Echoing "If I could leave no stars I would" . It's crowded, dirty and the tellers (the only exceptions being the lone Asian and African-American male tellers) are rude and lazy. You ask a polite question and you're ignored or, if you're lucky enough to get an actual, verbal response, it's almost always"I don't know". I've seen the female tellers berate and humiliate non-English speaking customers when they complain about the wrong change or wrong amounts on money orders, they yell at customers from all backgrounds and act like you're bothering them when you ask for a pen to fill something out. If the USPS wanted to discourage people from using it, they couldn't have done a better job because I'm only using FedEx or UPS from now on and telling everyone not to send me packages or anything else to me via USPS. read more

This post office is an absolute mess. On more than one occasion I have stayed home waiting for packages to be delivered only to check my package by tracking it to find out that a fake attempt to deliver has been made. When I call post office to complain and ask for my package to be redelivered on the same day while the manager is sympathetic it seems to me there is nothing he can do other than have my package redelivered on the following business day. Very disappointing. United States Postal Service need to reevaluate how they hire and hold their carriers accountable for their behavior. He attends should be on except not only to the customer but the standards of United States. What a mess. read more

I know plenty who have ventured into this post office location have felt that tis very difficult to deal with and unapproachable. This post office should be investigated. I believe they were in the past. They say they delivered a package and it was not delivered. Then when I call them they ask me to go around my building asking my neighbors if they accidentally received my package. I have had my packages taped up because they were opened and the post office says they were delivered to them that way. it only takes 3 days or less to get letters in the mail but when I look at some of the post marked dates it is close to 2 weeks sitting in the post office. Honestly, if one more package gets lost again I will sue not only the post office, but the mailman/woman that are responsible for delivering them. read more

The Inwood post office (zip 10034) regularly misdirects and loses mail. My building regularly receives mail intended for an apartment building across the street, and vice versa. All of the misdirected mail that I've seen has been properly and clearly addressed, and both buildings are clearly marked with their address numbers. The mail sorters and letter carriers just seem incompetent or illiterate. The USPS's "Informed Delivery" service sends me an email as a heads-up about any mail scheduled to arrive that day. (These messages originate somewhere else, not in the Inwood post office, and usually include an image of the front of the envelopes.) So I know if a piece goes missing. When it does, that service lets you report the missing mail. Sometimes the missing piece will then show up in the following days. But twice in the last year, pieces of mail have been entirely lost. I assume they were probably delivered across the street. And, yes, as others note, the lines of customers inside the P.O. itself are usually long and slow. I take my business elsewhere. The slogan, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from their appointed rounds" should be chiseled off of the general post office building in midtown! read more

Wish I could give it 0 stars. Oh this place. You hope it'll get better but it just keeps getting worse. We frequently don't get our daily mail delivery. The carriers usually deliver 2-3 days worth of mail at once. And packages? Good luck. Today's example had me working from home to wait for an Amazon package. At 10am I got a notification from Amazon that USPS attempted delivery at 9:18 this morning. What was I doing at 9:18 this morning? Drinking tea and not receiving my package. No one knocked on my door or buzzed my apartment. Did I get a written notice either? Nope. Another classic. Usually you don't get that package notice until 24-48 hours after the "attempted" delivery. Because they include it in the daily mail delivery. Which they don't deliver. Anyway...usually I let it go but today I actually called because it's been 5 years of dealing with this shit show of a post office. I was shocked someone answered and was pleasantly helpful. Took my info and said she'd call me back once she tracked the driver down. Hours later without a return call I try again and find out she has left for the day. The guy who answered was straight up unhelpful. This location needs a total reorganization and more employees to handle the traffic. Maybe some day all the bad press and Yelp reviews will make them acknowledge this mess. I love the post office but this location is the worst. Expect to be constantly disappointed, to wait in line for hours when you have to go retrieve packages they claim they cannot deliver, and to scream into the abyss about how awful it is for years and nothing to be done about it. read more

I wish I could give less than 1 star. 2 days in a row, I have received an email at 5pm from Amazon saying that the delivery was attempted but business was closed. This is a flat out lie. I have been here all day and still here at 6pm. I was here yesterday until after 6pm. It is so obvious that the lazy, dishonest delivery person, didn't want to bring my package and figured that since the delivery was to a business, they could wait until after 5pm and just input that they tried but business was closed. The only problem is that we close at 5:30pm everyday and I'm here well past that. When I called to complain, I was put on hold for 20 minutes, hung-up on and when I finally spoke with person, I was told that the shipment would be sent back to Amazon since they have attempted the delivery twice. This is infuriating as I am writing this review of the worlds worst post office in the exact place where the delivery was supposed to go but I'm told I'm not here. read more

The service is horrible and slow. Rare times do you ever get good service, it's one of those type of things that you just pray it goes well. This USPS post office has misplaced my package countless times. I once received my package two months after I ordered it, in those two months I went to the office several times and they were clueless, when my package was in fact there the whole time. If I could provide a negative score for an establishment I would rate this Post Office as -2. The staff are rude and seemingly completely incompetent. The staff levels are too low for the customer base and I have never been in a line less than 25 minutes. I recently attempted to apply for a passport at 3:00 pm when the lines were almost out the door and was told after being in a line that the passport hours are between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm although this was not indicated anywhere and where there was a small 'Passport Hours' sign the details were blank. I will be trying my hardest to never set foot in this place ever again. read more

I know that the ratings for this post office are awful. Reading them, I was preparing myself physically and mentally for when I had to go pick up my package. Once I arrived my package was not deliverable for a shipping error. I called the post office, considering this is the one I am scheduling my package pickup from and the representative on the line at the office was SO helpful! I was so surprised as he went out of his way to call the trucks and look for my package and by sorting through the ones already there as well... He never had any attitude and helped me without question or concern. Maybe I got lucky but they were very polite and helpful when I had to call and work out my problem! read more

I consider myself a US Post Office supporter and I know they have been under attack and had their budget slashed, but even accounting for that this post office, and the mail service in the area it services, is shamefully bad, and I have only given them one star because it is not possible to give zero stars. In addition to the long lines, painfully slow movement and disorganization you have to contend with if you are unfortunate enough to have to visit, it is a gamble that your mail will reach you or it's destination if it has to pass through their hands. In the days when I received Netflix DVDs by mail, they would arrive late and already opened, and sometimes not at all. On more than one occasion my landlord has not received my rent check. Others have posted pictures of the long lines, which is sort of a cliche about post offices generally, but even on the rare occasions when I have come in and there has been no line, they will just ignore me for a while before deciding to actually help, as if it's a matter of policy that everyone has to wait. This past week I was supposed to have received a priority mail package by mail, and the post office tracking information indicated that it was left at the mailbox (not in it). In the past they have managed to leave a slip so that I would be able to pick up a package (and wait in the interminable line on a Saturday). I don't know why they've decided suddenly to change this practice, but the mailbox area of my building, which is visible from outside, is not a secure location to leave a package -- it was either not actually delivered at all, or it was left by the mail carrier in a location where it could be easily stolen, and it was. After years of experience with this post office, I can sadly only draw the conclusion that they just do not care about doing a good, or even adequate, job, and maybe they are even intentionally doing a bad job. read more

I wouldn't even give this place one star, but Yelp won't let me do that. This is the most antiquated, ridiculous excuse of a government-run office I have ever experienced. The employees are lazy and rude, and the handmade signs are completely inefficient and unclear. They have two lines, one that says Mailing and Other Services, and the other that is for Money Orders, Stamps, and Pick-Up. I stood for 30 minutes on line for the Mailing and Other Services (not knowing this did not mean it was the generic line for all services, since it did not specify that you couldn't do both from either line, AND I had something to send as well as pick up) and the woman behind the window told me I had to wait on the other line which was an HOUR long (there were at least 3 times the number of people on it than the first line) because she refused to walk TEN feet around the corner to pick up my package. The place also doesn't have an automated stamp vending machine or any other machines that allow people to do ANYTHING for themselves. You have to wait on line and wait for one of their employees. This is by far one of the worst things about this neighborhood. read more

WHY is the ONLY thing they seem motivated to do here is SELL money orders. Better say your prayers if you have to PICK UP or SEND MAIL. I've lived in Inwood for 30+yrs. I'm a native NEW Yorker. My home language is English. I use a bank for banking and the post office for sending and receiving mail. Home today or I would have gone elsewhere, ANYwhere but Here. Usually KIingsbridge on Bdwy in the BRONX b/c at least they have someone assigned to direct traffic to the 2, yes TWO sullen, slooow clerks who are working. Recently found an Old Fashioned, dare I say upscale ( NO Plexiglass separations) post office in the West Village -10th street. I guess they are confident that their customers won't "go postal . " But I don't have a doctor's appointment today. SO UGH, I'm in INWOOD. God Help Me !!! And yelpers its not about the pay which. is uniformly regulated. Sooo yea the lines are long.. well really long. I waited the other day for about 45 min to get my package, and my package wasn't there. ooo the travesty (sarcasm). I chose to stand in that line, if I didn't want to wait in a line then I would have got it redelivered when I received my notice that I missed the package. The day I went they were short staffed and we were reminded several times. They did what they could with what they had. They could get a better comp system though. I give the staff a tip of the hat bc the customers that come in and choose to wait in the line get all pissy and give them attitude. 3 ppl were working and ppl wanted stamps, money orders, packages, mail this out and that out. the lines are long bc half the time the customers dont even know what they want to do or ask nineteen million questions. Yet i dont see anyone pitching a fit with them, Matter of fact, the other day I was there and this gentleman had the audacity to throw money at the teller, the teller refused and if i laughed bc he didnt deserve to be seen with his childish attitude. So how about you all be put in their shoes, You live in NY with several people living in one building with several buildings around. YES! there will be a line and if you don't like it, get it redelivered, that is an option you know. Or get a PO BOX, or there are several money order cash checking places that can help too. Id understand if they had all the windows open and still were slow but they have half the people with the same still coming in. give them some slack, its not the end of the world. read more

First of all the reason there are only a few windows open, is because the are not many clerks on staff. Since that is the case how can you expect all of the windows to be open? Secondly, everywhere you go you must wait in a line, so grow up and use you common sense, you will have to wait in line depending on the the time of day and yes people come to the window not prepared which holds up the line. I am sure you wait at the bank, in the emergency room for hours, at the supermarket, and many other places. And the third line is only on Saturdays, so deal with it. The dirty Post Office is because the nasty people in the neighborhood throw the papers on the floor and disrespect the post office in their area, the workers do not throw the paper on the floor. The individuals even treat the outside area where they live nasty just like the McDonald's on 207th street, so do not act like it is an uptown downtown situation. Stop losing your slips so the clerks can find you items, come to the window with your ID out, and count your money and stop holding up the line for us customers that are prepared. For your information UPS and FEDEX also use the USPS as a drop off location and cost twice as much. How can you expect the staff to be friendly to people that waited in line and decided to just be rude because their under the impression that the only place in the world they should not be a line at is in the post office. This is by far THE WORST POST OFFICE EVER! Not only are the workers LAZY, they are RUDE! The treat the customers as if the customers are impeding on their time and most of them have no respect for the customers. Don't these people realize that they work for US! We provide their salary! This office needs a over haul of new employee! They should get RID of all those workers currently working there now and get ALL new workers! One who will appreciate us. I have lived here for over 35 years and nothing has changed in this post office. If new workers come in they too become just as bad as the old workers. That is why they ALL should be let go and get all new workers. I wonder when someone in a higher position will take notice of all these complaints and do something about this important issue! This area has a large population of elderly and handicap people who standing on line is difficult for them and yet they are made to stand for a VERY LONG time on that SLOW line for service! This is arguably the most terrible post office in New York. I've lost count of how many times this post office has lost my packages, neglected to deliver and just leave a notice, but today, Sunday, March 27 is the day they made my blood boil to a point where i didn't think was possible. I had an item that was supposed to be delivered today (Sunday delivery via Amazon). I know how these guys work, if you don't open the door via intercom 0.2 seconds after they knock; they run as fast as they can to their truck hoping to avoid the dreaded stairs, so I patiently waited near my intercom, waiting for a beep so I can immediately open the door for these assholes. I every so often checked the tracking number, and then I check it and it says they attempted a delivery. I was confused, I went downstairs looking for a notice slip, none was found. These guys were so lazy they didn't even bother coming out of the truck to leave a slip. This post office needs to fire all their current employees and find others because these lazy incompetent degenerates aren't cutting it.
