This post office is complacent with its workers committing mail fraud and will lie to cover up that fact. Montclair residents deserve far better than this. What happened to me was abhorrent and no one should ever be put through it. Their customer service manager retaliated against a complaint I made about missing packages taken by carriers by stopping my mail service "on request of the customer" after threatening "you don't know who you are dealing with." On two separate occasions, mail carriers on their daily routes took packages from my porch that had been delivered shortly prior by other carriers. We had all of it on the RING cam. The first time this happened I was blown off by their supervisor Shakema Monroe and told that they had mistaken it for outgoing mail. Interesting since it was on the opposite side of where our outgoing mail always is and had a giant label addressed to me at the very same address they just delivered to. The package never turned up again and I lost over $100 in goods. I wrote it off as a mistake hoping it wouldn't happen again. This happened for a second time in Dec. and this time the package even had a very large sign stating UPS pickup. On my first call, I was told if they had taken it by accident it would get picked up by UPS. This never happened. When I filed a search request, the same woman, Shakema, once again gave me attitude and acted like I was the problem for complaining. I told her that it is incredibly f*cked up that carriers could just make off with whatever packages they felt like and no one was taking responsibility or caring to look for them. If it kept happening I told her I was going to file a police report. She let out a big gasp and responded, "you don't know who you're dealing with." WTF. She then proceeded to stop all incoming mail and packages to my address and fraudulently declared on the stop that it was "held per customer request." I had to reach out to numerous people to fix the situation and eventually, a higher-level service person called and told me she had to demand the hold be removed and apologized admitting the action was extremely inappropriate. Months later, the package has never turned up and I received a final response to my complaint from another upper management person that was riddled with lies and inaccuracies about the situation that were clearly intended to cover that person's ass. She even went as far as to say she was "protecting her mail carrier" by stopping my mail. If saying it is f*cked up that mail carriers can take a package is so offensive, it might just be highlighting a larger problem at hand that they don't want people to uncover. Apparently, this person can get away with whatever retaliation she feels like by lying. I doubt I'm the first person she has done this to. Godspeed to anyone who has to deal with this post office and their horrible staff. read more

Something needs to be done about the trash service provided at this location. Montclair residents are being done a grave disservice with some of the people who work here and provide a poor customer service experience. But my post today is specially regarding the Supervisor Shakeima (probably spelt incorrectly. Pronounced Sha-keema). Not sure why she was placed in a leadership position as all she does is escalate a situation instead of deescalating and she acts with zero urgency. This was my 2nd unpleasant interaction with her. The first time an important package showed as delivered but I'd been home all day awaiting it. So of course I was confused when I got the notification that it was delivered. Because it was a time sensitive package, I had to take on the inconvenience of heading to the post office to deal with this. One of the ladies at the window called Shakeima to assist and it took her 30 whole minutes before she came down to speak with me. At the 25 min mark I called up to the office and told her I'd been waiting for a while & only then did she magically appear 5 mins later. I explain the situation to her, and instead of listening, empathizing and understanding she defends the post office as if she owns shares. She did not seem to care that my package may be lost and she stepped away from the window to communicate with the driver. Then casually tells me the driver incorrectly selected delivered but that it was actually still on his truck en route to me. No apologies. No I'm sorry for this inconvenience. Nothing. Now again yesterday I had to divert from my day to go back to this post office and quite frankly I hoped Shakeima no longer worked there because I already anticipated her being unhelpful and unbothered. Again they called her down and at least this time she came down within 15 mins. I explained that two packages said they were delivered but they were actually delivered on the public street in front of my apartment and that the sign on the door clearly states packages should be delivered in the rear. I explained that my neighbor observed the mailman drop the packages on the street but that she was driving out of the complex and couldn't stop at the time. Because I didn't come home that night until about 10pm, of course the packages were stolen as they were left outside for public access instead of 1- being brought into the building where they would be safe behind closed doors or 2- being brought in the back rear of the building which the sign on our front door CLEARLY instructs. But of course some mail folks do not care and just care about dumping your packages anywhere. Shakeima did not apologize, took no accountability and instead said if the package says delivered there's nothing they can do. And that the company I bought it from should've gotten insurance on the item for situations like these. Well I explained that the only situation here is that your employees are not doing their job and this isn't the first time important packages and letters get left on the street and one of us residents need to bring it inside where it's secure. She again kept defending her mailman with zero regard for the fact that I would now incur a $50 loss. She didn't care about where it was delivered. She then assured me that it won't happen again. The entire time I noticed her ID was turned around so I asked for her name and her title and she told me she couldn't provide me with her last name per company policy. That they are not allowed to share that info. Sounds like BS to me. Gone are the days where the mail man would leave you a note in your door to pick up your own package if you weren't home. They don't care about how they deliver your packages and letters, and only care that it's out of their hands. People like Shakeima and these mail men & women who don't care about their jobs need to realize there will come a time when they're replaced by AI & automation because machines will do a much better job than they all are doing. I came here today because I had to send several letters priority mail and the parking by the Bloomfield USPS is a total nightmare. I am surprised that this location has previously received poor reviews. I had a very pleasant experience. Before walking in, there are beautiful plantings outside. I have never seen that at any USPS but admittedly, I grew up in Queens and we were lucky to even have bushes let alone fresh lavender bushes at the local post office. It is spacious with plenty of room to spread out to prepare boxed & envelopes for shipping, as well as wait in line. There wasn't a long wait and it appears that there are many post office boxes available should you need one. It turned out that in my haste, I had picked up priority mail instead of express envelopes. I also was sending SASE express envelopes. Maria kindly prepared them for me and even added paper clips to the checks I had with my letters. I haven't had service like that in years. It was efficient and really personalized. Impressive. My only complaints are that they need some pens (I realize I probably should have brought my own) and it would be great if they had automated machines to purchase stamps and weigh mail. Perhaps they had them there and I didn't see them. I was a bit rushed. (Most of the pens didn't work though and the one I was using ran out of ink). A very good experience though. Thank you, Maria. I'm a huge USPS fan. Feel free to peruse my other Post Office reviews. But this one goes a long way to bringing down the overall reputation of the United States Postal Service. This is an interesting PO. Its the "main one" for Montclair and can be very busy at times. The lines get very long and don't move fast. You would think they would get more counters spots open. PO Boxes here are nice, but they are not careful with the mail and you often get mail for previous box renters, even YEARS later. Parking is street, with meters no less, and a mess pretty much all the time. This is a busy street too, so its always harrowing to get in and out of your car if you are not there at 6 am. This is a PO I have used for years, but its also a PO I would never try to buy stamps at, the lines are just tooo long. read more

They are absolute trash and I would give zero stars if I could. I live across the street from an apartment building, my number is 45, the apartment number is 50. At this point almost all of my packages get delivered to the apartment building across the street because these morons can't take 3 seconds to look at the address. So I always have to try to get someone to let me in the building, then let me into the mailroom to look for my packages. If they don't deliver across the street they just don't deliver at all. They will mark the packages as "unable to access location." There is no reason you can't access a house, other than the workers are lazy assholes that can't/won't do their jobs. updating to lower the stars. Since I get my mail from this location via driving mailman - feel the need to update. This is probably the 4th time in the past 15 months that they just don't even bother to come and deliver to my building. We had a great guy for about 9 months and he vanished. NOW Every other day we have a new mail man/woman. TODAY. The package I've been tracking now since the 30th of April states that on this day (5/8) they attempted to deliver the package at 9:30am. Funny. I was here at 9:30 am. No bell rang. No mail delivered. No slip left to tell me they missed me. As a matter of FACT All the outgoing mail is still there from the AM. No incoming has arrived. For months now I been looking for my forwarded mail to Belize. Forms have been filled out to forward my mail to Belize, telephone calls have been made and even talked to someone twice. I see online that I am receiving mail almost daily, but nothing forwarded to Belize. Lately when I call the Glenridge Avenue Post office, the telephone just ring without anyone answering the phone. I have a business office address in Montclair and all my mail has been returned for the year 2022! I found unclaimed checks at unclaimed property NJ and all those pieces of mail has the correct address on them. I'm sure tampering with mail is a federal offense! I have had this business address for 15 years and now no mail received for an entire year. I've emailed USPS and my office mates at the same location have spoken with the mail carriers as well as their mail is also not delivered. read more

An employee here tried to sell me a piece of Scotch tape. A. PIECE. OF. SCOTCH. TAPE. I wish I was trying to be funny... They don't give a sh*t about your mail, guys. They don't care if you've changed your address and they don't care if you've done YOUR part; they won't do theirs. Employees move like sloths and don't know sh*t. They will not answer their phone and I've been trying for 2 days. I spent an hour on hold for the USPS main help number about a package that was not delivered and they gave me local number to call. An attempt slip left at my home but there was no true attempt, family and dog were home at the time and they didn't ring bell or knock. Wonder if the package was too heavy for them? It is a medicine cabinet. They did not put the "article number" on the slip into their system so I can't track it on line for redelivery. I put the slip in my mail box with signature and it was picked up but no redelivery or contact at all. This was supposed to be delivered last Saturday and it is Wed now. I went there three days ago, and both of the clerks (I forgot to buy something initially) were very pleasant. I moved to Wayne, NJ about three weeks ago. I am already missing THREE PACKAGES that the USPS said they delivered. Are you kidding me? Neither package has been found since I have initiated searches. I'm going to have to figure out a new way to get my mail because of this now. I lived 35 years in MA and never once did a piece of mail go missing. Pretty much the worst post office I have ever seen. Makes me want to leave Wayne, NJ and never look back. Update: After a few months and multiple phone calls to the post office the service has gotten better. The person on the phone who helped me recover lost packages a couple times was friendly and helpful. It seems a lot of my packages were delivered to the street next door with a completely different name...how someone could mess that up is completely beyond me especially when you work the same route. To this day I haven't recovered four packages totalling a value around $50. read more

Montclair post office is the worst in this area . The service is terrible sometimes the clerks have such attitudes and service is very slow . I can mail out a letter and sometimes it will reach it's destination. A week or two later . I have had mail that was supposed to be delivered to me that was very very important . That was lost till this day as am writing this review. I still have not received that mail and the letter carrier said he delivered it. So we're is it I have a lock on my box . I am not sure why the ratings for this location are so poor and or low than the location down in Bloomfield. It is WAY faster, more quiet, and parking is pretty decent. I had no problems and or issues with the representatives. I am not sure if during the weekdays if it's more stressful or if the wait time is longer. However, my experience was way better than the location in Bloomfield. I would say stick to this location. Right now it's a little after 1400, so also take crowd flow into consideration, as it was really slow and quiet when I came. I think that Herron our I will just drive the extra mile and come here instead, because the Bloomfield location is brutal. read more

I sent a package to brooklyn ny from here [with tracking and insurance] and it wound up in DENVER COLORADO! Do yourself a favor use UPS or Fedex the post office is useless. Oh and if you call here to talk to the post master they will let the phone ring and then just hang up on you. I tried calling twice because i found out this happened while i was working and couldn't make it over there so i decided just to call to ask if they could contact the Denver CO post office to request my package be delivered properly. From something as simple to closing a mailbox after mail is delivered to something a tad more challenging like properly executing a mail hold request, the only consistency is this post office's utter incompetence. I stood in line with the same 5 people for probably 30 minutes, thinking that at any minute somebody would open another window. The scariest thing about living in Montclair is having this place handle your mail. Err... handling it would actually be good. I'm not sure how often they actually handle anything. They've lost more mail and packages than I can keep track of. I've literally have had nightmares about dying and being trapped in this place as punishment for my sins. Stopped in to get a couple of stamps, and mail a letter. It was quite dirty. There was debris on the floors. The desks had receipt scattered all over. There was a display that was crowded together. ZERO STARS! Rudest post office staff I've ever encountered. Was just there tonight, dropping off prepaid packages for which they have NO process. The idea is that I shouldn't have to wait in line, as I have already paid for the postage, labeled the package and need no receipt, which means no effort on their part other than scanning the package in later, which they rarely do anyway. You'd think that they'd be a little grateful. But instead, I'm forced to cut through the line to the closest window near the door at the left, manned by a woman that treats me like sh*t EVERY time I go there, which is almost five times a week. The door on the inside of the package window has to be shut in order to open the door on the outside, and she makes me wait for her to close it when she's standing right there, even though the door should always be closed by habit to accommodate the customer. You're supposed to then shut the outside door so that they can open the inside door to take in your packages. I did that tonight and was scolded because a woman was approaching and had a package that would need to use the window. SO sorry. The woman couldn't open the door herself? And to think, some day I might be helping to foot this woman's pension? AVOID this place at all costs if possible. I'm done. read more

I had been tracking my package which said it was out for delivery since 10:30 am and after listening and checking finally,I go to where I purchased item and the mail carrier has claimed they tried to deliver (It had to be AFTER 6pm) and that they left a notice(2nd Falshood) Now I am trying to retrieve my package as this mystery hidden notice was a final and they will try to deliver once more and the post office website and phone numbers are reason enough WHY people have tried bombing the the post office! read more

When I lived in Montclair, I often received mail that had been sent 'return-receipt requested' for which the letter carrier had signed the receipt! Now I am no longer a Montclair resident, but occasionally send mail to Montclair requesting a return receipt. The results are fifty-fifty: half the time the receipt is signed by the letter carrier (claiming to be the 'agent') and half the time I get no receipt at all. I have yet to receive a return receipt actually signed by the addressee. While I have had to contact the Montclair post office numerous times regarding various unacceptable practices by letter carriers delivering mail, this particular practice has legal ramifications in that a return receipt carries legal weight as acknowledgement of receipt of an item by the addressee. It is unfortunate that some postal employees are not willing to adhere to USPS policies and regulations. Once a Montclair letter carrier explained to me with a straight face that he always signed the return receipt himself if no one was home to sign for an item because the letter might contain material the addressee needed 'right away'. read more

The 07042 Post Office has THE worst service I've ever experienced and they do not care. I have complained (waste of time) to the manager on duty, and even asked for the supervisor and Postmaster there to respond to my concerns. They didn't. Your postal problems do not matter to them. Unfortunately this is MY post office so if I need to have mail held or have any delivery concerns, I'm just SOL. Can't go anywhere else. The lines are long and they have no interest in moving quickly. I'm not sure what to say about the bullet-proof glass. None of the other PO's nearby have it. But I guess they really want to protect all that ineptitude back there. Mail delivery is atrocious. I get my neighbors mail tucked in my catalogs. I get other people's mail and packages with the same house # who live on nearby streets. Some days I get mail, some days I don't. If I complete a card to have my mail held when I go away, I might as well not, they deliver it anyway. There are different mail carriers, different days of the week so there's no consistency, no pattern, no vested interest in doing their job well. I'm horrified at the thought of MY mail being delivered elsewhere, but the odds are pretty high that it is at least some days of the month. I even went so far as to leave a friendly note for a nearby neighbor whose mail I frequently get because we have the same house #. I'm trying to start an exchange program! It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. The USPS needs a complete overhaul, or to just disappear altogether. At this point I'd be fine with a privatized system of weekly mail distribution. I'm quite sure that postal complaints outweigh any compliments and praise, but unfortunately for us, that's the excuse they use to keeping doing what they do and to never improve. read more

The WORST post office. I am so tired of scheduling a pickup for important packages used for business and my request is ignored. Why have a service to schedule a pickup if the mail carrier thinks it's optional? He'll/she'll drop off mail but will choose whether he/she feels like picking it up mail that day. Happens all the time. I've called to file a complaint many times already and nothing has ever been done. And forget calling the post office at the end of the business day because the hold time to speak to real live person is 30 minutes minimum. One afternoon I called and the wait was 60-90 minutes to talk to a real person. They're from another planet. In what world is it acceptable to expect or ask customers to wait 90 minutes on the phone to speak to a person? AND when is it acceptable to decide not to do the job you're paid to do and have zero consequences? read more
