I got my passport in the mail last week and it was pretty fast. I've come early thinking it might be crowded but there was just two people registering for the passport. I've come in when the doors open and got it done right when I have to go in for work. Service by far was friendly and fast. Parking is limited. read more

Ridiculous. First time here and they were unprepared. They didn't unlock their drop off box then when I went to the counter refused to accept my package on the basis that it wasn't thick enough. I've received plenty of packages that were the same size of mail and sent more than 50 similar packages at other locations without this problem. They wanted me to buy tape and bubble wrap, when my item isn't even prone to damage. They wanted me to unwrap it there before they would take it. They couldn't give me any reason for the rule, just that at this location they don't accept packages like mine. They have horrible customer service and told me to go home if I wasn't willing to pay or go to another location. I had a pre-printed postage stamp. This location isn't worth your time. I will NOT be coming back. The Alhambra, San Gabriel, and San Marino locations have been great. Management here shows that not all USPS locations are the same. read more

Amazed at this location. The staff is so friendly and kind. They help you right when you walk through the door. I'm used to post offices with employees that don't care about your time and efforts. After reading everyones reviews ...I dreaded coming here..but I had to, my parents need to fix name on passport. Uuugh...so I was told you dont need an app. We go in ...there is a long line and right away I feel the tension in there. I see a passport sign n a fam waiting. After 10 min...I go ask an employee when will someone come and attend the passport line? She says you have an appointment? I say it said its a walk in. I do not understand the poor ratings. There are TWO awesome self-service machines here, lots of supplies, and recently there's been an employee whose role is apparently to roam and help people in line. It's fast, friendly, economical, and oh yeah: **enumerated in the freaking Constitution**, for the faux-patriotic haters out there. Like many here, I am not sure why this location get's low scores. I have been going here for 18 years and have never had an issue. The staff has always been courteous, professional, and pleasant. This office has several clerks on duty, but there are so many customers that there is a line. The staff always comes into the lobby to gather slips for picking up parcels and helping them with the self service capabilities. If anything, the staff is very patient. Many of the customers have never used a post office before so they take a little longer to help. Imagine yourself in a foreign country and going to a post office. You don't speak the language and the postage procedures are very different than what you are accustomed to. This post office is good with a patient and helpful staff. read more

I've been going to this place for years but the service has never improved. I remember a few years ago, back when Rock Band was hot, I was shipping them out via USPS mail internationally. They initially accepted it but after a week or so, the employees got lazy and refused to take them, stating it was oversized but that was BS. They were just too damn lazy to take it and haul to ship it out in the back. When I get a parcel in and wasn't available to receive it, the delivery person who does strictly delivery, didn't leave me a slip for the attempt. I had a package come the previous weekend but wasn't available to get it. I had to check the tracking online to see it was attempted the past weekend. I've been pretty tied up the last couple of days, so I didn't have to time constantly check the tracking and it would be nice to leave a slip to let you know they tried to deliver. I went to this post office, inquiring about it, and I went towards the end of the day. They said the delivery person was supposed to be back by 4pm and I went around 4:50pm, so I decided to wait until 5:10 but they never showed up. I was told to come back tomorrow and the package would be there for sure, so I went the following day around 10am, they could not find my package still and told me back at 8:30am the next day to make sure it would be there. I was told that after 2 attempted deliveries for a business, they would just leave it at the post office to pick it up, and that's why I went back today to get it. It was already attempted twice the last weekend. (Saturday/Monday) If you want wait for long lines and employees that make your blood boil, this is your place. Otherwise, steer clear away from this place. I only have to come here because I'm forced to but the service is pretty shitty. read more

I hate writing bad reviews but this USPS location has given me a migraine plus nothing useful. I understand that lately the USPS has been more busy due to the increase of packages and ongoing disputes with the government. What I don't understand is how they can say that my package was delivered on a specific date and time, but I didn't receive anything. My tracking number shows delivered, but I did not get anything on that day. I checked everywhere and couldn't find anything. I gave this Post office 4 extra business days to see if my package would deliver and still nothing. The funny thing is that my house has security cameras outside the door and mailbox. The post man NEVER delivered any packages to me on the date they said my package was delivered. When I tried to contact this location's post office, no answer through phone and email response is useless. I wish my mail didn't have to be delivered by this location, but because I live in the area I don't have a choice. Try going to a different USPS location if possible. Today I had an outstanding experience at this postal office! Every single employee there is absolutely amazing!!! I had an appointment for passports so as I walked in I asked Michelle and Steven where I should go and Michelle looked at Steven and said, "He can help you. He is the best at passports!" How nice it is to walk in and see fellow co-workers get along and compliment each other. Steven started assisting me right away and was so pleasant, respectful, and extremely helpful! You can tell right away that he cares about all the clients walking in. And then I noticed that all the employees at the post office were helpful to all the clients, not only Steven. Bryant was so caring and informative to every single person he helped, making sure he explained everything in a way that the clients understood. As Steven continued to help me, I heard a young lady helping out an older man so I looked over and saw how caring she was and automatically assumed she was his family member by the way she treated him. Later I realized this young lady (Alisha) was an employee there and not his family member!!! During my time there she had to help me too and she showed the same care with me as she did to the other gentleman. I was so shocked at how Steven, Bryant, Alisha, and Michelle were so amazingly wonderful, helpful, and passionate about everything they did. I give this post office a 10 out of 10!!! read more

It's incredibly frustrating that this branch is completely inept when it comes to prompt delivery. The items I send out through this branch ALWAYS end up getting to the recipient late. They are very inconsiderate. I used to have to get my mail from this place because the mailman refuses to deliver to my house even though I've moved my mailbox. When I went in to get my mail, the manager talked to me like I was stupid and said they will send my mail back immediately because of my mailbox. I've tried to say I've moved it and the mailman just skips my house but for some reason they said I'll have to pay money for a PO Box. which is absolutely ridiculous. I've had numerous items sent back. I've missed my checks or other important mail. 1/5 stars for how they've talked to me and 1/5 stars for the mailman who refuses to deliver to me even though he delivers to the rest of my neighbors who have a black metal mailbox by there door. I've actually watched the douche deliver mail to my neighbors who have there mailboxes on steeper slanted driveways than mine and alright skip my house without even stopping. The strange thing is is that when I notice a different mailman covering his route (which I assume is from him calling in sick or on vacation because he's back within a couple days) my mail is delivered with no problem. The post office doesn't care for this fact and want me to move my mailbox still because my front door is an unacceptable spot. I've moved it and they literally say I didn't move it which is wild to me! so in short if they find any problem with you they will go out of there way to be pains in the ass to you even when you listen and do what they say. I still can't get over the manager of this place talking slowly to me and saying do you understand what I'm saying. And actually getting angry with me. read more

If I can give this location's service a 0 star I would. First of all, I've been mailing packages for 2 years+ and I know exactly what I'm doing and how the process is like. I've always used the priority mail boxes available at the post office, and I have the prepaid label already taped on each time so all I have to do is just drop off my packages. At first, my mom had helped to drop off the packages for me. She called me telling me a tall tan male didn't accept it. So I went in myself the next day to see why and what exactly was the problem. He told me I couldn't use the free priority mail boxes and that I needed to buy my own boxes and told me my shipping label is incorrect. I tried arguing with him telling him I've never had any issues with mailing these packages for 2 years+ and that everything is within the post office's standards but he just wouldn't accept them. I had to ask him if he wouldn't accept them or that he can't accept them? And he never gave me a direct answer. So I went back home to reassure the packages was set up the way it's supposed to with the labels on correctly, which it already was because I do my routine the same way each time. So I went back to the post office and directly asked him to let me speak to the supervisor but he never allowed me to and instead just told me he'll accept it this one time. But of course I wanted to make sure my packages get sent so I had to show him proof on my phone that my entire process of packaging is correct and that he has no right to tell me I was wrong. When I finally showed him the facts and proof of it he just said "ok" and didn't even apologize. First of all, I was furious because not only was he wasting my time but he disrespected my knowledge and underestimated me even after I told him I've been doing this for 2 years+ Next week, I came in again around 1 pm and of course didn't want to deal with the horrible customer service so I wanted to drop my packages off in the Dropbox but it was locked and it hasn't passed 4:30 pm yet which is when they usually lock it before closing. So I went to drop off my packages in the front, and a Hispanic female employee yelled at me to drop off my packages in the Dropbox that I can't leave it here. And when I told her it was locked she didn't believe me and had to go check it herself. From my 2 years+ of mailing packages I've always been told that if the Dropbox is locked or if the packages are over 5 pounds to drop it off in the front counter for the employees to collect. The customer service here is just unbelievable. Employees here should understand basic customer service etiquettes. The way they treat customers here is just truly disrespectful. read more

Went in at about 9:20 am on a Friday to turn in first time passport application. Easy street parking. Had all of my stuff prepared. Short wait in line and then asked to wait off to the side in the "passport line" area which looks very unofficial and I was a little confused. But after just a minute, the other clerk called me up. His name was Steven, was very efficient, looked like he knew what he was doing. The payment is converted to a money order so bring a debit card or cash. First time I went in , they told me I need make appointment, I also asked for application and what I need bring it for my daughter. They told me the birth certificate, divorce paper, photos and citizenship certificate. I brought everything .also I asked my dad to bring my daughter from school . When I was there . I took out everything , a white lady told me that I need bring my daughter's certificate. I showed her the certificate from Chinese government with the English over there . She said no , she didn't that one . I also brought out the tax return with my name and my daughter's name , she said no . I asked her if I can bring the Notary back , can she help me to do it . She said no, I have to reschedule it . And she told me to move all my stuffs. Two times visit , time for preparing all the documents. And 3 people's driving time , she didn't care at all . It can get busy and with people who barely speak English mailing stuff to God knows where it can test ones patience but, it's all good in the neighborhood. A post office is kind of hard to rate... it's not something you'll love going to, but yet it's not some place where you hate going to either. So I decided to give it an average rating of 3 stars of 5. The parking at this location is just crazy. It's a one way down parking lot and you'll always have to wait, or find parking on the street which is rate anyways. So I decided to park down the block across the next street. Kind of far but a short walk won't hurt. Once I walked inside, woah... the line was ridiculous and I just needed to buy 1 stamp and mail my letter. I kept walking and saw a couple of machines. Never knew in my entire life that they have these self service machines here! Quite efficient if you ask me. It was kind of cool too. So I weighed my letter and bought some stamps (bought more than 1 cause the stamps looked cooler than regular bought ones) and mailed my letter. Donezo and people were still in line. Oh lucky me! So if you're in a rush, use those self-service machines. It saves a lot more time than to stand in line. Well unless you really, really need to talk to a representative. They should make a separate line just for pick-ups, so people who come pick-up mail or packages, don't have to be swarmed into the same line as others. Just another option. read more

Horrible. Just horrible service. I've had a PO BOX here for about 3 years now simply because I don't want to change my mailing address again. If you need to do any type of service that does not specifically require you to be at this location, I would drive an extra mile or so to avoid ruining your mood for the day. First off, location just.. sucks. Worse case of slow drivers and well, SGV driving to the fullest. Congested with potential road rage. This place is always packed so be prepared to wait. There's no sense of urgency with these workers. Even if you speak perfect English, they'll treat and speak to you like a naive foreigner. I could really go into detail as to how bad their service is, but my main point is, just go to a different post office location. You'll leave here dreading the idea of post offices just as much as DMVs. Tip: the people at the one off Del Mar are shockingly nice and It's as if they actually want to help you. Don't hate on the post office. Let's look at the facts: Not everyone is smart enough to have their stuff ready from the get go. There are some immigrants within Monterey Park that don't really understand the post office process. many times I see them looking for approval for what box is needed. Other times they are sending remittances to their family back in Hong Kong. I would say that more than 35% of the mail goes to Hong Kong which requires some pretty tedious International shipping paperwork. I'm a frequent ecommerce person and I too find that the form is a tad overwhelming, and I grew up here! So complain all you want. There is no express shipping option with customer service. You can use the kiosk to the right of the counter, however it is good only for smaller postage items. Would it be better if that kiosk would accept larger to middle sized packages so that you can be in and out without waiting 10....20 minutes in line? Sure. But that's not where the USPS makes money. This Post Office does not: Open on Saturdays. Close at 6, (They close at 4) have a automated Shipping Machine thing. Every time I have been, here there is a line or it is closed. Dude, seriously, go to Office Depot the next 2 stores over and have them weigh & ship for you. OMG! DId you know that Office Depot ships Fedex UPS & USPS for you? and they close at 8-ish. OMG, I have such a hate-love relationship with you. But after visiting the Montebello USPS, you look so much more like a gem. The staff is friendly for the most part, and although there are a couple who aren't chatty no matter what day it is, they aren't especially rude either. They're people, too. So they have their bad/off moments where they may not be welcoming. Regardless, they get their jobs done efficiently despite being pestered by idiotic questions all day. I've noticed some customers holding up the lines multiple times before because they had half a million questions that could've been easily answered online or were common sense questions. With that said, the very first time I came into this location to deliver a package to China, no one had any idea as to how the address should be formatted. Considering it is MPK, I would've figured at least one employee would know...but no one knew how to answer my question. VERY spacious in comparison to Montebello's post office (I love my space). They even have a little machine that's a self-service kiosk. You can purchase postage, mail letters and packages, or renew a PO Box using a debit or credit card to avoid the weekend and holiday lines. Trust me when I say December is a crazy month. Example? 12/03/12 @430PM, the line went from one end of the store to the absolute other almost to a point of where it went out the door; and every customer entering the post office either dropped their jaws, had their eyes pop out, or mutter "bullsh*t"/"wow" ): At 450PM, the line was still the same annnnd people were still trickling in. I mail packages pretty often nowadays (although I'm generally here to pick up re-routed packages that I supposedly wasn't home for), and I can tell you that my favorite is probably one of the older Asian ladies who works here (not Tandy though Tandy is one of the nicer 'sales associates'). She's always trying to save me money when I mail things (: As for parking, there's not much you can do about its limited space except park a block or so down. UPDATE/EDIT: I recently heard from a little birdy that USPS's flat rate boxes and envelopes follow one slogan - "If it fits, it ships." Jesus, take the wheel!!! I swear!!! Completed a vacation hold for my mail, I check tracking on an item first day of the hold and its showing up as delivered and signed for BY ME!!! Of course I get every excuse in the book: Oh we mark things as signed when you're on a vacation hold Oh we'll look into it and then my husband talks to our mailman who NEVER EVEN KNEW WE HAD A MAIL HOLD. Now I have a lost package, lies about me signing it when I was in another state, told to call post office customer service and waited on hold for literally two hours and a rep NEVER CAME ON THE LINE. There must be a memo that the US Post Office is the new place to hang out on afternoons. This place is always packed inside and in the parking lot any time after 2:00 p.m. Mostly composed of people sending packages, picking up packages, or buying stamps. The service is pretty friendly here, but oftentimes very slow. But still, US Post Office prices are comparable to UPS or FedEx especially if you don't need rush delivery. That and help your country out by being a patron because in the near future, the US Post Office could very well likely no longer be in service. read more

The thing about this post office is that people usually stall other people by asking questions that you could look it up any time and day online. They have English, Spanish, and Chinese languages. Study it please. These people working at this post office must be tired of all the same questions while processing customer packages. It saves time, hassle, and money for yourself by doing it online. Technical issues online, go call them up (the 1-800 number). Other things that are provided online and the same or similar in the post office -go online. You might even get it cheaper. If you call your local post office, make sure you know the questions you're asking after researching/studying. It's handy because all of the USPS customer rep. so far would give me an answer and more info. I may not know. read more

I purchased the wrong stamps and needed to exchange them. Returns aren't allowed. Per the USPS website, I came in with the full sheets of undamaged new stamps that that i purchased last week. The clerk said exchanges weren't allowed and said my stamps could be counterfeit. I had to buy new stamps to get the ones I needed. I will try to exchange the stamps at a different location even though I bought them here initially. Also try to do your own measurements and calculations at home if you're shipping something. The clerks here have made strange mistakes. Or just go somewhere else, these guys don't seem like they want to even be in the building. It's not too bad I guess, I already planned on spending 40 dollars on stamps to support USPS but half of my stamps are basically useless 9.1.4 Purchase Error If a customer bought the wrong denomination stamps (or the wrong kind, size, or denomination envelope), they may be exchanged at full postage value. Only full panes of stamps, coils of stamps in the original sealed wrappers, full boxes of stamped envelopes, or original sealed packs of stamped cards may be exchanged. Honestly the only place within a 15 mile range of me that does passport renewal services for walk in. The services are from opening to 2pm and it beats other post offices in my area since others only see 5 people a day or have appointments. The process is so quick and easy, they had me out of there in 15 minutes. I had to do it in person so apart of the renewal charges I also paid 25.50 since I had to do the in person appointment. TIP: go as early as you can, a lot of people go at 1pm so there is a wait. They do however take you if you're in line before 2 if they're going slow so that nice. As I came at 1:30 one time and waited till 2:30. They still gladly saw me. read more

Reason #1,279 For Hating to Visit the Post Office: I dont come here often, but it was on my back to work, and we were outta stamps. I run in and theres only 4 people ahead of me. All 5 windows are open for business. Sweet....I'll be in and out in no time. 30 Mins later....... -The line has not moved. -All five windows are occupied by Octagenarian Asians who cant hear, nor have the faintest clue how to fill out a express mail form. -One lady was at window for 30 mins straight trying to get her passport renewed. How the hell does DUBYA BUSH's Federal Government issued a US Passport to person who doesnt speak, read, or write engrish is beyond me. -The g'damn postal workers carry on useless gab fests about grand kids, the weather, and whether or not they would like to upgrade their first class postage with a freakin signature or certify the sucker with another useless form....which the customers have no clue what they are talking about! -The line is now going out the other side of the building. -Lastly, a hispanic lady in her mid 50's sporting some heavy perfume, just blasts a haberno scented fart just as she passed me by. I have been to this post office three times for the past week just so I can pick up a package. Sadly, the line is always long, and once I got to the front I was told my package is still being held by the mailman so I have to come by another time. (grumbles) Every time I go, there are at least 7 people ahead of me in line. The staff are friendly and nice, and do try to be helpful to their fullest extent. Be aware of line-cutters or the "I just stand in front of the line because I didn't know there was a line" people. You don't have to do anything about it--the staff will kindly show them the back of the line and have them wait like the rest of us There are a few spots for parking, but street parking outside is available as well (unless if it's Wednesday from 8am to noon...then just park on Avondale) By the way, the pictures are very helpful.
