Shipping Place & More - a torn box with a hole in it despite having a fragile sticker attached

    Shipping Place & More

    (40 reviews)

Needed to have some of my professional equipment packed up for repair. The shipping place…read moredouble-boxed-packed it up so that it will ship nicely out to California. I have a lot of peace of mind that they did a great job - much better than what I had tried to do. Whenever we have something very important that we need packaged for shipment we go to the Shipping Place & know that it was done right!

TLDR; Avoid at all costs. Take your pkgs elsewhere…read more I went here to ship a TV. I had the man behind the counter, Marcus, package it for me and paid extra for this service. He placed a fragile sticker on it. He measured and weighed it. Originally he told me it would be over $600 based on the size. I said it was too steep and I could buy new. He managed to get that price down to about $250 with the packing service. I paid and that was the end of our conversation. The TV arrives at my mom's house and it is broken. I reached out to FedEx, filed a claim and it was denied b/c I went through a 3rd party. I had to contact them and they had to file the claim. I reach out to the store and someone answers. I give my name, they pull it up and I explain what happened. They tell me they can file a claim for $100 but that was all b/c I didn't get insurance. I was never offered ins. They insist that yes I was. At some point while I'm talking, I get handed off to the person who helped me that day, Marcus. He swears he did tell me about the ins and I told him no I wasn't paying the extra $15/$50 it costs. This never happened and I tell him as much. Perhaps he got wrapped up (pun-intended) in struggling to pull down the Kraft paper, fill the air bubble sheets to put in the pkg, the cursing, and the constant use of the n-word. He insists I told him the value of the TV was $500 but rejected ins. I never discussed the value of the TV b/c I didn't remember how much I paid over a year ago. I never expected the full value anyways (depreciation). I recall to him the conversation we had about not paying over $600 just for shipping. The value of the TV was never discussed. He tells me he has it right there in his database. No, he doesn't. If he has a refusal it's b/c that's what he clicked but he never offered it. We went around in circles until I finally just asked for the manager. The owner comes back on the phone and is indignant. They immediately place me on hold. They come back again and place me on hold again. They tell me they don't know why I called back, they already told me they can only file a claim for $100 and they aren't going to commit ins fraud. I tell them I didn't call back, I had been on the phone and I asked to speak with Marcus's supervisor. They interrupt me, then repeat the same thing again about fraud. I ask them who is asking them to commit ins fraud. I'm telling them I was never offered ins and that's on their rep. I'm asking them to accept accountability for that. Yet again, they begin to place words in my mouth that never were said. They said they would not accept accountability for breaking the item b/c they didn't break it. I ask who said they broke it. Every accusation is an admission of guilt. The craziest part of all this is that he did in fact almost drop the TV while it was in the box and sitting on the dolly. It makes me wonder if it hadn't fallen at some point after I left while waiting for them to put it on the truck out back. I explain again what I'm asking and ask how we make this right. They refused to listen to what I was saying and instead kept waiting to respond. Next, it was they WOULD accept accountability that they didn't offer me ins (I thought we were getting close to redeeming behavior until...) but they doubt it (meaning they doubt I wasn't offered ins). I ask which makes more sense: me rejecting paying an add'l $15-50 for ins on a pkg costing me $250 to pack/ship OR me saying I wasn't going to pay over $600 to ship said TV. And yet with all of that still wasn't listening. They knew which one made more sense but refused to admit that they made a whoops and forgot to offer the ins. Had they been able to just admit their mistake, commit to taking that feedback and doing better in the future, that would have been the end of it. I would've taken the $100 and went on my way. I told them not to fret. I was going to contact the bank and let them sort this matter out. Charge reversed, credit final. Chargebacks hurt small businesses but some people let their ego get in the way of customer service.
