I never knew this post office was here. I was on my way to the big one by 34 Street when I saw this. Since I just wanted stamps, I decided to go in here. Huge line. So I opted for the machien to buy my "stamps". Once again, a post office machine gives mestuff that looks like a cross between what a postage meter prints out and a stamp. Whatever happened to those vending machines that could give you stamps and actually took cash? read more

Just got off the phone with one of the rudest people I've ever spoken to in customer service anywhere. I'm always especially polite and respectful when speaking to postal employees since my mom works there. I try to go to the East Broadway location, but my office is near the West 38th branch. The postal service is a sinking ship with partnerships with large organizations who encourage its customers to rate their shipping process by shipping provider. They do this for a reason. In the US alone there are 19 other options. Congress can't save you every time. Do. Better. read more

Make me wait is fine( not too long) but can't tell me it was a separate line when the guy just skipped me from the side and girl ahead of me just finish with you! AVOID UNLESS YOU HAVE A SIMPLE TASK AVOID. By far, the most disorganized post office in manhattan from my experience so far. And the postmaster lady couldn't care less. I was waiting on the Passport line to send in my renewal application. The window labeled PASSPORTS was not being used and it had a piece of paper on it that said it was just for new passport applications. The window next (window 8) was being used and we thought these had to be, like most of us who started talking on the line, were getting renewals. Window 7 also took people from our line and from the main line (non-passport line). On the line with me were mostly people looking to renew their passports. The line was barely moving. One person at window 8 took about 30 minutes. Some people trying to renew their application just gave up and left. We thought that if we wait, somewhow someone could simply make a money order, look over our passport renewal application, and let us mail it in. Oddly, this could not be accomplished. Yes, for real. So after 45 minutes in the Passport line, the lady in window 8 said, "no renewals. see the sign?" I said, "the sign for the window there?" (that was NOT her window). She said she wouldn't help me even though she was exclusively taking people from the same Passport line. Other people from our line also seemed to be going to window 7 for some reason. She said that I had to wait on the main line, from scratch. She said she was not going to make me a money order. Wait...New applications need money orders too. She would not let me go to window 7 like the others were. She wanted me to wait on a whole different line altoghther. I asked to speak to the post master and was told that she's at window 5. I went to window 5. She wasn't at window 5. After another wait, I called the post office and asked someone to send the post master to window 5. She finally came there and I spoke with her. I asked why they don't make money orders by the Passport area. She said "no manpower". I told her there had to be some way to make the sign clearer that passport renewals wait on the regular line not the so-called "passport" line. And if you can't make money orders for some reason, shouldn't there be a sign that says no money orders in the passport area? The postmaster lady looked dumbfounded that there could be any improvement. It was really absurd. She didn't think any other window should accomodate me after waiting 45 minutes on the Passport line for help mailing in my passport. As I was leaving, I noticed that another person getting a passport renewal was getting help at window 7, which was next to the unhelpful passport window (which only services NEW applications for some unknown reason). What a mess. When will the government privatize the post office? UPS could run it so much better. I left so dissapointed after being there for a whole hour, including trying to get the post master to recognize that the signage needs some improvement, and they should really let most people know that they need to be on the regular line. Hands down the worst post office ever!!! If could give it -5 rating I would. Whenever I have packages delivered through them the tracking info will say that they tried to deliver the package but my office was closed. That is clearly a lie b/c my office is open until 8pm and someone is always at the reception desk and a couple of times they said they tried to deliver on holidays (MLK and President's Day) when we all know the post office is closed!!! They give you the option of scheduling a pick up but good luck with that. No one knows anything or where any packages are and they act shocked like you disrespected them when you ask them to do their jobs and track down your package. I don't know how this place is still open and operating but they government needs to save taxpayers some money and shut this sh%t show down!!! I have sent things to my boyfriend who was in Iraq and he's gotten his package with no problem but I can't get my package sent within the good ole U.S. from my local post office. P.S. I still don't have my original package with my lovely shoes. The shipper had to replace my order. This time I was smart enough to have it sent to my house. Most of the employees here are very rude and most of the time there is nobody to ask when you need to ship something that you can not find the right box or envelope for in their displays. If/when an attendant shows up they are always very condescending and talk you down for no reason. I like this location. Because it's on a side street. Which means most people don't know it exists. Compared to other post offices I've been to in the city -- this one is much bigger, has a separate line dedicated to those of us that understand technology and can use an automated machine, and is much less crowded. Two thumbs up. Getting stamps should never be a production. read more

My experience here so far has been fairly agreeable. It really depends on the time of day you go. In the morning when everyone is working/on the way to work= green light. In the afternoon when everyone is lunching = yellow light. Any time people are free in mass amounts = red light. Plus points = It is on a side street and there is a much large PO nearby. So, unless you *do* know it's there the lines here have been shorter for me at least than other places. I've also had some pretty friendly conversation with the workers. this place is convenient for me since its near my work and I drop off packages here. sometimes ill need to line up and get a label. on one occasion the lady with long hair, EXTRA EXTRA AND TERRIBLE MAKEUP, long nails, and a nose ring was BEYOND SUPER RUDE. I couldn't believe she was able to talk to people the way that she does. this is how it went down... I had a package that was being sent to CA and I had packaged it myself. she told me the price it would cost and then I asked her what if I put it in a flat rate box..the price would be lower... so duh im going to go for whatever cost less. as you know for them to weigh your package you need to put it through the glass window and they lock the door she told me if I was going to repackage it as a flat rate I need to do on the other side. I said, ok. (the package is still locked up on the scale and im waiting for it) she threatens me, like LITTERALLY THREATENS ME with her scary ass makeup and says " I TOLD YOU NOT TO CHANGE IT HERE, WHY YOU STILL STANDING HERE??!!!!?" and I said, "yes, I heard you, my packaged is still locked" and she slides opened the glass window and says, "IM SAYING IT ONE LAST TIME, YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT HERE, DO YOU HEAR ME??!!!" I had lost my passport and needed to get a new one. When I arrived the staff checked with me to be sure that I had the correct documents while I was in line to be sure I didn't have to wait until I got to the front to find out that I didn't have everything. It turned out I didn't have everything. I came back a few days later and was the first customer of the day. Crystal helped me through the process and even remembered me from the time I had been there before. She was extremely nice and sympathetic, which is so hard to find in a post office environment. She really made a miserable experience a pleasant one and offered good advice about the confusing services that I wouldn't have understood on my own. It was a rare customer service experience that was totally unexpected. I think I would even go out of my way to come back to this branch in the future. read more

I just spoke to the most rude person ever! I'm a very calm person and the way this person (woman) spoke to me gave me a desire to go and give her a piece of me! She has a very strong foreign accent and is kind of difficult to understand. She hung up on me supposedly because I didn't answer fast enough and they were busy. She was rude when I called last week, and now that I call back to see if my returned package was already there, she yells (I mean screaming) at me. Is anyone watching the behavior of the staff there? This is the worst post office I have ever been to, I got yelled at by some woman behind the counter for literally asking a very simple question, I swear it! There was some customer behind me who spoke up with me on her trashy attitude. Seriously, I was mortified. That one star is for the one employee throughout this location who actually was helpful and apologized about the behavior of cruela devil and her supervisor. I have consistently had bad service at this branch but today really took the cake! I called about a package that I had yet to receive with no avail. I KINDLY told the woman on the phone that I had called the 800 number on Monday (5 days ago) and they added the suite number which was missing on the package. She came back on the line to tell me that I owed her an apology because I messed up the address and then proceeded to yell obscenities at me and hang up in my face. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?! I will pay 4 times the amount for shipping to always use UPS or FedEX.... this is EXACTLY why the USPS will be out of business in the next decade or sooner... This location consistently loses my packages and the dishonest carriers mark them as delivered. Twice my packeage has been marked as "delivered" and has shown up the next day. This last time, my package has been marked "delivered" and 3 days later it still has not shown up. The staff here is rude and incompetent. I went to inquire about my package and waited 30 minutes on the lower level where no one showed up. I then went back upstairs to get some assistant and the a**hole behind the glass says "u have to go downstairs, I can't help u...next". I ordered 3 books from Amazon 3rd party sellers. Book #1 and #2: tracking says "delivered" but they never came. Lost. Book #2: returned to seller as "undeliverable" but the same address works fine for light mail and magazines. Never got a card that the package was being held. Given the other reviews regarding package delivery it's clear there's a systemic and intentional practice of not delivering bulky items. USPS FOR SHAME! Have a similar story? COMPLAIN! Worst service, worst attitude and runaround "hell". As with most of the complaints about this Post Office, it has no answers for anything or accountability for anything they do there. They delivered a package to my office thats been on their route for many years, so they should've known that there would be no one there to pick it up. Fine. I call the USPS 800 number and ask to have my package placed on hold so I can pick it up myself. Operator tells me that my package will be placed on hold and to give them a confirmation number just in case I have an issue. In line the very next day, I'm waiting along with 15 other people simply trying to find their package that were in the same situation as I was. Finally getting to speak with the postal worker, I give her my tracking number. Within a minute she concluded that my package was out for re-delivery. That was impossible as I made a request over the phone with a live person to have my package ready for pickup. I showed her my confirmation number, but she told me that the 800 number doesn't work and that I had to call the station itself. I told her I did and the number was either busy or no one ever picked up...not once! Frustrated, they simply said, "its out for redelivery and you'll get it today." BULLSH*T! i wish yelp had the option to rate something -5 stars. looks like i experienced the same issue as several other dissatisfied yelpers here. had a couple packages delivered to my office after business hours on two different occasions and i was told each time that notices were left. lies. called the 1800 # and chose the option to put them on hold so i can go pick them up. get to the post office with my confirmation code and the extremely miserably rude, unprofessional employee tells me that pkgs went out for re-delivery. ok, so why even give me the option to pick up the pkgs myself then? so then wtf is the confirmation # for? Let me preface by stating that I do not enjoy any post office because they are all the same, but this establishment takes the cake. I came to ship and international package, as I have done before, using a business card that we use in the office (again, as I have done before). The first clerk wouldn't process the transaction because my name wasn't on the card. When I explained to her that I have done this before, and that this was a business transaction, she called over her supervisor (whose name, I was told, was Valerie but that could have been a lie, not really sure). The supervisor would not process the transaction. I told her multiple times that it was a business card and that I just waited in a like for 30 minutes (probably more) and I just needed to ship the package. The card has the name of the company, but she neither asked for identification nor proof of employment and told me that I was being rude and continued to yell to me to leave the line. She even went so far as to call security on me (and no, I wasn't being irate, belligerent, rude, or defiant, I just wanted to ship my package. I actually was frustrated to tears because of the treatment I had received). So I had to stand to the side (and they kept asking me to stand further and further away from the counter) and call my co-worker to come and "pay" for the transaction (because her name is on the card along with the business name and she was the only one they would authorize to make the purchase) When my co-worker finally arrived, the second clerk (at station 3 I believe) was completely rude from the beginning. She made us leave the line because the "ship to" country wasn't written on the box (I didn't write it the first time I shipped to Greece either so I wasn't aware that it was needed. At any rate, I kept stating to her that it was going to Greece and she ignored me and kept finding different reasons to ask me and my co-worker to leave the line. First it was to tape it shut, then to write the address that was already affixed to the box and had been since I's arrived 2 hours prior (then she gave me more attitude because she said I wrote the entire international address on the box in the 10 seconds that she was asking me to leave the line), then it was to write "Greece" on the box despite the fact that it was on the customs form). Then we went to a third clerk. At this point another supervisor (she identified herself as Ms. Riv, but again that could have been a lie as well) made it a huge point to talk to my co-worker about me, as if I wasn't there, and tell her that it was "a new policy" and they can't authorize a purchase (business or not) that doesn't have the correct name on the card. She wouldn't acknowledge my presence, and refused to give me her first name. Now, I understand that for security reasons, businesses cannot process transactions without proper identification. The problem here is customer service, or a lack thereof. These ladies were unreasonably rude and irritable. Yes, it was really busy and they seemed short-staffed (then again, the post office is ALWAYS short staffed) and yes there was no AC on in the building, but there was absolutely no reason for them to treat me, the customer, the way they did over at $29 transaction. I have never felt so belittled and insulted in a retail situation before in my life. They had absolutely NO regard for my time. In all, I spent 2 hours shipping a package. These women have no business working in any customer service capacity whatsoever. This is ridiculous. Avoid this place if you can. read more

You will wait in line for what feels like an eternity, the employees are rude and like to fool around the whole time, and never seem knowledgable about anything you come in for. Rude. . .impatient .. unhelpful. My package was not labeled appropriately, I called the sender who corrected it to add the suite number. Called the post office (5 calls, 1 hour on 2 of those calls to the service station, 3 calls were to the 800 # resulted in a phone call back - 6 hours later) Received the phone call back indicating that they were adding my suite number to the information - got updated delivery info that the package would be reattempted for delivery. Called the service station again & not only can they not find it, They have no record of the update even though it is clearly indicated on their tracking info !! Their response " Well you should have added the business name. Well I don't know who you spoke to - was it from the post office" ...I wanted to say "NO! I called fed ex , UPS and DHL because I thought they could help" I also wanted to ask them "who do you think I spoke to - someone at the dollar store? Because this service is just worth that! ridiculous. thought I would be in and out since all I had to do was drop off a package that was already labeled and stamped - I just needed a receipt. but no, the lines were disorganized with one line per window. mind you, there was no designation of the lines at all, so everyone just ended up standing in a collective line where people go to the next available window. eventually we all got yelled at by the employees like we were stupid because we didn't know how the lines worked. I got bumped around 2 or 3 times from line to line before I finally got what I came for. the whole process took about 30 minutes. The so called manager there named Louise loves to threaten people and tell them that their package will be resent to the shipper is they do not watch their tone with her. So my mom bought 100 forever stamps at this post office. She paid 60 dollars for it and waited for her stamps. The lady refused to give my mom her stamps, and screamed at my mom's face saying that she had already given it to her. My mom doesn't speak english very well, so I think this lady took advantage of her. When I heard this I got so upset. Coming to this post office has been one of the most trying experiences of my week. Service here is abysmally slow, no matter what time of day I come by. I understand that with the holidays approaching, their is a big uptick in people mailing things, but this location seems chronically understaffed. There are only 1-2 windows open at a time, even though the line is 40+ people long and the self-service line ~20 people long and a separate line for people buying stamps. I thought that a small post office nearish to the main post office would be less crowded and quick, but that is far from the case. Avoid this branch and go elsewhere. read more

I never thought I would need to yelp review a post office, but this is just to warn people DO NOT GO HERE! This place is horrible. First off, the staff that I have dealt with have been rude and unhelpful. I used the self service machine and bought a "1-day" stamp so my letter would be delivered in a day. It was marked "June 29th" and the expected delivery date said "July 1". I sent it and thought nothing of it. The person did not receive it till July 13th! This mail was sent to another address in the city. I spoke to the person assisting on the floor and told him and all he said was "NOT GUARANTEED". Any time I would start speaking he'd start saying "NOT GUARANTEED" over me. Ridiculously rude. I was polite and asking a simple question. I decided to give them another shot and mailed something again 1- day stamp, mailed on June 15th. It is not June 29th and they STILL have not received the letter. This went from 38th and 7th to 34th and Madison. Do not waste your time, or money. read more

I am disgusted with how I was treated at this location. I waited in line for 40 minutes to renew my passport. Finally at the passport window, the one and only worker told me sorry your on the wrong line for renewal go to the other line (also another 40 minutes long). I explained that I am pregnant and it's hard for me to stand in line all this time, since I was waiting I would like for someone to please help me. I moved over to the next counter and asked if the next worker could please see me since I waited all this time. She started screaming at me how I made a mistake and they do not have to accommodate me. Finally after she was done screaming she agreed to make an a money order for my passport and threw it at me. Would not answer any of my questions and would not further help me complete my passport renewal processes. Ultimately I left and now have to do this all over again.
