Graphic novels are eligible for Media Mail and one lady persists with the idea that they are not education and are considered comic books! She denied putting a label on the box even though the label had been printed on my first encounter occasion. Then on my next visit she had denied any service with accepting the package and said that she will not provide me a receipt as well because I threw in the word graphic novel so I can explain to her that they are considered books as well--although every item in my package was a book to be delivered to ThriftBooks.com. This post office locked myself and 20 other people inside against their will for 15 minutes during a pandemic at 3:49 pm on July 25th. One of the workers accidentally locked all the doors and went on a break as the only other worker working the retail window claimed she could not get up to help unlock the door and looked at me and other customers as if we were crazy! Several customers called 911 in an attempt to free themselves from the situation. The original employee who locked all the doors finally emerged, showing no sympathy for the chaos she created and took her time unlocking the wrong door, relocking us back in, causally walking to the correct door, finally unlocking it for us to leave. Avoid this post office, let it die. Use a different mail carrier until USPS is abolished completely. I don't know what kind of system breeds businesses and employees like this, I am not comfortable paying federal taxes so that I can be trapped inside a federal building when I am already trapped inside my house most of the day. This is a review ONLY about the passport service "provided" at this USPS location. I have a 7-month baby and a few weeks ago I went to this office to apply for her passport. Although I had all the documentation ready, I'm stunned by the "quality" of the service given. It leaves me speechless to see that only one employee is left dealing with a long line of customers waiting to process passports, while 3 other employees work on the other side with barely any people in line. I'm not complaining about the clerk... Pete was doing a very thorough job and was very helpful when I finally got the his window. I'm complaining that they don't have a better system in place that allows more clerks to jump in when there's the need. In addition, because of the fact that you are forced to process the application with your baby present, I waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes before being seen by the clerk. Insane. During the week I work, so Saturday was my only chance. I'm lucky my daughter somehow cooperated, but I just don't get it. I mean, when you see so many people waiting in line, and when you realize that it takes at least 20-30 minutes to process just one customer, why wouldn't you fix the problem and have more than one clerk attending the line? But who the fuck did the postal carrier released it to? They did not ring intercom or come to my door. As always, I tracked the package online for its destination delivery status. An alert popped that it was delivered. It said it was signed by F C, who the hell is F C and why only initials??? Seriously, who the hell is this FC that the carrier decided to release my package with trust that was not to my home? Why not leave a redelivery pink slip if you didn't want to hand me my package? I ran downstairs to the mailbox, nothing in my mailbox nor anywhere near the area. None of the neighbors know anyone in the building with the initial FC. Last week Saturday 1/16 I had a package "delivered" at 2:02 pm. I went down to our Package room an hour later and nothing was there. I checked my parcel locker and nothing! I immediately filled a complaint and was given a case number and told someone will reach out in 2-3 days and never heard back so I filled another claim and was given a second case number for the same package. I decided to call the post office directly and not the customer service number and got no answer. I spent 3 days calling non-stop and no one ever picked up the phone. I then hobbled my 7 month pregnant behind down a big ass hill to see if someone would talk to me. I got a nice young man who took my information and went to the back to give it to the supervisor who is in charge of investigating lost packages. He told me Dante would be reaching out to me in 2 days because he needed to contact the driver. Guess what it's day 3 and no answer! So no one answers the phone, no one answers the online claims and no one answers the customer service claims filed over the phone. WHO THE FUCK HELPS AT THIS PLACE? What's remarkable to me is that I asked the regular mailman that comes to our building and the driver that comes to our building AND the clerks at the post office why this building is so unresponsive and the collective response was "this post office is a mess" This place needs some serious restructuring! People need to be fired and new people who care about customer service need to be put in place. This plus how often I'm getting my neighbors' mail (and vice versa?) and I'm in the first-time position of saying local USPS is as bad as FedEx or UPS. UPDATE: I went to pick up my heavy package and it broke my shopping cart. I was told by the woman at the desk that the delivery agents aren't attempting to actually unload the packages because they feel that they're being asked to do more than is possible, and this is their way of protesting. One time it was a saturday delivery and the truck was parked outside the apartment building and magically i got a message from amazon saying they had attempted to deliver.... Are you kidding me?? I have been having trouble with packages being delivered for over a year now. It's clearly because they don't want to walk up the flights of stairs but you know what, that's their job. I've had to call the Packaging Supervisor (Mr. Guzman) SEVERAL times over the past few weeks just to get a confirmation that his employees will actually walk up the stairs to drop off my package. Yesterday was no different, my apartment had 3 packages that needed to be delivered over the past 3, 2 of which are big and heavy. I had to go to the Post Office myself (making me late for work) pick up my package and then PERSONALLY call Mr. Guzman out on his behavior. He assured me that the other 2 packages would be delivered. Guess what? Here we are and those two packages have not arrived yet. He keeps saying "Oh... They couldn't get into the building" which we all know is bogus. They can obviously get into the building if they leave the little pink slips. This afternoon I was on hold with both the USPS facility and their customer service line. The facility rang and rang before hanging up on me 3 times before someone answered and then PUT ME ON HOLD FOR 40 MINUTES. This may be the worst postal service of all time and even the older employees of said post office agree! The mail is often just strewn around the lobby of our building haphazardly and the carriers not only don't deliver packages but they don't leave notices either! And only one of the women behind the window helps- if you get the other one she calls once and if no one answers tells you to come back later or file a complaint. I've left vacation notices to have my mail held, only to come back and find some of the mail jammed into the box and the rest missing. Its incredible that a post office which's main job is to deliver packages refuses to do that. They refuse to deliver packages to people's home. If I could give this post office zero stars I would. Constant misdelivery of mail, half-assed package delivery attempts, and if you try to call, they will hang up on you. I've occasionally spoken to one very nice woman, but she can't ever help me. Three instances of terrible service (though there are many many more): 1. I had a package that was marked as "Delivered" online, and when I called the woman said the carrier left it in front of my apt. Not there. When I had a broken ankle, I requested redelivery of a package on a day when I knew I would be home all day. No redelivery, and no redelivery on later days when I was promised by multiple staff members that it would be delivered. 3. Now, I have a package that was listed as "Delivered" online, while UPS (the original shipping company) says it's at my local PO after attempted delivery. When I moved to the area from lower Washington Heights (where the absolute worst post office is- 165th and Audubon), I was so relieved to find this post office that was relatively functional and had great mail carriers. However, more recently, we must have gotten a new carrier in my block because three times when there are PM deliveries (and both my husband and I are home), the mail carrier 1) does not buzz 2) does not attempt to put the packages in our mailbox (where they always will fit) and 3) sometimes doesn't leave a slip, or if they do, it's completely blank...no tracking, no name, nothing. Further, they often provide the reason that there's no safe place to leave the package, even though we have a receiving office and most people receive packages right next to the communal mailboxes. Finally, all of my packages from Amazon have a release ON THE BOX that says "carrier- leave if no response." It's outrageous that we are literally asking these people to just, at least, do their jobs, and they can't be bothered. Most recently, the same thing happened- I got a delivery missed notification and I was home! Ran down to the lobby- no package, AND no slip in the mailbox. I ran to the post office (which was already closed) and banged on the door and called the local number and had to wait 30 minutes outside in freezing temperatures for them to find my package. This post office got to be one of the worst in the country. The staff is so incompetent, it hurts. No one knows anything, no one can answer a simple question. You wait up to 10 minutes before anyone shows up at the back counter. They have no shipping materials or required forms in the lobby. They just shrug their shoulders. Told them I had researched a package fee to France, and they kept quoting me another, much higher fee. By tracking it-- and only by tracking it, since no "attempt of delivery notice" was ever left-- I found out that my package was taken to the post office. Went here to get a PO Box because I know not to expect the USPS to deliver large boxes to a walk-up. Line was 20 minutes with 2 out of 5 attendants at their booths, but the actual PO Box process went smoothly. Got a box in 10 minutes--even with some random lady butting into my transaction with random qs related to her transaction--using a State ID & lease agreement. I would strongly recommend filling out the on-line form prior to the transaction, as it would expedite the process. Attendant dealt with the two transactions simultaneously without losing her cool. They never deliver packages despite me living a mere five minute walk from the office, except it's downhill so I have to break my back going uphill with heavy packages. I had a package that weighed over 12 pounds and had to carry it by myself uphill because I had nobody to help and had just gotten back from hours of class. They never leave a slip when they refuse to deliver and claim that nobody was home. Funny because my mother works from home and the house always has someone there 24/7! More often than not they do not leave a slip so when I go go pick it up or try to reschedule a delivery, I can't because I don't have a slip to prove it's mine.
