know how inherently inefficient government services can be, but this branch just takes it to a whole new level. The USPS needs to consider a major overhaul of this location or close it down entirely and save us taxpayers the expense and aggravation of keeping it running. read more

Open at 7am and this is great for those of us who works in the area to swing by before going into the office and don't leave until 8pm!! Came in two days in a row because I have some ebay stuff to send off. First day, lady behind the counter very nice and accommodating. Second day, man behind the counter was grumpy. It's a hit or miss, but guess what, afterall is USPS. I don't mind the rudeness because the USPS guys up on 85th st is worse, all i care about is get my stuff shipped and i'm able to come in/out ASAP! that's all it matters. read more

I work a few blocks from this location so whenever I have to send packages, I will stop here before I go to work. This place opens at 7:30am yet at 8:30am (for the 2 occasions that I was there), there were only 2 clerks on duty. With 12 available counters, ONLY 2 were active. Don't they realize us morning people wanna beat the lunch crowd in mailing packages or buying rolls of stamps? I understand that there has been cutbacks and layoffs but to have over 10 people on line at 8:30am, that's just WRONG! It's cool that you're clocked in and getting paid (for not being at the counters) but we wanna get to WORK too! On a more positive note, 2 counters became 3 by the time 9:00am hit (that was when I left--*sigh*). read more

It's a post office people. I've determined that the best time to go to the post office is when it is pouring rain outside because there will be no one else waiting in line. I guess the only problem is that you and your packages are soaking wet. Possibly a minimal price to pay in order to avoid post office lines? Anyways, the entrance is a little easy to pass. If you're coming from 6th avenue and pass the Princeton/Columbia/Williams Club, you've gone too far. Close to the BDF 7 trains is a nice added touch. Five star service! I dropped by here right at closing (Janet was locking the door) the day before Thanksgiving. I stood outside for a second dumbfounded as j know most people are, after you've made a valiant effort to send a package. She pleasantly let me in with some good natured ribbing. Sharon helped me and was very nice and understanding. I can't tell you how much of difference some great human customer service does in someone's day. Wow! I've gone here twice. The first time was quite pleasant; a long-haired, older white man helped me out. He was patient and helpful. This last time, I was "helped" by a older, curled hair, black woman who was the antithesis of the first clerk. She was impatient and unhelpful and sadly, not just with me. I left without mailing my letter - which, given the 30 minute wait at 1pm, was not ideal. I know I will need to visit the post office again and quite probably this one since it is the closest. I also know I will allow people to go ahead of me if I end up with this woman as the next clerk. A bit more waiting is a good thing if it means I don't have to deal with unpleasantness. read more
